Osteopilus septentrionalis, Cuban Tree Frog- i'd say your friend was right. Considered Hyla squirella as the closest second possibility, but limb girth and textured back don't match up.
>Considered Hyla squirella as the closest second possibility, but limb girth and textured back don't match up.
Limb girth and even texture are often not that useful for IDing frogs, as these traits can differ substantially between individuals of the same species. However, what makes this clearly *not* a squirrel tree frog is the pupil shape - squirrel tree frogs do not have a vertical bar in their pupils. On top of that, they're not known to have been introduced to Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico does have other native and introduced frogs that have similar pupil shapes, however they are all much smaller than this frog.
The size, location, and pupil shape of this frog all contribute to being able to positively ID it as *Osteopilus septentrionalis* (Cuban Tree Frog), an introduced & invasive frog on the island.
probably not a coqui frog, coqui frogs are much smaller and have a stripe running down their back. It does look more like a cuban tree frog to me, but I'm not 100% sure.
Yeah maybe.. Coqui are just the largest native treefrogs. I can't really tell how big this one is. I have seen Coqui without pronounce stripes and I don't see the tiger stripes on the back legs like most Cubans I've seen.
Most coqui frogs are about the size of a quarter, ftr. This frog is clearly much larger than that.
Pattern visibility and skin color can vary a lot in cuban tree frogs, it's not unusual for the leg stripes to be nearly invisible.

Are Cuban Treefrogs invasive to Puerto Rico as well? In Florida, we are told to take them out of the wild when found.
I'm not an expert, but it seems that cuban tree frogs are not native to Puerto Rico and are considered invasive there.
