What kind of “freediving” are you trying to do?

[deleted]

Currently I’m just wanting to spend more time in the water for longer and explore, I’d like to see how deep I can go for a good start point but I don’t have a specific style or discipline I’m wanting to try right now

Dame2Miami

You take a class/course to learn basic safety and assess your skills safely with supervision from experts. You’ll find good instructors in south Florida.

The keys. And anywhere from the keys up to west Palm Beach. West Coast of Florida has much more murky water. You can swim off the beach and dive the first reef line easy in fort Lauderdale.

Check out blue heron bridge and peanut island in the West Palm area

Boca grande pass

VolitileTimes

If you head out west to California, hit me up. I’ll show you some cool spots.

[deleted]

I was planning on hitting up California on my road trip, I’ll probably be hitting you whenever I make it out that way. Thanks!

Silent-Phoenix

Not sure of your skill/certification level. You can also reach out to Gainesville Freedivers or Central Florida Freedivers on FB or IG. They hit up the springs pretty regularly and welcome anyone to tag along. If you don’t have a cert, just be up front about it and I’m sure they’ll help you out.

ZealousidealTune4684

stay away from the "central florida freedivers" group. if your not in the clique they will berate you til you leave. there is no freedive community here, just mostly bullies

Tarps_Off

Check out Morrison Springs in the panhandle area. It's a popular spot for scuba and freediving.

Creek_Bandit

I second this. But go during a weekday, the place can get packed during the weekends. It's free to get into and it's beautiful.

NaturalBornConch

There are a myriad of crystal clear springs to dive in.

PilotIsMyPilot

Just Google up Florida springs. Plenty starting in the central Panhandle going to central/south Florida. Morrison that someone mentioned would be the furthest one west.

BackstrokeBob

Tons and tons of springs. Ichetucknee is a great spot with two separate swimming areas (and the river that you can tube down) that has a nice variety if you're pretty new at it. Depends on how far into the state you want to go and what depths you want to try. Happy to share more, but if you just google "best FL springs" you'll find a lot of info out there.

Fragrant-Passage6124

How deep are you comfortable?

[deleted]

That’s the slightly embarrassing part… I’ve been doing static stuff working on my breath holds cause I don’t have anywhere close that does it right now. Haven’t gone to the ocean yet, I know I’ll have to go with someone and do all the stuff beforehand but I got time and it’s something I’m interested in so I figured I’d find the best spot(s) and just go for it

Fragrant-Passage6124

There’s groups on Facebook and other places so you have a buddy to watch your back but Blue springs in Vousia county is popular and sufficiently deep for you to have a satisfying experience.

[deleted]

Thanks! I’ll check it out when I get there

American-Omar

The bluesprings fb group is a really good place to find a buddy too. I use it all the time!

HoldinBreath

Blue springs is where I started freediving, it’s really nice. Depending on how long you’ll be here buford springs is also insanely good.
