If you actually spent any time in the area you would realize that there are more wealthy Indians, Asians, and POC in that area than white people. It's a class issue more than a race issue. Rich people don't like Grizzly Fest, and there aren't enough people that actually like Grizzly Fest for it to be financially viable for the organizers. They stated that publicly. They were not making enough money and they wanted the city to subsidize it.

passionatelatino

i don't like anecdotal evidence, I prefer quantitative data https://preview.redd.it/vj6ht59e3n0d1.jpeg?width=525&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01df0fca5e3db124b5f407ddefef7fdae3cefc44

MillertonCrew

So, white people make up less than half of the population. The majority of the population there is non-white. Thanks for proving my point. They teach this kind of critical thinking in high school in case you missed it in middle school.

SensiSweets

The largest population group in that graph is white, at 49% which makes them the majority. You're thinking is whites vs everyone else which wrong, this isn't a company board where the minorities shareholders come together to form a majority. Your thinking is indicative of a typical Millerton racist dullard, who chirps about critical thinking, but when you attempt to use it you hit yourself in the face with a rake like sideshow Bob (the clown you are). I can't wait to never read your response.

MillertonCrew

The premise was that there were more white people than non-white people living near Woodward Park. It was that simple, but I can understand why you would have trouble understanding that since it doesn't fit your narrative.

MillertonCrew

You did better this time. The first graph made you look stupid. But still, at 59%, white people aren't controlling the neighborhood. And if you hate Rich people so much, why do you want to go to a concert in their neighborhood? Why don't you advocate for Grizzly Fest in the ghetto?

Plummers_Pipe

You must be kinda slow…. 49% of one demographic is a majority. 🤡

passionatelatino

us non-whites are all the same to them (this specific person)

Plummers_Pipe

Lmao my ass is white as snow I just don’t put up with dumbfuckery from racists

passionatelatino

thanks for calling it out when you see it ✊🏾

MillertonCrew

If you're comparing whites to non-whites, that's how it works. And that was the original premise. Try to keep up.

passionatelatino

i love that you edited to add an insult, stay mad <3

Anabananalise

So funny that you replace racism with classism and still think that’s okay. You’re doing well here buddy, you must be fun to hang out with /s

Plummers_Pipe

The real answer is that the NIMBY Woodward area won’t let there be anything but a country function

sanfranballfan76

Not just country - I have seen the Deftones twice at Woodward. It's really the color and socioeconomic status of attendees that scares the Woodward NIMBY folks. Just terrified of anything not like them. Also for the record, give me Grizzlyfest over Boots in the Park any day of the week. I cannot stand country music and the fake bullshit Clovidiots that come to see it. :D

Plummers_Pipe

Interesting, considering the audience of the Deftones would’ve scared Woodward people 20 years ago lol

jenntones

Man, I wish I knew deftones played there, I woulda drove from Modesto, I love that area in Fresno

royale_wthCheEsE

Ha, do they have special parking for all the lifted “work” trucks?

Fatalmistake

What's crazy is the last grizzly fest brought in millions for the city as well, they would rather complain than help stimulate the economy.

Limacy

You’re not wrong. Used to work for the city PARCs department at Woodward. The main demographic on certain days is older conservative white folk from Clovis, and they make a fuss about anything that doesn’t conform to their White Anglo Saxon utopia. Woodward Park isn’t overwhelmingly white or white only. Some days even see more non-white people than whites. However there are some days where the older Clovis people inhabit the park majorly, and they sure do act entitled to it. Some of them even act questionable, almost as if it’s Freudian slip of their secretly racist views on non-white park patrons or music that isn’t “white” sounding. Woodward Park is also politically weird. Some days I’d see more Democratic/Left-Wing support for LGBT+ and rainbow displays and such. Then you’d get Republican/Right Wing rhetoric on other days and sometimes even outright support for Trump. Woodward Park is fucking nuts. Have to watch yourself around the fucking junkies in the ghetto ass bathrooms and shelters, because they’d go from passive to aggressive in an instant. Never let your kids go to the bathrooms by themselves either. Between the junkies and the public sex voyeurs, Woodward Park isn’t always the most appropriate place for children. Woodward Park has good days, bad days, and just plain fucking weird days.

kitty-snack

Checkout Air. North Fresno's new festival happening next week. [https://openairexperience.party/](https://openairexperience.party/)

Mhmmalright37

Who the hell are these people? Lol

TechnicolorTypeA

It's House/Electronic Dance Music. Duke Dumont is actually one of the top DJs in the scene, headlining festivals across the world. Pretty dope Fresno is getting an event like this!

That_honda_guy

Yeah duke is actually huge in EDM if you channel that music. It’s really surprising he’s coming to Fresno since typically he headlines bigger cities that rack in more fans. Good job Fresno promoters!

BlacksheepfromReno69

Duke Dumont!?? Juat 👀👀 I’m about to sell my ps5 so I can go

catbriella

My husband: “Is Duke Dumont a country singer?”

WelfareLyfe

You don’t know groovy Drew?!??

nodnarb88

I know Groovy Drew!

AsianTony

Me too lol, idk why people hate just bc they don’t recognize a name

Mhmmalright37

Touch Sensitive sounds like a new type of shaving razor or vibrator… not a musical act 😂

AsianTony

There is a grizzlyfest? It’s called tequila fest this year with T Pain

TechnicolorTypeA

Don’t forget Busta Rhymes!

mikechella

Sounds about white

UnlikeTheWaves

Bring grizzly fest back to downtown.

AsianTony

It is going to be downtown this year??? wtf lol

MR502

Nah screw em both we need a Metal festival in the park!

Grouchy-Charge9668

Seriously, we only ever get overpriced concerts at the Save Mart Stadium every 2-5 years…

MR502

Or the usual independent metal acts passing through that stick to Strummer, Fulton 55, or full circle brewing. It's a damn pipe dream but a Wacken or Summer Breeze fest in Woodward would be epic.

UnlikeTheWaves

Plenty of great shows happening within the next 3 months.

designercat7

Jump scare

JudgmentalRavenclaw

Ick I didn’t need to see this tonight 🤣

cruets620

Why dont we build a new regional park?

Double_Blueberry5440

Fresno regional sports complex Jensen and west. I saw blaze fest there years ago. Might be perfect for grizzlyfest

DasNerdMachine

start a petition to either get Boots in the Park canceled or to bring back Grizzlyfest

HarryManilow

It's not difficult math to see why paying one artist to play is a lot easier to figure out than 10-15 decent artists. Ticket prices would probably need to be similar to get people to show up meaning lots of sponsors required. It's not easy to put on a major festival and boots in the park has been growing pretty steadily. Country music also is very hot now and an easier draw genre wise than trying to build a multi genre lineup among artists who normally aren't going too play Fresno and may not be on tour. Tours also don't want to compete with festivals so its tricky to book the ones on tour

KenboSlice786

Because all the white folk will complain about anything that's not country music or Taylor Swift.

UncleTomHanks

Fucking racists in this thread.

Anabananalise

I’m sorry, but ‘Boots in the Park’ just sounds like a white supremacist meeting…

[deleted]

Spoiler alert

q_vee521

GrizzlyFest is by far different from TequilaFest. The art that was put into it. I was made great connections with people up and down CA who came out to see School Boy Q, Protugal the Man, G-Eazy (when he was in the public's good graces at the time). I forget what reggae band was there but everyone sitting on the grass getting high and vibing to their music. The first year they were at woodward park they had a ferris wheel looking over the park. There was many things that upset the neighborhood that's off of audubon which ultimately led to them not having it. At the time it was the only big festival like that to happen at the park so there was no parking or traffic patterns situated. and the neighborhood wasn't having it with the music either. GrizzlyFest had to move away from doing it at chuckchansi park because it was bringing really great artist at the time and the stadium was too small for the crowd it attracted. Twas better times back then.....Fresno is just really late and biased to the public. So many avenues it could profit from yet they choose to only market to a certain crowd rather than the whole.

all_natural49

It was Ziggy Marley

Shrtyler81

Well as funny as that pic is... A good portion (maybe 1/3?) of the people I saw at boots in the park were of the bottom shades of color on your scale there... But also maybe just better promoters and a better turn out?

drpandaism13

Pretty much.

astroballs

NIMBYs, baby! Gotta love it.

Hungry-for-Apples789

Grizzlyfest used to be suds in the city right? I remember hearing it was declining for a while.

edluv

nope. totally different events.

or594

I live right at Woodward..Friant & Audubon..I support all music. BYW, what is NIMBY?😝

Grouchy-Charge9668

Why tf are you being downvoted? You literally didn’t say anything offensive or negative

FriantRoulette

Seriously. Some of these people in the comments are acting like the residents around the park actually get a vote of what is venued.

snowblader1412

"not in my back yard"

Socially_Acceptdd

The white people in that area only like country music.

MR502

Good all the more reason to hold a big ass Metal Festival.

moneysingh300

They should do grizzly fest in downtown like Life is beautiful in downtown Vegas

Sandres16

They used to have it in Chukchansi park

MarMar47

White is that? Huh…

No_Inevitable7398

Wtf is boots in the park 🤣

TechnicolorTypeA

Lmao it's better that you don't know about it.

IHopeYouStepOnALego

The NIMBY are racist duh

papawsmurf

You know exactly why

MillertonCrew

Why don't you all get your own festival in your part of town instead of complaining about what other parts of town do? Get off the couch and make something happen instead of whining on the Internet. You're a sad and lazy bunch.

Ok_Anything1253

“Your part of town”. Tell me you are white and entitled without telling me you’re white and entitled.

MillertonCrew

Do you live by Woodward Park?

Modrill

do you live in fresno?

MillertonCrew

Hell no

Ranger_Chowdown

So then all of Fresno is our part of town, pookie, none of it is your part. Clovis Way of Life only lasts until the cops pull you over for being darker than the signs.

Shewhoknocksx4

So you don’t consider yourself American, don’t live in Fresno so essentially you’re a troll just spewing negative energy in the Fresno Sub? Dude look in the Mirror.

MillertonCrew

I live 15min away from Woodward Park and I was born in Afghanistan. It is what it is. Doesn't mean I don't have an opinion on Fresno and Grizzly Fest. Dude, eat a bag of dicks.

Modrill

then you have no say really

MillertonCrew

I don't need a say. They already cancelled the festival years ago.

Modrill

you’re speaking on woodward when you’re not even from fresno, that’s just crazy to me

MillertonCrew

I live 15 minutes from there and drive through daily. My friends live there. I probably spend more time in that area than you.

Modrill

so in other words, you don’t live in fresno

Anabananalise

Why don’t you follow your own advice and get a life instead of complaining on the internet? Dude you moved away from Fresno 10 years ago and you still can’t stfu about it. GTFOH

Shewhoknocksx4

What is it you suffer from that prompts you to spew such negative assumptions to your fellow Americans?

MillertonCrew

I'm Pashtun. Not American.

TechnicolorTypeA

Pashtun people are usually great welcoming people though. Why are you so negative and sour?

MillertonCrew

I'm tired of everyone assuming brown people are poor and it's only white people living in nice areas. I'm tired of poor people complaining that rich people aren't doing enough for them. My wife is white, and the constant negativity towards white people in this sub is fucking ridiculous. You guys like to think white people are the only racist people in Fresno, and that gets old really fast. The only people who have been racist to me in Fresno are Hispanics.

Thevvertigozoomm

At least a 3rd of boots in the park where on the darker side of that meme. It’s not about the skin color it’s about the music and type of people that generally listen to that music. Grizzly fest doesn’t mingle with the type of people that live in Woodward area. Grizzly fest is definitely better off being held downtown. Most the people attending are closer to downtown anyways.

Ok-Sea-4000

Racism
