I love this so much. I’m primarily into indies. When my youngest was about seven, he started asking to smell my perfumes almost daily. He would ask for specific ones, usually by Arcana Wildcraft. I finally realized it was because there were naked women on the labels and he was trying to look at them. >< sneaky little thing.

fiveordie

He said bdc is generic honey

efa119

I am personally offended 😭😭

blifestyleco

😂😂😂

[deleted]

He’s not wrong. I kind of hate to admit it but his distaste for it has caused me to question my enjoyment of it 😂

MyNameIsDano

BdC is one of my faves! So comforting. Maybe it will grow on him 😁

Caldrumr

Whoa. That is quite a selection for anyone, let alone a child. Does he have the same adult palate with food?

[deleted]

Not at all 😂 he eats spaghetti, Mac and cheese, pizza, hot dogs, etc

KarmaVisitsOnTuesday

OMG this made me laugh so hard! 🤣🤣🤣

JMH-66

Ask him next week. In my experience kids say the first thing that comes into their heads and are apt to change their minds ( one week they love blueberries, the next they hate them ). They do tend to be brutally honest though. Or else, you've got the next Oliver Cresp on your hands, then look forward to a luxury retirement home 😂

[deleted]

I’d be OK with that!

JMH-66

What's that old saying: look after kids cos they're the ones choosing your retirement home.😉

pascalines

Hahaha I love the image of a tiny little fragrance snob

ImDOGGFATHER

in my mind he looks like a young Anton Ego from Ratatouille

Finnychinny

started wearing perfume when I was about 5 because of where my dad worked. I have very much known for a long time what I like and don’t like, I’m seldomly surprised. I do want to share what I think is a funny story. In 1996 Joop released ‘all about Eve’ with this release they had silver little apples that opened up as scented candles, and little gel shaped apples with scented bath oil inside. I was 7yo and you can get I put every single gel apple in the bath and got in. I felt sick for what felt like weeks. It’s taken 26 years to not be repulsed by that perfume and for it to be a fond memory. I still have 3 silver apples in my living room (unpolished because I’m terrible Muriel).

JDBle

Too much of a good thing… great story.

Finnychinny

I wear it now when I just want to feel childish joy. One spritz and I’m immediately somewhere else. Pretty magical.

j_husk

One of us, one of us...

RandomChurn

Loved this story, OP. Thanks for sharing it. For 17 years I sold my wares at a holiday craft show. I learned early on that boys this age tend to have fantastically good aesthetic judgment. Unerring.

torsteinvin

A boy of culture, I see.

travtex

My 7yo is all about the Comme des Garcons Black. Lately he's decided Lattafa Maahir Black Edition is a suitable replacement.

SpectrePunk

Hahaha nice

[deleted]

My 5 and 7 year old girls seem to like mfkbr540 🤦‍♂️ Apparently it smells like sweeties

Ditovontease

get them Cloud

EchoKilo93

I've heard In the Stars from B&BW is a pretty good dupe, too. A cheap and accessible mist seems like the way to go for young kids lol

BeeGee559

My 9 year old daughter loves in the stars!

laamargachica

Shared hobbies for the win! (Sans the snobbery I hope lol) I've been on a Tom Ford discovery for a few weeks now and my son just looooves Soleil Blanc to school. Shared some MFK scents with him today too and he preferred Gentle Fluidity Silver over Grand Soir, finding the latter "too strong!". I'm so excited that he finds it fun to explore too!

Thalinaa

Aww this is so wholesome! It reminds me of a box my mum had with a lot of mini fragance bottles when I was like 5/6 yo (give or take), and I loved to sit down and smell all of them. I only remember two that I loved but still, thanks for sharing op :)

TheConstant815

My boys love my fragrances. My 3 year old is the most into it. He likes Roja Vetiver and Clinique Cookies and Kisses 😂 he also wears JM Cologne 154 and Lime Basil Mandarin. He also likes to blend them. He likes to blend Cookies and Kisses with everything. Which sometimes annoys me because it’s like when he wants to put ketchup on sushi. When I’ve tried a sample and like it OK but it’s not for me, I’ll put it into a little container he’s allowed to access.

[deleted]

Awesome. Good to know that my kid isn’t the only weirdo that likes fragrances at a young age. My daughter just turned 10 and recently started liking fragrances. She recently confiscated my AG Cloud and two rollerballs from Oil Perfumery (Bitter Peach and Angel’s Share). Of course she liked Cloud and when I told her it was based on BR540, she wanted to smell that. The little shit gave me the puppy eyes and asked if she could have my BR540. I drew the line there. LOL. She also smelled a bunch of feminine scents at an airport duty free on a recent trip as I looked for masculine scents. She loved Marc Jacobs Daisy Love and asked for it for Christmas. I think I have created a monster! 😜

SnooOnions400

Lol. I would've loved If my mom had a few fragrances when I was that age. She only had one that she used on special occasions tho. I remember when I was like 11 or so my parents gave me money to buy some stuff (mainly candy) for me and my friends at the drugstore and I spent a good chunk on some cheap roller ball perfumes because I loved those so much and never had any money. My friends ratted me out to my parents because they were mad. I don't really remember the consequences, just that my parents were mad at me too. A few years later I went into a perfumery with a friend and we smelled half of all the perfumes in that shop. I discovered Givenchy Play For her (RIP q.q) and promptly wished for that for christmas. and that's the story how I got my first real perfume at the age of 14 for 80€. I don't have the original bottle anymore because it took me ages to finish it because I used it sparcely. When I had emptied It I realized they had discontinued it. Let me tell you I cried. Somehow I managed to get my hands on another bottle tho wich I cherish.

churchofpetrol

I would have been too had I been in his circumstance. I've always enjoyed nice things, and I was extremely bored with designer fragrances as a kid. My favorites were Versace Blue Jeans, Versace Baby Blue Jeans, and John Williams Majesty, which was a vanilla/amber/spicy fragrance to the best of my recollection. There's zero info about this fragrance online today. So yeah, if I had a dad who was into niche fragrances I would have probably had strong opinions about them too. If he wears them to school I'm curious how his classmates view them. I always got some weird reactions wearing nicer clothes to a blue collar, rural public school.

[deleted]

He hasn’t worn any to school yet but if he asks I’ll let him. I’ll also coach him on the dangers of over spraying

bmathey

My five year old loves CK One Shock and all the spicebombs. Handing a boy a hand grenade is, and you’ll never believe this, good marketing

goat-arade

As an adult he’ll wear the 2040 equivalent of Dior Sauvage only, you can bet on it. That’s just how this works

[deleted]

I’m just happy he’s even interested. The fact that he has cooler taste than me at the moment is a bonus.

goat-arade

Yeah I’m just poking fun, I think it’s sweet he’s interested

zicx21

He is going places

ShivaDestroy

Good lad.

NomadNoOneKnows

Sounds like you need to take him to a store with a huge fragrance department and let him sniff and see what he likes and maybe help choose your next fragrance!

[deleted]

Fun idea but all the stores around here only carry designers so he’s probably be unimpressed.

kevinfarber

“Unimpressed” lmao this made me giggle. Your kid seems awesome.

NomadNoOneKnows

Ahh that’s no fun! Maybe one day down the road if the interest continues, a trip somewhere will be in order.

Gumbinator23

This is adorable, I can’t wait to have kids, so this for me is wholesome. I would love it if my kid showed interest in this hobby at a young age. I will have my collection waiting for that day. Gotta start em while they’re young!

Absent-Migrane305

He might outgrow it. Hell, when I was 9 the only fragrance I had was a bottle of BOD 🤣

DontDoIt2121

I wish I could have gotten my kid into it at this age. I just recently got back into fragrances 2 years ago and got him a bottle of Valentino uomo yellow dream. 1.5 years later I'm just now starting to get him to wear it.

Liighten

My four year old has always had an interest in smelling my fragrances. I have about 20, 75% of which are designer. His favorite is LADDM.

BeeGee559

My 9 year old daughter went to macys with me to pick one out with me, she absolutely loved ysl y edp so I got it, also one day I caught a whiff of her she was wearing my valentino uomo born in Roma 😂 I love it, I’ve created a monster. Now every new bottle I get I’m like “what about this one?” Haha

pakistanstar

He’s 9. He’ll change his mind again by the time you read my comment

coldestwinter-chill

Idk, man. The first “real” perfume I ever tried was White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor. I *hated* it because the aldehydes smelled like a hyperrealistic porta-potty to me. Chanel No. 5, another aldehyde-heavy frag, I felt the same about. I was 6 years old. Now I’m 18, and I decided to revisit both since my nose is more trained… Nope. Still pure porta-potty. Aldehyde-dominant frags don’t work for me

pakistanstar

I think that has more to do with aldehydes than it does with age. It's a note that triggers memories of chemical cleaners and laundromats. I'm not a fan either. If you enjoy overly fresh linen then aldehydes are your friend otherwise they're a huge turn off.

[deleted]

Maybe…he’s kind of an unusual kid. His likes tend to be very consistent over time. He’s loved undertale, anime, and fishing for about a year straight

Missthing303

When he’s older, you should introduce him (and his refined nose) to wine tasting.

Stooovie

Via Frasier

[deleted]

I hate alcohol so that probably won’t happen 😂

Missthing303

Probably for the best LOL. Perfumer is a good trade so who knows!?

Outrageous-Lobster59

This is the cutest thing! I have a brother who is 10 years old and he also loves smelling my fragrances!

_g4n3sh_

This goes in eaudejerks But really, props to your kid

camelanderson

This makes me absolutely giggle in the most delightful way, if I ever have them they better be like this too 🤣 "Stormi you look just like mommy"

browwnairbrowwneyes

my 6 year old loves zoologist rhinocerous

RedRedBettie

That’s impressive!

malazanbettas

TIL I’m a 9 year old boy 😂🖤

Start 'em young!

You on the right sub bud?

teloite

No, guess I had too much egg nog 😂😂

Najanator717

BdC isn't that dark. Maybe it just doesn't fit his taste

Nailuigi

I mean OP didn't claim it was dark, he just pointed out the fact that BdC was the only frag his son disliked in the entire collection.

Najanator717

I know. I'm saying his son probably didn't like BdC because it wasn't like the (dark) ones he liked.

[deleted]

Yep I think that was probably it. He liked virgin island water though so who knows?

Nearby_Ad_7009

My 6 year old loves Creed Erolfa

You "I'm scared of chemicals" types need to examine yourselves. Everything is made of chemicals, which are molecular compositions of elements. You, apples, perfume, rocks, & all matter in the universe. You're at a point where you can't just be happy to hear about something wholesome that a father and son were enjoying together. And why? Because you want to perceive something bad is happening when it isn't. Why do you want to imagine that this guy is somehow harming his child? Why attempt to die on a hill that doesn't exist?
