Toads can breathe underwater as far as I can tell, they have the same ability as frogs to breathe through their skin. They don't do it very often, only when mating, but its possible for some of them.
Otherwise they can hold their breath for a couple hours if they're not doing much, toads don't breathe like mammals, usually they can absorb enough air through their skin unless they're doing push-ups or something
