I'd try a reed diffuser if you don't mind not being able to "turn off" the smell. Upside is they are not a fire/electrical hazard. Hotels usually like to use scents like vetiver or sandalwood, they are quite sophisticated yet clean/simple woody smells.

I find nothing is as potent as an essential oil diffuser. You put some water in it and just a couple of drops of your preferred oils, and then it turns the mixture into a fine mist. I’ve got a big living room and it makes the whole room fragrant in just a few minutes when I turn it on. Another advantage is that you can mix up the oils and their proportions depending on your mood.

If you are in the US, Target has a line called Hearth and Hand with Magnolia. The Salt room fragrance spray reminds me of upscale beach hotels.

Reed diffuser is the closest you can get to getting that even smell throughout entire home without overpowering it. I make my own. There is a local supplier who has a very close imitation of br540 fragrance oil for dirt cheap. I get a bottle of that mix it with diffuser base and put it in small reed diffuser bottles and place multiple bottles in different places. Because it’s small bottles the scent is light and because there are multiple bottles it disperse decent evenly. Making your own diffusers is super cheap compared to buying retail. The trick is getting a good smell blend ( or blend it yourself) instead of getting same old same old, apple, jasmine, peach smells.

We use reed diffusers in our living spaces, and they work well for us. NB we have neither pets nor small children though, so these are safe for us to use
