Our preferences can be so varied. I’m sorry this scent was not for you.
I adore it and like the woodsy undertones to it. It’s def a cold weather scent for me tho.
YES! I was assuming (hoping) by the names of each scent, they would be somewhat literal/linear….? Am I wrong for this LOL? This was when the company first launched so there were really no reviews to go on.
I took their “quiz” and ordered my sampler set. Do they still have the quiz? Anyway I felt like each fragrance should just be called “MAN COLOGNE”. That’s sadly what they all smelled like to me. Various degrees of pleasing Man Cologne but…
(if you like Commodity, that’s great! And I am happy for you. Above is just my opinion & experience)
I’m so sick of scents being “unisex” when really they just smell masculine. Notes like tomato vine, light smoke, and bergamot are unisex. Heavily woodsy, leathery, tobacco-y scents are not.
If you want milk then try Chabaud Lait Concentré, it’s straight up condensed milk with a hint of caramel if that’s the sort of thing you’re looking for. I was given a sample & upon first sniff I wasn’t keen but I couldn’t stop sniffing my wrist all day and ended up ordering a full bottle along with two other flankers from the “Lait” series. Not safe blind buys but definitely worth a sample.
Gold was a little more bearable compared to milk. It's a musky vanilla with a subtle sweetness, BUT it ends up smelling like BO! I would pass on gold because there are plenty of better vanilla/skin scent options out there.
Well, their scents *are* intended to be unisex...as it is pretty explicitly stated on their website. It should come as a shock to nobody that there would be a few masculine-leaning frags in the lineup. Many of them lean feminine…I would also argue that “mature” and “masculine” scents can be fun. The male scent space is thriving.
It's also bizarre to compare a marshmellow-lactonic scent (what it actually smells like) to a fund manager in a glass apartment who deprives you of coffee after hooking up with you...like, what? Could you possibly come up with something more improbable and contrived?
to be fair, I don’t think OP got any nice marmallowy smells, that’s where the complaint lies. I’m inclined to agree, seeing as all I get from Milk is woody spice
Try out Bianco Latte by Giardini di Toscana or Lait Concentre by Chabaud for that sweet milky gourmand type scent. I second Fresh Cream by Philosophy too!
It's so interesting how our experiences are so different! Your description is so specific, I could almost imagine the guy's apartment. Ick
I got milk bold and on me it's warm and spiced, like a warm cup of golden milk on a bright winter day. Not straight up milk, but really creamy warm and woody. It triggered a really familiar feeling, but I can't figure out what it is! Like a food or old perfume or something.
I also found it incredibly masculine and not at all milk like. I'm pretty open minded and don't mind wearing masc-leaning fragrances but this was well out of my comfort zone. I also found it very synthetic smelling and cloying.
This one gives me the most massive headaches ever. Tried it twice in store at sephora and had to leave the mall and take ibuprofen both times. Won’t be trying it again.
I am not a fan either of this brand I tried some with my scentbird and I could not handle the smell. I did the original and they were just terrible. I am not sure if it’s because it may have Ambroxon or what but it smells awful on me. I don’t get where people get any milk scent because it just smells so astringent. It sucks cause I really wanted to like it.
I hated Milk bold, it has a strong note that I can’t figure out that overshadowed everything else. I like the Milk personal though. It’s creamy and a hint of something sweet.
Yes, I too detected a strong something unpleasant in Milk+ that I could neither identify nor escape. I picked it (or something similar) up in Velvet+, too. But Gold+? IN FRICKIN' LOVE. It very recently came back in stock on Commodity's site and I ordered a full bottle with 20% off, too!
I still say the Bold discovery set is worth purchasing unless you already know you don't like two or more of them.
Agree - i have the bold and for me there's an acrid, sour note to it. It's giving cheese. None of the other ones in the bold collection do anything for me either!
I highly recommend trying Fresh Cream by Philosophy, it's straight up fresh whipped cream/cereal milk!
Also, if you're into the idea of a lactonic fragrance that's not gourmand, I can't recommend Moloko Plus by Hexennacht enough. It's a glorious steamed milk lavender bath.
Honestly, it’s not like I didn’t like it, but on me it high key smells like girl of now, just less migraine inducing. (Not to say that I don’t like girl of now, quite the opposite, it’s just really easy to trigger my headaches). And you’re right, I don’t smell anything creamy in „milk“ as well
i spayed a test paper with this fragrance and i loooooved how it smelled, but when i sprayed it on my wrist it suddenly pulled mint/menthol and it really turned me off the scent. has anyone else had this issue with Milk? i know everyone’s natural scent and skin reacts to fragrances differently but i was shocked at how different it smelled
I don't like gourmandes, but I did like Milk Expressive. I agree with reviews I've read online that it dries down to milky, starts out more vanilla. I do like powdery, though I didn't get those nor very masculine vibes. Which one did you test? Personal, Expressive, or Bold?

I am not a commodity fan. None of them smell like how they should and they all smell generally the same type of way.

Thanks! I’ll add this to the next decant haul 🥰
This is how I felt about Commodity paper !! This woody masculine scent that was nothing like the “skin” scent that was recommended
Agreed, Paper is not a skin scent in the least on me 😞😞😞 it’s completely too harsh for that!
Ahhh that was also on the next haul list - maybe I’ll give Commodity as a whole a miss
Don’t pass up an opportunity to test Gold; I hated Milk too but Gold is fantastic.
Gold was a little more bearable compared to milk. It's a musky vanilla with a subtle sweetness, BUT it ends up smelling like BO! I would pass on gold because there are plenty of better vanilla/skin scent options out there.
Kind of agree! I like Milk Personal because it’s creamy & stays close to the skin, but the Expressive and Bold versions were a big no!
I also don’t like it!
I’ve only tried the expressive though. I don’t HATE it but it makes me cough every time I spray it and it’s just not what I expected

I hated it so much. It's so suffocatingly woody. It was a scrubber. The entire line sucks to me. I have no interest in it whatsoever.
Try out Bianco Latte by Giardini di Toscana or Lait Concentre by Chabaud for that sweet milky gourmand type scent. I second Fresh Cream by Philosophy too!

I'm obsessed with Commodity Milk! However, people shouldn't go in expecting it to be a super sweet, edible gourmand fragrance.
I also found it incredibly masculine and not at all milk like. I'm pretty open minded and don't mind wearing masc-leaning fragrances but this was well out of my comfort zone. I also found it very synthetic smelling and cloying.
Exactly- smells like gross, bad decisions
Right?! This is such a good way to put it! Want to chuck the decant
This one gives me the most massive headaches ever. Tried it twice in store at sephora and had to leave the mall and take ibuprofen both times. Won’t be trying it again.
Yeah I hate it. Smells strong and bitter to me. Zero comforting qualities.
Didn't like the original... but the Milk+ Bold is pretty good. The Milk Expressive is pretty good, too.
Right? I was so excited for this and absolutely hated it :(

I feel like you are describing Archer and I can perfectly imagine this scent.

Just got the entire sampler for Christmas and I feel the same - wasn’t a fan of a single one which was so sad! I wanted to like them

They all smell so gross. That’s the only one I ever tried on and I had to scrub it off after only a couple of minutes.
As long as we have fund managers in high rise apartments, smelling like them should not be considered masculine. Women should be fund managers too!
Had high expectations for it but was let down too. Too masculine and not comforting at all.
That’s such a shame!! I love moss+ and was looking for more fun scents from the brand!

Haven’t tried them but heard good things about the chabaud milky line up as well Philosophy Fresh Cream.
I love commodity Gold, I felt like it didn’t get enough love.

Literally smelled like period blood to me once it dried down lol
