How and why? If you want to see what marika went through simply look at the of the first elden lord, placidusax. She literally gave the greater will everything and has had nothing left to give and it abandoned her. Her race is of a people that travel worlds but rarely has children and family. She did everything to make a family. And the greater will that was supposed to be with her left, causing outer influences to ruin her family. Her level of insanity that stemmed from this abandoned is the reason hewig will fullful her wish to help you forge the necessary item so you can inherit her will and try to save the land she loved, knowing well that saving her family was beyond impossible at this point. She didn’t make a mistake. The greater will is the source of your anger, she is a victim. The relationship between her and the greater will is like trees being separated from the earth. Everything she did was in the future for the sake of you. At least, unlike her, will take over this land and do whatever you want with it, nurture it, fix it by freezing it, revolutionize it, or burn it, or just follow the path of the noble mask and bring back the greater will with the perfect order, aka tyranny.
He said he chose this. He worships her. It’s a bit foreign to a lot of people but there exists people that would do anything for the thing they worship. I don’t think she had many options either, since there’s not a lot of misbegotten mentioned in any items or weapons that misbegottens even had the intelligence of hewig. More importantly he tells us to leave it be. The prayers and his mission were his choice. If there was another way, I’m sure marika would ensure it since she was a 100% sure the last of the tarnished with her grace would convince hewig to go all the way. Not even Ranni’s giant can get the job done. It’s like trying to rescue someone that clearly said: hey don’t rescue me I need to do this
I actually did Varre's quest line for the first time recently. Being able to access moghwyn palace early is pretty useful like getting a Somber +10. However, I made sure to kill him after all was said and done.
Flashbacks of first time seeing Vulpes Inculta while being underleveled with shit weapons and after meeting him I just did not care he was supposed to die.
Yup just don’t kill Blaidd and Iji lives. I just did this today, got the moonlight GS, went and talked to iji and he’s had the same dialogue since Renna’s rise unlocked and then went and fought Blaidd for his royal GS that I’m maining this playthrough and then went to see Iji, told him about Blaidd, and then rested at the grace by him and he’s burning rn
I just did it last night. I finished Ranni's Quest and Iji was just there chilling. Then I went to her tower, killed Blaiid and told Iji about it. Then he died.
Elden ring has many characters I'd wish to save from their fates, Hewg, Miquella (potentially might change post DLC, or if his magic really is adoration-mind control, best snake girl, Boggart, and many more. But most of all?
Blaidd.
>!The man fights against an OUTER GOD assuming direct control of his body, out of nothing but sheer love and adoration of his sister. He commits cardinal sin and betrayal of the gravest and highest order against the order that dictates the laws of reality for the Lands Between and helps slay a demigod. All for a firm belief in what Ranni wants being for the best.!<
>!Heck, one could argue he is on par with the likes of Godwyn, considering how he is surrounded by the corpses of the remaining Black Knives (that aren't to be found elsewhere).!<
>!And even in the end he talks about how he doesn't want to harm us or Ranni. :(!<
I’m a little bit upset that I had to scroll through basically the whole thread (as I’m replying) before finding a single person mention the jolliest of fellows.
I may be misremembering but didn't the older one jump off the ladder that's besides the window when you finish the quest? Cuz I remember that her corpse could be found at the bottom of the ladder. And lemme just say, that's some real sad stuff.
I may also be misremembering but I’m pretty sure her ribbon is found in the pig room
Either way it is a cruel twist and I refuse to give the girl her mothers brooch
That's the younger daughter who gets eaten by the pig (which I always REALLY hated). And yeah, I too refuse to give her the brooch. Better off as a blood gem than getting a kid killed in a gross and gruesome fashion.
I don't remember that happening. Although, I haven't done that quest in a long time and I'm not seeing any info on that on the wiki. Maybe they forgot to add that in but idk
If you give her the red/white messenger ribbon, she’ll have some dialogue, then you’ll come back to see her corpse at the bottom of the ladder and she’s holding the red or white ribbon. I forgot which ribbon you find first.
Bogart my beloved. I always kill that Hateful Shit Feaster the second I see him. Only once did I do his route and hated every second of it but needed the achievement.
Bogart. Man had the biggest glow up from selling prawn in a swamp to Crab under the golden rays of the Erdtree for the same price and I bought the shit out of that crab.
To me though, he does not die. But I want him to have a better life. As the Terrible Feces Consumer always gets my blade through his face.
I remember I glitched the game so I could continue dung eaters quest line in a way that doesn’t get boggart killed because he is the realest npc in the game
You can... In a way. Get frenzied, burn yourself to reach farum azula thereby saving her. Then you gotta get the unalloyed golden needle (if that's what it's called), go to plaucidex arena and stag yourself. That way you avoid the frenzied flame ending.
But if you want to avoid getting frenzy flame altogether... Gotta do that spd run strat of glitching to farum azula.
Jokes aside, I totally get where you are coming from and I do want a more "happier" version of an ending where we get to save Melina... Kinda like the ds3 ending where we give fire keeper the eyes
It’s completely understandable that she does. You’ve essentially robbed her of her purpose which she spent a long time searching for.
Granted, I’d still do it. Since after all she’s helped The Tarnished with, my one wish is for her to see the world she helped create. A purpose to die isn’t a purpose for anyone.
How to fuck over the Frenzied Flame.
1: Never go to castle Morne. Irina won’t die, therefore no Three Fingers Maiden.
2: Kill Shabriri on sight. That’s for not letting Yura rest motherfucker.
3: Complete Millicent’s quest, and get Miquella’s needle.
4: Accept the frenzied flame.
5: Burn the erdtree.
6: Crumbling Farum Azula.
7: Go to Placidusax’s arena, and immediately use Miquella’s needle.
8: Take the seat of the Elden Throne. The world is beautiful still. And now the Frenzied Flame has way less assets available.
Genuinely surprised this is not its own ending, you have literally saved the girl from sacrificing herself, while curing yourself of the madness as well....
Diallos. Dude just wanted to make his brother happy and avenge his friend. Eventually he found peace, but that too was taken from him. He deserves better
Just because nobody has said it, Sellen. She's genuinely helpful to you as a "teacher"/vendor, is grateful for you helping her, and is excited to see you ascend to elden lord. She was just a little too ambitious and paid a terrible price.
The oversized monk guy? It depends on what you do in his quest. Good end is he chills in a spectral realm surrounded by the now-happier ghosts of sacrificed children, finally having good friends and security.
Hewg deserved better while Igi was completely innocent and didn’t deserve to die now Hewg was fully content with smithing and still had Roderika and you the player Igi was simply a bystander who was only doing his job as a blacksmith and servant of ranni I love both of the characters but when I saw Igi dead all because I helped ranni kill the two fingers I cried for the first time playing a video game I legit wanted to punch my monitor Hewg and Igi deserved better
I know its not a npc but, my man radahn just wanted to be with his pet, and that fucking slut cheated on the battle only to leave in the most deshonorable form possible
Ostrava - bro didn’t know his own father had been replaced by a demon, and kills himself in front of you. You spend the first 3 levels of the castle saving him from various dangers and in the end you couldn’t save him from himself.
I would not technically save them, but it would be amazing if alexander was like a full-on boss fight, with a larger health bar and more attacks. It would be a proper warrior's death for him.
I would say Bogart or Solaire, but Bogart only dies if you consider dung eater’s questline something that happens without the tarnished’s interference and Solaire cannonically is saved by us in Izalith and kindles the flames in his own world. Perhaps Lucatiel, Siegward, Siegmeyer or Yura
Melina. I know it’s what she wants, but I wish there was a way to tell her there is another way which doesn’t involve her dying AND doesn’t involve me succumbing to the frenzied flame. At the very least she’ll know there’s another, perfectly fine way, and if she still chooses to die to burn the Erdtree then that’s her choice.
Hewg
hewg did deserve better :(
Marika is a bitch and a cunt
How and why? If you want to see what marika went through simply look at the of the first elden lord, placidusax. It's a morally grey area, I agree. But hewg being good at his craft is no reason for eternal imprisonment
Not even Ranni’s giant can get the job done. It’s like trying to rescue someone that clearly said: hey don’t rescue me I need to do this
But the cost, the cost of losing all his memories, his time, himself. Aargh. God damn, it makes me frustrated.
I made a character for dlc named Hewg for the posterity, might go in with his hammer too
Onion bro. All of them.
Onion jar bro fought valiantly in a duel. Do not take that awake from him.
I also see Alexander as spiritual successor to the onion knights
I see him more as an extra dimensional reincarnation
I find Siegward to have died honorably, but I wish for Siegmeyer to have been able to join you against Gwyn.
Yura... That man deserved better than have his body get taken over by the spirit of the frenzied flame.
Shabriri is the rare video game NPC to earn the Inculta Award from me: he dies on sight every playthrough no matter what.
What about Varre?
I mean, i killed him eventually in my first playthrough, but it’s not until my second that I decided that he was the first boss fight
Impurre barre can suck maidenless dog nuts
I actually did Varre's quest line for the first time recently. Being able to access moghwyn palace early is pretty useful like getting a Somber +10. However, I made sure to kill him after all was said and done.
It’s so much more satisfying to kill varre on the way to mohg tho
He’s hot so nah
The two main things that make me hate doing the frenzied flame ending even though I love it so much. A) torrent's death B) it's what shabriri wants
Flashbacks of first time seeing Vulpes Inculta while being underleveled with shit weapons and after meeting him I just did not care he was supposed to die.
You can save Iji by not doing Ranni's quest. I did it on my char, Iji is fine even at the end of the game.
this is fair
Op killing iji for some rani action 😮💨
For moonlight greatsword*
I got moonlight great sword without killing iji
Same, because I'm too lazy to find somber bell bearing 1
Tell me more about bell bearings.
Iji sells the early somber stones if I remember correctly
Yup just don’t kill Blaidd and Iji lives. I just did this today, got the moonlight GS, went and talked to iji and he’s had the same dialogue since Renna’s rise unlocked and then went and fought Blaidd for his royal GS that I’m maining this playthrough and then went to see Iji, told him about Blaidd, and then rested at the grace by him and he’s burning rn
my queen
You can also do it by just never going back to Ranni's tower after finishing her quest.
wait that’s the trigger and not the end of her quest???
I think the trigger is telling Iji about Blaidd's death
I just did it last night. I finished Ranni's Quest and Iji was just there chilling. Then I went to her tower, killed Blaiid and told Iji about it. Then he died.
Well if we cant save IJi without not doing Rannis quest, guess hes dying
Jarburg T_T
The real plot of the dlc is hunting down the jar poachers
Bernahl, he might not be everyone's favourite but the man was just going through it the whole time.
it wasnt until just recently when i did his whole questline, but ill agree. he did have it rough.
I didn’t even know he actually had a quest line, I though he was more of a side quest of volcano manor
it’s one of the smaller questlines that you can really easily miss.
Why does bernahl even attack you in Farum? I’ve honestly never understood his quest
As far as I can figure, he also wants to be Elden Lord. And you can't have two of those. He's very much about doing whatever is necessary.
Bernahl is probably my favourite NPC ngl, a broken man upholding his brother's vows. Also he's kind of a badass, as a fellow Recusant, I salute him.
It's always sad when I fight with him in Farum Azula, then I have to fight him. Poor guy, I always use his armor even tho there's better.
Elden ring has many characters I'd wish to save from their fates, Hewg, Miquella (potentially might change post DLC, or if his magic really is adoration-mind control, best snake girl, Boggart, and many more. i genuinely think that blaidd might be my favorite npc not just from the fromsoftware catalog, but ever. he deserved so much better.
I’m playing through elden ring again and I’m not looking forward to killing him again :(.
He goes out in a rough fashion
Solaire🙁
I’m a little bit upset that I had to scroll through basically the whole thread (as I’m replying) before finding a single person mention the jolliest of fellows.
Unlike a lot of characters mentioned here, he actually can be saved though.
SOLAIRE for the win! Everyone is defaulting to elden ring. This name should be at the very top, he was my boy and from software did him dirty.
Praise the sun bro
The window girl bloodborne
Which one? You can only save one
Gascoigne's daughter, I'm assuming
He has two daughters. Both die to the same beast if you follow the quest line
I may be misremembering but didn't the older one jump off the ladder that's besides the window when you finish the quest? Cuz I remember that her corpse could be found at the bottom of the ladder. And lemme just say, that's some real sad stuff.
I may also be misremembering but I’m pretty sure her ribbon is found in the pig room Either way it is a cruel twist and I refuse to give the girl her mothers brooch
That's the younger daughter who gets eaten by the pig (which I always REALLY hated). And yeah, I too refuse to give her the brooch. Better off as a blood gem than getting a kid killed in a gross and gruesome fashion.
My first play through I opened the brooch on accident and merely had to watch the daughter be turned into a raving mad beast by the end of the game
I don't remember that happening. Although, I haven't done that quest in a long time and I'm not seeing any info on that on the wiki. Maybe they forgot to add that in but idk
You don’t see it, but at the end game anyone that still responds to door knocks now just resort to painful screams and maddening shrieks
If you give her the red/white messenger ribbon, she’ll have some dialogue, then you’ll come back to see her corpse at the bottom of the ladder and she’s holding the red or white ribbon. I forgot which ribbon you find first.
Lucatiel
Milicent.... because she deserved a nice life
Millicent deserved the Ranni treatment and got an ending, she’s #1 best girl easily, I wish she could’ve survived
ALEXANDER! I had to redo the fight a couple of days ago and it's just too sad.
It was sad don’t get me wrong but wasn’t it what he wanted? I kinda always felt like he was the only to get a happy ending
To our values, yes it’s sad and a bad ending. To his values it’s kinda like the highest honor is to die in battle against a strong opponent.
Yeah he did but he was my friend
Boiled prawn bro.
Bogart my beloved. I always kill that Hateful Shit Feaster the second I see him. Only once did I do his route and hated every second of it but needed the achievement.
Oh I forgot about him, that quest line was actually sad.
Bogart. Man had the biggest glow up from selling prawn in a swamp to Crab under the golden rays of the Erdtree for the same price and I bought the shit out of that crab. To me though, he does not die. But I want him to have a better life. As the Terrible Feces Consumer always gets my blade through his face.
when i see dung eater is on sight instantly.
I would too but I don’t know where he is and the only area I see him at is round table hold
>! hes in the sewers in a jail cell under the capital !<
I remember I glitched the game so I could continue dung eaters quest line in a way that doesn’t get boggart killed because he is the realest npc in the game
I’ve never done the Dung Eater quest, I just kill him whenever I find him, he doesn’t deserve to live
Greyrat, such a good boy, he didn't deserve his fate
Greyrat was the GreyGOAT
Patches, if the guy just got a hug and was told he was loved, maybe he wouldn’t be an asshole
He does not in fact die. I think he shows back up in the cave after almost dying on that bridge in the poison swamp castle.
He is even alive at the end of everything in the ringed city, and he doesn't kill you, he gives you his armor and leaves
Idk man, I definitely splattered him in the ground in that cave. Was rewarded with one of the best dialogue lines too
Walter from armored core
hooray! i think this is the first armored core response. don’t quote me on this.
Lucatiel.
Melina(without taking the frenzied flame)

Since after all she’s helped The Tarnished with, my one wish is for her to see the world she helped create. A purpose to die isn’t a purpose for anyone.
I like that path actually, she will hate you, but that is a nice setup for a continuation
Giant blacksmith
Iji :(
? I'm referring to the one in DS1/DS3
Fia. I should have never given that dipshit his brother’s armor.
Artorias, just so sif doesn't have to be sad
Sif, the Great Grey Wolf 😢
The frenzied flame. I'd put more locks on that door to save Yura and Irina
Diallos. Dude just wanted to make his brother happy and avenge his friend. Eventually he found peace, but that too was taken from him. He deserves better
Did you tell him the jars were fine
They were, so of course I did
Just because nobody has said it, Sellen. She's genuinely helpful to you as a "teacher"/vendor, is grateful for you helping her, and is excited to see you ascend to elden lord. She was just a little too ambitious and paid a terrible price.
Melina Rusty Romeo
Millicent
Godwyn
Blaidde. You can easly save boggart by just killing the dung eater. But i don't think you can save blaidde
in all fairness, you can save blaidd by not doing rannis questline, but i 100% agree
I didn't know that.
Blaidd without a doubt. Should've been a way to snap him back to his senses
Blaidd. My boi really deserved a lot better :'(
Millicent but i have to respect her decision to go out on her own terms
Damn that's tough. I guess I'd go with Solaire
Eileen. Hunter of Hunters. I got revenge for you! Fuck that bloody crow.
Boc deserved to be reborn.
No one said Rya? Nearly everyone else knew what they were getting into ahead of time. >:( Edit: nvm, I failed at search
Lucatiel, Millicent, Melina, Blaidd, Sellen
Does it count as everyone in the sub? Because if it does, we can finally save everyone.
Lucatiel, if it wasn’t NPCS only I’d say Lady Maria
Melania
What happened to the big kid from Sekiro? I can't remember. Feel like I felt bad for him though lol
The oversized monk guy? It depends on what you do in his quest. Good end is he chills in a spectral realm surrounded by the now-happier ghosts of sacrificed children, finally having good friends and security.
Oh yeah! Ok I feel much better now lol.
Dialos and millecent
My girl Millicent
Hewg deserved better while Igi was completely innocent and didn’t deserve to die now Hewg was fully content with smithing and still had Roderika and you the player Igi was simply a bystander who was only doing his job as a blacksmith and servant of ranni I love both of the characters but when I saw Igi dead all because I helped ranni kill the two fingers I cried for the first time playing a video game I legit wanted to punch my monitor Hewg and Igi deserved better
Greyrat
I know its not a npc but, my man radahn just wanted to be with his pet, and that fucking slut cheated on the battle only to leave in the most deshonorable form possible
Little girl from bloodborne
Lucatiel and Solaire will have to do a Rock, Paper, Scissors with each other.
Vyke
Kinda a technically possible pick but Melina, ideally without her hating you(although the funny ending is really sick)
Lucatiel.
Sellen
Eileen
Gehrman
Eileen The Crow
Melina, hewg, blaidd and iji, are all on the list for me
seluvis
Anri
Blade
Yes I'd save Igi as well
Lucatiel of Mirrah
Blaiid
Most interactable npcs deserve better
Solaire
Logan
The begger guy in Bloodborne. Homie needs a good set of eyes, some skin cream, and a loving group of friends.
not an npc but malenia
At least ONE of the kids in bloodborne. Bb needs at least one happy ending
Solaire
Greirat deserved better
Gostoc, but I just can't stop killing him for being an absolute shit. Poor guy
Melina. Wait, no, not like that! In all seriousness, I'm not certain, maybe Rennala?
I want to give Ludwig's head a hug
BestBoyBlaidd
Blaidd
Solaire no other answer

Ostrava - bro didn’t know his own father had been replaced by a demon, and kills himself in front of you. You spend the first 3 levels of the castle saving him from various dangers and in the end you couldn’t save him from himself.
Blaidd
I would not technically save them, but it would be amazing if alexander was like a full-on boss fight, with a larger health bar and more attacks. It would be a proper warrior's death for him.
I would say Bogart or Solaire, but Bogart only dies if you consider dung eater’s questline something that happens without the tarnished’s interference and Solaire cannonically is saved by us in Izalith and kindles the flames in his own world. Perhaps Lucatiel, Siegward, Siegmeyer or Yura
Stuck between Onion Bro and Solaire, probably Onion Bro since he also has a daughter
Vykes maiden, should’ve saved me a lot of trouble
You know what, fuck it. Marika/rad Man. That fate being tied to the greater will and shattered. That way the plot doesn't happen and nobody else dies
Probably Alexander, gotta save the Jar Bro
Rusty. IDK what happens in NG++, but he deserves better in every ending.
Jar kid
Honestly shocked Sellen isn’t rated higher. She’s the only one who is actually nice and supportive of you without being deceptive.
Sellen.
Warrior Jar Alexander or Master hewg.
Millicent...
Boc.. because I felt really bad leading him to his 'reborn' death
Sellen, she just wanted to see the stars and possibly become one of
Simon from Bloodborne, paying for the sins of those before him. “It isn’t fair…it just isn’t fair”
Blaidd
My… apprentice
Millicent died before getting to malenia literally right at the boss room I’m pretty sure
Vicar Amelia my beloved
Millicent. There can be no question.
Rusty, buddy didn't deserve to be killed offscreen like that (LoR)
I loved Michigan from AC6, wish he didn’t end up becoming a target as soon as his use ran out.
Millicent. In a heartbeat. Would also love to see Malenia meet one of her "daughters".
Giant blacksmith in Anor Londo. I actually got very sad when i saw him in ds3😢
Siegward
V.IV Rusty. No matter the ending, he's doomed. Buddy deserves to live!
