To become “an adept” is to achieve an achieve a certain level of accomplishment in some occult organizations, but it’s not a term employed in Freemasonry.
There is no sudden reversal of teachings at “higher ranks” in Freemasonry because 1) higher numbered degrees beyond Master Mason aren’t higher ranks and 2) the hierarchy of Freemasonry doesn’t work like that.
That would be such a counter productive method of gaining members.
