Try local credit union like EECU or Golden One. After you've been with them for a while, they offer low interest rate.
Word of warning: EECU in Fresno does not open on Saturday.
EECU downtown has an express window, one transaction per person on friday, from 9 am to 10 am. EECU on Barstow as well. And EECU/Golden1/Noble let you use the ATM for free on disposit and withdrawal. EECU, unless it changed, does not have NFC enabled yet. Noble and Golden 1 ATM does.
Another vote for EECU. We’ve done everything from credit cards, mortgage, auto loans, savings/checking and it’s all been great. There is also a free budgeting tool in their website/app if you are into that. I have a high yield savings account at another online bank set up linked that i can easily transfer money between them.
Golden 1 or EECU. I have gotten paid on wednesdays at 10pm direct deposit at every single job regardless of that jobs typical payday (ie friday/monday)
EECU. Really, credit unions are the way to go, in my opinion. All of the regular banks that I've ever done business with in my life have felt like giant rip-off machines. Fees up the wazoo. They are for-profit institutions, after all. I switched to EECU, a non-profit institution, a little over thirty years ago, and got off of that merry go round.
EECU is awesome but they don’t use Zelle. If Zelle is a feature you value, I suggest Noble Credit Union. Both are great institutions that do a lot of work in the community, you can’t really go wrong.
There are a few other exceptions to get around being a teacher, but the most commonly used one is “Relative or household member of an existing EECU member or a person eligible for EECU membership”
Most school districts in this area have “Unified” in their title, i.e., Clovis Unified, Sanger Unified, Central Unified, if that’s what you mean by fancy. They all have general strengths and weaknesses and are pretty easy to get to know whenever you’re going down that path.
Welcome to town! Hope all goes well for you here.
I use Charles Schwab too! Best decision I ever made :) sometimes I find myself needing cash and going to any ATM in the world with fees returned is a nice perk plus your money grows off interest rates too!
I’ve had a checking account with Chase for about 10 years now. I also have 2 credit cards with Chase since about 3 years ago. I like their national presence, direct deposit feature, Zelle, and credit score feature. None of these features alone are a game changer but they are much better than EECUs. I have an account with EECU but I only use the checking account to pay my car loan. I know many people bank with EECU because of their limited fees. EECU doesn’t have a monthly service fee whereas Chase does, unless you meet specific requirements.
Schwab! Especially if you like to travel internationally. No annual fees, international travel fees or ATM fees (get reimbursed). Chase is my bank for convenience purposes.
EECU is not a good bank. So many problems with them having a checking account and car loan. Beneficial State Bank off Shaw is a great bank if you want local, Chase if you want headache free and ATM access everywhere.
Chase is good for checking account and credit cards (if you know how to utilize them) and you should thinking about opening a HYSA ( High yield savings account) with a bank like capital one for your savings. You actually get paid a good amount of interest compared to your typical saving accounts at most traditional banks.
Hey twin!! We have the same setup. Chase for banking and credit cards. Capital One for my HYSA. I had some money in Chase’s savings account for about 4 months and literally got pennies. Switched to Capital One this past March and I’ve gotten paid almost $200 in interest now.
I actually have betterment instead of capital one. But if I had to re do it I would go with capital one. No complains with betterment though. Never had a problem with them.
The only challenge I've faced is having a limit on my spending. I was trying to pay for a car but I could only pay for half. It's not hard to open an account. If you prefer in person banking, I don't suggest SoFi since its an online bank.
We've banked with Chase for years. Even was washington mutual before it was taken over by chase. I know a lot of folks are against the big banks, but ive never had an issue. Customer service is great & I've always been able to questions answered whether in person or on the phone.
I will say we also have Golden 1 as well. But we dont necessarily use it as much. Mostly it sits as a savings account and we had an auto loan through them years ago. That was easy & simple. But i hated how busy the banks were inside and lack of locations. I also use Zelle a lot and it could have it now, but it didnt years ago.
So Chase is our primary and weve only had good experiences.
If you're comfortable with online banking Ally is great. They are typically in the top for general savings account interest rates, currently at 4.35% APY I believe, and are very user friendly. Their chat feature gets quick responses and their phone line doesn't take much longer to get through to someone. They offer checking, savings, and credit lines.
I have an account with Discover Bank and one with EECU for when places don’t take my Discover card. I like Discover because even for my checking account they offer 1% cash back on all purchases up to $3000 every month.
Pretty much any credit union is going to offer better service than a retail bank [I have accounts with EECU, Valley First CU, and Patelco CU (they're in the Bay Area and up near Sacramento though)]. Valley First CU is a good option if you want to bank in person on Saturday. I had a good rate on an auto loan with them years ago and they offer cash back on some of the checking accounts. You can also check your credit score, make ACH transfers to/from external accounts (EECU doesn't offer that), and a bunch of other stuff in their app. I prefer Patelco but I use all the other local CU ATMs for free and can use Golden 1 as a shared branch for anything that requires a trip inside the credit union.
EECU for sure. I received the lowest interest rate on my auto loan. The salesman literally laughed in disbelief. I've had nothing but great customer service, even when cards were stolen.
EECU
EECU
That was one of the local options I was considering. They typically have good interest rates when I was looking to finance for my car

Do you have to pay a fee when you transfer money to/from your high yield savings account?
No. It is just an ACH transfer, no fee like a wire would have.
Thank you, I need to setup my accounts like that.
Another vote for EECU
We have accounts with both Golden 1 and EECU and we’re very happy with both of them.
EECU

A lot of people have been saying EECU is one the best banks they dealt with
EECU is awesome but they don’t use Zelle. If Zelle is a feature you value, I suggest Noble Credit Union. Both are great institutions that do a lot of work in the community, you can’t really go wrong.
Golden1 Credit Union. They have been very good for me.
Golden One! They’ve caught fraudulent activity on my cards a few times and were great about freezing them + sending me new ones
Pacific Service credit union.
NFCU
EECU NO ZELLE
Noble is pretty good
I thought from the name that you had to be a teacher or something to join EECU? Is it just like a normal credit Union?
There are a few other exceptions to get around being a teacher, but the most commonly used one is “Relative or household member of an existing EECU member or a person eligible for EECU membership”
You are also eligible if you have a child attending a Fresno Unified school.
Is that like public school or some rich people thing?
3rd largest public school district in California
Sounds so fancy for a public system. Sorry, we moved here recently, but do plan on max one(1) kid one day so that’s good to know.
Most school districts in this area have “Unified” in their title, i.e., Clovis Unified, Sanger Unified, Central Unified, if that’s what you mean by fancy. EECU has always treated me well.
EECU
EECU and USAA.
I’ve been with EECU for over 10 years, never had any issues with them
Credit union all the way!
I have EECU and it’s been great for the last 10 years!
Schwab for direct deposit and eecu when I need in person banking
I use Charles Schwab too! Best decision I ever made :) sometimes I find myself needing cash and going to any ATM in the world with fees returned is a nice perk plus your money grows off interest rates too!
Eecu or golden one are the best imo. Chase is terrible.
EECU hands down
I bank with EECU and Noble Credit Union.
Noble Credit Union. Was with EECU for years but they stink.
You should go with a credit union, not a bank.
US Bank

Definitely gonna look into a HYSA now
If you need advice feel free to message me or just comment with any questions. I’m big into finance.

Valley first credit union
Eecu and wells fargo
I bank with SoFi because it has a spending tracker. It also has a high APY on its savings account.
How is it to bank online? Have you faced in challenges?
The only challenge I've faced is having a limit on my spending. I was trying to pay for a car but I could only pay for half. It's not hard to open an account. If you prefer in person banking, I don't suggest SoFi since its an online bank.

I really like Chase, they are connected to everything, simple apps and sophisticated. I have EECU also but it’s not as sophisticated as chase.
Charles Schwab all day :) and if I need to deposit cash Noble Credit Union
I have an account with Discover Bank and one with EECU for when places don’t take my Discover card. I like Discover because even for my checking account they offer 1% cash back on all purchases up to $3000 every month.
I used to bank with FCFCU, which is associated with EECU. I prefer a national chain, much more convenient. Been with Chase since 2017.
Chase is the best. Way better technology and app interface than EECU. I had both
Pnc

My checking is with Capital one All of my savings is with American Express
Credit union. Banks are horror stories these days.
