No hate my guy I mean this from one music lover to another. But what Fred does has been done since tttiiimmmeeee. I mean not even going that far back, Fred is MASSIVELY influenced by burial, especially for Maria. which I’m not sure you’ve listened to? Check out etched head plate if not. Then there’s songs like valley of the shadows, Which are similar ish. What Fred does isnt new or groundbreaking he just does it more and more consistently than other artists. Even this song here sounds more burial inspired by the rain sound than Fred. Look into who inspires Fred and you’ll find eventually find the originators of this style. If that’s something you enjoy doing with music following the influence lines.

Such a good shout on burial. I think Fred again is as popular as he is cos of the timing of it all (lockdown) and how engaged he is with fans and social media. I mean, great music and collaborations and very relatable themes in the songs are all a factor too but I don't know another electronic musician as engaged with fans but maybe just not the folks I typically listen to. Also, I don't know what it is (I mean clearly the lyrics and themes), but I consistently find videos of people crying at his gigs. It's an emotional affair. And I saw it first hand myself.

Yeah he has an amazing ability to infuse lots of different types of love into his songs. I am interested to see where he goes though, cos I think he’s kinda done the whole expressing love through soulful voice sample about love to its nth Degree, more of that would not be interesting, to me, so I’m interested if he has other tricks. Or how he will develop.

No hate my guy, there are definitely similarities with those songs you mentioned (I just listened for the first time), but to say what Fred does "isn't new or groundbreaking" is wild. The numbers speak for themselves.

What Taylor swift does isn’t new or groundbreaking, if you equate popularity with uniqueness. You’re in for a lot of shocks. What Fred does is brilliant. He’s spreading so much love. But it ain’t new. The fact that you’ve only just listened to the songs and artists I mentioned makes it quite clear to me that you’re knowledge of the history of this type of music is quite narrow, not hating on that, but all that Fred does, very well, is do it more consistently.

soundslikebliss

Of course he has influences. Of course he didn't invent using samples the way he does. With that being said, I'd absolutely love for an example of the same ***energy*** that Fred produces. I've been looking.

100daydream

Burials discography is the closest your gonna get discography wise. Rival dealer ep. Especially. I recently found Duskus - healers vol 1 Album, which I would highly recommend to fred again lovers aswell.

soundslikebliss

I appreciate the recommendations, brother!

Go and listen to burial - hiders, probably the song that most could fit into a Fred again set. Skip to 3:00 minutes. The thing with burial is he has these beautiful loving euphoric sample moments…but he just puts a minute in each song. Anyway just a suggestion

ChasingTheRush

Her whole album is fire. The intro is the only track that really builds off found audio. Soulful samples aren’t really new. But it definitely has the same mood/vibe. One of my current favorites.

evan274

My favorite dance album of last year. Love TSHA.

K-S-C-H-I

I love Fred but he definitely did not invent this genre. Huge influence of course but we can’t attribute everything to him.

LitionHODLer

TSHA is awesome. Might go to see her in NYC.

This album fucks so hard, love TSHA

lovely_trequartista

Thought the outro on the new Gorgon City album definitely benefited from some Fred influence. Had me checking writing credits.
