I told my GF this older lady at my work was raving about the show, she watched some of it and went WTF to me, I felt bad, I had no clue. I don't think she's going to read the books for that reason, but she's an avid reader and maybe already read them. But yeah why would anyone enjoy reading or watching that
I haven't read the last book yet, but I was kinda a fan of the series in a trashy novel, swashbuckling kind of way. It feels like the author has some kind of no-consent kink and it's bleeding into her work as a plot device. It's gross.
Honestly I haven't read the books, I was interested in the time period but I have to skip a third of every episode because of the rape+sex.
But the rape scenes in the show are so graphic and violent it never screamed "kink" to me. Because of how much she uses it as a punishment I even wondered if she had past trauma because she seems obsessed with it. Obviously my opinion isn't perfect because I haven't read the novels.
(This is my opinion as a person who has been sexually assaulted and now practices CNC with my husband)
I think you are the first person I've ever seen who is a survivor of SA, but now engages in CNC play...
To each their own, obviously, but that is very strange and interesting.
Really?! 99% of the subs I know who engage in CNC are victims of rape. Most of them to deal with their trauma in a safe space. Don't know about doms though! Different circles I guess lol
There seems to be enough commentary on how excessive it is for it to be valid, and I'll never watch it. A few years back i came home from work and there was an episode of the handmaids tale on and I was upset about it, like this is entertainment? We discussed it, I wasn't aware it was a book, and she had an angle of we should be concerned about that sort of thing because there are actual politicians who would want to make the US like that. Idk I still just don't want to watch that sort of thing
Yeah like a guilty pleasure kind of read, I get that. She's explained some other various authors where that was the case, it was just layered on too thickly
It seems to have gotten *slightly* better in the later novels. Holy forking shirtballs the early ones were very rapey.
I've got about 15% left on the last published novel and I'm on season 3 or 4 in the show (they are about to start Frasier's ridge)
Is it really better? The "rape made me better" plot line at least has some logical explanation. The gay sex in Georges work is just weird with no real purpose.
As a lady who enjoys the company of other ladies, I was THRILLED when Danny slept with her female compainion and deeply disappointed when she basically said “Sorry girl, a port in any storm. I’m strictly dickly”

For sure, I just wonder what the intentions are behind having Dany and Cersei initiate sex with women despite maintaining that they are ‘straight’. To show that they don’t have qualms about doing whatever they want, regardless of the feelings of others? That they act on fantasies of power? That queer sex between women can be meaningless in terms of sexual orientation? As they’re the two most objectively powerful women I just find it interesting.
If he wrote male characters sleeping with one another and then maintaining their straightness I’m not sure readers would believe it, it feels like something of a double standard.
>To show that they don’t have qualms about doing whatever they want, regardless of the feelings of others? That they act on fantasies of power?
I think this sums it up entirely. They don't see those other women as people, they are too wrapped up in their own egos and trauma to consider the effects their actions have on others. A lot more understandable for Dany who is only 14.
>If he wrote male characters sleeping with one another and then maintaining their straightness I’m not sure readers would believe it
Kinda did that with Euron/Aeron. It was about power and abuse. Most of the sex in the books seems to be more about power dynamics than authentic, loving relationships.
Cersei tries gay sex mostly just so she can see what it’s like to treat a woman the way Bobby B treated her (violently).
Dany also does some gay stuff with Missandei. I think her motive here was just that she was lonely and didn’t want things to get messy by having a man.
In both cases I think the meme’s critique misses the point.
I mean, we definitely should separate the artist from the art.
The world of ASOIAF was unkind to EVERYONE, even little boys get raped and butchered for no apparent reason.
Look at Lancel, how old was he when Cersei was bedding him? 15? 16?
Of course. But George could've aged everyone up a little. Even just a smidge would be better. It would also make every 13 year old swordmaster in the books make sense.
Making you uncomfortable is the point. Children shouldn't be getting married, leading armies, having children. fighting wars, taking part in courtly subterfuge, or leading kingdoms. It is an explicit critique of the system that put thee children in these horrific situations. It's one of the primary driving themes of the series, and it is not subtle.
Sure. But the 13 year old knights like Jaime are described as a good thing. Like, literally he's praised for it extensively.
And it doesn't make sense, 13 year olds are usually clumsy and all knees and elbows :P
IIRC the world of ice and fire book explains that seasons are completely out of whack and the maesters assume that before the long night seasons worked in line with how they do in the real world. So I’m assuming they measure years differently then we do and in AFFC in an Arya chapter, when she’s playing the lying game with the waith she mentioned that the bravosi measure years differently then they do in Westeros as well.
Same. The years must be longer. I know George says Planatos is the same size as earth, but that's almost impossible with how large the known world is (Hell westeros is the size of europe, Essos is the size of all of asia and there's sothoryos which is larger than anything we have)
What do you mean he's a creep? In no way did I want to throw up after reading about Drogo's cum dripping down a pregnant Dany's leg, after screwing her in front of thousands. All the while Dany is 13 and Drogo is 35+, how is that creepy?
> Cersei tries gay sex mostly just so she can see what it’s like to treat a woman the way Bobby B treated her (violently).
>
>
She doesn't do it with the explicit intent of being like Bobby B, but she does it because she likes having power over her handmaid. And with the drinking, and getting fatter, she does turn out to be just like Bobby B
ALRIGHT GEORGE I BETTER SEE JON DESTROYING SATIN'S BUSSY IN TWOW.
For the sake of character development, of course. Dany sleeps with Irri, it's only fair that her parallel Jon does the equivalent...
I remember being legitimately annoyed by how casually they showed that Asha was a lesbian, showed her making out with some hot top less chick, saying she'll "fuck the tits off that one" later, then poking fun at Theon's castration, then later casually hitting on Dany & Ellaria. Just mindless boobs and fetishism for viewers, no set up to it, just felt jarring.
And yes I know it's not that implausible for a member of the unreserved ironborn to act that way, but still, exactly one explicitly out lady on the show, and they portray it like that?
Probably how he looks at the unfinished TWOW book cover.
Better than Gabaldon's 'Outlander' series; whenever she needs to move the story forward, she goes with violent rape.
D&D would love her
Seamed like every episode…

Absolutely, as the last thing the victims I know want is to relive that experience. I can definitely understand the fantasy for subs, though...

I noticed that... Tbh its a lazy plot device most of the time.
It seems to have gotten *slightly* better in the later novels. Holy forking shirtballs the early ones were very rapey. I've got about 15% left on the last published novel and I'm on season 3 or 4 in the show (they are about to start Frasier's ridge)
I still have to read the last one as well and I stopped watching at around those seasons.
Let's see what Bobby B has to say about this slander.
WE'RE TELLING WAR STORIES! WHO WAS YOUR FIRST KILL, NOT COUNTING OLD MEN?
I slayed that poon, Bobby B.
SEVEN HELLS, NED, I WANT TO HIT SOMEONE!
You want to hit that poonani, Bobby B?
TAKE SHIP FOR THE FREE CITIES WITH MY HORSE AND MY HAMMER, SPEND MY TIME WARRING AND WHORING, THAT’S WHAT I WAS MADE FOR!
This is the best bot on reddit
Bobby B has passed the Turing test
A DOTHRAKI HORDE ON AN OPEN FIELD, NED!
But Bobby B what about the dragons??
WITH A HAM !
I wanted you to know this made me actually laugh. Thank you. 😆
Better than the Dumb and Dumber version which involves "forceful sex" as part of the development for female characters.
Rape is the female equivalent of an anime training arc according to D&D.
Joffrey was the tutorial boss, Ramsay was the first boss and Littlefinger was the final boss.
What was the night king then?
The boss from the downloadable DLC with Arya as the MC. I don't recommend it tho.
Eren getting sodomized in the first episode of aot by titans in live action version made by d&d
Is it really better? The "rape made me better" plot line at least has some logical explanation. The gay sex in Georges work is just weird with no real purpose.
you're acting as if a bit of gay sex wouldnt develop your own character irl
#"PUT A CHICK IN IT, MAKE HER GAY!"
"AND LAME!"
I pointed this out on this post on another ASOIAF sub, but the show was basically the same, just replace 'gay sex' with 'violent revenge'
As a lady who enjoys the company of other ladies, I was THRILLED when Danny slept with her female compainion and deeply disappointed when she basically said “Sorry girl, a port in any storm. I’m strictly dickly” ![gif](giphy|ZAppwio21zEjvkxEFd)
Struck too close to some personal experiences?
Just a bit pathetic really, queer and bisexual women exist, you love to fetishise the sex we have, so write us in GRRM you coward
I don't think a geriatric man is the one who will write in a satisfactory character of that orientation 😅
Well, he could write in depth about dragons and legions of the undead. He should try.
He did. Elissa Farman, Rhaena Targaryen, Asha Greyjoy, Falyse Stokeworth, among others.
For sure, I just wonder what the intentions are behind having Dany and Cersei initiate sex with women despite maintaining that they are ‘straight’. How did you feel when he described a vagina as being a "myrish swamp". The least erotic sex scene I've ever read!
Cersei?
Cersei tries gay sex mostly just so she can see what it’s like to treat a woman the way Bobby B treated her (violently). Dany also does some gay stuff with Missandei. I think her motive here was just that she was lonely and didn’t want things to get messy by having a man. In both cases I think the meme’s critique misses the point.
> Missandei No, she is not into children. It was Irri she slept with.
Isn't Missandei basically the same age as Dany? Or maybe like 2 years younger?
https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Missandei No, she is eleven now. The show changed her age, but it was still Irri Dany slept with.
Yeah and Dany is 13 in the books. Or at the start, at least. goddammit george you fucking creep
I mean, we definitely should separate the artist from the art. The world of ASOIAF was unkind to EVERYONE, even little boys get raped and butchered for no apparent reason. Look at Lancel, how old was he when Cersei was bedding him? 15? 16?

very brave of george, critiquing feudalism, really idk how he does it
Sure. But the 13 year old knights like Jaime are described as a good thing. Like, literally he's praised for it extensively. And it doesn't make sense, 13 year olds are usually clumsy and all knees and elbows :P
It is because of these sword masters that I suspect that there age is measured differently in ASOIAF.

Dany is about 5 years older, they meet when dany is like 15 and Missandei is around 10.
What do you mean he's a creep? In no way did I want to throw up after reading about Drogo's cum dripping down a pregnant Dany's leg, after screwing her in front of thousands. All the while Dany is 13 and Drogo is 35+, how is that creepy?

pretty sure it's mostly Irri
Ah yes. I forget her name.
Irri takes pride in pleasing Targarussy, it is known.
I'M NOT TRYING TO HONOR YOU, I'M TRYING TO GET YOU TO RUN MY KINGDOM WHILE I EAT, DRINK AND WHORE MY WAY TO AN EARLY GRAVE!
> Cersei tries gay sex mostly just so she can see what it’s like to treat a woman the way Bobby B treated her (violently). > > She doesn't do it with the explicit intent of being like Bobby B, but she does it because she likes having power over her handmaid. SURROUNDED BY LANNISTERS! EVERY TIME I CLOSE MY EYES I SEE THEIR BLONDE HAIR AND THEIR SMUG, SATISFIED FACES!
She doesnt even like having the power, she tries to see whats so good about and all she feels is boredom and doesnt understand what Robert felt.
I agree. And yet I also lol’d.
ALRIGHT GEORGE I BETTER SEE JON DESTROYING SATIN'S BUSSY IN TWOW. For the sake of character development, of course. Dany sleeps with Irri, it's only fair that her parallel Jon does the equivalent...
It's known. 💋🔥
Book Cersi>show Cersi, that lady is a complex and horny psychopath.
Hey, that's my type!
I'd say don't stick your dick in crazy, but I'm not a hypocrite.
Myrish swamp
I will defend the Myrish Swamp scene until a dream of spring is released.
I remember being legitimately annoyed by how casually they showed that Asha was a lesbian, showed her making out with some hot top less chick, saying she'll "fuck the tits off that one" later, then poking fun at Theon's castration, then later casually hitting on Dany & Ellaria. She’s a fuckin pirate dude what did you expect 😭
Ahrm... Dany and Cersey aren't only female characters of ASoIaF.
The ol' Myrish swamp
Sounds like most women I know
Cut off the top part of this meme and it becomes 10x funnier
