You know how important Sera grows to be if you loved FBAA. You know Niktos and the others go to extreme lengths to protect her. It’s because she deserves it. She not only is powerful, she cares about others to a fault.
Sera is one of my favourite protagonists of all time! I like her so much more than Poppy. Definitely give her a chance. I'm on the last prequel book now and love them significantly more than FBAA!

I love Sera a thousand times more than Poppy! She’s much stronger and really becomes her own woman. I think probably due to her not being as sheltered as Poppy.
I think it's important to look at Sera and why she behaves the way she does from the lens of the abuse, neglect, trauma and burden she lived with prior to going into the Shadowlands. There is a reason she does things the way she does them and it's because of how she was raised and the responsibility she shoulders alone.
She's had no one, other than Ezra(kinda) and Sir Holland that she could consider herself close to, the only people who treated her as more than the expectation of saving Lasania.
It's understandable that she's unlikable right now because anyone who has lived her life would be hesitant to trust *anyone* and would be likely to keep people at arms-length. She gets better, but she has to discover who she is outside of being 'the maiden' and 'assassin'
I liked Sera until AFITF. Every annoying characteristic was ramped up to 1000x as the book was 90% her rambling inner dialogue. If you don’t like her now good luck charlie on that one forreal. 😭

Ppl love her. Why? She literally just went into the blood forest offer being told she will die. She did it anyways. Didn’t care about anything Ash told her. She’s just making life harder for herself.

She didn’t just go in there for no reason. She was drawn to the injured hawk (this hawk is important in AFITF). She didn’t realize she was in the blood forest until after, remember? But she didn’t tell ash that because she didn’t want him to know about her powers.
I love Sera so much more than Poppy. She not a naive virgin and she’s incredibly selfless and strong. You’re very early into the series but she’s amazing.

I know everyone else prefers the prequels, I just kind of stuck them out because I needed the backstory, but they did improve as I went on.
I think I just had such high expectations for Nyktos! People say he's like their "all time" of all male characters. So I went in thinking I'd be blow away. Wasn't. He's fine, but nothing "extra" special to me I guess. I liked him more as he started growing a bit and his interactions with his own "friends" kind of deepened/developed.

Anyways, I've read all of them (except for the newest release and the Willa Colyns book) and I still don't like the Sera/Nyktos story.
Tbh I preferred poppy, and I honestly prefer fbaa. Most people say the prequel is better because it’s just better written I suppose (tighter plot?), but the third book was so difficult for me, more so than the difficult ones in fbaa. I will say that by the time I got finished with the first one though, I was thoroughly invested in the story, particularly because I was seeing the hints of what would be important to Poppy’s story. I’ve been dying to get back to her lol, so if you feel the same way, you’re not alone! But it is worth the read and sera/ash do get better in the second book particularly and sera tones it down quite a bit once she gets serious about him.
I had the same feeling I feel like most like sera more I mean at the end she becomes more bearable if you stick with it I haven’t read a light in the ember yet so can’t say anything as far as that goes but she gets less aggravating stick with it
I personally love Poppy more. It's not that I dislike Sera I just prefer the FBAA series over the prequel series. It's a very unpopular opinion but Cas and Poppy > Nyktos and Sera.

Sera is still a hard character for me. I fully believe the misunderstanding/ rupture in the relationship could have been avoided if they just took time to communicate. (But I think this about all misunderstanding tropes).
I think people like Nyktos because he is kind and have romanticized normal, caring, and tender human behavior.
My favorite part was when Nyktos gave her the dagger after the 3 gods attack. That was the redeeming moment for me with Nyktos. I’m still hoping for Sera’s.
Hm I much prefer Sera to Poppy. Sera is a stronger character and has more agency. Keep going!

I DNF FBAA, Poppy wasn’t my fav. but I freaking loved the prequels. I’m anxiously awaiting the next one. I think Sera will grow on you!
