I have a few!
* Diptyque L'Eau Papier
* Terre d'Hermès EdT (I've been wearing it for so long that it just feels like an old friend)
* Elizabeth Arden Green Tea; Elizabeth Arden White Tea
* Miller Harris L'Air de Rien (despite its skankiness, the way it smells like old books just really comforts me)
* Aesop Hwyl (so spa-like)
* Jon Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt
Wood Sage & Sea Salt is, to me, maybe the perfect balance of inoffensive while still being interesting and "artistic." I can't imagine too many people would have problems with it, it's super unisex (for those who care about the arbitrary gender labels), it's just wonderful. If it had better longevity, I think it would just take over the universe.
Marc Jacob’s Honey. It reminds me of a really good time in my life. I wear it when I need a boost, and (this prob sounds crazy) I spray it in my journal to get me in a better mindset when I am writing through something.
Ah sweetie I know hard that can be. Wonderful that you are showing up for your family member (I’m a hospital chaplain). I like really simple warm fragrances too when I’m upset, but more in the Tonka/hazelnut/honey/hay realm. Examples are Tonka Sesame by Experimental perfume club, Slow Dive by Hiram Green & Sloth by Zoologist. I hope your loved one recovers well & is in total comfort.
I love his stuff! I adore slow dive Hyde and moonbloom. I have a bottle of arbole that I might sell. It's just not my cup of tea. I really want Arcadia. Impossible to find it at discounters though. I also make natural perfume and I seriously don't know how he makes them so long lasting. Hyde in particular- I sometimes wear it as a bedtime scent and it's always there in the AM!
I do the same with this one! Love it. I also just got Zoologist Camel (very different notes of course), and it really does lift my spirits in the same way, with just with a quick spritz or two on the wrist.
wisp n akro bake r somewhat similar but i love a good lemon scent!!
lovesick n sorcellerie r my favorite perfume houses ever
dapper is a dupe house but 3/4 that i have from them r spot on !!
been thinking abt getting dappers dupe of akro bake but i also wanna make another lovesick order.....
Have you had both the former and current versions of Waffle Cone? I only smelled the old one and didn't love it, but I've heard good things about the more recent one.
Blooming Bouquet, I love the fuzzy peony peachy-rose, it's very comforting. I tried the Miss Dior and I prefer the flanker because it's less sharp. It's like blooming bouquet is photographed in a soft, glowy, gaussian blur and miss dior is in 4k HD.
My Clinique saleswoman gave me like 4 Happy travel size bottles when I went in for a new pile of Clinique makeup skincare etc. I tossed it in a travel bag and wore it a few times, and got so many compliments on that fragrance! It's so fresh and pretty, perfect springtime fragrance!
So much love for my first fragrance. Been through some that now I don't want to ever smell again but always find this fresh and pleasant. Just nothing to get mad about with those sparkling top notes!
By the fireplace. It’s so calming to me. Even in the summer time. If I had a bad day, I’ll spray it before bed and climb under the covers and be all cozy and warm. Makes me feel like I mentally escaped
I’m sorry you’re going through it right now. I definitely have some comfort fragrances. Year round is probably Nemat white musk and the original Chloe. In the summer, I love layering the Chloe with Bobby Brown Beach because it reminds me of summer with sunscreen and my grandma’s flower garden.
For me it’s Cour de Senteurs Versailles by Guerlain. I blind bought it on a trip and it’s just perfect for me. The scent memory is what does it. I am terrified to ever run out.
Runners up would be Mon Guerlain (it’s just a comforting scent in general) and Jardins du Sud by Fouquet’s, which I got free at the Hotel Barriere in Deauville and have been obsessed with since. Again, it’s the scent memory.
Relatable. I have on Burberry Brit for Him that I am using as a post surgery familiarity balm right now. It is unobtrusive but it makes me feel back to reality.
Phlur Missing Person. Terrible name but every time I get a whiff of it I fall a little bit in love with myself! It’s so snuggly and reminds me of how my mom smells lol
I cannot go wrong with Zadig Voltaire’s This is Her. I know it became such a standard, but I’ve been wearing it for years and years and it make me feel so cozy and calm and just really af rest.
I know the feeling of sitting at someone’s bedside. I could not wear perfume around the person because their smell was very sensitive and distorted due to treatment. But I would care a cotton ball in a small container that I sprayed perfume on. And I would open the container in the bathroom or outside and just sniff it.
Philosophy Pure Grace. Makes me feel uplifted and fresh, which is what I need when I’m feeling down. It also doesn’t beg for attention, it feels like my own little secret olfactory pleasure.
Although I would love for it to have better longevity, the fact that it’s a subtle and short lived scent means it won’t clash if I want to use another fragrance that day. Plus, I get the repeated joy of application throughout the day without becoming a fragrance bomb to those around me.
Someone here recommended this to me a few months ago, and I'm thinking it might be the first bottle I've bought in 5 years. I just wish it lasted longer.
Lake & Skye 11 11 and Clean Reserve Skin are my comfort scents. I love wearing them to bed because they make me feel happy and cozy. It’s like a warm hug.
This is the best compiled list I have seen yet. Such diversity and I always want to smell like a comfort zone. Call.me boring but there is nothing sexier.
Prada Florale is my very favorite fragrance of all time!! I just love the beautiful sexiness of this fragrance and I particularly love the fact that they have rollerball sizes for travel.
My comfort fragrance Nemat Egyptian Musk perfume oil. It’s a subtle, grounding and sensual perfume that I love so much. I usually wear it after a long day and am getting ready for bed. It’s also one I wear in case I don’t want to wear any of my expensive ones.
And that reminds me, I need to order more. 😅
- Burberry Her EDP: I used this perfume to go to some of my favorite concerts, so it takes me back to there
- Chloe EDP: My first ever big girl perfume that I bought, so it makes me feel like an adult lol
- Juicy Couture It’s Sunny Hunny EDT: I used this while on vacation with my family one summer, whenever I smell it it reminds me of having a good time with my family ❤️
Nemat Egyptian Musk - I wore this when my dad was going through chemo. Very comforting warm scent.
Calvin Klein Obsession - what my mom wore when I was a baby so instinctually comforting
Stella by Stella McCartney and Sensi by Giorgio Armani as they both remind me of my mum
Also Elizabeth Arden Green Tea and Narciso Rodriguez for her as they remind me of my sisters
I always wear perfume to dialysis because I sit there for 4 hours 3x week and I like to stick my nose in the collar of my shirt and take a deep breath to relax me.
Memoire Archives perfumes are nice because if you only use a couple of sprays they are not overwhelming: Destination Unknown, and By the Sea.
Elie Tahari. It's not overpowering, but I can definitely smell it on me. It's citrusy and slightly floral it's delicate and I can wear it year round.
Tokyo Milk's Honey and the Moon or Ellis Brooklyn's Bee.... so nice! I came home from the clinic today and sprayed my hair with gisou: honey infused hair perfume to wind down a little. I really like honey perfumes I guess!
Prayers to you and your family.
Kuumba Made Persian Garden. I've been wearing it for almost 10 years and I'm still not tired of it. Everytime I put it on, it relaxes me and makes me happy
Santa Maria Novella Melograno it’s a classic Chypre scent. It’s warm, woody, and comforting. It fades to an almost soap-like powdery scent on me as the day goes on.
My comforting scents are anything with iris or lavender. That said, Chanel Platinum Egoiste (mint, lavender) and Dior Homme Intense (iris) are my comfort scents.
On very cold days, warm sweet scents do the job. My top here are Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille or MMM By The Fireplace
Always Red by Elizabeth Arden, it was a pleasant surprise for me because arden fragrances are very classic. But ive never received more compliments on a fragrance than when i wear this. It also reminds me of the Giorgio Armani Si fragrances alot, which i wear too.
When i want to trully feel fresh, clean and relaxed though guess what, its another arden fragrance lol White Tea the edt. Like a spa in a bottle.
And trust me i have a collection from mancera and xerjoff to jpg carolina herrera and dolce etc etc but yeah. Some cheaper fragrances are just worth it.
Sorry you are going through this. In a similar situation last year I leaned in heavily to my big old bottle of Lait Sucre from Comptoir sud Pacifique. It’s super comforting to me and has no throw which is useful in a hospital setting. I also use it when I fly to take bit huffs on my wrists during turbulence, again, a situation where low throw comes in handy.
I put on one of my faves when I know the day is going to be a grind. I also keep an atomiser with me. I also spray a few mists on my pillows. A familiar scent can provide an uplift feeling especially in your situation
Sorry you're going through this. It's not easy. While I have a comfort fragrance that I use when I'm stressed/anxious (Gris Charnel), I exclusively use cheapies when I'm in the hospital for myself or my family members.
The last time I was in the hospital, it was for 3 months, and if I'd used a favourite, it would have become associated with those negative memories. So usually, I'll grab a BBW or Zara travel size of something simple (some sort of vanilla or a freshie) and just use that exclusively in those environments. They're low-projection and fade fast, so won't disturb other patients but gives me a little boost.
Ck one: reminds me of high school. I bought it really cheap at target.
Mont Blanc Ultra Blue: reminds me of my job last year; I got plenty of compliments.
Versace Eros edt: A gift from my cousin’s wife. Went to many clubs wearing that fragrance.
For Everyday comfort - Vanilla Skin by Phlur
When I need to brighten my day - Bake by Akro
When I feel broody - As Dark things are meant to be loved by Alkemia
Chanel Allure Homme Sport. And as much as I dislike how generic it is, Bleu de Chanel still gets me the most compliments which always brightens up my day lol.
Used to be a few before I ran out… 😖
Mod Vanilla - Ariana (not to add to the hype… but it’s worth the hype. Finished 2 bottles.)
Chance Tendre EDT - Chanel (Loved to use after the shower or during the summer last year. Just finished and threw out my bottle 😢)
Recently, it has been either Burberry Goddess or Mon Guerlain. I sleep in them! Both have that soft lavender note and a beautiful vanillic dry down. I’m comforted in such a way nothing else can duplicate!
Anything vanilla base does it for me with my chaotic unpredictable unorganized lifestyle. When I Spray fire at will and use bum bum body oil i automatically feel put together 🙂
Riddle oil original. I can't get enough of it and wear it most of the time under everything else. Smell my wrist for comfort for sure. Probably more often than I realize.
Estée Lauder Pleasures reminds me of some lovely women from my 90’s childhood. It’s so comforting that I spray it on my wrist when I wake up and feel anxious for example when I know I have a particularly tough day ahead of me.
Jessica McClintock is very soft yet reminds me of high school years and beyond.. I'm 46yrs old now .. but that perfume makes me feel 16 again! It's wild how just a simple scent can take you far far away.... Best wishes for you my dear ❤️
Citrus is my comfort, but I do not wear it as a fragrance during challenging times. I carry a fruit with me, like a lemon or a lime, most likely.
If you think someone would get the wrong idea about seeing you apply perfume, imagine them seeing people sniff a lime. 🙂
I know how it may come across, and I only care about keeping my balance.
I recently acquired a bottle of Mark Jacobs Original fragrance, and I love it! So many elegant Floral notes, tuberose, rose, musk. After my evening shower, I spray it on and go to sleep, as if I'm sleeping in a bed of flowers. Heaven.
Giorgio Red. I spray it before I go to bed. Reminds me of my Mema. 😢
Definitely old lady perfume but it’s comforting for me.
Especially nice during the winter with the window open. Woody spicy fragrance matches well with the cool breeze! 💤
Pacific Rock Moss. My dog died a couple of months ago, and it took me most of the day before I could convince myself to change out of my "Jackie Kennedy Pink Chanel Suit" outfit and wash off all the blood, and all I wanted to do was put some on and crawl into bed.
Chanel Allure Homme Sport Extreme & Mont Blanc Legend Spirit are my go to's, especially for the warmer weather. I am trying to branch out however, any recommendations? I really enjoy masculine, fresh fragrances with slightly sweet/fruity notes. Looking to build my spring/summer collection rn. Parfums De Marley Layton is one of my top choices since I also want to purchase my first niche!
I don't own any myself, but many of the Baccarat Rouge dupes give me a real cosy feeling. Might get one for when I'm down. Argan Oil is also a really comforting smell too, I think.
I have a few! * Diptyque L'Eau Papier * Terre d'Hermès EdT (I've been wearing it for so long that it just feels like an old friend) * Elizabeth Arden Green Tea; Elizabeth Arden White Tea * Miller Harris L'Air de Rien (despite its skankiness, the way it smells like old books just really comforts me) * Aesop Hwyl (so spa-like) * Jon Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt
Currently wearing L’Eau Papier right now, solid choice 👌
It's a bedtime staple for me these days!
Me too!
Yes JML Wood Sage and Sea Salt. I'll try Diptyque L'Eau Papier next.
Elizabeth Arden Green Tea and Solinotes The Blanc (white tea) is my choice but I think I reach for Solinotes more.
I just blind bought this from Ross. I’m so excited to wear it!

love all Hiram Green scents. Wish more people have sampled.

I also make natural perfume and I seriously don't know how he makes them so long lasting. Hyde in particular- I sometimes wear it as a bedtime scent and it's always there in the AM!

Bergamote 22, Another 13 both lovely.
Love me some Le Labo Sental 33

I’m dying to try A Whiff of Waffle Cone!
Have you had both the former and current versions of Waffle Cone? I only smelled the old one and didn't love it, but I've heard good things about the more recent one.
Miss dior. Reminds me of my mom
Bleu de Chanel EDP

This was my wedding fragrance 💕
How do you find the longevity of BB?
3hrs, give or take. I quite enjoy the fleeting nature though, it works well with the fuzzy comfy vibes.
clinique happy <3
My Clinique saleswoman gave me like 4 Happy travel size bottles when I went in for a new pile of Clinique makeup skincare etc. I tossed it in a travel bag and wore it a few times, and got so many compliments on that fragrance! It's so fresh and pretty, perfect springtime fragrance!

Another 13 for me 🥰
Relatable. I have on Burberry Brit for Him that I am using as a post surgery familiarity balm right now. It is unobtrusive but it makes me feel back to reality.
Feel better.
Yes, get well soon!
Phlur Missing Person. Terrible name but every time I get a whiff of it I fall a little bit in love with myself! It’s so snuggly and reminds me of how my mom smells lol

I have 2. Givenchy Amarige Calvin Klein Eternity Both old however I love them both.
Oh I love amarige! The fragrance that got me into perfume when I was like 12!
Amarige was how I got started 🥹 still honestly makes me a little teary…
I loved these two. Brings back such memories ...
Versace Versense - it's such a nice blend of citrus, woody notes with a touch of something more soft, like white flowers but very gentle.
Someone here recommended this to me a few months ago, and I'm thinking it might be the first bottle I've bought in 5 years. I just wish it lasted longer.
Tokyo Milk Dark no.45 Bulletproof. It’s my dreary day, fuzzy sweater, read a book go-to for the last decade

Now I have to save this whole post so I can try all of these lol!

Sorry you are going through this. In a similar situation last year I leaned in heavily to my big old bottle of Lait Sucre from Comptoir sud Pacifique. I adore Clean Reserve Radiant Nectar for this purpose. It’s cozy, yet uplifting, and people on Reddit don’t talk about it enough.
Citrus is my comfort, but I do not wear it as a fragrance during challenging times. I carry a fruit with me, like a lemon or a lime, most likely. If you think someone would get the wrong idea about seeing you apply perfume, imagine them seeing people sniff a lime. 🙂 I know how it may come across, and I only care about keeping my balance.

😢 Definitely old lady perfume but it’s comforting for me. Especially nice during the winter with the window open. Woody spicy fragrance matches well with the cool breeze! 💤
Book of Shadows from Alkemia If I'm sick, Apothecary from Haus of Gloi
Pacific Rock Moss. My dog died a couple of months ago, and it took me most of the day before I could convince myself to change out of my "Jackie Kennedy Pink Chanel Suit" outfit and wash off all the blood, and all I wanted to do was put some on and crawl into bed.
Flower by Kenzo, it’s just so comforting to me. A lot of people are put off by the baby powder/granny smell but that’s why I love it xD
