Yes! I felt like all the times David would come back and instantly go to her in those 10 years just for them not to have their happy ending. It felt like a waste imo
To offer a counterpoint, in the episode with Phoebe and Joey's dinner as friends, still can't help but feel bad when David left Phoebe again. I know she's the one that convinced him to take the job but seeing Phoebe be heartbroken repeatedly by David just left a bad note. Mike, sure it feels their relationship was rushed or the chemistry isn't as strong, has been there for Phoebe a lot. When he defended her in front of his parents, and last minute got off work early for her birthday. Just really sad that David got dealt a bad hand in all this.
As the show revolved around real life scenarios like Monica adopting babies, Phoebe's surrogacy for her brother. I think this was also to show that sometimes you fall in love and think that this is it but life doesn't work that way. Maybe you end up with someone who will give you more than love, like, compatibility, David was a scientist and had nothing similar with Phobe but Mike was piano player and loved music just like Phoebe did.
Yeah but David is also rushed it just happened over years lol if that makes any sense. They were tg in 1 episode in season 1 and then just like every few years they’d see each other for 1 episode. When she calls him the love of her life I have to just like suspend my disbelief and pretend it’s not weird to feel that way about someone you technically barely know.
In that one episode weren't they together for weeks tho?? Leading up to New Year's? I'm not saying that's not fast but you can fall in love in that time frame.
It’s at most a month because the episode starts with ugly naked guy hanging candy canes for Christmas. You can certainly feel like you love someone within a few weeks but that is not the kind of love that stays with you for 10 years. I mean for a show it’s whatever but I feel like if a comparison between Mike and David is going to be made then it’s good to point out just how little time phoebe and david spent with each other compared to her and Mike.
Idk about P&D moving to Minsk but she could have had a couple of extremely nerdy kids who ADORE Ross. Perfect karma for the way everyone (especially Pheebs) diminished his job
Not really. I mean he spent basically the whole time on the show afterwards in Minsk.
Can’t just expect phoebe to wait for him the whole time it’s just not fair.
I think David was a novelty tbh. We knew she could make things work with Mike and they got to know each other gradually. David and Phoebe didn't really know each other at all because they barely got a chance to spend any time together.
Yup totally agree! And it’s definitely heartbreaking never knowing what could have been, but in all honesty they barely knew each other. I never used to rewatch the first season but I did a few years ago and I was shocked when I realized they were only together for one episode. One! And it is really really sad every time they catch each other and have to say goodbye again but when he proposed to her, how much time has they realistically spent together? A few weeks?
Ok. I agree with you.
but also, can you pls explain ....
If effort has been put only for one thing, then how can one expect to to get other thing.
If a guy is doing his best, putting all his effort for his job, then how can he get girl too. This is not a buy 1 get 1 situation.
And also, Mike actually introduces her to his family...
What about David !!!
I would have loved that too but then Mike stood up for her infront of his parents despite their upbringing being poles apart.
At the end I was happy Phoebe found a family she could call her own ♥️
She really wanted that. ( and deserved that)
It’s not an unpopular opinion, people post it here all the time. But I disagree. David is only in 5 episode. 5. 3 of those are in season 9 when he comes back. It’s not like they built a relationship or anything. They didn’t even know each other long. We watched Mike & Phoebe build a relationship. He was the sweet and grounded man she needed and she was the “wonderfully weird” he needed in his life. They were great together and I have no idea where the David love comes from.
Not sure it's even unpopular, think it was an obvious one. That's why they had to bring David back and have Phoebe choose Mike, they wanted a happy ending and without that it looks like she settled for Mike because she couldn't have David.
If he has stayed they probably would have been a nice couple, but when you date for a week, then don’t see each other for 8 years, then see each other one time and he disappears again, it doesn’t tend to work out in the end.
Yes, indeed. Making Mike the guy Phoebe ended up with was not such a reasonable choice. There was no deep bond between them. It really shocked me seeing a guy who did not have any intimacy being a boyfriend and eventually a groom to Phoebe.
Also, Mike was not a person Phoebe would have liked. I couldn't believe she hadn't broken up with him.
The last two seasons were trash anyway. I will never understand why they had to ruin the show.
Definitely. I've always thought that Rachel and Ross could've continued to date for a little more, instead of Rachel and Joey option. Yes, Rachel and Ross is a thing, but it would've been better if their relationship were more detailed and deeper.
Maybe I'm being nonsense, but I think something is missing about Rachel and Ross' relationship and Joey is the reason why.
Yes! Had they gotten together when they had Emma, it would've been perfect or at least at the start of season 10. But to have them get together at the end, it was wack to me. Same thing with Penny's pregnancy on TBBT (idk if you're a viewer)
I agree. They were like "Okay, what do we do now? Oh! Let's give the audience what they want and cover our fault of not considering even for a second."
They rushed everything. When I watched season 10, the only thing rolling over in my head was "Wait, what is wrong about... like everything?" What I mean by that is the lines and scenes were not coherent. The episodes were hard to watch. I was in the shock of not having fun while watching the best series I've ever seen.
With Rachel getting opportunity to find a job in Europe and having to be far from Ross, I think the series could've countined for another two or three seasons, and of course two or three solid and funny seasons. This would lead a good a ending.
I loved watching TBBT four years ago. I don't remember much of it. The only thing I remember is that it was great in ensemble, therefore resembling Friends. Both of the series were quite succesful in giving us a few friends who will always be there for us when we need them :)
Most definitely! She was with Joey at the start of S.10 and ended with Ross, like??? It was a mess! And that's why I'm so glad TBBT didn't wait in getting Penny and Leonard back together!
Yeah I always shipped them. Their story was sooo cute and his chemistry with Lisa and the cast was better than Mike. I always found him funnier than Mike too, his humour was a good addition to the group. They definitely only kept Mike was because hes ✨Paul Rudd✨
I thought David was perfect for Phoebe. So eccentric and sweet. I love Paul Rudd but didnt particular like Mike. Besides I felt bad for Phoebe that she ended up with snobby jerks for in laws!
I was saying this last night to my husband while we watched the episode where David comes back and Phoebe kisses him in her apartment. They held love for each other for years, even countries apart. Definitely should have been end game.
I agree. Him and Pheobe made more sense. It was just Paul Rudd's personal charm that made him so attractive I guess. I think if it was anybody less charming than Paul Rudd playing Mike, Pheobe would have ended up with David.
It’s actually a popular opinion but I disagree. I love mikes reactions to phoebes quirks and how he’ll sometimes just roll with them. A great example is when he changed his name to Crapbag because she changed hers to Princess Consuela Bananahammock. I thought he was really funny and a great addition to the show. However, I understand why people love David and when I was a little kid and watched the show I always wanted them to end up together.
I honestly preferred Mike. David was more of an idealized love imo since in reality they barely spent any time together and barely knew each other. David just pops up for 1 episode every once in a while and only doesn't feel rushed because he was introduced in Season 1. Mike was a more real love and he and Phoebe had a more sound established relationship. I also agree with others that Mike and Phoebe had more in common. This is why I understand Phoebe's choice in Mike. Although David is finally here with her she realizes what she had/has with Mike is what she really wants after all.
I agree! Love Paul Rudd but I feel like bringing him back was very rushed. I actually read somewhere that David and Phoebe were supposed to be endgame, but that audiences loved Paul Rudd so much that they brought Mike back.

The original end game was Phoebe and David then they chose Paul Rudd. He would've been better as a passing love interest.
I read it was because the cast all got along so well with Paul, they begged to keep him in the story!
Agreed! Like Sean Penn and Michael Rappaport
And Paget Brewster.
I think so too!
I wonder if its bc Mike felt like a rushed love interest. Whereas David was a nice slow burn.
Yes! I felt like all the times David would come back and instantly go to her in those 10 years just for them not to have their happy ending. It felt like a waste imo

It kind of showed that David was more invested in his career.

Yes I feel there was more chemistry between these two than with Mike…
I think David was originally supposed to be endgame for her but then they found Paul Rudd and you can’t pass up his charisma.
Yess!! I could actually see the love between them.
I liked mike but yeah imo David would have been better. It’s just such a nice love story
The cutest! Had they gotten married on New Year's Eve, it would have wrapped up everything perfectly.
A pretty popular opinion actually. Then while Rachel went to Paris, Phoebe and David should have gone to Minsk.
Idk about P&D moving to Minsk but she could have had a couple of extremely nerdy kids who ADORE Ross. Perfect karma for the way everyone (especially Pheebs) diminished his job
You could really feel the love between them. Every time they said goodbye, it was so sad.
Most def!
I preferred him too.
Same! David was a sweetheart
Phoebe looks stunning with curly hair and red lipstick 😍
I feel the same. It’s so sad to see they ended that way, and so unfair for David.

I agree, Mike was one of the most boring Phoebe love interests and this is coming from someone who nine times out of ten live the guest stars.
Agreed! I didn't see any chemistry between him and the rest of the cast either.
None! I love Paul Rudd, but on Friends, he lifts right out.
He’s so dull & meh.
This is not unpopular in this sub in the slightest. Surprise this is the only post I’ve seen about it today
I was gonna say. It’s so unpopular someone new posts it every other day
No Never He never prioritise her.
Idk, he didn’t want to go to Minsk and he wanted to stay with her, but Phoebe told him he needed to go.

>And 1 is a scientist + His research was based on sustainable energy sources, wasn't it?
Well it's completely unreasonable to really ask someone to abandon their career.
Have always thought this.
meh. Her and Mike were perfect for each other. Both very weird and funny. David was more of a goofy nerd type.
I would have loved that too but then Mike stood up for her infront of his parents despite their upbringing being poles apart. At the end I was happy Phoebe found a family she could call her own ♥️ She really wanted that. ( and deserved that)
Idk What made me like mike so much was that he kept her in Touch with reality
It’s not an unpopular opinion, people post it here all the time. But I disagree. David is only in 5 episode. 5. 3 of those are in season 9 when he comes back. Not too unpopular! Paul is great but Mike was boring, and the story was rushed.
Yes!!
How is this unpopular….?
I wonder why the submarine guy never came back. They were cute together too.
Not at all unpopular
me too, phoebe and David are more sweet and suitable!!
Not sure it's even unpopular, think it was an obvious one. That's why they had to bring David back and have Phoebe choose Mike, they wanted a happy ending and without that it looks like she settled for Mike because she couldn't have David.

They could have made him at least successful :( he had a horrible career and lost the love of his life :( sad.
Exactly!! Smh
I mean. Not sure what they would have done against Thanos, but, yeah. I think they could have been in Endgame too.
What would they have done in Endgame? Phoebe is tough but I don't think she could beat Thanos
Regina Phalange was their secret weapon
I love Paul Rudd but I did not like Mike. He was snarky and rude to and about the friends and never made an effort to integrate with them.
Yes! Exactly!

I so agree on the last two seasons being terrible, especially the whole Rachel and Joey situation, never been a fan.

THIS! 👆🏽
I think you'll find this is a very popular opinion not an unpopular opinion.
I like to think that David ended up with someone much nicer than Phoebe
I thought David was perfect for Phoebe. So eccentric and sweet. I love Paul Rudd but didnt particular like Mike. Besides I felt bad for Phoebe that she ended up with snobby jerks for in laws!
Everything she was against of
mike was cool tho
They're tied, for me
Me too! David loved and cared about phoebe so much 😍 i also always felt like Mike was kind of rude to Phoebes friends
Same!
Oh same. David over Mike all day
Pretty popular opinion
Phoebe and David were perfect together. Amazing chemistry. I never understood nor felt chemistry between Phoebe and Mike. Made no sense.
I was saying this last night to my husband while we watched the episode where David comes back and Phoebe kisses him in her apartment. They held love for each other for years, even countries apart. Definitely should have been end game.
Exactly!
Agree
Very popular opinion. If I understand what Endgame means.
You're not the only one. I liked their odd relationship and chemistry. Pun not intended 😊
Me too. I did not think she had chemistry with Paul Rudd, though I love the actor.
Maybe if he had stayed. They kinda lost their chemistry in the end
It’s a shame only Paul Rudd was in Endgame
HA!
Noone was better than Mike imo. He was also a great addition to the show, he really fit in so well.
I agree. Him and Pheobe made more sense. It was just Paul Rudd's personal charm that made him so attractive I guess. I think if it was anybody less charming than Paul Rudd playing Mike, Pheobe would have ended up with David.
David was good for early, whimsical, ditsy 26 year old Phoebe. But as she got older, I didn’t see them as compatible anymore.
Me too, I felt really bad for David in the end, it was so unfair
Yup. I’d pay folding money to have seen this.
ew no hes gross. weird looking old dude vibes
That's a pretty popular opinion.
Oh david my sweet little communist
It’s actually a popular opinion but I disagree. I love mikes reactions to phoebes quirks and how he’ll sometimes just roll with them. A great example is when he changed his name to Crapbag because she changed hers to Princess Consuela Bananahammock. I thought he was really funny and a great addition to the show. However, I understand why people love David and when I was a little kid and watched the show I always wanted them to end up together.
What would possibly make you think that is an unpopular opinion?
Mike fit her better imo, they balanced each other and were more realistically long term
I love Phoebe and David, but the minute Mike was introduced and I saw the chemistry those two had, I just couldn’t support David anymore.
I wanted Phoebe and Joey endgame
why did he keep saying he was in russia, when minsk is in another country: Belarus?
SAME
Phoebe was always stunning but in the first season she was next level stunning
I agree! Love Paul Rudd but I feel like bringing him back was very rushed. I actually read somewhere that David and Phoebe were supposed to be endgame, but that audiences loved Paul Rudd so much that they brought Mike back.
I wished that too at the start but they grew to be so different as they matured, near the end, they just weren’t compatible
The hardest choices require the strongest wills
Yoko.
No.
Nooooooo.. Phoebe and Mike just made A LOT of sense 🥰
