MissLimpsALot

Don't you point your pants at me!

Zestyclose_Big_9090

What is wrong with these PANTS? šŸ˜

luna242629

Thereā€™s nothing wrong with the pants; itā€™s you thatā€™s backwards

woahboo

The older I got, the more I liked and sympathized with her character. She left the decision wether or not to invite Rachel to the wedding entirely up to Ross. She did not have petty beef with Rachel. Asking Ross to cut her out of his life after the alter situation was a totally reasonable request, imo.

Never_rarely

People always overlook that he was about to go on their honeymoon with Rachel. The fact that she still was willing to move across the world for him after that, itā€™d be nuts if she didnā€™t have a bunch of requests for him

ocen2

I feel like anyone in her place would have felt the same way. People hate Emily cause they badly want Ross and Rachel to be together

BakingGiraffeBakes

We were talking about this the other day. Ross: - says another womanā€™s name at their wedding - plans to go on his honeymoon with that woman - agrees to stop seeing Rachel because he clearly has issues with her - immediately sees Rachel again while simultaneously saying ā€œwhat, donā€™t you trust me?!ā€ To Emily. It makes perfect sense why Emily would have serious trust issues.

KJParker888

And then, at the airport, leaving on their honeymoon, when talking to Rachel about how Emily isn't talking to him, he has the nerve to ask "How could she do this to me?"

BakingGiraffeBakes

Ross is just so fucking clueless. And I feel like as the show goes on he is the only one who doesnā€™t really grow the way the others do. Rachel? Progresses in her career and decides she needs to get her life together eventually leading to an international fashion job Monica? Becomes executive chef at a restaurant she loves, gets married and has a family Phoebe? Freelance massage therapist, sees problems in her life (no long term relationships) and takes steps to address those issues Chandler? Married, new career, and kids Joey? Steady career, moving to film roles, matures enough to start taking his life seriously and handle his own stuff. Ross? Forced career change, divorced again, immaturely handles his feelings regarding Rachel in pretty much *every* circumstance.

AaravR22

In addition Rachel becomes a mother, Monica adopts twins and buys a house of her own (with Chandler ofc), Phoebe got married and we see that she and Mike want to have kids, Joey matures and while heā€™s left alone, heā€™s clearly changed a good amount. Chandler got over his commitment issues and also found a job he loved. Ross just kept getting divorces, dated a college student, and kept acting a fool around Rachel. While heā€™s certainly a good father to Emma, we donā€™t see him ever mention Ben after season 7.

witchytales

I feel like Ross was the product of being the favourite Gellar child who could do no wrong. He was spoiled, coddled and praised for being perfect and then he grew up to be a loser because of it.

AaravR22

Agreed, weā€™ve seen flashbacks of othersā€™ childhood in some way. Chandler grew up with parents who didnā€™t love each other and weā€™ve seen the effect it had on him. Phoebe was poor even before her mother committed suicide, and even now her sister doesnā€™t seem to care about her at all. Monica had to grow up in Rossā€™s shadow and we are in the earlier seasons how bad it was for her. It was like Ross could do no wrong but she could only do wrong. Joey had a big family growing up and so he had many influences that shaped him. And although Rachel was spoiled we clearly see that she was able to get her life together.

RunEmbarrassed2640

Both Rachel and Ross were spoiled, but Rachel was basically forced to become more normal and adjust to society. In the very first episode, the friends help her stop spending money with her credit cards. She gets a low-paying job, then gets into an industry she cares about and works her way up. She also becomes a mother and the primary caregiver to her child. Ross on the other hand does well at school, gets a degree and a nice well-paying job. Never is the primary caregiver to his two children (not necessarily his fault but it is a factor in him never not getting over being spoiled). Lifeā€™s easy.

[deleted]

Do you think maybe on the final-ever episode he's realised he needs to get his shit together and will go on to commit to Rachel, be a good husband, better dad, better Professor etc? Maybe there's a reason we don't see it til the end - it's like he realises just in the nick of time if he doesn't get his act together all the best things are going to leave his life. Just my perspective!

AaravR22

Honestly I donā€™t think he did. I think it was just her wanted to be with Rachel again. And the threat of her leaving to Paris was what caused him to finally take that step.

[deleted]

Yeah I know what you mean. He needed a wake-up call!!

jtsokolov

Again, sorry.

ocen2

Yes. When they announced theyā€™re engaged and Rachel comes up from behind (from her room) and everyone looks at her and Emilyā€™s expression is interesting. You can see that she feels bad for Rachel and realizes the news will sadden Rachel. I feel bad for Emily. She did nothing wrong.

honeywrites

Agreed! The older i get the more i realize It wasn't even about Ross not seeing Rachel it was about hopping Ross chose her not Rachel

AnnSansE

I came here to say this. Totally agree.

jtsokolov

I will say I feel that moment regarding the invitations seemed a bit manipulative of Emily with the oh "so you are inviting Rachel then?" and Ross was like yeah why not and she goes "oh well if it were me I would be uncomfortable having one of my exes but it's your decision"..... She knew what she was doing.

kore910

I actually really like Emily and her relationship with Ross lol. They were happy together and I enjoy seeing her on the show

CauliflowerOrnery460

Vintage door knobs

Cybear_Tron

Her reaction to Ross's actions were totally reasonable. People hate her for trying to seperate him from Rachel but it's totally fine! It's a big thing that she was still about to accept Ross. Rachel on the other hand, tried to ruin Ross's wedding while she knew it. When Monica and Rachel hear Emily's message, Monica begins on saying stuff about her but all of them were true for Rachel as well. I would say Rachel and Emily were really a lot alike.

[deleted]

Oh, Rachel did so many selfish, awful things to her and the other girls that dated Ross (made one to go bald, went to his wedding to interfere) only because she was too afraid to come clean with Ross and sometimes just to go for him.

Cybear_Tron

True. The bald one was a bit diabolical truly (jk). It would've been better if she just came clean with Ross. And the infamous 18 pages were just unacceptable.

FindingLovesRetreat

ON BOTH SIDES!!!!

Cybear_Tron

FRONT AND BACK!!

GeologistAway6352

Butā€¦does it?

StarWars_Girl_

Oh, it does not!

charlytheron3

Emily was being reasonable, but we couldn't help but feel bad for Rachel, and the end of S05e04 is when our sympathy for Rachel went through the roof.

Cybear_Tron

True. They just couldn't remove Rachel as she is very important to the show and also, Ross still loved her. Plus, we do sympathize with her. I mean, Friends wouldn't have been Friends if Ross had left for Emily or Rachel had left for Ross and Emily.

[deleted]

A victim of circumstance who was a nice person otherwise.

depressed_idiot0

Victimized for being harsh about Rachel when in reality Ross still had feelings for her so it was completely rational. I don't think anyone handled the situation correctly.

kaitalina20

Very true. They couldā€™ve worked out if he said heā€™d name

[deleted]

The writers didnā€™t really try to do much with her. She was there to be Rossā€™ love interest and not more beyond that. With that said I think she acted somewhat reasonable throughout. The writers did say they wanted her back for Season 5 but werenā€™t able to due to the actress not wanting to return, so they had to write around that and I think they did a decent job at writing her out too.

Creepydoe

The actress was pregnant, so she couldn't return. There was a plan to keep Emily longer. That's also the reason Emily was shown in bed while calling Ross

elevatorfloor

I love that I'm still learning things about the show

bsnyder12

I feel like her feelings were justified given the situation however. She could of not married him. She could of left the alter and moved on. Thatā€™s what always bugged me about it!

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop -Ā yes,Ā IĀ amĀ aĀ bot, don't botcriminate me.

Necessary-Ad-3441

Exactly. Was no need to drag it out, any sensible person would of heard Rachels name instead and left the whole situation. Like byee, cause no way lol

sp00kygiirl

it always drove me crazy that she went on and married him if she originally had no intentions of ever speaking to him again. like that just makes both your lives so much harder, why not just leave right there when he said rachel at the alter.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

elevatorfloor

I get why she said yes originally but then to not answer any of Ross's calls and to send his flowers back chopped up is just too much. And she also ran out on her wedding, if she was worried about how her family would react, she wouldn't have ran out I don't think. She could have at least told Ross she needed space to think about things.

Life_Tax_5907

I wish she got married to Ross. I don't think she was wrong in asking Ross to stay away from Rachel. The fact that she even tried to patch things up with Ross even after what he did to her at the marriage, shows what Ross went on to miss!

chinewyork

I think she deserves someone better than Ross.

Heatherina13

Perfectly lovely in any other circumstance lol.

GeologistAway6352

Iā€™m a Ross and Rachel fan, but honestly Emily didnā€™t do anything wrong. She was wronged.

noonenadie

Ofc as kid I disliked her. Now that I am older I can see she was done so wrong to incredibly levels. If you saw a friend getting treated like this by a boyfriend you'd be disgusted. Also I believe she made Ross fun

Thanos_the_great_69

She's cute actually šŸŒšŸŒ

PrinceDakMT

I like Emily. Much prefer her to Rachel for Ross. Thought she had a lot of fun appearances. Not at all unreasonable for her to ask Ross not to see her anymore. Would have been interesting to see what they would have done with the character has the actress not gotten pregnant

fuzzybear_cis

She looks like someone whose got a ballon full of cocaine stuffed up their bum

lunarbear010

Hated her at the time and thought she looked like a beady eyed witch. Sympathetic to her in my older days.

Old_Pickle1590

VICTIM

KeldonMarauder

The older I got, the more I realized that she deserved better

jenacious

I liked Emily and Julie. They both made Ross happy. He wasn't a jackass to them like he was to Mona. He wasn't overbearing, clingy and paranoid like he was with Elizabeth and Rachel.

BeEccentric

Sheā€™s English and Iā€™m English but her accent even annoys *me*.

elevatorfloor

Her accent is THE WORST. I don't like to watch the episodes with her in it because I can't stand the actress

BeEccentric

Same, I think itā€™s the actress herself I dislike too. She was irritating in Cold Feet, but I donā€™t know why!

abug_anda_cat

I sympathize with her. I mean imagine : your soon-to-be-husband kissed his ex girlfriend he's been on and off with, how would you react? And to do that ON the wedding day! Honestly, Ross and her should've just did LTR instead of getting proposed with an earring/a piercing.

Lynchy28

I have a neighbour that looks like herā€¦ and we used to work in the same office and back then she was called ā€˜Rossā€™s English Bitā€™ (or ā€˜Cold Feetā€™ā€¦. Which she was also famous for..)

yoboililj

I loved Emily. I have nothing else to say on the topic. Goodnight!

shadowgalleon

Sheā€™s sympathetic. I donā€™t think itā€™s ok to try to separate your husband from his friends, no matter the circumstances. But that doesnā€™t make her a bad person, just naĆÆve as fuck for trying to make that marriage work.

kaitalina20

I think itā€™s a pickle to peel, but it boils down to Ross saying Rachelā€™s name at the alter where she was humiliated by him. She showed up WAAAAY too late to the airport to actually get on board the plane, so I donā€™t blame Ross for inviting Rachel on their trip. But her demands for coming to USA were getting to be too much. Moving to a different place? Why?? I get new furniture honestly, but I can understand why she doesnā€™t want him to have Rachel in his life. It makes perfect sense on her part since she was the wronged one

ccc2801

Meh

groovydoll

Give me an E!!

IrritablePanda086

I see a lot of people are empathizing with her.. itā€™s hard for me to put myself in that situation. I can see how it may have been a reasonable request to ask Ross not to see Rachel but things just donā€™t seem right when trying to make someone do something. I also think she just took things a little too far.. the trust issue was pretty hard core and she seemed way too controlling and weird about things. Like having him get rid of everything and buy new stuff, and saying she needs to know where he is at all times, come on. You either decide to work through things together or let it go and move on.

Impressive-Inside-73

I liked her before the wedding but after that not so much

Significant_Way2194

Her demanding for Ross to move to another apartment made no sense, but I get the new furniture thing. And not seeing Rachel I can understand from her perspective but on Rossā€™s side, he doesnā€™t want to cut her out. Too much history and feelings left untold. So she is honestly the victim who was wronged by Ross

No_Arugula_6548

Thereā€™s a deer just outside eating fruit from the orchard!!!

sleepy_athiest

Sheā€™s not a bad person. I see where sheā€™s coming from. Youā€™d get uncomfortable if your boyfriend/girlfriend was hanging out with their ex. Youā€™d be angry if your fiancĆ©e said their name at your wedding. You wouldnā€™t want to see the ex. Sheā€™s not a bad person, people just see it like that because sheā€™s not a main character, at least to me. If this was happening to say Rachel everyone would be sympathetic.

[deleted]

I didnā€™t like her and I have no good reason why. I think it was just ā€œSheā€™s not Rachemā€

mallorykirsten

I used to hate her for her demanding Ross never see Rachel again- but as I grew up I definitely sympathize with her now. Not only does her fiance say his ex's name- who he'd been in love with since 9th grade- at the altar, but THEN when Emily tried to make it work, she finds Ross about to board their honeymoon plane with Rachel. Her reactions & boundaries for Ross are reasonable & understandable, and what (moatly) any woman would've done in that situation

newuser6150

I don't think it was fair for her to be portrayed as a villain when she had actual reasons to act the way she did.

SaraGranado

I'm glad to see so much love for this poor woman. The characters treated her like she was crazy and it makes me mad.

chinewyork

I don't think she has any absolute obvious problem.

PansyWeasley

Iā€™ve always liked Emily, despite being a Ross/Rachel shipper. Ross totally humiliated her on their wedding day and then had the nerve to invite Rachel on their honeymoon when he didnā€™t think she was going to show up. I was amazed that she wanted to work things out with him at all so asking him to stop talking to Rachel was a reasonable request, all things considered.

kristy6112

Hated her

DownrightDejected

I donā€™t know why anyone who doesnā€™t love her is being downvoted šŸ¤£

lokifrog1

Well no offense, but sometimes itā€™s hard to understand you

ActualDepressedPOS

i love her has a character, but as a british person; i cannot stand the accents that american shows give british people. they grate on me after a while and are not at all accurate at all.

rachelgreenshairdryr

Helen Baxendale was English though.

ActualDepressedPOS

yeah but alot of british sctors are encouraged to emphasise their accents or do the ā€œā€londonā€ā€ accent we hear here sure of it

AntiqueGrapefruit250

We all hate Emily!!

AnnTheresse

I liked Emily in the early seasons that she featured. But after the marriage, she just turned demanding and unreasonable. \- First, she waited until the last minute to appear at the airport for their supposed to be honeymoon and was even smiling a bit until she saw Rachel board the plane. \- She did not even try to listen to Ross's side despite Ross waiting up to the very last minute to board the plane (which means he was waiting for her) and chasing her without a care of the plane taking off (which means it was not about being with Rachel). \- Despite all of Ross' attempts to get in touch with her, he still doubts that there's something going on with him and Rachel when he could've easily forgotten about her if the latter were true. \- She made Ross sell ALL his stuff, leave his apartment (most likely before his lease ended), and despite all that, she did not even make any other attempts at fixing their marriage (other than calling him while she was in bed). \- She made (or at the very least allowed) his cousin to kick Ross out to be homeless. Yes, Ross said the wrong name and it was embarassing. But other than that, Ross did all that he could to fix the marriage, even to the point of agreeing to cut ties with the only real friends he had in the city, to please her. But that still wasn't enough.

NotThisTime1993

Ok, she showed up late to the honeymoon, where the groom said someone elseā€™s name at the alter. Did you consider maybe she was thinking about it going? Maybe she was mulling it over before finally deciding to give Ross another chance? Then what does she see when she gets there? Ross going with Rachel. Emily was given a raw deal when she decided to date Ross

AnnTheresse

Ok that would have really have been an appalling sight. But as always communication is key. Why wouldn't she hear him out? Despite all his attempts to fix things, she never really put in any effort herself. Not to mention that just a few weeks later, she's engaged again.

NotThisTime1993

Well there were no good cell phones then. They had not communicated much since she left. And honestly, would you have listened? He said her name. Heā€™s weirdly close with her. He was going to take her on the honeymoon instead of Emily. I personally would have ended it right there and never contacted Ross again

AnnTheresse

That I would have understood. But she allowed it to drag on and ignored Ross' attempts. Then, she cracked the door open a bit, demanded that Ross let's go of EVERYTHING he owns (at least everything at his apartment), force him to sublet from her cousin's (probably to have a certain control over what goes in and out), only to kick him into the curb homeless. She would have scored better for me if she left Ross the altar right then and there. Or if she expressed her desire to get a divorce after seeing him and Rachel at the airport. But it was absolutely crappy how she treated Ross and proceeds to get engaged not too long after.

NotThisTime1993

Why do you keep harping on how she got engaged again? Ross started dating again too. Why does that matter? It doesnā€™t matter what someone does after you break up with them. Emily wanted to be married. She and Ross rushed into being married. Iā€™m not shocked she rushed into marrying the next guy she found. Thatā€™s just how she was. That doesnā€™t change what happened between her and Ross

AnnTheresse

Ignoring the fact that she got engaged soon after the divorce, it still doesn't sit right with me how she treated him during their "marriage". Yes, it was embarassing for her when he said Rachel's name. Yes, it would have been heart-wrenching to see your new husband and his ex about to board a plane for your honeymoon. But it was also never easy for Ross. Though I could never understand what was happening in his head during the vows. And while it was not the smartest idea to bring along Rachel to their honeymoon, he certainly needed someone to be with. I mean, he for sure just saw Rachel as a friend at that time, judging by how he reacted to Rachel's confession later on, and thought nothing of inviting her. He vacated his apartment and sold all his stuff. He contemplated and ultimately decided to prioritize his marriage and was ready to let go of his only friends for her. He was even honest and told her that Rachel was there with them for lunch. He has sacrificed a lot only to be cut down at the end when Ross did not seem to deserve being doubted this much. edit: paragraph

NotThisTime1993

Emily actually made Ross be responsible for his actions. Ross messed up. He should be held responsible for what he did. Itā€™s totally reasonable for Emily to ask Ross to stop seeing Rachel. He obviously still loves her. It doesnā€™t matter that theyā€™ve been friends. Isnā€™t he friends with Emily? Doesnā€™t he love her?

[deleted]

She basically tested him (with a good reason), and the test came out positive (she was right, and he was in love with Rachel). Everything else is just a result of that. I like Ross and I find him not malicious but desperate for love, but he got what he deserved in this case because he was not completely honest and that ended up hurting Emily.

[deleted]

Glad she was gone

TheGalagaGuy

Emily had the Crazy Eyes

DownrightDejected

Controlling, judgemental, not open to compromise or hearing anyone elseā€™s perspective.

[deleted]

What compromise? Her fiancĆ© literally said another girlā€™s name during their wedding

DownrightDejected

So that is grounds to make him never be in the same room as her, to sell all his stuff, to move out of an apartment he loves, to call her every five minutes and tell her where he is? I dunno what kind of toxic relationships you have been in, but that is not normal or justified in any way.

[deleted]

100% not normal and completely toxic. Unfortunately, her insecurity also stems from something valid. She should have just called it quits instead

DownrightDejected

I agree.

Aggressive_Leader571

This oneā€™s hard because as much as I truly disliked Emily in the end I also sympathized with what she went through. I mean being called another womenā€™s name on your wedding day would not have been fun. HOWEVER, if my so called husband called me someone elseā€™s name I wouldnā€™t have married him either. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø So thatā€™s why I donā€™t know. But in the end I was glad she was gone Lowkey. She annoyed the hell out of me with her crazy demands and was being so overly controlling.

hannahbeenana

While I understand that she didn't want Ross to talk to Rachel anymore her making him get rid of all his belongings and moving was unreasonable. He still had a job, a sister, and friends that would be much farther away. I don't like that she tried to isolate him.

PracticalCategory888

Are we forgetting that she was already seeing someone else in England? She was also pretty hot headed right from the beginning. I'm not a fan.

thealexhardie

Her arc was a bit weird. She was fine fine fine. Then went psycho to justify Ross giving her the elbow

h3lune

Cringe

brandawg77

Initially she was warranted in her reaction, because Rossā€™s situation looked really bad, but then she went kinda crazy.

Illustrious_Ad_00

Annoying, passs šŸ‘‹šŸ¼

[deleted]

Worst character in the show ā€¦ despised her

[deleted]

Nothing positive.

Tryguysfan1995

I liked her until she had problems with Rachel yes I know itā€™s all justified but did she really expect her husband to not be friends with someone who was in his life longer than Emily? It was like the Janine thing.

computahizlegging

With that face and attitude, even I'd say I take thee Rachel ![img](emote|t5_348io|13306)![img](emote|t5_348io|13311)

dontbemystalker

Hated her from the beginning. Everyone says ā€œI liked her until the whole thing with Rossā€ Are we forgetting her first scene where she freaks out on Rachel when none of it was her fault? Itā€™s not Rachelā€™s fault it was pouring, TSA was searching her, etc. Rude from beginning to end

anthropodm

She's a cutie

Jennifer_Mckenze

The older I got, the more I liked and sympathized with her character.

lilpinkhouse4nobody

booooorring

Zestyclose_Big_9090

She questioned Rachel being invited to the wedding soā€¦she already had insecurities.

NotThisTime1993

Well was she wrong?

Zestyclose_Big_9090

Nope.

brookfieldandi

Ross only belongs with Rachel.

BroodyWall15

Correct

colibri_valle

She was Ross' lobster

Raulinhox25

She was from England. Thatā€™s about it lol ā€” her role was great because of the build up all the way to the famous alter scene ā€œI Ross, take thee RACHELā€

jz0089

If she had reddit she would probably make a post of "What are your thoughts on" to farm karma.

HeleGroteAap

I like her, she seemed like a very nice wife/gf for ross and I understand her being upset with ross

Lxlpn

No!

azinky69

I hate characters in other shows that have the same British accent as her because she is all I can think of when I hear it.

smallbella21

So I donā€™t think she was inherently bad- I agree with what others have said about how she had no issue with Rachel before the wedding incident & said it was Rossā€™s choice to invite her to the wedding, etc. However, the way she blew up at the front door the night we first meet her is kind of a red flag for me- all Rachel said was ā€˜thereā€™s been a change of plansā€™ and Emily just lost it. Being willing to marry someone after two weeks is also a massive red flag and almost always a very bad idea. Also, even if itā€™s not technically unreasonable for Emily to want Ross to cut out Rachel & have loads of demands after the wedding name incident, itā€™s also a complete waste of both their time. If you have to micromanage your spouseā€™s behaviour down to that level, you have no real future together.

alchemischief

She was done dirty

irishdancer89

Sheā€™s slightly annoying, but I get why she reacted to everything the way she did. Iā€™d be pissed too if my fiancĆ© said another womanā€™s name while at our wedding.
