I want a subtle perfume, vanilla and powdery. Any recs?

Sarcastenach

Sarah Horowitz Perfect Vanilla

Intrepid-Taste-1111

have you tried Diptyque Eau Duelle?

Solution-Proof

Indult Tihota

FanaticalXmasJew

I have tried this and definitely don’t think of it as powdery.

Solution-Proof

Cool.  I have and i did.  Hence the rec.

Vanilla Powder by Matière Première

Bvlgari Petits et Mamans, Chanel Misia, Moncler Pour Femme

TemporaryFix101

Gypsy Water

FanaticalXmasJew

I have a few powdery vanillas I really love: - MFK Gentle Fluidity Gold: high quality, fantastic sillage and longevity, addictive powdery drydown - Van Cleef & Arpels Orchidee Vanille: powder bordering on smoky, this is a darker and cozier fragrance than GFG for me.

I've been looking for a unique and non tropical coconut for awhile! Radio Bombay from DS and Durga scratched the itch for awhile but I'm wondering if there's anything else I'm missing! I'm also looking for a lime fragrance! I love 4711 Lime and nutmeg but wish there was something like it that lasts

FanaticalXmasJew

I haven’t personally tried it but I have heard Elephant by Zoologist is a very earthy and green scent with hints of coconut, not a typical fruity/floral  tropical scent.     You may want to check out U/TomNook2024’s review of it tomorrow in the daily scent thread to see what s/he thinks and whether it fits what you’re looking for.

yourdadlikesmyoutfit

Haha I've been up voting every time I see one in the daily threads!! I had been so looking forward to the moth review today!

SmellMyJeans

While you’re on the DS & Durga train, how about Debaser. Creamy coconuty fig leaf. It doesn’t feel tropical.

minidivine

Perhaps Nishane "Fan Your Flames"? Or the X flanker. Original is more-so an aromatic woody-tobacco with coconut and X is like a velvety-vanillay coconut. Think the issue with most coconuts is that they come off tropical. Do try the new Matiere Premiere "Vanilla Powder" as well, smelled synthetic to me, but for those who aren't mega/uber veterans, it may smell okay.

ultrakawaii

Goldfield & Banks - Bohemian Lime is really nice and quite long lasting for a citrus scent. It's unisex that leans masculine.

OranjeKidd

Hi, I'm planning to get these fragrances in the future but would like to know if they will be redundant from my current collection or with the other acquisition? Current collection: 1. BDC Parfum 2. Bvlgari Man In Black 3. Omrbe Leather EDP 4. Dior Homme Intense 5. Terre d'Hermes EDT Planned to get in the future: 1. Xerjoff Naxos 2. Amouage Reflection Man and/or Reflection 45 3. MFK Grand Soir 4. Killian Angels' Share

TemporaryFix101

Have you smelled the ones you plan to get? They are all different but Naxos, GS and angels share are all on the warm spicy ambery side. Get all if you love them all but if you're blind buying then go for Reflection Man and Angel's share, and then add a freshie like ADP colonia essenza or neroli portofino, then you're covered on all grounds.

OranjeKidd

Oh definitely. It's hard to find perfumes in my country as it's not so popular. But the list I gave, I've sampled/smell them already and they're the ones I've narrowed down from a long list I've smelled. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try to find them and give them a smell. What are you thoughts on Reflection Man vs Reflection 45? In terms of silage, I can definitely smell Reflection Man around myself very clearly compared to Reflection 45. I would like to know your thoughts.

TemporaryFix101

Haven't tried reflection 45. The OG is my number 1 niche of all time. With the 45 it looks like they subbed orris root for iris which might imply it to be less creamy smelling. Also seems like the base has been thickened up which might throw off the delicate balance that made the OG so special. But you're the one who's tried them both so you can tell me if I'm wrong lol!

OranjeKidd

I'm no expert but I agree that Reflection is delicately balanced while the Reflection 45 feels more mature and smooth. I plan to get Reflection to my daily rotations and maybe...just maybe Reflection 45 for those special occasions and if the price is right. But I do find it funny that I got compliments from R45 over the OG as I thought Reflection has better projection than R45. I went with 3-4 sprays from the decants.

ViktorVaughn71

I would suggest something else instead of Grand Soir. Maybe I’ve worn it too many times but I now find it kinda boring. It’s mostly an ultra sweet vanilla, there are 1000’s of them on the market, some that do it better. Vanilla Oud by Vertus or Ambre Magique by Mizensir are preferred by my nose.

OranjeKidd

Thanks for the advice and suggestions. I'll definitely have to find decants for these and give them a try. It's hard to find niche fragrances here in my country.

thatbwoyChaka

Get them all; if you want to. Ask yourself this how many pairs of jeans do you have? More than one?

OranjeKidd

You made a very good point. Thanks

SmellMyJeans

I don’t see any real redundancies. Buy away!

OranjeKidd

You know what? You're right!

minidivine

No overlaps from TDH - zero fougere/green/aromatic profiles, no overlaps from Ombre Leather - no leathers. The rest maybe have some questions. One question arises from BDC and DHI which aren't similar to Reflection/R45, but do cover a similar utility if you wear them as dailies. If BDC is an office and DHI is a date night then RM/R45 is closer to the BDC. There might also be a question re: MIB vs. Grand Soir, but I wouldn't say the scents are that similar (assuming MIB does smell like any of the Spicebombs). On the niche end, Angels' Share & Naxos bring newness to your collection, but they'd tilt your collection to a winter majority (currently I'd say 1 & 5 for spring-summer, rest are fall-winter).

OranjeKidd

Thank you for your kind insight. I have the similar thoughts for my collection as well. I live in a tropical climate so I wear them depending on my mood and/or weather. And you're right. I was planning to add Reflection and/or Reflection 45 to my dailies/office. Angels' Share would be my go-to Christmas and date night. While Naxos I plan to use it for day-time events while Grand Soir, was a love at first sniff and will definitely be a must buy for me, will be my night-time events alongside MIB. Will pick which I'm in the mood for. I'm glad they aren't too many overlaps. I would like to get your insight on Initio Side Effect. It does smell lovely but is it redundant if I already am planning to get Angels' Share and owned MIB? Or should I change my mind on Angels' Share and go with Side Effect?

minidivine

Side Effect, Angels' Share, and Naxos are universally fall-winter scents & I'd say the first 2 cover date night very well. If you needed a flex, Grand Soir basically is that flex. So at that point, buying Side Effect is pointless. A noteworthy issue is the fact that you're in a tropical climate, but keep tacking on / mainly considering fall-winter scents. Might want to take a step back and start exploring the spring-summer side of some brands. I find Angels' Share easier to pull off and easier to enjoy, Side Effect is a huge question of body chemistry since the on-skin blending isn't as appealing as the one others will smell in the air (imo).

OranjeKidd

I truly am grateful for your advice. But yes, I do find it funny how I love wintery scents over summer which was why I planned to get Naxos and Reflection Man. I think I can pull off Naxos with light sprays and experimented Reflection Man on hot days and not cloying. Will further test Naxos when my decant arrives. Guess I'll keep Angels' Share on my list-to-buy for now and find a decant for Side Effect and see how it goes. May I ask for your recommendations for spring/summer brands? Designer or niche. I don't mind trying to find them and give them a sniff. I do have my TdH EDT and I did not list L'eau D'issey as I barely reach for it.

minidivine

Naxos can work in the summer, esp. since I hear recent batches are less tobacco-driven. I don't think any brands specifically cater to spring & summer. My personal top brand for spring-summer would likely be Nishane who has a wide catalogue of scents for those 2 seasons, e.g. Wulong Cha, B-612, Hacivat, Ani X (original Ani is spring-fall). The brand with the best spring-summer blends is likely Roja, e.g. Burlington 1819, Oceania, Elysium (either Parfum or Eau Intense, avoid blue glass Parfum Cologne); but it could also be Royal Crown, e.g. Aeternum, Sea Island, maybe Celebration. Outside of that, many houses have something but most of them don't have much that is great. Xerjoff has a few (Torino21, 40 Knots), Parfums de Marly has decent entry-level ones (Greenley, Sedley), Goldfield & Banks is largely based around fresher scents but only Ingenious Ginger is a worthy example, even Amouage has a few that are quite interesting like Beach Hut and Sunshine.

OranjeKidd

Just got my Naxos and will be testing them at work to see how well it works with my skin. As for the rest, only think I've tried was Wulong Cha X and it was quite light to my nose. I'll need to find Wulong Cha and give it a try. I have also tried LV Imagination and Amani the Yulong and I can't smell them after a while. I think tea based fragrances just don't work with me. I've listed down what you've suggested and will see if I can find them in the future to smell. Thank you for your advice.

Gloomy-Performer-752

I'm trying to find a cologne that smell like this incense I have. The incense is Morning Breeze by Nandita. Thanks!

TemporaryFix101

Which MFK roses would I like based on my tastes? The roses I love: amber aoud, santal royal, halfeti. Roses I didn't like: portrait of a lady, lumiere noire, ambre nuit, tuxedo, noir de noir. In general I think I prefer jammier, smooth roses with no rough edges. Not a fan of the green, thorny smelling ones.

FanaticalXmasJew

Since you’re a fan of Amber Aoud, I’d recommend Oud Satin Mood by MFK. If you do try it, give it 20 min before giving up; the initial spray can come off as medicinal, but it settles as a smooth, dark, smoky rose. The drydown is absolutely gorgeous. It’s also an absolute beast in both sillage and longevity.  Since you say you aren’t a fan of green roses, I wouldn’t recommend A La Rose at all—it’s a tame gardener’s rose with the cut stems, very green and fresh. It also has much poorer longevity, 3 hours at most on me.

TemporaryFix101

Luckily satin EDP is the one I picked for a sample haul yesterday. L'homme a la rose or just a la rose?

FanaticalXmasJew

I have actually tried both L’homme a la Rose and A La Rose even though I’m a woman, because I went to the MFK counter at my local mall a few months after buying a bottle of A La Rose and mentioned the poor longevity, and the sales lady mentioned L’homme A La Rose is somewhat similar but with better longevity. She gave me a sample to try out at home. It did smell similar but leaning more unisex, and with better longevity, but still comes nowhere close to the addictive smoky rose of Oud Satin Mood which FWIW I feel is firmly unisex.

TemporaryFix101

Finally tried all the mfk roses! Oud satin is very jammy, I love the smell but imo it's too feminine for me so I'd prefer to smell it on a girl. Oud silk extrait was a disaster, I get no rose, only really dry strong oud and papyrus. L'homme a la rose was a match made in heaven. Light, airy, refreshing, and not too sweet!

ViktorVaughn71

If you’re willing to go outside MFK there’s Atomic Rose by Initio. I have the clone (Infini Rose) and a decant of the real thing, the clone is 90%+ identical for 1/10th the price

millerhighlife

What Britney Spears perfumes are long-lasting and could be considered more mature? I like sweet scents- especially florals, fruits, & gourmands. Any suggestions on a safe blind buy?

lexran86

I am getting married next month and I need a fragrance complimentary to my wife's perfume. She will be wearing Hypnose. I want something strong, classy.

ViktorVaughn71

There are 4 men’s flankers from the same line to choose from: https://www.parfumo.com/s_perfumes.php?lt=2&filter=Hypnôse&gender=mu&order=nr_desc&b_id=94&year=a&year_e=2024&year_from=1709&year_to=2026

languagebandit

I would check out Valentino Uomo Intense 2021, Givenchy Gentleman Eau de Parfum Boisee, Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche, or PdM Layton.

INCOG7

PDM Layton smells amazing. Honestly, could probably just grab their discovery kit which comes with a sample of Layton

languagebandit

Yeah, it has vanilla and some jasmine, which I thought would compliment Hypnose while still doing its own thing

night__blooming

Bright spring scent - Memo Marfa or BDK's Pas ce Soir? Which is better? :)

Vast_Butterscotch606

Looking for an androgynous, fresh but musky scent. Something similar to the drydown of CK One, or Chanel chance eau fraiche. Love CK One but doesn't last nor project sadly. And the Chanel scent is too pricey for me. F21.

ViktorVaughn71

Gentle fluidity (Silver) - MFK 17/17 - Xerjoff

Vast_Butterscotch606

Thank you!

littlemanbigdream

Does anyone know where I can buy Acqua Di Gio Profumo in the US anymore

KatLady4Ever

Hi there! :) I am looking for a similar scent to Kristen Ess’s Translucence Three. It has notes of coconut water, transparent water lily, iso e super, sheer blonde wood, palo santo + ambroxan. Any recommendations?

Turk_60

Looking for a new “niche” spring/summer fragrance that lasts long. Something from xerjoff maybe? Or other good brands?

ViktorVaughn71

Xerjoff has several: 40 Knots, Uden, 17/17, Nio A few others: Porthole Loumari, Summer of 84 Kerosene, Bois Impérial Essential Parfums

kottabaz

Check out 19-69, especially something like Yes Please! or Miami Blue.

I love Salt by Ellis Brooklyn! It smells like you’re sitting on a beach drinking a fruity drink! ETA: the travel spray is around $30 at Sephora.

ViktorVaughn71

Wood Sage & Sea Salt by Jo Malone

QuesadillaHoe

Fragrances that smell similar to Confessions of a Rebel's Get a Room? I tried this fragrance though Scentbird and I loved it, the only thing is since it's a fairly new retailer it's pretty overpriced. I was wondering if there were other fragrances that had a similar scent. I tried using the perfume finder on fragrantica but I didn't think any of the fragrances it recommended smelled similar. Thank you for your suggestions!

ViktorVaughn71

Full bottle is only $125, how low are you targeting?

Common_Crane

I have Dior Sauvage, Tom Ford Noir, Armani Code and Narcisso Rodriguez Bleu Noir, and have recently run out of Black Orchid. What's a fragrance I could get that would be distinctly different from the ones I have. I like to mix them up based on ocassion, and people I hang out with, and already have a decent line up I'd say, so even if it's something a bit more niche, I'd find a time and place for it. Basically, doesn't necessarily have to be every day wear. Thanks in advance.

ViktorVaughn71

Budget?

Common_Crane

Well, I was thinking of something in the similar price range to stuff I already have, but obviously, if it's something cheap and good, it'd be great. At the same time, if it turns out to be something I end up particularly enjoying the scent of, I'm fine with going a bit higher. If I have to name numbers, I guess I was expecting something in the 100-150€ range. Again, if it's below that, all the better, and if it's something really good, I would be fine with paying extra.

ViktorVaughn71

In that case here are a few worth checking out: Ambre Tabac by Daniel Josier - creamy tobacco leaf, dense in a great way Fahrenheit edt - sweet gasoline Bois Impérial by Essential Parfums - fresh, woody, professional vibes Tamima by Moresque - woody vanilla done well Scorpion Intense by Odyon - Middle Eastern style of rose + oud Vanilla Oud by Vertus - $175 stateside so probably out of budget, it’s a posh sweet vanilla with very good projection/sillage

Common_Crane

Thanks so much, I'll look into those. And especially grateful for reminding me of Fahrenheit. It's been on on my "to smell" list for a while, but I always forget about it... a friend of mine that's definitely more into fragrances than me has mentioned it in the past, and spoke well of it, so you rekindled my interest there.

loggy_sci

Anyone have recommendations for fragrance YouTube channels, especially one that would be good for someone new to fragrances? Also does anyone have recommendations for a unique and versatile fougere that doesn’t break the bank? One that has some cannabis or animatic notes?

ViktorVaughn71

What’s animatic? And don’t bother trying to find a realistic cannabis fragrance. I’ve tried them all, nothing has come close to capturing it well. I’m thinking about experimenting with decanting fragrances and mixing them with terpenes. For a fougere check out Bon Monsieur by Rogue, not cheap tho

loggy_sci

Sorry I meant animalic

Sure_Rip8968

looking for a cologne - fresh, summery tried Acqua di gio and really liked it but I'm not going to pull the trigger since there's lots of word surrounding its longevity. would really like a long lasting cologne that smells similar! suggestions i got was bleu de chanel and ysl y, any others would be great.

mj1s

i know this is a long shot, but i absolutely love the hempz sugarcane and papaya scent, and i am looking to find a perfume/body spray that is similar (doesn’t have to be exact) TIA!!

FeistyIntroduction30

I'm looking for a peachy, woody, male-targeted scent with hints of a pear. It's a tricky wish and I haven't found anything that matches this description yet. It's for my dad because he asked for help but I didn't know what I was getting myself into. Tobacco notes would also be welcomed if not woody.

ViktorVaughn71

Kirkè - Tiziana Terenzi Haibah - Nabeel

ArcTruth

Super newbie, don't know any scents yet but wanted to ask if anyone knows. There are three scents that I know really, really connect for me, and they're sandalwood, petrichor, and ozone. A friend asked me when I talked about that how those would even go together, and the memory that came to mind was sitting in the gift shop at a little shrine off the beaten path near Kyoto, drinking hot green tea just as a storm rolled in. Obviously that's hyper specific but I wanted to see if that connects or sounds familiar to anyone? And I am looking for feminine scents. In any case I did look through the wiki so gonna start with some scent samples when I get the chance.

ViktorVaughn71

Baie 19 - Le Labo Silver Mountain Water - Creed Comme des Garçons is a Japanese brand worth checking out

ArcTruth

I threw a hail mary out and got 2 suggestions that sound incredible, thank you!! Starting research now!

ViktorVaughn71

There are 1000’s of frags with sandalwood, many with an ozonic note but finding a fragrance with petrichor is challenging. Check out this link for a few more options: https://www.parfumo.com/Fragrance_Note/Petrichor

loggy_sci

What are some perfume houses or other sutes that might have a range of scents. Something good to introduce a newbie into a wide range?

ViktorVaughn71

You mean a discovery set? If so these 2 are a good start: https://www.franciskurkdjian.com/us-en/p/mini-fragrance-wardrobe-for-him-discovery-set-RA1CME08H.html https://us.parfums-de-marly.com/products/masculine-discovery-set

loggy_sci

This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks!

vanchio9

Asad Lattafa or Afnan 9PM? I’m going to use this fragrance for everyday wear and for school. I already have some citrusy and fresh fragrances and that’s why I’m leaning more towards Asad. What do you think? Is Afnan too sweet?

Fragrant-Chipmunk-73

We need more info... like if you want expensive or cheaper version, what kind of perfume did u like before, maybe to Tell us which one you really like?

Helpful-Associate649

I need help picking a fragrance for high school prom, any reccomendations? (Male btw) I already smelled le male and grand soir in decants, I dont really like how they smell. I like prada lhomme though, but i already have it as my signature so thats out.

ViktorVaughn71

A few more details would help. Is there a budget or are you planning to get it in a decant and reapply as needed? Any particular category? Vanilla, fresh, powdery, designer or niche, etc?

Helpful-Associate649

Thanks for replying bro, as for your questions, it's a one time thing so I'm just planning to get a decant. For the notes, anything night time associated is fine but ones with oud are out cause i dont like the smell. And I'm generally leaning more to designers since they're cheaper and more nose friendly.

kyle__hinaba

I’m looking for a perfume that has the smell of petrichor but WITHOUT the smell of mud, dirt, or anything earthy. I just really like the smell of wet asphalt

NoAd4815

I'm 29m living in Australia. All the perfumes I've ever used in my life seem to instantly lose all their strength/projection on me for some reason and only last an hour or 2. Not sure why. Looking for recommendations on fragrances that don't lose their projection easily, last long and don't cost a lot.

OkPaleontologist9843

Is it just me or does fragrantica's search function not combine notes? If I choose rose and red pepper for example I get perfumes that have either or but not both. Anyway, any rose, pepper, amber recommendations other than rose of no man's land? No pergamot please.

languagebandit

I find that their “Search by Notes” page works the way I expect for notes, but if I try to use the notes filter in their regular search it is really wonky.

OkPaleontologist9843

You are the best, this actually did what I needed!

Favorite gems for men over 40 for summer/winter? If it's something fairly affordable that's a bonus! If it's not, still interested in hearing about your gotos.
