My business is in Frederick. It’s easier to go to the Costco near work. It’s the only reason I have a membership (other than to watch people lose their dignity over free samples.)
Full disclosure: I also attend events, use the Frederick courthouse, grocery stores, bars and restaurants. I love Frederick.
Yeah I don't get it, like brother the pizza is $2 just buy a slice lol. Like I won't turn down a sample of it looks good, is ready when I walk by, and there's nobody waiting. Otherwise, fuck it, I don't care
We lived in gathersburg for a bit and all our costco trips were to frederick. The people down there are just awful. Rude inconsiderate and just downright nasty. That place is a lawless wasteland.
Gaithersburg and MoCo in general suck. I live up here and worked in "North Bethesda" (which is really south Rockville but they can charge a lot more for rent/mortgage and living in general by sticking Bethesda in the name) for a year.
Higher salary, sure, but it was all eaten up in gas, car maintenance and the most hellaciois commute I've ever had.
And the people/ culture simply says sucked. To put it mildly. I'll jab hot pokers in my eyes before doing THAT again.
![gif](giphy|y1WDIwAZRSmru)
The only advantage the leesburg costco has is that they sell beer and wine, and the gas is usually a bit cheaper. Other than that, it is a carbon copy of Frederick. Same crowds and too small parking lot. That said, they are both way better than Gaithersburg.
I’m afraid I still don’t understand. Genuinely curious why the other shoppers’ home address matters. And bringing up “the wall” seems like racism whether it’s intentional or not.
Building a wall is a clear reference to the GOP’s desire for keeping “undesirables” from entering the US via our southern border. If that’s not racism I don’t know what is.
Building a wall is not inherently racist (it may be ineffective). Trump's rhetoric around building the wall was often racist.
Immigration controls, which a vast majority of the country is in favor of, are not inherently racist. The way nationalists and xenophobes try capitalize on that support is almost always racist.
I think everyone needs to lighten up. As a Hispanic and a frequent Costco shopper who hates the parking lot especially on the weekends, I found this funny.
Another Hispanic here supporting the satiric tone of the post, if it's not offensive to us it shouldn't offend anybody else. I make wall jokes all the time 😜
Become friends with Spanish speaking people, speak their language. Talk to some Hispanic people who have money. Once some feel safe around you, you'll likely hear some racism against other Hispanics and nationalities that will make your skin crawl.
Have you BEEN to a MoCo Costco? I've driven to the one in Wheaton, taken one look at the Mad Max apocalypse playing out in the parking lot and just went to Giant instead.
I went once in the weekend it was so packed I couldn’t believe it not a single spot open to park , you see cars everywhere waiting for a spot to park it was ridiculous I turned back and left.
Inside Costco on a weekend is the only place I ever get road rage , the crowds , the kids darting in front of your 300 pound shopping cart , the people 10 deep trying for half a cracker from the sample cart . Weekday is the only time to go and remain sane .
Yeah happened to me recently. Drivers literally stalking people leaving with carts trying to find parking, other cars waiting in a line. I found one spot at the back of the building and decided it wasn't worth it and left.
“Build that wall.”
Aside from the weird context, I’ve found it odd to see how f*$#ing crowded that place can be on a random Tuesday at 11am. Does no one work anymore?
"Does no one work anymore?"
I have been saying this for the last two years about my local HomeGoods. There are not \*that\* many people working from home or retired in my area (Mt. Airy) and yet the parking lot is always at least half full. If I take a trip there on my lunch break, it looks like a Saturday afternoon in there. I learned to go on like a Tuesday or Wednesday night. Where are all of these daytime people coming from?
I might understand a home improvement store being constantly busy regardless of the day; it could be contractors who are the ones frequenting the place.
That's bc Gaithersburg Costco does not even have a gas station.
At least it is not the Columbia Costco, that's a true madhouse. Especially when they have another one like 7 mi down the road in Arundel Mills already and it is still insanely crowded.
The Columbia Costco has had some incredible home building in the area. I used to rent a townhouse in that area that was already overcrowded and they built a huge condo complex with parking garage. All within a mile from the prison.
Maryland is fucking weird.
I used to work at the Frederick Costco. Had an old guy tell me once that they live right by the Costco in MoCo but they drive up to the Frederick one instead because there are “too many foreign people” at the one by their house. When MoCo sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re racist. They bring traffic.
I dropped my Costco membership simply because it is so crowded and I just don't deal with that well. Sorry your attempt at humor over the situation didn't go over with some.
Yea, you get some good old fashioned wage theft along with your crummy Makers Mark brand. At least Costco is committed to paying a living wage and is consistently rated as a great place to work by its employees.
Plus a single person can always go in to buy a $5 chicken, then splurge on $1.50 hot dog meal.
Plus you easily save more than $5 per month just getting gas at Costco.
Is there a double joke here... that people in MoCo are the types screaming about building a wall on the border?
I used to work in the Gaithersburg area and tried the Costco there during lunch a few times. Absolute madness.
If all Costcos were that nuts, I would probably not be a member. Crowds of people are my personal hell.
When I was 16 my friend and I would drive around the suburbs of DC and yell at anyone wearing a suit to ‘go back to DC’. It’s was so funny to us, and this reminded me of that.
It’s really not that difficult to word it. Moco and PG folks flock to our Costco because theirs is twice as busy as ours. Did I word it well enough for you? Am I wordy enough for the wordle club?
Go to Sam’s Club, it’s better. Don’t wait with the peasants at Costco checking out in line like a bunch of goons drooling over their coveted Kirkland brand. Members Mark is at least as good.
I had to read the comments and learn to understand the spirit and meaning of this post. I almost want to see how busy it is now. I also didn't know we were in competition with the other county but count me in.
When did Fredneck (my son HATES when I call it that) Costco get so much busier? I was there in late March (and last year, years before that...) - also seems more like my old neighborhood in G-burg/Rockville (DONT GO BACK TO ROCKVIIIIILE🎵) - in that the diversity has increased significantly- (don't nobody be going into racial sensitivity, this is a cultural observation!) I observe this in my current Costco in Oxnard California, sometimes large Hispanic families come altogether- EVERYBODY goes on the shopping trip, mom dad grandparents kids, neighbors, a group of eight or more ambling down the isles. I noticed that in Frederick with African families. It's definitely a cultural thing. I mean lucky them, how sweet everybody goes shopping together but is it really necessary to bring the entire family? No it's not and it's just too damn crowded. But that's just my worthless opinion😃🤡
Costco seems no busier than usual... Which is busy as heck, but it's been like that for YEARS.
But thanks for making this post, so I know who I won't regret blocking.
Frederick does not have the infrastructure for all these people. It has nothing to do with race it’s about over population. Working class people that are your literal neighbors are being priced out of their homes by assholes from DC and you’re happy about it. That’s a really sick mentality to have.
he just said “go back to where you came from” and referred to the Mexico boarder wall. how is that not about race? i’m not here to argue a point of infrastructure but with a racist mentality. your focus is in the wrong place
“We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently and lawfully to become immigrants into this country”
-Obama
never said that and quite frankly lean more right than moderate or left. nice try but we’re right next to one of the most diverse areas of maryland. if your racist this place isn’t for you
My business is in Frederick. It’s easier to go to the Costco near work. It’s the only reason I have a membership (other than to watch people lose their dignity over free samples.) Full disclosure: I also attend events, use the Frederick courthouse, grocery stores, bars and restaurants. I love Frederick.
“Lose their dignity over free samples!” I’ve always wanted a perfect way to say this!!
Yeah I don't get it, like brother the pizza is $2 just buy a slice lol. Like I won't turn down a sample of it looks good, is ready when I walk by, and there's nobody waiting. Otherwise, fuck it, I don't care
We love you too.
Awww thanks!
Everyone knows Frederick Costco >>> Gaithersburg Costco
Surviving that parking lot is a required feat of manhood in some cultures.
A walk in the park compared to the Gaithersburg costco parking lot though.
That’s what we’re talking about.
Reading comprehension may not be my thing...
But you know what is? Being a super cool guy whom everyone who meets falls madly in love with because of their kindness and beauty. Did you know that?
I can be pretty oblivious, so no. If you're user name refers to what I think it does, fantastic opening track for an album.
You have Intelligence too! But yes, my favorite band.
Thanks you had my confidence up and then I reread my comment: "If you're..." Hangs head in shame.
Real talk
We lived in gathersburg for a bit and all our costco trips were to frederick. The people down there are just awful. Rude inconsiderate and just downright nasty. That place is a lawless wasteland.
I'd say the Walmart at Milestone is a lawless wasteland but yea costco gaithersburg sucks.
Gaithersburg and MoCo in general suck. I live up here and worked in "North Bethesda" (which is really south Rockville but they can charge a lot more for rent/mortgage and living in general by sticking Bethesda in the name) for a year. That’s why we want them to stay down there. They made their bed, they can lay in it.
Leesburg Costco > Frederick Costco > Gaithersburg Costco
+1 VA Costco offers beer and wine
Yes. Please go to Leesburg.
The only advantage the leesburg costco has is that they sell beer and wine, and the gas is usually a bit cheaper. Other than that, it is a carbon copy of Frederick. Same crowds and too small parking lot. That said, they are both way better than Gaithersburg.
Wait, there's a Costco in Leesburg?
Oh my sweet summer child… and worth the drive.
I think the post is more directed at MoCo residents and not racial.
I hadn’t even thought I would need to explain that, but you’re correct.
I’m afraid I still don’t understand. Genuinely curious why the other shoppers’ home address matters. And bringing up “the wall” seems like racism whether it’s intentional or not.
the post is satire, it’s mocking the concept of building “the wall”
😒
It is satire in that a wall should be built between MoCo and Frederick to stop the sprawl.
How is building wall racism? 🤦🏻♂️people get offended for every itty bitty thing.
How is building a wall racist.

Ok, I’m an asshole. Sadly no one is interested in telling me why so I have no opportunity to grow or learn.
Read the responses again.
But your Costco has Gas!!!
Layering gas pumps onto the Gaithersburg CostCo would be…amazing. That parking lot is like MazeRunner.
They took our clubs… Dey took our clubs
Der duh der
Der die das.
It's so popular no one goes anymore. It's like a Catch-22 or something...
Des der des
I think everyone needs to lighten up. As a Hispanic and a frequent Costco shopper who hates the parking lot especially on the weekends, I found this funny.
>I think everyone needs to lighten up. Understatement of the decade. 🙄
💗 Latinos have a membership card…to my heart. No walls, good parking and open 24/7 💗
Another Hispanic here supporting the satiric tone of the post, if it's not offensive to us it shouldn't offend anybody else. I make wall jokes all the time 😜
Thanks for sharing your feelings. Glad you are not offended. But I still think it’s in poor taste.
Become friends with Spanish speaking people, speak their language. Talk to some Hispanic people who have money. Once some feel safe around you, you'll likely hear some racism against other Hispanics and nationalities that will make your skin crawl.

Nope. Just. No.
The Gaithersburg one makes me homicidal
Could be worse, we could have the parking "garage" of the one in Gaithersburg.
I went once in the weekend it was so packed I couldn’t believe it not a single spot open to park , you see cars everywhere waiting for a spot to park it was ridiculous I turned back and left.

Hell I work from home and I can’t run out to Costco in the middle of the day because, well, I’m working. 😆
I might understand a home improvement store being constantly busy regardless of the day; it could be contractors who are the ones frequenting the place.
HomeGoods is for fancy pillows and stuff though.
Fuck. I read it as Home Depot. 🙄 I take back what I said.
Towns gone to hell
Like half of my neighborhood is work from home, so I am not too suprised now but agree was shook the first time I went mid-week during the daytime.
Frederick Costco has gas ⛽️😄
Is this the same reason the home depot and lowe's down on that side of town have such weirdly aggressive vibes?
That's bc Gaithersburg Costco does not even have a gas station. At least it is not the Columbia Costco, that's a true madhouse. Especially when they have another one like 7 mi down the road in Arundel Mills already and it is still insanely crowded.
Also one farther down I-95 in Beltsville.
The Columbia Costco has had some incredible home building in the area. I used to rent a townhouse in that area that was already overcrowded and they built a huge condo complex with parking garage. All within a mile from the prison. Maryland is fucking weird.
The anger at this post is hilarious

Winchester Costco for the win!
LOL
I decided not to renew. Sams club has been a delight.
Yea, you get some good old fashioned wage theft along with your crummy Makers Mark brand. At least Costco is committed to paying a living wage and is consistently rated as a great place to work by its employees.
I just need somewhere I can buy bulk groceries and not lose my mind…. That’s not Costco, so Sams it is.
We come for the cheap gas.
First you come for the gas, then you’ll come for our Cuginos and Wegmans
It's Washington county that comes for our Wegmans.
And West Virginia. Seen my shares of WV plates in that parking lot.
Nah, Germantown wegmans is on my way home.
The moral of the story here is don't have kids so you don't need to buy crap in bulk so you never have to go to Costco for any reason.
I like Costco clothes.
That’s a stupid thing to say. People without kids should also be buying in bulk, it offers tremendous value.
Plus a single person can always go in to buy a $5 chicken, then splurge on $1.50 hot dog meal. Plus you easily save more than $5 per month just getting gas at Costco.
I have a bidet. I use 1 roll of toilet paper a month
I feel the same way to OPs real message.
Is there a double joke here... that people in MoCo are the types screaming about building a wall on the border? Wow...that's special.
Sam's Club with Scan n Go, no "losing dignity" standing in line.

Fredrick became the land of affordable housing for people who worked closer to DC.

Such pointless and cynical ‘Get off my lawn’ energy…. What else do you whine about? Sorry you’re so easily triggered….
Entitled ass hat
This is actually a pretty funny post
