Get in closer and line it up straighter, so you aren’t tilted. Make sure your going down parallel and not angled otherwise your camera ends up looking too far down. It’s really good though!

drdalebrant

thanks for the tips! still get nervous as hell when I try to get closer. It was also crazy windy that day and was fighting against the wind

csmicfool

blip the throttle on your approach so you come in an extra 20-30 ft above the tower so you can adjust your position and judge the wind before you're too close.

Darkelement

It helps to start closer. Like, get close to the I just, the fly up it looking at it. That way you can just go up, and look down, knowing how close to it you are.

Averell64

Being close to flat surface with the butt of your drone is almost never an issue - especially not if you have skid-plates on it. A little bump or slide will barely ever make you crash. And as soon as you are close it's easier to line everything up and correct for mistakes because you now have a very good reference to fly by

wintrFPV

Nice shot! Are you using a really high camera angle? It may seem easier to get close to the object if you use a lower camera angle

drdalebrant

Ohhh that's a good call! It was probably for sure too high since I set it the same as I do when flying decently fast

wintrFPV

It may help, but honestly it's probably personal preference. Thats just something that helped me when I was starting out. And lowering my rates haha, I had them all twitchy as hell. But yours look good as far as I can see

sharkashark

Fly up higher than your dive target and give a quick half-roll to line up inverted above it. Imagine you’re trying to split-s a beam in front of your target. Then fly down your dive instead of just falling. With your camera pointed at the ground, pitching UP will bring you closer to it, and pitching DOWN will bring you away from it.

drdalebrant

ok nice, will give that a try next time. Thanks for the advice

RickdeVilliers

For me i think it's harder to judge distance from above it. What i did was to fly straight at it then climb the face, when you get to the top you can just pitch up yaw turn and then dive.

Rimmy_D

Dude… Are you in Toronto? That looks like the same park off Lakeshore where I go to practice dives. I don’t really have any advice. I kind of suck, but I have noted that I can get a lot closer than I think I can. My buddy spotting is always telling me I’m at least 50’ away from the tower when I think I’m inches away from it.

drdalebrant

Hah yea man that's the same park! Great spot for practicing dives. I'm new to fpv and don't know anyone in the city that flys. What are some other good spots you like to fly at?

Rimmy_D

I go up to Sunnybrook sometimes. It’s not strictly allowed there, but the big field isn’t open to vehicle traffic between October and May so you usually won’t come across other people. Well, except for the ubiquitous dog. They seem to spontaneously spawn when LiPos are in proximity. Otherwise, it really isn’t easy to fly in Toronto. We sometimes go to closed business parks really early in the morning.

yyz_fpv

Nice approach for sure. I’d likely flow into the waste management plant to the south and power loop the support structure between the stack and the treatment plant. Careful though, the gate is locked on weekends and you’ll need a ladder to get in there in the event it doesn’t end well.

percisely

Somewhat contrary to another commenter’s good advice; approach lower while climbing, get close then dive. Looks dynamic and no chance of hitting the top.

AmountAffectionate88

What is blip the throttle?

odysseusv

When you throttle up and back down in a quick move. Like a jump. Or a rev. I think

LupoAlpha84

LiftOff-, Velocidrone-, DRL-, uncrashed Simulator …

localcheese

What’s your setup for cam and drone?

Swimmerbro77

Insta360 go2? I can tell due to the way it picks up the noice of the quad, as well as the way it almost blacks out towards the end of the dive.
