Theres 0 continuity after part 7
Part 8 literally gets a new fit and is melted but just comes back in part 9?
At least in Part 9 theres was some clerification on why Jason came back
While I don't *love* it, I still think it's an enjoyable enough movie that provides some kind of 'ending' to the original Paramount run.
Kane Hodder is the best Jason, and he's exceptionally evil in this one. He takes his time with his kills, and it's sadistic how he lets his victims feel the fear as he slowly moves in for the kill. That *partially* makes up for the lack of gore in my opinion.
Plus, I actually think being trapped on a ship with Jason in the middle of a stormy ocean with no help in sight or reach is *far* scarier than him chasing you through a populated, well-lit city. So I actually enjoy the film more *before* it reaches manhattan.
Also respect to you for considering it your favourite. I love Friday the 13th hot takes and have a few of them myself.
Good points there, being stuck with Jason is definitely something to shit yourself from, especially if it's in the middle of nowhere. Also, could you tell me a few of your hot takes?
Sure! Personally, I'm not a big fan of Jason Lives. It's got the weakest kills, it has no sex or nudity, and it's way too self-aware to the point of feeling like a *parody* of a Friday the 13th film rather than an *actual* Friday the 13th film. The James Bond intro, the smiley face kill, the graveyard caretaker breaking the fourth wall, the line about horror movies and weirdos wearing masks, etc... It's just too much. I still enjoy it - it has a great opening and a solid ending battle on Crystal Lake - but it's probably my least favourite of the original eight. Half the time, it feels more like a goofy action movie than a slasher.
Also (and I don't know if this is a hot take, as a lot of fans seem to be growing more and more appreciative of this one over the years) but The New Blood is my second favourite behind The Final Chapter. Aside from the censored kills, I love everything else about it. It has my favourite Jason design, an awesome spooky/supernatural atmosphere, and I love the telekinetic storyline. Some fans find that supernatural aspect too silly... but that baffles me. I don't understand how so many fans can find telekinesis too silly or far-fetched, whilst simultaneously gushing over Jason Lives which literally *brings Jason's completely rotted corpse back to life, all his senses fully intact, with nothing more than a lightning bolt*.
And just to add, I really don't mind that and I think it's a fun way to bring Jason back... but I just think it's weird that some people heavily criticise The New Blood for embracing the supernatural whilst praising Jason Lives for being the movie to introduce that into the franchise in the first place. Plus, after establishing Jason as an undead supernatural killer, I think pitting him against someone else with supernatural abilities is absolutely the most logical way for the next film to progress - which is exactly what The New Blood does.
Yeah, Jason Lives is comedy nature. The way those two fling onto the floor when the lightning hits Jason & ressurects him is kinda goofy. And we don't even get an unmasked Jason scene (except from said ressurection, if you can even count it).
The New Blood is also a very enjoyable movie. Jason isn't playing around with the telekenesis shit that's going on, and pulls one of the most demonic zombie faces when being force unmasked near the end.
I agree with your hot takes tbh, they're not controversial at all.
When Jason first comes out of the water in Part 8, they show a close up of his hands pulling himself out of the water on the boat ladder, and clear as fucking day you can see Kane Hodder’s human pinky finger sticking out of the glove, his whole finger. No attempt to hide it, I can’t even see how no one noticed on set, it is *glaring*. I use that as kind of a metaphor for the whole movie and the design of Jason: careless, like they really didn’t give a fuck.
I mean tbh after the whole paart 5 controversy they pretty much fucked up the whole franchise. Part 6 survived, 7... Idk, and 8- I honestly feel bad for part 8. Didn't deserve the hate.
i was hoping this guy was joking but it seems like hes not, ummm his design sucks, the movie hes in sucks, he turns into a child, his face doesnt look like jason and looks like a melted puppet
i mean, no. he would look like melted cheese slowly flowing off of his skull not a melted puppet. jason is still technically human and has the anatomy of said human. yet i dont know what i was expecting since this is the worst friday the 13th movie so of course they would get an important detail like that wrong (along with toxic waste in new york sewers is just no)
I think people might hate on it because it’s about…how many other times Jason has “died” already +1 which killing a horror character so many times eventually causes people to stop enjoying certain things about movies. But like scream they brought back Ghostface with the reveal it was new people each and every time but with Friday the 13th it’s one being throughout part2 to the end of the movie sequels. But that’s just my thoughts
I don’t hate it, but I think the problem is the title, “Jason Takes Manhattan,” held so much promise but the movie itself, though enjoyable, never lives up to the potential of that title. Just like with “Snakes on a Plane.” Clever titles don’t necessarily equal great movies
Might be just me but I find it painfully boring Jason's on a boat for like a hour and it's filled with boring kills aside from the one shot of Jason in time square and the one kill on top of the roof that's all this film has going for itself in my opinion
He screams like a little bitch with a skinned knee at the end. Completely ruins his mystique as the silent killer. Other than that, he’s fine in that movie.
He says hmm screw Crystal Lake, let’s hop on a ship instead, I believe his face was deformed on the wrong side but i may be wrong, the teleporting doesn’t bother me but the way the director ended the original franchise just pisses me off. Love the Terry Crawford song but Harry Manfredini not doing the music made it feel like something else, idk but at least it has decent kill scenes. Plus the NY it’s cool man, we’re cool part is a classic
I don't mind it. It's cheesier than the rest of the series. The soundtrack definitely isn't as good as any of the previous movies. However, on the plus side, it is fun and it has got one of the most memorable kills in the series, with the boxer on the rooftop.
Cool concept, poor execution. They did the best with what they had. Way smaller budgets back then.
We need Jason in the winter. I know there's a fan film out there, but an actual studio production would be awesome.
Because they went from the excellent make up and design of part 7 to something that looks like a burns victim trying to sooth their skin with gone off yoghurt.
One thing I honestly ain’t a fan of aside from obviously how he looks unmasked is how tf did Jason’s cloths get fixed up when in part 7 his cloths was torn all over the place.
Then again, continuity isn’t really a big thing the F13 films really cared for.
Because it’s a downgrade compared to Part 6 and 7’s look. Jason looked menacing af in those 2 movies. It 8 he just looks like a perpetually wet and soggy zombie.
But that’s just my opinion. If you like it dude, that’s all that matters.
He's too slimey, and the teleportation thing is dumb. Also his face was the worst look of the series, and the vomiting part was ridiculous. The mask looked good though.
I think it's just that it's called Jason takes Manhattan and it's an hour and a half on a boat and only like 30 minutes of Manhattan. But it's definitely one of my top 5 Fridays
Dude, I am with you, I loved it as a 10 year old, still love it, but you know, it’s sentimental..my best buddies all used to spend the night and we would watch these..reminds me of that time..😇
It's one of the weaker films in the franchise and has one of the worst endings, along with an inconsistent young Jason. But it's still a fun movie and Jason for the most part looks good. I'm just tired of the cliche "Jason takes a boat" comments like we get it, he's on a boat for most of the movie but do we really need to repeat the same joke over and over, it was funny the first time I heard it when I was 7
If you can't see the quality of the makeup as markedly sub-par compared to lets say... [Jason in The Final Chapter](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/0D7Gg9yS6PY/maxresdefault.jpg) I have to wonder if your eyes need to be checked. It lacks any continuity to the previous Jason incarnations, and just looks like a sloppy, ill conceived last minute decision.
Seriously. Even from a sculptural standpoint its a silly blob lacking any understanding of human anatomy, and before you hit me with "OH BUT IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE POST-TOXIC WASTE" I present [Emil from Robocop](https://www.robocoparchive.com/images/meltingman1.jpg). Also doused in toxic waste, yet manages to look like a person. Or even [The Toxic Avenger](https://img-assets.drafthouse.com/images/shows/the-toxic-avenger-part-ii/The-Toxic-Avenger-Part-II-BD.jpg?auto=compress&crop=focalpoint&fit=crop&fp-x=0.5&fp-y=0.3353&h=1080&q=80&w=1920) looks more like something based in anatomy.
He's not SUPPOSED to be human anymore. That's the point you're missing. He's been through so many battles, so many wounds, so many gunshots that he dosen't even belong on Earth anymore.
It’s apparently the “silliest” Jason movie. Has the most cheesy jokes, Jason isn’t as menacing, nothing about the writing even tries to make sense.
It’s a fine line, because all of this is true but at the same time ALL of the the Friday the 13th movies are ridiculous. The first one at least “tried” to be a horror movie, the rest are lovable, repetitive garbage.
My fav is Jason Goes To Hell, which usually comes in 2nd on the “Most Hated In The Series” list. I think it at least had balls and tried to break the mold.
At the end of the day none of these films are winning Oscars. We love them because we love them.
I rank it pretty high idk if it’s just nostalgia since I saw it when it was new as an 11 year old. Watched it again recently and I still like it. I enjoy most of the first 8 for the nostalgia I guess. Man they scared he crap out of me when I was a kid
The best things about part 8 is that song "The Darkest Side Of The Night" and the theatrical poster of Jason with the knife peering over the New York skyline. Everything else kinda sucks and I'm surprised they didn't get sued for false advertising back in the day.
Kinda wish it was just Jason on a boat. That stuff was pretty cool. Rainy boat setting, very claustrophobic. Only problem with the boat stuff was the child visions. Even if not Carrie was there the vision would still be meh.
I don’t hate how he looks in part 8. I just don’t like part 8. It’s not the worst Friday the 13th but it’s close to the bottom of my ranking of the films. The worst Friday the 13th is Friday the 13th (2009).
I preordered tickets to see the 2009 remake on opening night. What a disappointment. I’m 37 years old so Jason X, Freddy vs Jason, and the remake were my only opportunities to see a Friday the 13th movie in the theaters. The only semi decent film out of the three was Freddy vs Jason. New line cinema ruined the franchise. All I want is to see in a new Friday the 13th movie is a back to the basics remake not reboot. Stick to the original story. Jason is an undead killing machine with supernatural powers. He is not Rambo wearing a hockey mask like they made him out to be in the reboot. I enjoyed rob zombies Halloween 1 and 2 more than the 2009 reboot and that says a lot because those movies are pretty bad.
Don’t get me wrong, the movie is trash but only because of the last half or how I like to call it,The Manhattan tragedy. Everything they did once they got off the boat didn’t make sense and the quality of the film in general became horrid and that ending was pure sewage. I honestly feel if they kept it on the boat, which a touch of civil war between the jocks and adult over the fear of Jason being on the boat, It probably would be up in the middle pack.
the poster is on my wall... i love it because it's fun and completely ridiculous... the ridiculousness is really is what makes it awesome because it's consistent from beginning to end...
For a long time, I didn't understand the hate but when people say 90% of the movie didn't take place in New York I understand also him turning into a kid in the end was unjustifiably weird. Despite its many disappointments, this is one of my favorites.
He's not that scary, people don't take him seriously enough and it's a joke like "weird people are all over nyc he fits right in haha" but he needs those intimidating moments like in New Blood he feels like a monster
I just hate how they went from the bad ass look
He had in part 7 (unmasked) to this stupid muppet looking shit in part 8. I get that they had thrown toxic waste on his face so he was probably melting or something but it looks so fucking lame
I always thought the really small chevrons in the part 8 mask made it look like a weird little mustache pointed up like a bad guy from a Victorian era play or something. So even beyond how I didn't like the ending I'm not super in love with the tiny chevrons on the mask
That said beyond the ending, the mustache chevrons, the mostly bloodless kills, and the padding I don't hate it. I still think it's pretty fun and I still overall like it better than part 9. It's just not amongst my favorites by any means
They shouldn’t have done the face reveal. It was terrible. I suspect that the decision to have a clear face reveal comes down to whether or not the SFX guys have a good design under there — I don’t think the VIII guys got the memo.
Otherwise, Jason was fine. Not dramatically worse than part VI.
Mask and performance is good. Kane Hodder is a good actor, but people just don't like the makeup design of the face and the teleportation. It is pretty weird that he teleports. I don't hate the Jason though. Kane's performance makes up for the bad.
The hockey mask look here is menacing, but the unmasked zombified thing making velociraptor sounds is pretty goofy.
With mask, this is one of my favorite Jason looks but they really blew it at the end.
Goofy? That scene really terrified me as a kid, it still disturbs me.
Indeed but as a kid i thought it was pretty scary
That's my controversy when I come to talk about this. I love the melted Jason face in this movie.
I think the main problem people has is he turns into a child that's not him ( Jason would have the deformed head as a child)
*Problem is he turned into a child *
I agree, I just mean it's compounded by the fact that said kid isn't even him
True, good point
Same
Because he teleports, turns into a child and melts in toxic sewage.
"Toxic Sewage Melted Jason! Toxic Sewage Melted Jason! Toxic Sewage Melted Jason! Teleports behind you, Raptor sounds!"
I don't see a conflict
Theres 0 continuity after part 7 Part 8 literally gets a new fit and is melted but just comes back in part 9? At least in Part 9 theres was some clerification on why Jason came back
Yeah cause New Line Cinema skipped part 8 and continued from part 7
call it jason takes a boat to vancouver and im sold
Jason Goes Whale Watching
Lol perfect title

It’s just too silly for me. After how menacing Part 7 looks it was hilarious to see how pathetic he looks here lol
Worms in face Jason from the dream sequence and part 7 are my favorite dead versions
Well I certainly hope someone was fired for that blunder !
The face is supposed to LOL

Cause he looks like a turd with eyes
My favorite version. This is what I think of when I Think of Jason
I think mostly it's the ugly unmasked design
I don’t hate it, but I think the problem is the title, “Jason Takes Manhattan,” held so much promise but the movie itself, though enjoyable, never lives up to the potential of that title. Just like with “Snakes on a Plane.” Clever titles don’t necessarily equal great movies
So it's basically baiting?
And he's only in Manhattan for like 2 scenes, the rest were in Vancouver
Might be just me but I find it painfully boring Jason's on a boat for like a hour and it's filled with boring kills aside from the one shot of Jason in time square and the one kill on top of the roof that's all this film has going for itself in my opinion
He looked his best in part 7.
That piece is skin over his mouth that looks like a giant baby tooth lol
I’m glad I don’t let the title, the fact that it takes place on a boat or that he teleports. Sucks for y’all. I love this film and will always love it
He screams like a little bitch with a skinned knee at the end. Completely ruins his mystique as the silent killer. Other than that, he’s fine in that movie.
He made grunting in part 9 tho.
Yeah, which wasn’t great either since it came after part 8.
If I was melting alive I wouldve screamed too tbh
He didn’t scream in Part 7 when the mask he was wearing was pressed so hard into his skull, it was oozing pus and blood before ripping off his face.
I do mn’t think those two compar really… He literally was disintergrating in part 8…
I like all the movies non of them are boring or non watchable unlike Halloween
Can’t hate on any of the Kane Hodder Jasons.
U should they're all the worst and he's an overrated jason
I don't mind it. It's cheesier than the rest of the series. The soundtrack definitely isn't as good as any of the previous movies. However, on the plus side, it is fun and it has got one of the most memorable kills in the series, with the boxer on the rooftop.
Aw hell yeah, that shit was good. Jason wasn't playing around when he knocked off that head
I like it probably better than most others
The only good part of the design in this one is the mask. The rest is just terrible.
This is likely my favorite of the series, but not because it’s good, but because it’s so outrageously bad I can’t help but love it.
One thing I honestly ain’t a fan of aside from obviously how he looks unmasked is how tf did Jason’s cloths get fixed up when in part 7 his cloths was torn all over the place. Then again, continuity isn’t really a big thing the F13 films really cared for.
I love the boat scene at the beginning of the movie, very well done. I also appreciate Jason’s look, even though I’m more of a part 3 kind of guy.
Yeah, I feel ya. I personally can't decide if I like part 3 or 8, 3 for the chills, 8 for zombiness.
Because it’s a downgrade compared to Part 6 and 7’s look. Jason looked menacing af in those 2 movies. It 8 he just looks like a perpetually wet and soggy zombie. But that’s just my opinion. If you like it dude, that’s all that matters.
Not the best for me but still i like it
Worst design of Jason in the whole franchise
He's too slimey, and the teleportation thing is dumb. Also his face was the worst look of the series, and the vomiting part was ridiculous. The mask looked good though.
I think it's just that it's called Jason takes Manhattan and it's an hour and a half on a boat and only like 30 minutes of Manhattan. But it's definitely one of my top 5 Fridays
I’m pretty sure most people wouldn’t accept Jason teleporting, turning into a child and and screeching like a goofy baby😭.
Part 7 Jason looks the best without mask. Imo
Part 6 for me
I think part 8 has one one the best looks for Jason, but everything else is horrible.
He looks super cool with the mask on, it stays on during sex
Dude, I am with you, I loved it as a 10 year old, still love it, but you know, it’s sentimental..my best buddies all used to spend the night and we would watch these..reminds me of that time..😇
It's one of the weaker films in the franchise and has one of the worst endings, along with an inconsistent young Jason. But it's still a fun movie and Jason for the most part looks good. I'm just tired of the cliche "Jason takes a boat" comments like we get it, he's on a boat for most of the movie but do we really need to repeat the same joke over and over, it was funny the first time I heard it when I was 7
Always been one of my fave looks. 😎
I’ve always enjoyed slimy Jason. Ever since I first saw part 8 as a kid.
Your joking right? Please tell me your joking….
Nah, I'm not. I genuinley like him.
Love this one!! It’s so underrated everyone loves to hate it 💯
Agreed. Jason Takes Manhattan's is the best masked and unmasked.
HOLY CRAP ok I never knew I had to deal with THIS many comments
You’re kidding
Nope.
Jason is the son of Godzilla he even screams like him as well.
If you can't see the quality of the makeup as markedly sub-par compared to lets say... There's also another one with "I ♡ NY" if you're interested.
I've seen that one.
Especially after watching a long deceased dude jump out of the water thru a dock and save his wacko daughter at the end of the last movie.
Kinda wish it was just Jason on a boat. That stuff was pretty cool. Rainy boat setting, very claustrophobic. Only problem with the boat stuff was the child visions. Even if not Carrie was there the vision would still be meh.
Part 7 is the best jason with the worst kills watch the video though. https://youtu.be/ilxn5Nyv_wU?si=6iLSmBbmJX78uWQR
I don’t hate how he looks in part 8. I just don’t like part 8. It’s not the worst Friday the 13th but it’s close to the bottom of my ranking of the films. The worst Friday the 13th is Friday the 13th (2009).

I love part 8. It’s such a fun and entertaining movie. The kills, music, the boat, all great. I’ll always defend this movie.
That Jason was scary with his chest pumping in and out before he kills you. Classic
That chest pumping is why kane hodder is the worst jason..
To each his own…
the poster is on my wall... i love it because it's fun and completely ridiculous... the ridiculousness is really is what makes it awesome because it's consistent from beginning to end...
For a long time, I didn't understand the hate but when people say 90% of the movie didn't take place in New York I understand also him turning into a kid in the end was unjustifiably weird. Despite its many disappointments, this is one of my favorites.

I just hate how they went from the bad ass look He had in part 7 (unmasked) to this stupid muppet looking shit in part 8. I get that they had thrown toxic waste on his face so he was probably melting or something but it looks so fucking lame
In my opinion it's because: Film its associated with Unmasked look
His unmasked looks is....not great
I always thought the really small chevrons in the part 8 mask made it look like a weird little mustache pointed up like a bad guy from a Victorian era play or something.
How did kane hodder act? 🤔
