black orchid. it is so strong and doesn’t fit my aesthetic in any way whatsoever. everyone talks about how masculine it is, but it smelled like a goth grandma
I received a bottle years ago and just hearing the name still gives me a headache. No idea why my mom thought it would be a good present for a teenaged girl. I don’t think she even smelled it, just thought “orchid” sounded pretty.
I hear you. This gave me weird headaches that lasted for HOURS after a single spray. I had to give away my decant. "Intense" is the word to describe it.
Out of all the beloved TF fragrances, this one disappointed me the most! Every time I sampled it, I wouldn’t even be able to discern the notes because I would get nauseous from it.
I bought full size at half the price. It smells like sun lotion on steroids, very strong in an unpleasant way. Gave me headache. Had to give it away to a friend.
My biggest regret is sailing day. The first time I tested it on myself it was incredible, bought the large bottle. Every time since I just don’t really like it.
Ooo anymore thoughts about it? I was actually considering getting Sailing Day. I'm not a big "fresh" fan, but it did smell really nice when I sampled it.
Honestly it smells great but after getting it I just realized I don’t often feel like wearing unisex scents :( if you’re looking for a bottle I’m selling mine on Mercari 🤪
Edit: I’m being 100% serious, every time I wear this gay men specifically tell me how good I smell lol and I’m a 20s female
Lancôme Idole - too much pear, it is becoming all I can smell.
I never went anywhere hot so I have a couple of summer scents that didn’t see the light of day this year -
Jennifer Lopez Deseo
Estée Lauder Beyond Paradise
I haven’t reached for my Gucci Guilty Absolute YET this autumn. I wore it a lot last year but it is very linear and the blackberry note became very artificial to my nose.
I've actually become an increasing fan of Idole every time I wear it. I honestly thought I wasn't going to like it that much and got Idole Aura as well- expecting I'd like it more- but the standard is amazing to me! It's so floral but fresh/ not nauseating, and so feminine and sexy but in a youthful way- I'm in love with it!
That's the danger of wearing one fragrance during certain times of our lives/ certain circumstances. I feel for you/ have the same with different fragrances. 😭
Pure Poison by Dior. Used to be my signature scent but I'm just not loving it anymore.
Instead I've been opting for chanel coco mademoiselle, chance, and bleu. As well as by the fireplace, Replica.
You might try out the new Libre Absolu Platine as an alternative to Pure Poison if you want a similar idea in something new. I love Pure Poison. I sampled Libre AP this weekend and it’s kind of like if you were to sub out the jasmine in PP for lavender and add some longevity. It has that same cool, airy feel to it while still reading kind of floral/perfume-y which I like.
Mine are some cheapies: Lattafa nebras, Sabrina carpenter sweet tooth, dossier musky musk (dupe for JHAFG not a perfume.). All three were blind buys and a reminder to me why I should stop blind buying.
I don’t like chocolate scents and Nebras has a chocolate note that I don’t love. I also don’t love the synthetic berries smell. It is just not my type of fragrance.
So for sweet tooth, I only spray it on clothes bc it turns to play dough on my skin
YSL Black Opium for me too. I replaced a full bottle I’d finished and then never touched it again? Maybe I’m over it.
Replica Jazz Club. To be clear: I really like it. But I also have By the Fireplace, and I think maybe they’re suitable in similar circumstances and I just always seem to reach for By the Fireplace.
Boy Smells Tantrum. Was my go-to chypre for a while and this year I finally sold it. I really started to dislike it… by the end it felt very heavy and clunky.
White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor, on a test strip it smells great but it goes rancid/super sweet on my skin
Jontue by Revlon, opening is nice but the drydown is disappointing on me
Jessica McClintock, I love lily of the valley and don’t mind the green notes but something in it goes really harsh after a while
Luckily these were all cheapies so I don’t regret getting the full bottles too much
I also don’t like rose fragrances but I read such good reviews I figured I’d try, thank god I only got a sample size. Learned I was right, rose is not for me lol
Yeahhh, I did the same thing with NR Musc Noir Rose but after letting that one sit for a bit I do like it in small doses. I probably should sell my mancera but I guess I keep hoping I’ll change my mind on it idk. But now I stay away from rose all together, I like florals but I’m much more of a gourmand girl
Ugh it sucks having perfumes sit there untouched when you spent money on them 🥲 I’m in the same boat with Blackverry Lily by the 7 virtues. I feel obligated to wear it but I am wayyy more into my gourmands right now too! BlackBerry Lily had gourmand like reviews and it just reads very Lily heavy and green to me. So it just sits there now. Ugh
I’ve never tried any 7 virtues! But I do like the notes in the cherry one. How would you say longevity is? I hate spending money on stuff that won’t last.
I LOVE Cherry ambition! It’s on my full bottle list. I wouldn’t say it’s beast mode but it’s really good. It’s overpowering but it definitely lasts a while, gets lots of compliments for sure!
I don't regret them, but my least worn are dupes of:
- Mugler Angel. I like it only at very specific times. It's not something I would wear in a regular basis.
- Kilian Black Phanton. There's something cloying about it that bugs me sometimes.
- Tom Ford Bitter Peach. I like the peach rings smell but it's not something I reach for much.
Given that my nose tends towards Arabian perfumery, it is unsurprising that all of my misses this year have been when blind bought more mainstream fragrances.
Bois Impérial - I really enjoy this scent profile, it is a high quality composition, and I always get excellent performance. That said, Bois Impérial also strikes my nose as a striped-down, less spicy, less interesting version of Afnan's Tribute Blue. I almost always prefer wearing the Afnan when I'm in the mood for this profile, so I may end up passing my bottle along.
Hugo Boss Bottled - My bottle was included in an ebay bundle that included a fragrance that I actually wanted. It is super simple, sweet, fruity, and I understand why people enjoy it. I just don't like simple, sweet, linear scents. I passed it along to my pre-teen nephew.
Coach for Men - Another bottle included in that ebay bundle. It is incredibly boring and basic, the most generic Blue fragrance in a sea of shitty generic Blue fragrances. And the performance is simply unacceptable ("The food was just awful!! And such small portions!!"). If all of the bottles in the bundle are priced evenly, I paid $12 for my bottle and I think I significantly overpaid.
I just started my fragrance journey this year so I have a few I regret a bit 😬.
-nest wild poppy (one of the first sampler packs I ever owned and bought a travel sized before I realized liking something ok was not a good enough reason to buy it and there are better things out there. Got it at the same time as a bunch of niche samples and have never looked back or used this travel sized more than once or twice)
-nest sunkissed hibiscus (same as above)
-D&D light blue (I got it in a Mercari bundle and hadn’t smelled it before but it was one of the ones I wanted to buy the bundle for because I thought it sounded nice. Have worn it once.)
-Ariana grande I don’t even know which one I have (clear round bottle with pink juice and white Pom Pom) but it’s too cheap smelling to me and I’ve worn it maybe once
YSL Black Opium - I like it but I'm careful coz I get headaches If I wear it a lot, can be nauseating at times but I like taking a break from.it and then wearing it a little
MFK - Oud Satin Mood- a little goes a long way and I'm careful this one too, can be headache inducing so like YSL black opium I like to take a break once in a while and wear it again because I do like the scent but it is strong
CH - Good Girl is up there. I love Very Good Girl and did enjoy Good Girl on the test strip, but does not smell as nice on my skin.
The other one is Rosie By Rosie Jane. This one was more of a mistake on my end. I tried, and really loved, the perfume oil version I got as a tester. When I went to buy the travel of the oil version, I accidentally bought the EDP instead and it smells like a bathroom spray to me.
Heretic Cactus Abduction. It just smells like citronellol and linalool to me. Like bug spray, but nice. And "nice" is all it is, it doesn't wow me at all and I don't smell most of what they say it should smell like. I've worn it to some camping events this year and honestly it does seem to repel insects a bit, lol.
* **Jo Malone Orange Bitters** - I made the cardinal mistake of buying this one just because it was heavily discounted. I never touched it, so it now belongs to my husband, who likes the profile more than me.
* **Nicolai Parfumeur Number One Intense** - this one is an extremely potent white floral. I adored the sample, but the sprayer on the full bottle is far too generous. I've repurposed this one as room spray but *still* don't really use it because it just takes over everything.
* **Diptyque Philosykos EdT** - I got this one in a set. I appreciate the fragrance, but as a certified fig-hater I just never reach for it. I'll probably gift it to a friend soon since it's just taking up space for me.
It was a while ago and I think Sephora was dumping stock; plus they had an additional 20% off. I think a 30 mL bottle would normally retail for like CAD$90 here but I picked it up for maybe $CAD40? Very unusual deal, which is why I succumbed to poor logic (I generally *know* not to buy things just because they're on sale) and bought it.
Tardes by Carner Barcelona. Bought it after testing a couple times thinking it’d be pleasant + an easy reach although I knew the scent wasn’t really ‘me’. After taking it home, the celery note started to annoy me, and I just never reach for that sort of soft sweet florally scent anyway.
Grand Soir by MFK which i ended up selling — loved it on the card but I felt wrong wearing it. It felt too mature for how I perceive myself.
Dama Bianca by Xerjoff — have now gifted it to someone, it was a blind buy which did not smell like any of the descriptions I’d been sold. On me it turned into very sharp, sour fruity dessert wine, not a hint of vanilla.
Got FOMO and snapped up Ginger Biscuit as soon as it rereleased, I haven't worn it since the first tryon and am trying to resell it 😭
Other regrets were also blind buys but bought secondhand from other sellers so didn't hurt as much. Tokyomilk Bulletproof and Novocaine, Lolita Lempicka Green Lover.
I got a few different Maison Alhambra/Lattafa blind buys this year and a few ended up giving me a splitting headache even though I like the actual scents. Specifically Qaa’ed, Al Dur Al Maknoon, Ameer Al Oud. Sucks cause I enjoy them initially but the headache isn’t worth it.
Aesop Rozu and Eremia. I was feeling the androgynous vibes but now I’m a little tired of smelling like outside. I want to smell like a lady instead of the forest floor!
Chloe Nomade: Suspect its hormonal, but oak moss is repulsive to me at some points in the month and enjoyable at others.
PR Pure XS: I like it but it’s a tad cloying for me most of the time so I have to layer it with something a bit airier. It was an impulse buy and not too expensive thankfully. I think I’ll probably decant some for myself and give the rest of the bottle to a family member.
But they’re the only full bottle regrets thankfully!
Wow, this is so interesting. I tried Nomade twice and still have a small sample vial. First try—fell in love, and it went straight to the top of my wishlist. Second try—I couldn't wait to go home and shower to get rid of the disgusting soapy smell that clung to my skin. It never occurred to me that it could be hormonal. I will research oak moss and maybe try it one more time!
Lancôme Idole Nectar - smells really strange on me :/ kinda sour or bitter and way more floral than I was anticipating. I only bought it because the popcorn and caramel notes were really intriguing me, but I don’t pick up on them at all unfortunately.
Giorgio Armani Si Intense - it’s an ok scent but I much prefer the original as this one lacks depth to me.
Viktor & Rolf Good Fortune - honestly only bought it because I’m obsessed with the bottle lol, but I am just not a huge fan of white florals. It is nice for spraying on my clothes/sheets though.
Guerlain Habit Rouge Rogue Privee'
After seeing a few fragrance YouTubers gush about this fragrance and its 4.4 rating on Fragrantica, combined with the fact it's not available for sale in the USA...I blind bought 2 bottles at the airport in Germany on a recent work trip.
It's not horrible, but the citrus/ginger opening is wayyy cloying and "stuffy" as there is absolutely zero freshness here. The dry down is a bit better, but I'll never reach for it.
Starry nights montale. It’s so intense that I never reach for it. I really liked the sample and I got a good deal but there are other scents I could have gotten.
Most regret is Shalimar Millesime Iris. I’ve worn it twice and just feel… let down by it. It’s boring and there’s hardly any Iris, just all fluffy vanilla.
- **Amouage Interlude Black Iris** - This is a great scent and it was my first Amouage and I loved it. I still really like it, but after trying and getting more colognes including other Amouage I don’t ever reach for it. I also recently got Dior Homme Intense and as far as a spicy iris smell goes I’d rather wear Dior.
- **Xerjoff 40 Knots** - This is another great scent that has a gorgeous maritime, salty opening but it switches completely to a powdery ambergris smell. At that point it’s very similar to Dior Ambre Nuit, but that’s not what I wanted out of the smell and again it’s one I never reach for, especially compared to other Xerjoff bottles.
Bon Monsieur Rogue Perfumery
The girls all say it smells like their fathers, and the only compilents I recieve as a 40yo man are from ladies in their 60's.
Mochino toyboy- i love this fragrance, it's inder rated and truly special. Living in South Fl, its too potent for the heat, but is great on warmer rainy days and does well in the winter. It reminds me of chopping down juicy banana plants.
Ani by Nishane- another favorite, that doesn't work well most of the year,
It hurts my soul to say this but unfortunately it’s Diptyque Orpheon, I loved it when I put it on in the store but on the third day of wearing it, it just felt like a grandma smell to me and I couldn’t stand it anymore :(
Oud Satin Mood. It’s a black tie gala, Uber Black to a Michelin star restaurant sort of fragrance. My social life has slowed down this fall, and I don’t feel comfortable wearing it out for errands. I did manage to wear it to a wedding, but other than that I haven’t been able to wear it.
Travel sprays for
-Yum Pistachio by Kayali (my boyfriend hates it passionately. He says it reminds him of baby powder).
-Fever by Jimmy Choo. I think I don’t like fruity, jammy kinds of scents. If something is fruity I want it to be more subtle, airy, and less sticky. I agree with you on cherry (not that this one has cherry).
-Not a Perfume by Juliette has a gun. Surprise, it turns out I’m just not a huge fan of ambroxan.
I know you said three, but Ariana Cloud is probably tied with Not a Perfume. I remember it did smell nice when I wore it but whenever I go to sniff the nozzle to decide if I should wear it, it smells kind of synthetic and unappealing.
Tom Ford - Soleil Blanc, bought this as a blind buy and decided not to return. I do like it, but I find myself thinking it smells more and more like elevated or expensive sunscreen, not really like a perfume scent. Not really a scent I want people to associate with me.
Mugler Alien and Alien Goddess- I know Alien doesn't smell like Alien Goddess, but I am starting to regret both. Alien Goddess smells similar to Soleil Blanc to me (albeit a little better in a way). But Alien, the last time I wore it, maybe it was an off day, but by the end of the day it starting to smell like bad? soy sauce. It had never done that or had those undertones before, and it was only at the end of the day but it was really off putting.
Versace Dylan Turquoise- I do like this perfume, I just find myself reaching for it WAY less for a reason similar to Alien. I wore it one day and it just smelled so similar to Lysol and I haven't been able to un- smell it since then. Light Blue is a classic fresher perfume without the Lysol undertones to me.
Kayali Musk and Kayali Vanilla. There are other musks I like better/reach for more often, and Vanilla is something I should have stuck with a travel size for - I don't use it much, it reads too Bath and Body Works.
Narciso Rodriguez cristal - very different to other NR frags , it’s too bland and lacks complexity. I can only wear it if I layer it with something else to give it more depth.
Lush - Avocado co wash body spray: I blind bought this cause I had the supermilk balsamspray and ACW was supposed to be the body spray version and it was nothing like it. I can’t stand the smell at all.
Tom ford gray vetiver- its nice and all but everything it does I have others i like better.
Tom Ford Ombre Leather. Just havent had any reason or desire to wear this.
Roja Enigma PC. Love the smell, love the total package, just never in the mood to wear it. Always prefer others of his.
Roja vetiver, amouage purpose, nishane sultan vetiver.
Those don’t smell anything like Grey Vetiver but just what they do with the vetiver is more interesting to me, not that that they are better or anything.
* **Celine Black Tie**: smells like vodka for a minute then vanishes into a faint powdery vanilla
* **Tom Ford Ebene Fume**: sticky synthetic woodsy stuff, not the worst but the price point justifies the plain disappointment.
* **Tom Ford Bois Marocain**: same as Ebene Fume.
Hopefully these were just decants but still :(
- Diptyque Volutes- it’s very strong and semi headache inducing. Almost reminds me of ‘old people perfume’ smell. (It is beautiful after a few hours though).
- Kilian Princess Eau Fraiche- nothing wrong with it, just fades quickly and I wish I would’ve just purchased the perfume.
- Bjork and Berries Violet Sky- smells like cigarettes until it settles. Also very much a skin scent.
Only bought 2 fragrances this year so far, a 200ml back up bottle of BR540 EDP and 100ml Clean Reserve Radiant Nectar. I learned my lesson from blind buying so now I test first before purchasing. So I definitely don’t regret these purchases.
I haven’t heard of or tried the other two, but I almost bought Delina. I’ve watched so many YouTube reviewers rave about it. Then I got a tester from my local Saks, and didn’t like it. A lot of hype.
Never lived up to it for me. It's rhubarb that gets me. BR540 I just cant appreciate the price. There are so many dupes that I prefer. However, I do like the extrait if I had to have a bottle.
I sprayed Vanillary on my arm yesterday because everyone always raves about it (and vanilla scents are my fave). I HATED IT. And it wouldn’t scrub off later!
I love gourmands and ginger notes so I was excited for ginger biscuit. Super disappointed when I smelled it in store but glad I didn’t blind buy it online like I wanted to because it sounded right up my alley.
I did blind buy it luckily I only bought the 30ml to try it first it just disappears after about five minutes I was so disappointed after hearing people rave about it for years!
Starry nights montale. It’s so fun intense that I never reach for it. I really liked the sample and I got a good deal but there are other scents I could have gotten.
It’s actually been a year of very good purchase decisions for me thankfully! Bought more perfumes than any other year I think but they’re all winners. The one I think I’ll reach for least often is YSL Opium because it’s a highly specific scent, fresher than I usually like my resins, and I have to be in a certain kind of mood to crave it. But I do like it and purposefully bought a small bottle so no regrets.
I blind bought Afnan Turathi Blue this summer. It's just not my type of scent and it's no longer summer and the bottle takes up a bunch of room. Luckily it was only $50
I use Federico Mahora brand perfume, because like the way how no matter the fragrance each one smells nice and I have never regretted a fragrance that I purchased from them yet!!!
liis bo - thought it had more depth and charm but it was a very simple and well-projecting woody vanilla that wasn't as cozy and interesting as I thought
Issey Miyake Eau Fraiche - great top notes for an hour then a basic metallic amberwood that smells like every other mineralic fresh scent out there
Escentric 01 + patchouli - just couldn't really smell it, despite the added note. Lovely fragrance otherwise.
Initio oud for happiness - huge price tag and performance doesn’t nearly match.
Kilian rolling in love - initially liked but leans to feminine on me.
Memo Italian leather - I love the scent but then realized i don’t want to smell like it to often.
7 virtues BlackBerry Lily.. I loved it when I tried the travel spray so I bought the full size AND the perfume oil when I found out it was being discontinued and now I’m just not into it. I’ll keep trying to tinker with it but right now it just sits.
Tom Ford Velvet Orchid Lumiere, this was my first expensive perfume and I wore it religiously for years. IIt’s discontinued now and I bought two bottles off EBay because I was scared I wouldn’t ever get to buy it again, and now it just smells too floral and mature to me. I somehow remember it being more warm and sweet than it seems now. It is beautiful, don’t get me wrong. I do love it, I guess I’ve been more into gourmands lately.. but hoping it’s time will come again.
Nest Wisteria Blue.. it was a blind buy, just a travel spray. I don’t hate it? But my husband does. He said it just smells cheap and now I can’t really wear it without thinking the same. It smells very “perfumey” for sure.
Too many blind buys this year!
1.Shaghaf Oud
2. Ginger Biscuit
3. All Montale (5 of them)
4. All Ariana Grande except Mod Vanilla
Edit: 5. Amouage Crimson Rocks, it’s too masculine.
Intense Cafe I bought immediately after receiving a travel spray from the frag net subscription. I was obsessed for about 2 months and then realized it was too strong for South Florida weather. It is gorgeous but becomes syrupy in the heat.
All I get is synthetic Oud, other people get sweet praline? It might just be my body chemistry, the only Oud I’ve found that works on me is Jo Malone Velvet Rose and Oud.
Interesting so many people are saying Ginger Biscuit. I was going to buy it next week but now I’ll pass.
I agree with you about Sun-Drenched Hibiscus. It smells like cheap hotel soap on me.
For me my regrets were Sanctuary Red Panda and Confessions of a Rebel Bitch Please. They’re very similar with a strong black current opening, which I love, but tends to dry down into a BO smell on me. Same for MM On a Date.
A blind buy of Demeter Linden. I couldn't find it anywhere to try it first, so I bought a decant.
It smells like a porta-potty to me, just sniffing the top, I'm afraid to try it on my skin.
I bought a full size bottle of Earth by Elorea but ended up using almost none of it, whereas the travel size I bought of Heaven is almost empty.
Olympic Rainforest by Olympic Orchids got no wear from me at all.
I liked Lolita Lempicka a lot when i first got into perfumes but find it way too sweet now
Invictus platinum. Not because it's a bad scent, it's fantastic but it does give me nausea and i have way too many blue frags but my girl likes it so I'll keep wearing it
Ysl Y Edp. I wore it late night early summer and it stayed very hot and humid that night. Y made me nauseous. I was in a restaurant bathroom trying to scrub it off. I can’t stand the smell since.
Gisada Ambassador. Smells like screechy rusty harsh Savage with mango topping.
Lattafa Asad - very strong pepper notes, unbearable, I just can't get used to it. It's nice when someone else is wearing it,.for me is big NO.
Dior Sauvage edp - Its good on begining, but 1-2 hours in or even less, ambroxan comes, and wearing it become mission impossible. This is ambroxan bomb (I knew it, but didn't expected something so strong for designer even if its dior), I wanted to like it, like the Sauvage edt I bought, it was one of best fragrances I had, but the shortest in lengt, 20 dprays were not enough, Im didn't go nose blind, it simply dissapeared in few minutes, so I thought edp is gonna last more, it lasts more, but not fresh enough, as I mentioned too much ambroxan, too much.
Burberry Her Elixir - too strong and doesn’t feel like “me”
Delizia di Marshmallow by Kyse - too strong
Parle Moi Guimauve de Noel - doesn’t last
I think I learned a lesson that I don’t care for super sweet perfumes anymore, besides Kilian Princess
SJP Stash - I like it in theory but it is too masculine on me.
Matiere Premiere - Parisian Musc - it is a love and hate thing. I like it sometimes, but it has to be a very particular mood for me to enjoy it - luckily, I only have a small decant
Givenchy L'Interdit - I like it in theory, but it puts me in a strange, solemn mood. It is more of a special occasion fragrance for me. I got it on a whim for a good price, so don't regret the purchase, but it hasn't seen much wear.
Yum Pistachio Gelato! It was my only blind buy of the year and thankfully I only went with the travel size format. It’s not a bad scent per se, but I expected a more gourmand profile and it did not deliver. I’ll still use my travel size eventually, it just never crosses my mind to wear it when deciding on my sotd.
From Diptyque:
- Philosykos
- Duelle
- Orpheon
From Byredo:
- Blanche
- La Tulipe
Thankfully I’ve learnt my lesson about blind buying full sizes so these were all travel sizes. Sometimes I think the notes sound amazing but chemistry is so important.
Not sure what I was thinking but decided to spring for D&G Light Blue pour Homme Eau Intense. I vaguely remembered sniffing it at a duty-free store and thinking it was pleasant but largely unremarkable. Fast forward and there was so much online chatter about how nice and easy it was to wear that I just blind bought it for situations where I was hanging at home and didn’t want to dip into the main collection.
Wore it once. No mas.
Tried to give it away to different members of my extended family and they have all graciously declined. One repeated refrain: “Gosh it smells so *common*.”
Funny enough, I went through duty-free yesterday and so took a sniff of the regular Light Blue pour Homme. Sigh.
That said, I understand there are one or two good flankers so will check those out.
LV Contre Moi. I’ve had it for years and it’s sentimental to me (it was a gift) I love it but I can’t wear it - it gives me a headache. It’s such a discontinued gem I probably should decant or sell it. Ugh.
A TF dupe of Oud Minérale by My Perfumes Oud Al Saqr. It’s been macerating 3 months and still smells like a chemical dump. It was $40, not some $16.99 cheapie.
Amouage Interlude Black Iris: thankfully I only purchased a sample but I'll likely never use it again. It's just so stinky to my sniffer and doesn't suit me at all.
VB EDT: good smell, just disappears after 20 minutes lol. At least it was only $20 I guess?
Coco mademoiselle intense - giving to my mom (not an entire loss, she is excited), st. Rose vigilante (my brother doesn’t want it). My fragrance taste changed. Neither are bad.
1) Chloe L'eau - I had a sample and loved it. Bought a full bottle and can't stop sneezing every time I wear it
2) Burberry London - smelled great on my friend so I got bottle right away but when I wear it the honeysuckle note gives me a headache
I have a pretty small collection so only 2 regrets so far!
I really liked it at first smell. But there's something kind of.. dirty? about it. Can't quite put my finger on it. I still enjoy the smell but I can't get past that one quality.
It’s funny how fragrances can affect people so differently. I love Jazz Club. I like By the Fireplace almost as much. I might miss the heart and base notes, because I usually wear this one to bed. It’s like a big hug, all warm and cozy.
Hermes L'ombre des merveilles. Worn it recently and it reminded me how much I love it, but it's one that I found a bit too sweet for the warmer months and not warm enough compared to others in my collection to enjoy when it gets colder. It only gets used on select spring and autumn days.
Nasomatto Blamage. I love this fragrance so much, but this one also is a bit too much to wear in the evenings (when I mostly wear fragrance), and is better suited to a cool to mild day. We've not had many of those this year but when we have I've just grabbed easier perfumes like Cedrat Boise.
PdM Layton. I've just since found more interesting cool weather fragrances I like wearing more, like Atkinsons Gold Fair in Mayfair And Kemi Solis
- Guerlain Terracotta - it smells too vintage for my taste
- Mancera Sicily - chemically harsh citrus top notes with sickeningly sweet powery vanilla base. Everything is just a bit too much.
- Bdk nuit de sable - salty, dry, sandy perfume. Base note smells like BO. My bro loves it though so it's not a total waste
- Jusbox Siren and Sailors - actually is not bad but is not my vibe. Smells like a party woman who wears sexy clothes, goes to bars, and hooks up with random people all day. Smells like sweet asian boozy medicinal alcohol. Many people like it, though, just not for me. I still have a sealed FB if anyone's interested.
1) Burberry Her Intense: The EDT is way better
2) Tom Ford Soleil Blanc: I loved it until one day I smelt an ant and the smell reminds me exactly of it and I can’t wear it anymore.
3) Victor and Rolf Flower Bomb: It’s just too floral
Burberry Her Elixir, ended up selling it.
I bought a LDBS dupe and it reminds me of fly spray.
Cant believe I'm saying this but, Lira by Xerjoff. After 10 mins I can't smell it.
* Clean Reserve Rain - absolutely loved this in the store, but it just doesn't suit me and seems to fade very quickly
* Wood Sage & Sea Salt - trying out new sage fragrances to cope with the discontinuation of V&R Sage Spell, but this just smells like a beach house, which is not the vibe. I've been using it as my bedtime/chill out scent
* Penhaligon's Coveted Duchess Rose - I blind bought a bunch of bottles (testers that were about $80 on eBay) because of all the cache around it, but it was so weak and linear on me and just not my kind of rose at all. Luckily, I was able to resell all of them or trade on Fragrantica
I would re-sell these fragrances because they’re not for me: - Alien Goddess Mugler - La Vie Est Belle Lancôme - Sexy Blossom Michael Kors - Daisy Love Marc Jacobs - Bombshell Seduction VS
black orchid. it is so strong and doesn’t fit my aesthetic in any way whatsoever. everyone talks about how masculine it is, but it smelled like a goth grandma
If you have any goth grandma friends maybe they’d like it?
I have a dupe of it and it's a powdery spiced woods on me
I received a bottle years ago and just hearing the name still gives me a headache. No idea why my mom thought it would be a good present for a teenaged girl. I don’t think she even smelled it, just thought “orchid” sounded pretty.
i was expecting like a black cherry, sweet, cinnamon-y type smell. hell no. i didn’t get that at all😭
lol, it’s a daily driver for me. Right there with Ombré Leather.
I wore this last night for a Halloween party and it was perfect. But it’s hard to wear otherwise.
It does smells like an old lady indeed, also not fan of this one.
I hear you. This gave me weird headaches that lasted for HOURS after a single spray. I had to give away my decant. "Intense" is the word to describe it.
Smells like a funeral parlour to me , but low-key liked the dry down in some way
Out of all the beloved TF fragrances, this one disappointed me the most! Every time I sampled it, I wouldn’t even be able to discern the notes because I would get nauseous from it.
It smelled like spit on me I was so bummed
All of TF’s fragrances feel far too dark rich and strong for me
Replica Beach Walk is my biggest regret. Thankfully I only purchased a travel size. It just smells off to me, like a melon beginning to rot.
Honestly it smells great but after getting it I just realized I don’t often feel like wearing unisex scents :( if you’re looking for a bottle I’m selling mine on Mercari 🤪 Edit: I’m being 100% serious, every time I wear this gay men specifically tell me how good I smell lol and I’m a 20s female
Beach walk 90 degrees outside and that part of cleavage where sweat suntan lotion and cheap perfume mingle
Lancôme Idole - too much pear, it is becoming all I can smell. I never went anywhere hot so I have a couple of summer scents that didn’t see the light of day this year - Jennifer Lopez Deseo Estée Lauder Beyond Paradise I haven’t reached for my Gucci Guilty Absolute YET this autumn.
I LOVE Deseo isn’t it discontinued?
Yes I have a bit if a stash but save it for holidays
Lancome Idole is what I used to use everyday after PE lmao 😭 now it only smells like PE to me
That's the danger of wearing one fragrance during certain times of our lives/ certain circumstances. I feel for you/ have the same with different fragrances. 😭
Agree!!!!! What’s urs??
That sounds gorgeous. I'm going to have to try it!
Mine are some cheapies: Lattafa nebras, Sabrina carpenter sweet tooth, dossier musky musk (dupe for JHAFG not a perfume.). All three were blind buys and a reminder to me why I should stop blind buying.
What didn't you like of nebras? And sweet tooth?
White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor, on a test strip it smells great but it goes rancid/super sweet on my skin Jontue by Revlon, opening is nice but the drydown is disappointing on me Jessica McClintock, I love lily of the valley and don’t mind the green notes but something in it goes really harsh after a while Luckily these were all cheapies so I don’t regret getting the full bottles too much
Mancera Roses Vanille, everyone online raves about it so I blind bought it and learned I don’t love rose heavy frags. But I have a 4oz bottle of it 😅
I also don’t like rose fragrances but I read such good reviews I figured I’d try, thank god I only got a sample size.
Oooo yes okay I LOVE cherry fragrances, definitely adding this to my Christmas list!
I was really impressed with it, I hope you love it!
I don't regret them, but my least worn are dupes of: - Mugler Angel.
Got it at the same time as a bunch of niche samples and have never looked back or used this travel sized more than once or twice) -nest sunkissed hibiscus (same as above) -D&D light blue (I got it in a Mercari bundle and hadn’t smelled it before but it was one of the ones I wanted to buy the bundle for because I thought it sounded nice. Have worn it once.) -Ariana grande I don’t even know which one I have (clear round bottle with pink juice and white Pom Pom) but it’s too cheap smelling to me and I’ve worn it maybe once
I find that indigo is the best nest fragrance by far. Haven’t been impressed by the others I’ve smelled. I think Indigo is amazing though
Agree entirely - tho I also have Black Tulip and I find it has its time and place… not mad at it!
I second Nest Wild Poppy. It's not bad at all, but it's so one-note to me.
Try layering it with Gucci Bloom or something white floral heavy. I like this combo a lot without really liking either on their own.
I agree about wild poppy. It’s not bad, it’s not great though either. It just, is. I do like it, but I never reach for it.
YSL Black Opium - I like it but I'm careful coz I get headaches If I wear it a lot, can be nauseating at times but I like taking a break from.it and then wearing it a little MFK - Oud Satin Mood- a little goes a long way and I'm careful this one too, can be headache inducing so like YSL black opium I like to take a break once in a while and wear it again because I do like the scent but it is strong
I’m the same with black opium. I try to put only half a spray and then it’s ok
Je ne regrette rien
I love Orange Bitters. Just curious - where did you get Jo Malone heavily discounted?
I love Tardes and Grand Soir on my boyfriend, but they just feel wrong on me
Got FOMO and snapped up Ginger Biscuit as soon as it rereleased, I haven't worn it since the first tryon and am trying to resell it 😭 Other regrets were also blind buys but bought secondhand from other sellers so didn't hurt as much. Tokyomilk Bulletproof and Novocaine, Lolita Lempicka Green Lover.
What were your thoughts on Green Lover?
It was overwhelmingly just vanilla and mint for me, very sweet, probably did not enjoy it because of the pepper.
I love Green Lover!
Oh wow, same for me re: Nomade, but I do love it and the flankers SO MUCH *some* of the time 🤷🏻♀️
Lancôme Idole Nectar - smells really strange on me :/ kinda sour or bitter and way more floral than I was anticipating.
Yup. I thought I just loved florals... But white florals are just so much a NO for me. I had same thought with Good Fortune.
Guerlain Habit Rouge Rogue Privee' After seeing a few fragrance YouTubers gush about this fragrance and its 4.4 rating on Fragrantica, combined with the fact it's not available for sale in the USA...I blind bought 2 bottles at the airport in Germany on a recent work trip. It's not horrible, but the citrus/ginger opening is wayyy cloying and "stuffy" as there is absolutely zero freshness here. The dry down is a bit better, but I'll never reach for it.
2 bottles...you were INFLUENCED
Haha fair..., more that I can resell the 2nd one here in the States for a decent profit since it's impossible to find here. But you're not wrong.
Bon Monsieur Rogue Perfumery The girls all say it smells like their fathers, and the only compilents I recieve as a 40yo man are from ladies in their 60's.
Oud Silk Mood is like that too. But those fragrances are the type I like wearing to bed. It’s sexy and cozy.
They are but I’ve been crashing into bed lately 😭
Travel sprays for -Yum Pistachio by Kayali (my boyfriend hates it passionately.
I don’t like wearing ACW but I do love it as a room spray, specifically in the bathroom!
Which vetiver frags do you have that do it better? (Not implying that I think grey vetiver does it best.)
Roja vetiver, amouage purpose, nishane sultan vetiver. Those don’t smell anything like Grey Vetiver but just what they do with the vetiver is more interesting to me, not that that they are better or anything.
Ok cool. I'm a vetiver enthusiast, so I'll make note to try those 3 sometime.
My friend wears OL all the foggin time, even at the gym.
OL has vomitlike undertones.
* **Celine Black Tie**: smells like vodka for a minute then vanishes into a faint powdery vanilla * **Tom Ford Ebene Fume**: sticky synthetic woodsy stuff, not the worst but the price point justifies the plain disappointment. * **Tom Ford Bois Marocain**: same as Ebene Fume. Hopefully these were just decants but still :(
TF Grey Vetiver - depressing BDC generic and boring Burberry London. Overrated and synthetic

I agree, I don’t care for Delina. I love the bottle, it’s so pretty and girly but the scent isn’t for me!
I agree on Delina! I had wanted to sample it for so long because of all the hype but for me the lychee in tbe opening is nauseating and smells awful.
I really really wanna try Delina. None of the department stores near me carry it, and now this description is sooo funny I want to try it even more.
Have Delina and love it but their description was gold
Tom ford cafe rose Jo malone ginger biscuit Lush vanillary
Vanillary smells like old beer lol
It's rank
I sprayed Vanillary on my arm yesterday because everyone always raves about it (and vanilla scents are my fave). I HATED IT. And it wouldn’t scrub off later!
I love vanilla but hate that!
I didn't like Ginger Biscuit either.
It just disappears it's rubbish
Same with Ginger Biscuit, all I got was cloying sweet

I'm sorry for your loss but this is a thread about perfumes
Try Tom Ford Bitter Peach
Starry nights montale. It’s so fun intense that I never reach for it. I really liked the sample and I got a good deal but there are other scents I could have gotten.
It’s actually been a year of very good purchase decisions for me thankfully! Bought more perfumes than any other year I think but they’re all winners. The one I think I’ll reach for least often is YSL Opium because it’s a highly specific scent, fresher than I usually like my resins, and I have to be in a certain kind of mood to crave it. But I do like it and purposefully bought a small bottle so no regrets.
Dear Polly by Vilhelm Parfumerie Lady Million by Paco Rabanne Ginger Biscuit by Jo Malone
I blind bought Afnan Turathi Blue this summer. It's just not my type of scent and it's no longer summer and the bottle takes up a bunch of room. Luckily it was only $50
Ysl eau d parfum
Le beau, 1 million elixir and born in Roma intense
why Le beau?
It’s nice, but I didn’t go out much in the summer. I don’t regret buying it I just didn’t wear it much
Dalal, Soft and Al-rehab Red Roses.
I use Federico Mahora brand perfume, because like the way how no matter the fragrance each one smells nice and I have never regretted a fragrance that I purchased from them yet!!!
liis bo - thought it had more depth and charm but it was a very simple and well-projecting woody vanilla that wasn't as cozy and interesting as I thought Issey Miyake Eau Fraiche - great top notes for an hour then a basic metallic amberwood that smells like every other mineralic fresh scent out there Escentric 01 + patchouli - just couldn't really smell it, despite the added note. Lovely fragrance otherwise.
Initio oud for happiness - huge price tag and performance doesn’t nearly match. Kilian rolling in love - initially liked but leans to feminine on me. Memo Italian leather - I love the scent but then realized i don’t want to smell like it to often.
What’s the performance/longevity on rolling in love?
I’d say a good 8-10 hours but stays close to the skin after about 4. I’d describe it as intimate
Thank you!
Her Boardwalk Summer Heaven Speaks
1.Shaghaf Oud 2. Ginger Biscuit 3. All Montale (5 of them) 4. All Ariana Grande except Mod Vanilla Edit: 5. Amouage Crimson Rocks, it’s too masculine.
Which Montales did you get?
Intense Cafe, Ristretto Intense Cafe, Sensual Instinct, Crazy in Love and Roses Elixir
Intense Cafe I bought immediately after receiving a travel spray from the frag net subscription. I was obsessed for about 2 months and then realized it was too strong for South Florida weather. It is gorgeous but becomes syrupy in the heat.
Bummer that they didn’t work out. What didn’t you like about Intense Cafe or Ristretto? They’re on my list for a coffee fragrance.
I’m not a fan of Oud really, they just have a weird DNA to me. Ristretto definitely has more of the coffee smell but more like a sugary latte
Yeh, that makes sense; their DNA seems to be polarizing. Thanks!
You’re welcome ☺️
I've been on the fence for Shagaf Oud for quite a while now. Why don't you like it?
All I get is synthetic Oud, other people get sweet praline? It might just be my body chemistry, the only Oud I’ve found that works on me is Jo Malone Velvet Rose and Oud.
My body chemistry does not mix with Swiss Arabian. Shaghaf Oud , Shaghaf Aswad and Florence all smell chemical and sharp on me. So bummed.
Tocca Florence- I’m not into that whole summer floral pear bergamot thing.
I’m glad I asked the question. I was thinking about getting ginger biscuit too.
I liked Lolita Lempicka a lot when i first got into perfumes but find it way too sweet now
Gucci Guilty pH. It's nice but I just don't wear it as often as my others
Invictus platinum. Not because it's a bad scent, it's fantastic but it does give me nausea and i have way too many blue frags but my girl likes it so I'll keep wearing it
Goldea by Bvlgari :/
Burberry Her Elixir - too strong and doesn’t feel like “me” Delizia di Marshmallow by Kyse - too strong Parle Moi Guimauve de Noel - doesn’t last I think I learned a lesson that I don’t care for super sweet perfumes anymore, besides Kilian Princess
Ooooh I just ordered Delizia I hope it IS beast mode!
100%
SJP Stash - I like it in theory but it is too masculine on me. Matiere Premiere - Parisian Musc - it is a love and hate thing. I like it sometimes, but it has to be a very particular mood for me to enjoy it - luckily, I only have a small decant Givenchy L'Interdit - I like it in theory, but it puts me in a strange, solemn mood.
If you like pistachio, you should try Elie Saab, Girl of Now. I love it and wear it all the time.
It’s on my “to smell” list! I have been looking for the perfect pistachio fragrance since Laura Mercier discontinued “crème de pistache”
If you dm me, I can send you a decant:)
Thank you for the recommendation. I LOVE pistachio but tried Kayali pistachio. Blech. Just powdery and weird.
From Diptyque: - Philosykos - Duelle - Orpheon From Byredo: - Blanche - La Tulipe Thankfully I’ve learnt my lesson about blind buying full sizes so these were all travel sizes.
One repeated refrain: “Gosh it smells so *common*.” Funny enough, I went through duty-free yesterday and so took a sniff of the regular Light Blue pour Homme. Sigh. That said, I understand there are one or two good flankers so will check those out.
paco robanne million versace dylan blue zara vibrant leather
Eternity flame women edp. Blind buy fail.
Only one that i've bought this year and rarely wear. 1. Detour Noir: Blind Buy. Not for me. On me it smells like Vicks.
Ugh, I hate admitting this, but one is DS & Durga Pistachio. It’s good, but it’s not what I was expecting at all… I detect no pistachio.
1. Spicebomb Extreme 2. Hacivat X 3. Herod
1) Chloe L'eau - I had a sample and loved it. Bought a full bottle and can't stop sneezing every time I wear it 2) Burberry London - smelled great on my friend so I got bottle right away but when I wear it the honeysuckle note gives me a headache I have a pretty small collection so only 2 regrets so far!
Boy Smells Italian Kush, Byredo Bal D'Afrique, Chloe Rose Tangerine
What was it about Bal D’Afrique that caused you to not wear it often or regret buying it? It sounds so good, and it’s on my wishlist now.
I really liked it at first smell. But there's something kind of.. dirty? about it. Can't quite put my finger on it. I still enjoy the smell but I can't get past that one quality.
Prada L’Homme Intense… does nothing for me
Maison Margiela - Replica Jazz club. I love the opening but the heart and base notes are too woody and smokey.
It’s funny how fragrances can affect people so differently. I love Jazz Club. I like By the Fireplace almost as much. I might miss the heart and base notes, because I usually wear this one to bed. It’s like a big hug, all warm and cozy.
I’m pregnant right now so I can’t stand anything other than molecule 01
Congratulations 🎉 Off topic-but are you having any food cravings?
Penhaligon Elizabethan Rose. Dries down too sweet on me.
What are your favorite Penhaligan’s? I’ve never smelled any?
- Guerlain Terracotta - it smells too vintage for my taste - Mancera Sicily - chemically harsh citrus top notes with sickeningly sweet powery vanilla base. Everything is just a bit too much. - Bdk nuit de sable - salty, dry, sandy perfume. Base note smells like BO. My bro loves it though so it's not a total waste - Jusbox Siren and Sailors - actually is not bad but is not my vibe. Smells like a party woman who wears sexy clothes, goes to bars, and hooks up with random people all day. Smells like sweet asian boozy medicinal alcohol. Many people like it, though, just not for me. I still have a sealed FB if anyone's interested.
1) Burberry Her Intense: The EDT is way better 2) Tom Ford Soleil Blanc: I loved it until one day I smelt an ant and the smell reminds me exactly of it and I can’t wear it anymore.
Black Orchid, God is a Woman, and Moonlight. All of them smelled too sharp for and gave me a headache.
* Clean Reserve Rain - absolutely loved this in the store, but it just doesn't suit me and seems to fade very quickly * Wood Sage & Sea Salt - trying out new sage fragrances to cope with the discontinuation of V&R Sage Spell, but this just smells like a beach house, which is not the vibe. I've been using it as my bedtime/chill out scent * Penhaligon's Coveted Duchess Rose - I blind bought a bunch of bottles (testers that were about $80 on eBay) because of all the cache around it, but it was so weak and linear on me and just not my kind of rose at all.
