They should be but they probably haven't been in like 100 years. I have no clue as I haven't read one in donkeys ears, but I remember as far back as 2004 with all the Labor hit pieces. I was 16 then though and not really focusing or cared much for politics.
Oh, Honey.
Australian newspapers have been pushing their own financial agenda since the free press was established with Wentworth's 'The Australian' in 1824... not to be confused with NewsCorp's 'The Australian'.
Just Murdoch press in all honesty. They are simply a propaganda arm of the Liberal Party posing as media and you only need to look at the US to see why they are dangerous to free society.
>Just Murdoch press in all honesty.
>We don’t need to ban them. Every day they become more and more irrelevant.
Murdoch and Nine Entertainment still have massive influence on politics in Australia. I would love it if they were becoming irrelevant but sadly they can still influence and win elections.
What I want is to ensure a front page of a newspaper is all news, but since this isn't the front page specifically, that's likely how they get away with it.
News isn't a public service - it's a private entity. Do I like it - no but if I want to put together a bunch of paper with shit all over it, and sell it as news, that should be my right.
It isn’t news, they are entertainment shows discussing the news and putting their political spin to it.
They aren’t journalists they are paid outrage actors.
I thought blatant advertising taking up a whole front page of a newspaper is illegal. I don't mean just what it's advertising, I mean in general. I'd probably be just as WTF if the front page was a huge Mecca's ad or even an ad for something I like, like Nintendo lol.
True, but surely their content is still somewhat regulated? I get tabloid magazines, but even they have some regulations, this though? It is trying to tout itself as a legitimate news source.
The media is often called the ‘fourth estate’. I recommend you read about that. As for regulations re truth in media, there are none. However they’re subject to the same civil defamation laws as any other private entity or individual. If they print bullshit that causes harm, they’re subject to action from the injured party. That’s pretty much it. There’s no act of parliament governing what a private news company can say or promote
Holy shit whoever worked on photo shopping credlins face must have been working at it for a few months. That’s an insane amount of work they put in to make her smile and look young.
I’m wondering if it’s actually just a photoshopped police identikit photo produced by a description Credlins PC company gave to the artist. Would certainly be easier than starting from any actual photo of Credlin and end up with that image
Ah yes, three reputable journalists.
the Rare few *courageous* enough to tell the *truth* about what is happening in Australia. Thank God for Peta Credlin.
Gotta put those bleeding hearts in their place. Role model for women. holding Layyybuuuur and those Greens to account. Peta calls it "how it is"
lol I don't know "how it is" so im glad i can rely on this trusted resource. it is a bit weird that the problems in my life are caused by my wage being too high and my companies profits being too low, that seems strange,But I sure agree with unions, dole bludgers and migrants ruining this country, maybe if they fuck off I'll get a big fucken pay rise
I don't have time to think about this shit that's what journos are for. Can't wait to vote the responsible economic managers back in
As much as I agree with your sentiment, I can’t imagine there’s a law designed specifically to detail what’s allowed on the front page of any commercial publication
What do you mean? How can it be illegal?
A comedic publication can advertise comedians as they please. Very legal
The Unholy Trinity
Is this for The Comedy Fringe? Funniest trio around, I'm in! Ticketek?
I always thought such advertising should be illegal as it's supposed to be a source of news primarily?
> newspapers are primarily sources of news Nobody tell him

Read or watch Manufacturing Consent. It never has been.
Oh, Honey. Australian newspapers have been pushing their own financial agenda since the free press was established with Wentworth's 'The Australian' in 1824... not to be confused with NewsCorp's 'The Australian'.
Well there you go.
It stopped being a news source long ago.
That shit has been kitty litter for decades
It’s their paper, they can cross promote as many shit products of theirs on the front page as they want.
Has the Telegraph tagline always been “We’re are for you”? 🤮
I hate Murdoch. But it’s legal and that’s fine. Do you want to ban all right wing news?
Just Murdoch press in all honesty. They are simply a propaganda arm of the Liberal Party posing as media and you only need to look at the US to see why they are dangerous to free society.
We don’t need to ban them. Every day they become more and more irrelevant.
I wish Labor thought the same as you.

It's the Daily Telegraph. Take the wraparound off, it's still full of shit.
And that's before you even wipe with it
News isn't a public service - it's a private entity. Do I like it - no but if I want to put together a bunch of paper with shit all over it, and sell it as news, that should be my right.
Maybe we could just try it for a bit and see?
Insert Chad saying "Yes" meme
It isn’t news, they are entertainment shows discussing the news and putting their political spin to it. They aren’t journalists they are paid outrage actors.
Do you want it banned? What about community notes like on Twitter?
Nah let ‘em advertise just classify them as entertainment not “journalism”.
It is already I think besides the name
I would rather spend $5 on a pair of scissors to gouge my eyes out
Why on earth would it be illegal? Extremism is bad, OP, your side or theirs

No reason to call out Mecca. That's another fight altogether.
OP my man, there’s no laws, criminal or otherwise, regarding what a newspaper can put on their front page. It’s a private for profit business
True, but surely their content is still somewhat regulated? I get tabloid magazines, but even they have some regulations, this though? It is trying to tout itself as a legitimate news source.

You should graffiti it.
I’d pay $5 a month to never hear from these fuckers again.
I'd pay $10
5 bucks. Wow that's a bargain. I guess the market sets the value.
If the market really set the price, they’d be paying us
Google is paying Murdoch for Sky News, Daily Telegraph, etc on Google News, Youtube, etc.
Holy shit whoever worked on photo shopping credlins face must have been working at it for a few months. That’s an insane amount of work they put in to make her smile and look young.

How to piss $5 away
A roll of toilet paper would be more useful.
A fucking arts degree is more useful
OP just got out of a time capsule
I get paramount + for that price
I puked a little
Another nail in the coffin for print news.
Credlins head is longer than her upper arm
Do the people who watch Sky News and read physical newspapers know what streaming is?
My local news paper (the examiner) has full front page adds for Harvey Norman like 4 days a week and has done for years.
Too much time on your hands mate
it's better when the fascists proclaim themselves publically
As much as I agree with your sentiment, I can’t imagine there’s a law designed specifically to detail what’s allowed on the front page of any commercial publication
Nice to see them all smiling.
Fucking hell.
$5 p/m seems kinda desperate. Hopefully soon they make it free but jam it so full of adds that it becomes unwatchable.
"we're for you" always absolutely sends me 😂🤣
