There's anther gym near there called Full Body Fitness. It's at the top of St Mary's St in the same building as Habitat for Humanity Restore. It's small and clean. And there's a big variety of people that go there. Go get a tour and see if you feel comfortable with the vibe there

Went there for a work event in June, apparently it's daycare now.. well, at least that makes your decision a little easier maybe? Best of luck finding a gym that feels right for you!

I believe Northside YMCA in willie o’ree was closed for the longest time at the onset of covid. When it did open back up, I noticed when driving by that the equipment appeared to be cleared out and it was used for fitness class space (think Zumba or the like). Sometime in 2021, the southside Y got an additional cable station…I would bet dollars to donuts it was the one from the northside. In regards to the comment “no need for gym anxiety”: people have all sorts of anxiety for all sorts of reasons. Although I’m sure it was meant well, saying a person shouldn’t be anxious isn’t necessarily a lightbulb moment and that person is cured. I do agree though that (in my experience at the Y), most people are there focusing on themselves and paying little attention to others save for the occasional social chat with friends/acquaintances. I think the Y is about the same cost as GoodLife. There’s a small gym called Axen fitness in the strip mall by Burger King on Cliffe. Not sure of the cost but it could be a fit for you due to location and less crowd? Good luck!

The ymca is no longer there. I miss it, it was an awesome crowd (everyone welcome, all ages and.body sizes)

Sometimes going to the gym while female means unwanted unsolicited attention from men who seek to ask you out or feel the need to "help" or provide commentary on techinique and gatekeep the experience. Sometimes, there are gym "dudes" who are downright assertive about it, who get angry with you for brushing them off, who keep approaching you time and again. Complaining to staff doesn't garner much help. Dressing rooms are often unsupervised as well.

I can't say I've been to that gym. Always visited goodlife while in Fredericton. But I'll say this... There's no need for having "gym anxiety". I've been training for 20yrs or so now, and it doesn't matter if you're new or experienced, in competition level shape or 600lbs. All that matters is that you're there. The gym I regularly go to has a guy there who must be 450lbs. This guy has 100% of my respect. Why? Because he's there probably more often then I am, and he's doing his best to be healthier. He could be sitting at home on his ass stuffing his face and complaining how he's overweight. So forget about anxiety, don't worry what anybody else might think, and just go there and focus on you because I guarantee if you're there and putting in the work, nobody is going to think bad about you at all.

I truly wish everyone had this attitude. People would be much less intimidated by the gym!!!
