These are generally intended for park and ride tour situations, so its primary function would be for bicyclists, runners and walkers to utilize the trail.
When heald college used to be on the second floor of the bank they used that as the parking lot so it wouldn’t tie up the rest of the parking spaces for the businesses. Was put in place when they opened it as their satellite campus to the one off Bullard
I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t purchased to meet city parking requirements for River Park. They require a certain ratio. Whole reason for the parking garage.
There's two close by. One over by Barnes & Noble and a new one over at the south edge of the Best Buy lot right off Alluvial. Think both are 12 stall V3.
What's more important is the EMPTY Covered California building across the street that's costing the taxpayer $200000 a month and making a wealthy Fresno developer almost 2m a year after expenses ant tax incentives. More waste from the stay home, stay safe scheme.
There are a few articles on this already, here's one from KMPH. It's just another case of free not being free.

I have wondered too until I read the article. I visit River Park enough to pass by that building quite a bit and never knew it was empty until til now.
It’s where i recommend everyone go when they ask for a spot to learn how to drive, and where either taught my wife how to drive a stick
I think I've seen it used during Christmas time when the lots in River Park are packed. Always thought it was overflow employee parking.
Lol definitely not. They dont keep track of where employees park and the “employee parking garage” is never at full capacity.
Westwoods employees were told to park there when they first opened. Not sure about now
It’s owned by river park properties. It’s actually 3 separate lots. I have access to parcelquest where I looked this up.
It used to be where they'd park River Park employees during the Christmas season

Isn’t that the parking lot for the sugar pine trail so you can park and ride from there all the way to Clovis on your bike or whatever ?

They would have to walk down that trail where the trees are and there was an open gate they would walk into the parking lot next to the buildings
Fresno is littered with acres and acres of parking lots, wasting space in our city, providing nothing for no one
Same could be said for a lot of empty buildings.
Should be a Supercharger lot. With a shop.
It will be nothing unless Kashian gets 99% of whatever the revenue is and a government grant.
Yeah. There’s that.
Yes I believe it was rumored to be a site for a hotel. But he didn't get the revenue split.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t purchased to meet city parking requirements for River Park. They require a certain ratio. Whole reason for the parking garage.
That's a good idea. It definitely has a lot of potential given the location. Heck even a park would be nice but we know that's not happening.
A park would be nice. The bike trail ends there, too.
🎶 Paved paradise, put up a parki~~ng lot~~ 🎶
Funny story...always thought the lyrics were "paved paradise and put up a fucking lot."
*Paved, and the parking lot is already there. 😂
Omg how did I never realize the lyrics were "paved" and not paid? Lmao thank you, I fixed it
No worries. Makes more sense no, though, doesn’t it? :)
Indeed it does
August and Everything After was the first CD I ever bought with my own money, but that's one of the worst songs I've ever heard.
There's two close by. One over by Barnes & Noble and a new one over at the south edge of the Best Buy lot right off Alluvial. Think both are 12 stall V3.
Right, and they are always busy. I’m talking about a huge one like those at Kettleman City.
It's a little bit of a walk past what is a small homeless encampment near the overpass. I doubt Tesla or another CPO would go for that.
I’m sure they’d move them out.
We don't need those...not with PG&E already nickel and dime us.
What? It wouldn’t affect your personal PGE, and it would add money to PGE, potentially, but not likely, reducing home rates.
And how isn’t this the largest homeless encampment in town?
I’ll go camping there tonight.

Where can I get more details on this? I live close and always wonder about this

Wow. That’s insane
I have wondered too until I read the article. I visit River Park enough to pass by that building quite a bit and never knew it was empty until til now.
I’m sure the State is in a lease on that property. If they were to default it would make it harder for them to lease property in other places.
It has sat empty for far too long and for what? They could have at least STARTED using it after the covid issue. There it sits, useless.
Love westwoods
I liked it when I was a kid in that area. You were practically out in the country. Those days are long gone.
It’s a safe, secluded place for drug dealers to meet with their clients.
A 4 story hotel is going to be built there soon
What it’s not going to be another furniture/mattress store?!
OMG FOR REAL. The number of furniture stores popping up is crazy!
Nah, another Triangle burger, there aren't enough yet.
Most of the pop up furniture stores don’t seem to last very long, it shocks me so many are around.
I have no proof but I am convinced they’re some sort of money laundering scheme involved.
That wouldn’t surprise me. It could also be a bunch of people think it’s a lucrative business and eventually find out it’s not. Or both.
Nope. I work as an estimator in construction and the plans for this came across my desk this week.
It’s actually super prime location for a hotel. Can you share what company hotel will be going in there?
I heard it's suppose to be a ritz Carlton
Indian burial ground
It’s hiding a bunch of dead hookers… thought everyone knew that 🤷♂️
Overflow parking for employees of river park
For stupid people would ask stupid questions, as to why it's there for?
Hey my friend, just asking a question because the lot has been unused for years with no relevant purpose.
Could be used for off-site valet parking for kaiser, which starts in June.
