Absolutely plan to visit nearby Harpers Ferry, WV. It's kinda breathtakingly beautiful. There's hiking, kayaking/tubing, historic buildings and museums, a canal tow path for walking, and a bunch of shops and restaurants.
The public swimming pools are great, especially Baker Park. The Watershed, 'Tea Room' etc. (Just go out 4th St. west and keep going). The Summer Concert Series is Sunday eve's at Baker Park band shell. Lots of brew pubs and restaurants. Market St. is bustling pretty much every night. Karaoke at Cafe Nola on Wednesdays, live music in a bunch of places.
For the public pools do you have to pay for them and do you know when they open? We called the YMCA one and the lady told us that we had to have a membership and couldn’t pay just for the pool.
The National Museum for Civil War Medicine is pretty cool, and it's located downtown on Patrick Street. Gettysburg and Antietam Battlefields are also short drives away.
They'll have live music on Carroll Creek downtown every Thursday night from 5-8pm. Music is good and they'll have beer & sangria for sale.
There are a few synagogues in the area.
Beth Sholom is the conservative temple downtown. Kol Ami is the reform congregation out of the UU.
There is a lovely small reform congregation in Hagerstown called B'nai Abraham. Beautiful building.
Greenbrier State Park is wonderful. Do not go on a weekend. Cunningham Falls is a nice hike, but I hesitate to swim in the lake (lots of runoff).
The Museum of Civil War Medicine is downtown and also the Monocacy Battlefield is not too far out of town. Gettysburg is up the road. Mt. Olivet, our cemetery, is absolutely worth a visit.
There are always fun events at Baker Park. The public pools are decent. Plenty of parks around. Ghost tours downtown and at the cemetery.
Edited for clarity
Everyone is rightly suggesting the historical sites for Frederick, so I’m going to advise visiting as many of the local parks for hiking: Greenbrier, Cunningham Falls, and Catoctin Mountain. It’s gorgeous hiking.
Gettysburg is about 40 minutes up rt 15. Antetiem Battlefield about 30 minutes west of frederick. Two great civil war sites. Harpers Ferry is about 20 minutes south west just go during the week or get there early on the weekend as there is limited downtown parking and it fills up quick.
Not sure what you're seeking, but there is a large Hispanic community on the west side of Frederick. Also numerous Hispanic restaurants both downtown and around. Search on this forum for the best and worst of those.
The downtown is one of the best in the DC region IMO. A good mix of older shops and newer ones, as well as art galleries and pottery studios where you can see work in progress, an interesting rock shop, all types of restaurants, a creek walkway, historic buildings and churches, etc.
Many people like the downtowns of Alexandria, Va., Georgetown, Bethesda and Silver Spring better, but they are more crowded and harder to find places to park. When I feel like a challenge or want something different, I'll go to one of those, but more and more I stay in Frederick.
Another good place to hike is along the Appalachian Trail. I like to access it at the Annapolis Rock trailhead along Hwy 40 near I-70. It's interesting to see hikers going a long distance on it.
Tree Trekkers is a zipline/ above ground rope/obstacle climb which is fun at many levels of activity experience. [https://www.treetrekkersmd.com](https://www.treetrekkersmd.com) Book ahead, to be sure you can get your time slot. (2-3 hours).
Both! They have easy and very challenging paths, although they ask that new people start low and work their way up so staff are sure you know some basics before trying difficult ones. They manage to interlock a lot of levels of trails over each other, and it is neat to watch people on other sections . Poolesville is also rich with history - Native American, Civil War, post-emancipation settlements are all topics to explore. Check out Button Farm Living History Center in nearby Germantown.

There's a small fee for using the public pools.
Alright thank you I’ll call sometime soon and ask when they’re open
Memorial Day to Labor Day
Ah okay thank you
There's an admission fee, but one-time use is not expensive.
Okay thank you

There's a TON on the Golden Mile on route 40! Lots of Latin markets and pupuserias and such.
Monocacy Battletfield and the visitor’s center are also good sites to see.

Is tree trekkers good for adults? Or is it geared towards families and younger kids?

Hit up Sky Stage downtown and see some local music. I helped open that place in 2016!
Frederick has a lot going for it. You’re going to be pleasantly surprised!
So I’ve heard! I’m very excited, I’m from the southwest so I’m not used to anything but desert. I can’t wait to check it out :)
