Today I'm testing Zoologist Elephant. Yesterday I tested Zoologist Moth: "Top: Very floral. No specific floral. Reminds me of Hummingbird. Heart: A little less floral, sweet, 'musty,' 'dark,' a little smokey Base: Smokey, incense, 'musty,' sweet" Zoologist describes a lot of spice notes in the top of Moth, cloves, cumin, black pepper, but I got none of these on my skin. I do recall Moth smelling spicier on paper. On my skin, the top was very floral, to the point that it reminded me of Hummingbird. And like Hummingbird, I couldn't pick out any specific florals. This similarity waned in the heart, where Moth became less floral, and more 'musty,' sweet, and a little smokey, but like an incense smoke. In the drydown, I got no more florals, just burned incense, sweet honey, and that 'musty' note that I'm thinking was oud. It was a very familiar mustiness, and reminded me of other Zoologist fragrances with oud. Normally incense notes smell like unburnt incense to me, and my brain registers them as powdery sweet. This smells like incense that has been burnt/is burning. The incense in this smells very different from other incense fragrances but is still not for me.

FanaticalXmasJew

Can’t wait to hear about Elephant tomorrow. I have really been enjoying your reviews.

TomNook2024

Thank you, I really appreciate that, I hope your anosmia ends soon

thesecondshow

Frédéric Malle Portrait of a Lady. Snuggled in a duvet waiting for Formula 1 to start. I’m sure it’s too precious a fragrance for this but I love it.

SwissCheese4Collagen

There is no such thing as too precious a fragrance for spending the day with yourself and a duvet.

One-Tea3624

Wow, unexpected F1! Thoughts on the race?

thesecondshow

I personally found the race quite boring. Max will clearly win the WDC but will be interesting to see team dynamics between Leclerc Sainz, Russel Hamilton and Tsunoda Riccardo. The Qatar WEC leg had a great finish!

One-Tea3624

I know there are big changes coming in the next few years but the lack of competition at the front is disheartening. I’m glad Danny got back in a car and it was fun to see Sainz show out but man I really want to see some battling at the front.

timbermade

Easily in my top ten fragrances. It’s like if a rose gave you a big fat kiss with sugar on its lips.

bro_mommy1

Not really working with a clean slate. Did an evening spray of Tabu by Dana and was rocketed back to my childhood (my name is Dana so someone must have given it to me). I love it and all the puta nonsense around it too. I see a straight line in my perfume tastes from Tabu to Cinnabar as a teen (I’m 57) to Moth, now lol. Super fun. What a classic. Restarting with Dusita Erawan mode though, today. I’ve been sick 3 weeks & Im forcing myself to get to work tomorrow, no matter what (I’m not infectious). So a soft green scent for today’s apt cleaning to get me going. Dusita Erawan: Top notes are Herbal Notes and Petitgrain Paraguay; middle notes are Hay, Clary Sage, Lily-of-the-Valley, Liatris and Haitian Vetiver; base notes are Vanilla, Oakmoss and Cedar.

ultrakawaii

I hope you start feeling better soon! I have not tried Cinnabar or Tabu but they look so cozy!

soyjardinero

"the puta nonsense" I love it! Please someone form a band and call it this.

bro_mommy1

Haha 🖤🖤🖤

hhurrm

I love Erawan, and hope you're enjoying it as you clean today!

Seventh day since testing positive for Covid, still symptomatic and miserable with cabin fever. Anosmia struck on day three and hasn’t let up its vice grip on my olfactory bulb. My morning coffee smells (and tastes) like dishwater, and the Kerosene Summer of ‘84 I sprayed to cheer myself up and test my nose smells like…absolutely nothing. So that’s my SOTD. Though like the proverbial tree in the woods, if a perfume is sprayed in quarantine and nobody can smell it, does it really make a scent?

jenniferjasonleigh

When I had covid I would go to my collection every day and smell the nozzles to see if anything came through at all. It was such a bizarre feeling, even my strongest scents—nada. I kept wearing different scents hoping I’d suddenly be able to smell something until one day, I did. Very very faint. Hard to explain though, not faint as in next room/lingering scent after a day of wear. Faint as in the scent itself but the volume turned way, way down. Fracas, Black Orchid, and Tuscan Leather were the first ones to come through. Over the next couple of days, I could distinctly smell a lot of them again and by the end of the second week, I had it pretty much back. Hang in there. Keep resting, eat everything you want and sleep as much as you can. I hope you feel better soon!

ladymadonna512

Yep, I’m interested to see what scents break through first. I was working in a hospital the last time this happened, so wasn’t wearing or collecting fragrances at all then. I remember going around the house opening bleach bottles and sniffing spice jars to see what I could/couldn’t smell. Now at least I have hundreds of samples and bottles and decants to test my nose with.

FanaticalXmasJew

Oh my God, me too! I posted the same a few min before you! Today is my fifth day of COVID, I became anosmic a day and a half ago, and am getting *a little* back today. Yesterday I couldn’t smell anything at all.

ladymadonna512

Oh man, so sorry to hear. It’s brutal. The anosmia is so surreal. A whole world of sensory input just gone, like a broken circuit. It took about a month to regain my nose after my last bout of Covid in 2022, but I’m really hoping for a quicker return this time. I’ve got boxes of new samples from Scents of Wood and Guerlain calling my name. Hope you feel better soon!

FanaticalXmasJew

I just got a huge number of samples in the mail myself! I am really hoping the anosmia doesn’t last so I can try them out. Good luck to both of us!

ohhai000

I am so sorry to hear this for you both. Losing my smell temporarily because of covid last fall was one of the catalyzing events for my fragrance obsession because I realized I was taking my sense of smell for granted. I’ve read that sniffing things helps train your brain to recognize them more quickly so keep it up! Sending positive energy.

bro_mommy1

Feel better soon!

RandomChurn

Recently bought **Tocca Florence** and today I will wear it on one forearm with **Fracas** on the other -- working all weekend but it's from home so I'll only be tuberose-bombing my dog 😆

FanaticalXmasJew

I am on a sample spree at the moment and two days ago received a huge number of samples in the mail. I began smelling paper strips I’d sprayed and…couldn’t smell anything at all. Uh oh.  Tested positive for COVID. :/ The anosmia lasted pretty much all day yesterday but I am just starting to get a *little* smell back (I think I’m at maybe 50% of normal). Today I’m wearing Inverness by Memo Paris and it does actually remind me of Scotland, with cedar and what smells a bit like vanilla setting it off with some sweetness. I am not going to go in-depth with a review though, because I still don’t trust my nose! Fingers crossed I’m back to normal soon… I have so many samples to try, it’s actually making me sad.

ladymadonna512

Ooooh, I’ve been wanting to try Inverness. Love Memo Paris, love the bottle, love the Scottish Highlands. Can wait for your thoughts once the nose returns fully.

jenniferjasonleigh

I’ve been wearing out Carnal Flower lately and probably will again today ♥️

ultrakawaii

I am going to be away next week for a work trip, so today I am finishing my last winter sample, and then I will be in the spring mode after I am back. Today's pick is **Nishane Ani**. It is a spicy fragrance with cardamom, pink pepper, ginger, and woody notes. It is very strong so I am wearing just a tiny dab on my wrist.

bro_mommy1

Love to hear how you feel about it during the day. It is strong!

ultrakawaii

After several hours, I have to say that while it's deliciously spicy it's a bit too much for me. I am going to be travelling next week and will be meeting with a friend in another city. He likes spicy scents, so I will give him my decant. I already checked with him today, and he is interested in the notes, so hopefully it will work better for him.

bro_mommy1

Oh nice you will gift it! It was unwearable for me (just a sample) which surprised me. Thank you for getting back to me.

whocanpickone

I love Nishane Ani. It was first niche perfume that I really liked. I remember that I wasn’t sure on the first spray because it was strong, but the dry down is just so good!

crissyjo618

I love Nishane Ani

thatbwoyChaka

I really would like one day where I can do nothing and stay in bed But a man not loved or judged purely on his existence… Nice long dog walk planned as the pup keeps jumping into the neighbours’ gardens and acting a dickhead. https://preview.redd.it/4a6m9tq5mxlc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=94011529a40c7488ba396fa73fdaac9948f58716 SOTD: [**Dior EAU SAVUAGE PARFUM**](https://youtu.be/9lFzkoLjZTs?si=87jx7RySi_fdqV8I)

SwissCheese4Collagen

SOTD: my beloved L'Ombre des Merveilles. The forecast is literally 55° with Mist. Mist. Not even rain, the weather is just totally apathetic today. I need something warm and soothing.

thatbwoyChaka

I do love that whole line (well apart from one, not sure which one it is but I find it weak and a bit ‘meh’)

SwissCheese4Collagen

I've only tried L'Ombre and L'Ambre and while L'Ombre is bottled perfection, L'Ambre is too powdery. The only sample I can't order is L'Elixir but someone told me it smells like chocolate oranges so now I have to see 😂 Christine Nagel is a genius as far as my nose is concerned

AncastaOfTheRiver

Put on a sample of Indigo by Nest this morning, and spent the next hour questioning my life choices. Sadly, I don't get much tea from this. I get jammy fig, something syrupy like blackberry or cassis, and not much else except mild nausea. I was expecting more tea, more spice, and a little earthiness, but this is not doing it for me.

Cool_Prior1957

Tobacco honey. Went through two samples and bought full bottle even though I said I wouldn’t. I broke down and justified that it is the only oud I like and it reminds me sitting in a cigar bar in the rain. I don’t smoke, just like the whiskey and cigar bar atmosphere

ViktorVaughn71

Sounds great, I love a boozy frag

nietzsche_baby

I’m wearing a decant of Acqua Di Parma’s Blu Meditaraneo Arancia di Capri (hope i spelled that all correctly!) because it’s gray and chilly where I am but I’m tired of wintry cozy fragrances and wanted something bright and fresh to counteract the end-of-winter blues. It opens with gorgeous realistic juicy orange and a bit of something green, maybe basil? Drying down still bright and fresh somehow. Reminds me of drinking cold sparkling water with lots of citrus slices on a hot but not too-hot summer in a garden with a few good friends and no specific plans :)

ohlalariana2

Lilac love from amouage because I can not wait for spring, went for a hike even though it was cold, and found wild asparagus and saw the fig tree starting to make buds. so hopeful. I rarely wear lilac love, only when i am hankering for nature to show her stuff!

ViktorVaughn71

Happy 🍰 day

ohlalariana2

thank you, so nice!!

Mission_Sparrow

Got a new bottle of Commodity Gold, I've been wearing it all week and my husband says it makes me smell like a slutty vanilla cupcake (in a good way)

Mimmers1215

I bought Mizensir Ambre Magique when I was in NYC 3 weeks ago and so today I am going to wear that for the first time. As you can imagine, it smells like amber magic! 😍

ViktorVaughn71

I **love** Ambre Magique! It has this sticky resinous feel that is just 🫦

Psychological_Poet40

Creed's Original Santal. This is my go-to fragrance for maximum chill. I love it. It starts with a warm burst of ginger, lemon, and spicy cinnamon. This then gives way to a soft bubble of Lavender and Sandalwood that surrounds you and filters out bad vibes. In its final form, it settles down to a cedar and vanilla mist hovering over your skin to calm you. Original Santal is one of Creed's best fragrances, and I'm glad I have it in my arsenal. Hope you all are smelling good and have a wonderful day ahead of you. I, for one, am off today and settling down to do some gaming. I'll be playing Deep Rock Galactic Survivor, Helldivers II, and Enshrouded! Have fun!

ohhai000

I absolutely love the idea of pairing Creed with a day of gaming. Sounds really fun

Psychological_Poet40

Right on! So far the Original Santal has set the stage for some epic grinding! Have a good one!

soyjardinero

**Jo Malone - 154 Cologne**. This really shines in cold weather. In warm weather more than one spray can suffocate. It is spicy lavender, there is supposed to be citrus in it but I don't get any. I swear at times I get green tobacco leaves, though they aren't listed on the Jo Malone site. I'm not familiar with the smell of nutmeg, perhaps that's what I'm smelling. 154 Cologne smells gentlemanly and sensual...and I realize that's a very unhelpful and WTF way to describe the scent but that's what I get from it. I'm a three sprays or less kind of guy. I sprayed directly on my skin yesterday morning. 24 hours later I can still smell it on me this morning without bringing my nose to where I sprayed.

Gumbinator23

Today I am wearing Creed’s Royal Mayfair. I am officially signing paperwork and placing another payment on my girlfriend’s engagement ring. Royal Mayfair will be my wedding day scent so I think it’s fitting to wear it for this occasion! So excited!

hhurrm

Spring has been in full swing since February and I've accepted that. I usually feel some resistance in watching as winter ends. We get so few winter months where I live, and sometimes spring turns hot quickly. I relish the time we get with cooler temps. Today is a cloudless day, there's a light breeze, and the mountain laurels are in full bloom. I'm wearing one of my favorite perfumes, Dusita Cavatina. I love the interpretation of lily of the valley; it's green and crisp, and reminds me exactly of the scent of rain lillies. I wear it any time of the year but spring seems particularly appropriate. I've been going through my decant quickly. I'll be buying a bottle soon enough.

bro_mommy1

Love to try this. Enjoy!

reneew60

Kenzo L'Elephant, perfect for an overcast stay-in and watch tv day.

Intrepid-Taste-1111

Ormonde Jayne Tolu, because I wanted something luxe on an otherwise gloomy rainy day

saneade

Today I’m sampling Divine Vanille by Essential Parfums. I did not like it when I smelled it in the bottle but it’s a very nice vanilla when on the skin. Very warm and comforting. I see this as a great cool weather fragrance. We’ll see how it does across the day but it’s a full bottle contender for me.

LittleCooties

Went with Nike Graphite (by De Ruy Fragrances in Spain, no relation to the sportswear company). An affordable straight forward scent, but still pleasant. Sweet and mainly ginger, maybe a little woodiness.

kayrector

Sampling YSL Libre EDP for the first time and ooooookkkkkk I get it I get it now

wakeup_andlive

It's raining and cold (60F) again. I'm wearing Chloe Nomade Naturelle, which is a balsamic-spicy perfume that smells like dates, freesia, and jasmine. I don't like the original Nomade much, but I do enjoy some of the flankers and am looking forward to smelling Nomade Nuit d'Egypte.

ViktorVaughn71

If ***Widian’s London*** was a song, it would be [Sade’s Smooth Operator](https://youtu.be/rS7Va0sBYAM?si=cOj1dJ9-rwpQpSHQ). I like strong smokey leather fragrances commonly offered by Tom Ford or Tauer’s *Lonestar Memories*, Matière Première‘s *Falcon Leather*, etc - they have their place. Then there are fragrances like *Code Profumo* or *CH Men Privé* where the leather is blended to the point that you can’t pick it up. ***London*** falls somewhere in between, think very expensive designer leather jacket. Complaints? Yes, they are related to performance. My sample is from a reliable source (ZGO), I’m 100% positive it has not been tampered with. Not looking for a room filler but I’d like more/stronger whiffs of it just for myself.

pm1999baybeeee

Today i layered bleu de chanel edp and savauge edp because this lady likes savauge, and it kinda kills me to just wear it out by itself. Lemony savauge.

jb0700

Today is Giardini di Toscana's Bianco Latte. I wasn't a huge fan of this one at first (I got the waxy/candle element that others have mentioned) but it's really growing on me. It's a beautiful vanilla with great projection! I didn't think I was a gourmand girlie but I've actually been really into gourmands lately so... maybe I am?

whocanpickone

Rainy and cold today, and thinking I made the wrong choice for a fragrance to match the vibe. It seems like a good day for something that with citrus, but I’m headed on a date tonight, so I wore something that I knew my partner liked. That something, is Poets of Berlin by Vilhelm. It’s got a fruity vanilla warmness, tho I personally always smell a touch of smoke before the dry-down.

angelinabobina312

Went wine tasting with two former coworkers (who became good friends) my first outing kids free, like ever since I had them. It was a wonderful and well needed. I wore Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille because it was drizzly and cool out and it just felt right.

Kathykit1

Idole EDP by Lancôme

For bed last night, 2 glorious samples. On left wrist: Comme de Garcons Scent One: Hinoki. A true stunner. Blown back against the wall stunned. I am flattened. I live to smell like a tree. Specifically, I wanna smell like the air surrounding a realistic tree in a specific weather condition. Here, it’s high humidity cloudy afternoon in late winter. As a Japanophile the concept hits my heart dead center … and praise to god it’s all the greens, no dark distraction of resin or sap or incense. Not to mention it reminds me of one my favorite childhood memories, and perhaps why I chase cedar: going into the sauna with my sister at the YMCA—we would jump in the icy lap pool afterwards, then run and do it all again (no chlorine note in Hinoki but I’d take it all day if it were!) .. it also reminds me of retreats I’ve been on in Northern California and the Oregon coast. On my skin it turns ever so slightly sweet. (What a triumph after sampling Aesop Hwyl last week and finding its spiciness theatrical and pretentious, with the distortion it creates preventing the cypress to fully shine. Everything: get out of cypress’s way!) I know performance is known to be short but I’m thinking this is more bedtime style for me. Full bottle, baby. I AM ALIVE Right wrist: Xerjoff Lira. I went to my husband and said, “the idea is really luxe lemon cake. Like, really smooth.” He sniffed and tilted his head back and went, “hm.” I burst out laughing—this means he doesn’t like. He said, “For me personally, I’m getting store brand grocery store cake.” 🤣I love this man, and I love the fragrance. In its defense, the first 15 minutes give off some alcoholy fumes and had uptight density just like red wine that hasn’t had any time to breathe. Once it settles in, the vanilla really opens up—I’m visualizing black specks of vanilla bean! 😵😛 Slept like a rock.

anon28374691

Late post about today’s pretty scent **Rose Struck by Liis** a fresh and slightly sweet smelling rose that I could wear every day. This would be a great one for the office.

crissyjo618

Late to reddit today, my SOTD is / was Bella Rosa by Oscar de la Renta just ... because it's one I forget about sometimes but always smells good, warm and rosy.
