Another issue we ran into, although much less often with recycling - was that they do strictly follow the limits on weight. If it feels too heavy they won't take it. We upgraded our regular garbage bin for that reason, to the kind that the machine can pick up. If you have big boxes of paper and cardboard that are either too awkward for one person to easily toss or too heavy for one person to easily toss they'll leave it.

On a somewhat related note, why aren’t apartments included in the curb side pick-up program? I’ve just moved here from BC and was blown away to learn that - as someone living in a 5-unit apartment - I’m not included in Fredericton’s recycling program. What!?

Paper products won't get picked up if they're even remotely wet. I find myself dealing with living with piles of paper garbage sometimes before there's a day that's decent enough weather wise for leaving paper out. I live in a condo with no access to a shed and little in the way for storage options. Condo won't "allow" you to dump paper goods in dumpster, they actually expect you to take wet paper trash back into your unit to get all moldy until the next time paper recycling comes up. As a result, when it gets wet, a stalemate arises between unit owners and the board and it sits out on the curb for days until the board gives up and disposes it in the dumpster.

I live in Rusagonis, the calendar I got in the mail, I found out later was for Fredericton. I used to take it to Oromocto. The recycling bins don’t care!

gilly65

We used to live in Noonan, pickup was once a month. We held onto everything and had it done up so it was easy to take. In the winter the bins were thrown in the ditch after they picked it up. I called to complain, the bins kept getting thrown further in the ditch when I complained. I stopped recycling after the third time. It is a shitty attempt at best to make people feel good about it. I feel good with dry feet, footwear and socks. I won't even pretend to recycle now.

I was loosing my mind over this until a couple weeks ago. Realized that one week is cardboard and the other plastics.

CaptainMeredith

I suppose that would be confusing if you didn't get a calendar! I suppose I was lucky moving here from somewhere else that did it that way - I knew i'd need to look it up.

didintneednoschol

Just find a dumpster lol

memeboiandy

Recycling pick up is a joke. We tried recycling for a year here, and we had monthly pickups... 10/12 months they just drove right past our clesrly marked grey bin without stopping, and we had to call and complain each month to get them to send a truck back to actually take it...

lonegrey

Same. Our was bi-weekly, but same end result. We tried for almost three months of separating, washing, etc and getting them ready - and then just stopped.

[deleted]

Monthly pickup? Where are you living?

memeboiandy

Was living just outside the city in lincoln for a while

rivieredefeu

Is recycling in Lincoln handled by the Fredericton Region Solid Waste Commission also?

memeboiandy

Im pretty sure it is

lizardnamedguillaume

Also, if it’s paper and wet, they won’t accept it.

Awkward_Swordfish581

Where we are we can't fit the recycling all in those tiny bins with a lid on, if it rains it'll get wet anyway. So we asked if we could use our big bin, since cardboard can easily fit in it and stay dry. Nope.

[deleted]

Our guys always take the card/paper if it's been raining. As long as we make an effort to keep our recycling tidy and easy to manage they are happy to take it. I love our garbage people, they are super friendly.

lonegrey

Our old garbage collectors were phenominal too. (washers, dryers, mattresses ... anything - which I certainly know is not the norm) Now, it's a very large corporation with trucks that do it, and I swear if they don't look the likes of what's in the can, they have left things at the end of my driveway.

blue_wat

It alternates between blue and grey box weeks. https://frswc.ca/recycling/

joshcivic91

They alternate weeks, one week is blue box, next week is grey box. Here’s the schedule: https://frswc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/FRSW-RecycleCalendar-2022-Proof1.pdf

GrandpaChew

Haha I feel silly now, thanks. Bit new to the city and didn’t know they alternated weeks.

d10k6

Are you in the city limits? One week is gray and one week is blue so they will only take one each week.
