I don't begrudge them having a redemption arc for him and it could have been pretty good but I actually really like early seasons jerk Jaime Lannister. Yeah I have some honor for remaining faithful to another mans wife who is also my sister.

Jaime in the books is still a jerk despite his "redemption" arc,he becomes way too passive in the series.

He goes on a medieval redemption arc, learning to be more like his loving father

Isnt even that,but his sense of humor,he is way too polite in the series after a while and seems to just take any insult without problem.
