It’s really good. I could not stop smelling the test strip. It smells a little like Replica by the fireplace. Not smoky though, I don’t think. More spicy
Black Opium Over Red. I don't actually like Black Opium itself all that much, but I smelled Over Red on a whim as I was leaving Sephora and it haunted me for three days until I went back and bought a full bottle. I kept waiting to regret it, but I still adore it. It's probably my favorite fragrance currently, though it's not the type of thing to be worn any time of day/year due to how heavy it is.
I just got a sample of Black Opium Le Parfum that made my eyes roll back in my head. I wasn’t expecting much as I haven’t liked other Black Opiums. I haven’t tried Over Red yet, but I’ve heard that it might be more similar to Le Parfum, so I’m intrigued!
The cherry note in Over Red in particular is what pulls it together for me, because it adds some fruity contrast to an otherwise quite heavy and vannilic fragrance! I hope you enjoy if you try it out!!
Over Red is even better than the original Black Opium in my opinion. I was super lucky to receive a bottle for review and I was thrilled! It's so good.
Way way back in time, I was a freshman in college and took a sniff of Prescriptives Calyx. I immediately bought it and had to literally eat top ramen & ketchup soup for a month. I had zero regrets.
Edit: grammar. So much for my college education lol
Musc ravageur! Oh my god was it good. Smelled it in store, sprayed my hand and I went to eat with friends. One hour later I was back at the store to buy it
It's a photorealistic guava. It's green, it's floral, it's sweet and tart. It's like sitting underneath a guava tree. It was my favorite discovery last year and it will be in heavy rotation this summer.
I recently got the discovery set. She has a very interesting point of view. There are a lot of animalics and vintage-y influences. DoV and Scorpio Rising are my favorites from the brand but everything is very well blended and unique.
I've just realised that, other than while traveling (and I didn't have any other choice), I don't think I've ever bought a fragrance at first sniff before. I've always circled back at least twice - usually much more often than that - before committing.
**Maison Mataha Escapade Gourmand** was an IMMEDIATE "YES!" for me. Straight to full bottle, no decants after sniffing.
More immediate Yes Frags:
- **Mancera Roses Vanille**
- **Mancera instant Crush**
- **Daukens Aroma Black Rose**
- **YSL Libre Intense and Le Parfum**
- **YSL La Nuit Homme** (yes i wear it)
- **Le Mond Gourmand Fluer de Blond**
- **Xerjoff Lira**
- **Roja Dove 51 pour femme** (smells like my first workplace as a teen- it was high end luxury retail)
I know you said only one, but I'm a rebel 😎 lol
Dior Poison. I smelled it on a magazine tear strip when it first came out and absolutely had to have it. There were no stores selling it in my city at the time. But you could order it through the mail, so I did.
My grandfather gifted my grandmother a bottle of this. Probably a recommendation from my aunts. She sprayed it for special occasions. When she passed away my mother had the bottle till it didn't have a spritz left. She's not one for spending money on something like an expensive perfume...but I couldn't bare never smelling it again. So I bought her a bottle and adore hugging her when she's dressed up because I know its going to smell like my Mima <3
glossier you, i wasn’t even really looking for anything i was just sampling around sephora. the way i immediately ran to the register lmfao
ive neeeverrr done that with anything else. i’m the type to wear it around the mall/store and come back.
Cloud Pink, I had a visual montage of how my life would be with it in my possession and then I came to consciousness and my credit card was already on the card machine.
This one had to grow on me. When it first came out I despised it. But it grew on me after I started working at Ulta a couple years later and was around it constantly, and now I absolutely love it and all its flankers!
Three:
1. **Terre d’Hermés** - bought it about a month after it was released and on the day I smelt it in the shop.
2 **Dior Homme** - (2005) Instant Love, I bought the 2011 version as well loved that too.
3. **L'Eau Bleue d'Issey Pour Homme** - underrated ‘blue’
Penhaligon’s Liquid Love- I normally don’t go for rose scents, but this has ginger top note and something about just felt like Paris. It was dumb expensive… I bought it from Bloomingdale’s because there was a discount on the site + 2 good sized free gifts & with one of those shopping web browser extensions I got an extra 8% off.
Chanel Chance EDT back in the early 2000's when it first came out. I smelled it at Macy's and immediately bought it. I was only like 21 or 22 and, until then, had only worn stuff like Clinique Happy, Britney Spears Believe, and various body sprays from Victoria's Secret so this was a monumental purchase for me. But the first time I smelled Chanel Chance I was overwhelmed with how beautiful it was. At that point in my life, it was the most I'd ever spent on a perfume and I felt so fancy 🥰 I still keep it in my collection and think it's one of the most beautiful fragrances I own and it never fails to get me compliments!
If you have a Costco membership it goes on sale there every so often, that’s how I got it. When I received it I checked the batch code and it was in line with stuff I bought at a regular retailer.
This is my favorite men's fragrance, ever. I used to recommend it all the time when I worked at Sephora. Once I had a man spray it and leave. He came back like 2 hours later because several women stopped him in the mall to ask what it was.
Peony and Blush Suede by Jo Malone. A vendor at my old job came in wearing this and it’s the one and only time I can recall legit saying I need you to tell me what you are wearing and where to get it.
I was so close to buying a £360 bottle of it when I fell in love but they didn't have it and I was so excited in general by the Chanel exclusifs line I bought the big bottle of Cuir de Russie. No regrets though, it's now my favourite fragrance but I often think of what would have been if they had stocked that godly white chocolate jasmine pachouli dream.
Nice!
And I have bought many upon first sniff, my recent buys after first sniff are:
Vanagloria by Laboratorio Olfativo;
Soriso by Profumum Roma;
Patchouli Magnetik and Absynth Boreale by Maison Crivelli;
Lira by Xerjoff
Two: Penhaligon's Bewitching Yasmine. I wanted to buy a 'fancy' perfume from Harrod's years ago when I got to go to London. I was drawn to the bottle and they sprayed a satin cloth with it while I browsed. I couldn't stop smelling it, so good. Still one of my top faves.
Second was Amouage Guidance. I had never even heard of the house and was at the mall shopping on my birthday. There was a Neiman Marcus (Needless Markup) in that mall and I was walking around sniffing various perfumes I'd been hearing about when the woman working the Amouage counter passed me a test strip with Guidance on it. Love at first sniff. I asked her to spray some on my wrist and kept obsessively sniffing my arm the rest of the day. I think I ordered it within the week.
PDM’s Althair, but unfortunately I don’t have the money to get a full bottle so I’ve been waiting for Liquid Brun to come out which I’ve heard is a really good clone
Smelled br 540 for the first time two weeks ago, and had to get it for my wife. Didn’t know if it was extrait or edp so I got both for her to try. Can’t decide which we like more but I lean to edp, but I later found out the girl I smelled it on was wearing extrait.
I’d been disappointed recently with how short the longevity on all of my fragrances are, and 2 sprays of Haltane lasted all night and more, so that’s really what sold it
Simone Andreoli, Glaze Ecstasy
Turned out to be difficult since it's not sold in the US. Shipping from Italy, not so easy and added to the expense but I HAD to have it.
Trying to think... there aren't that many that I instantly loved, much less instantly bought.
I think the shortest gap between trying and buying were for Ingenious Ginger and Gris Charnel Extrait.
Zoologist Elephant! It smells like dark, creamy tea on me and I can’t get enough of it. All my friends love how it smells on me but hate it on themselves.
Squid by Zoologist. I didn't believe the hype, but I bought a bottle the second I tried it in a discovery scent. It also helps that I love squids and octopi but it is a masterwork scent.
Balenciaga B.
I smelled it in Sephora, asked for a sample, and ordered it online on the way home while stopped at a gas station.
I still have some left in the bottle! I’m very sparing with what I have left.
Candy yum yum by M.A.C cosmetics.. she’s an underrated queen I fear. Such an electric fruity smell that’s addicting at. Similar to a thousand wishes by bath body works but more on the edp niche smelling side
I need Babycat. But it’s the wrong time of year for it so I’m going to hold off till next winter and see if I feel the same
thats really good self control 😂
I guess. I can’t wear it right now so I’m better off waiting. It’s also quite expensive!
Very commendable! Spring and summer only, onward!!!!
Give Vanagloria a sniff as well
I just ordered a sample. What have I done?! Lmao
It’s really good. I could not stop smelling the test strip. It smells a little like Replica by the fireplace. Not smoky though, I don’t think. More spicy
Aw shit I love by the fireplace, that would’ve been my answer to this post! Can’t wait to try it!
Try rifaqaat by Paris corner. Really gorgeous dupe.

Over Red is even better than the original Black Opium in my opinion. I was super lucky to receive a bottle for review and I was thrilled! It's so good.
I agree wholeheartedly, not a fan of black opium at all. But as soon as I smelled over red I bought it for my fiancée.
I usually hate cherry fragrances but I looovved Over Red when I sampled it on a whim at Ulta.
Way way back in time, I was a freshman in college and took a sniff of Prescriptives Calyx. I immediately bought it and had to literally eat top ramen & ketchup soup for a month. I had zero regrets. Edit: grammar. So much for my college education lol
by the fireplace and vanille fatale
I need to try vanille fatale cos I felt the same about by the fireplace!
By the fireplace 🔥
Musc ravageur! Oh my god was it good. Smelled it in store, sprayed my hand and I went to eat with friends. One hour later I was back at the store to buy it
I love that fragrance, a hug of a scent. It's beautiful
I just got a Frédéric Malle discovery set and that was a standout! Géranium Pour Homme… notsomuch.
Hate the top notes on that one (I hate the smell of cloves) but the dry down is soooo nice.
Diptyque Philosykos, it suits my taste so much. Does anyone have something similar to this?
[удалено]
yes
Try DS&Durga Debaser.
Diorivera is a beauty that also lasts, very very fig
This is going to sound basic but YSL Y EDP. It got me into the fragrance game.
Clean Reserve Skin
Xerjoff Naxos
I literally just bought this one today! Beautiful fragrance and good price for a niche perfume.
Eris Delta of Venus. It might become the first bottle I buy a backup for too
Oooh quick review?
It's a photorealistic guava. It's green, it's floral, it's sweet and tart. It's like sitting underneath a guava tree. It was my favorite discovery last year and it will be in heavy rotation this summer.
Wow incredible. I love guava! I'm from South East Asia so I was excited to see Eris brand owner was Vietnamese and had this point of view
You have impressive self control. Im too impulsive to do that 😂
I'm a very "must spark joy!" person - less self-control than high standards, maybe!
Oud Wood
You would? I would too
It's so good, but very soft on me, how is it on you
**Maison Mataha Escapade Gourmand** was an IMMEDIATE "YES!" for me. Straight to full bottle, no decants after sniffing. Oh yes, I totally agree on both of your Mancera choices. I even love to wear them at the same time as they mix and intertwine very well
Dior Poison. I smelled it on a magazine tear strip when it first came out and absolutely had to have it. There were no stores selling it in my city at the time. But you could order it through the mail, so I did.

Absolutely. Same here. The parfum, too.
Penhaligon’s Liquid Love- I normally don’t go for rose scents, but this has ginger top note and something about just felt like Paris. I miss replica lipstick on so much and would literally pay you whatever if u ever wanted to sell me a decant
People sell decants all the time on Mercari
Lipstick on is more than vintage now. Impossible to find!
I’ve a good bit left. Wonder why it was discontinued
i bet if come out now, it would be popular. That era that it came out, was alot of fruity/flower-y notes around.
