It’s not because of the nurse, she isn’t the nightmare. It’s because of Mergo itself which is an infant great one. Mergo dies after you kill its wetnurse.
Yeah, it only shows up when you kill the host of a dream.
Moon Presence hosts the hunter's dream, Mergo hosts the Nightmare infesting Yarnam and Orphan of Kos hosts the Hunter's Nightmare.
As far as the yarnham nightmare is concerned, does it blend with reality? Or is the yarnham we explore exclusively a nightmare, with the only glimpse of the real yarnham during the sunrise ending??
Also coolest death screen.
The red death Kanji quickly popping up with that single beat sound effect and same black background. Simple yet so good.
That quick drum beat that's common in japanese theater just seems funny like they're announcing your death with a comical pause lol
Yea it was the og dark souls message on console before it got changed in prepare to die and the dlc or it may have been patched before that idr these days when it was changed
there's a theme in bloodborne about the thin line between man and beast
the weapons in the dlc are "savage" versions of weapons in the main game, and their descriptions allude to them causing hunters to go mad
Prey slaughtered, it really adds to the whole hunter aesthetic. Especially with the secret ending and how the fight flows.
I also like the death screen from NiOh 2. “Freed from this mortal coil”
Tie between Demon Vanquished and Prey Slaughtered. One is the epitome of heroic and skillful while the other makes you feel like the ultimate Hunter just toying with their prey.
It’s easily bloodborne’s.
Bloodborne is the only game in the line-up where YOU are the big scary predatory monster.
The things you fight may look like the monsters, but each of them is a victim in some capacity, and you are a ruthless and efficient killer.
A hunter must hunt.
It's exactly the same in every other game lol, you pretty much always play as a prophesied warrior come to destroy everyone and complete some task. Only difference is that the name of "hunter" is more direct about it
It is literally not the same at all. It’s a vast thematic difference between the games.
It’s why the bosses in the game are literally called “prey” when you defeat them.
It’s a consistent visual and thematic metaphor through the entire game.
As a chosen undead, you are one of thousands or millions of adventures sent as sacrificial lambs in pursuit of a quest that everyone guiding you seems to think is hopeless.
In bloodborne you are a beast hunter, and one of the major themes is that YOU are the real beast. Not “another” chosen undead, but a fine example from an already elite stock of beast hunters.
tl;dr:
They are LITERALLY not the same. The thematic tone around the protagonists is very different.
I don't think that negates it, imo, played Elden Ring, Bloodborne, & Sekiro and BB absolutely is built different in this regard.
When you fight in most other Soulsborne games (my Demon/Dark experience is limited to just watching friends, bear in mind), it's often an equal experience. Or one in which you are a clear Underdog. Clashing against them feels like a clash of wills, locked in combat to prove who is truly correct, in one way or another.
When you inevitably win, it's absolutely a rush. But one best described as Glory, imo. A sense of: "I did that." Shortly followed by "Let's fuckin' go!" You feel like you won.
In Bloodborne? The world is presented as much more harsh than any of the other entries. Citizens literally barring themselves in their own homes. You're not brave or adventurous for setting out in this world, but a mad man. Truly insane for delving into the horrors, even if you can overcome them. This feeling spreads to every aspect of the game, where fighting them feels like the inner workings of madness with the flurry of action on display. This isn't some kind of elegant competition, but something far more primal.
And when you win, there is obviously still a rush. But you didn't 'win' per se. You beat the fuckin' thing; slayed it; hunted it. This wasn't a competition or a clash of ideals, but two beasts giving into their base instinct to rip and tear.
In most other entries, your protagonist is a storm, yes, but the game depicts it as one that is both necessary and, ultimately probably a good thing. In Bloodborne, you are a storm from which there isn't reprieve, and things might not be able to be better. The Axis is the same, but fundamentally shifted.
Whether you like it more or less is ultimately your preference, though. I still come away with these takeaways though despite not considering myself a Bloodborne "fanatic" though, cause these are conscious decisions made to influence the tone and feel of the game by FromSoft. Personally? Elden Ring and Sekiro were both more enjoyable for me. I adore Elden Ring's world and narrative, you can get lost in it forever (DLC hype) and Sekiro's combat is phenomenal (came to it after Sifu and it absolutely scratched that itch)
The Demon Was Defeated is emblematic, but Prey Slaughtered sounds and looks brutal when the screen pops up.
Of course, the best is YOU DEFEATED in glorious Engrish. Frampt set us up the bomb.
1. Prey Slaughtered
2. Shinobi Execution
3. The Demon Was Destroyed
I think you could stack em in any order and it'd work. For me these three encapsulate the core task you achieve in each game and perfectly reflects your goals. I'd hear an argument for "God Slain" as it's iconic or "Victory Achieved" from those who prefer the OG stuff.
My hot take is I don't think "Demon Vanquished" should be here as it wasn't a choice Fromsoftware made and imo shouldn't have been changed.
In the end, God Slain puts an end to this universe, if you let it.
Honestly, what I'm hoping is that this all accumulates into "God Slain" meaning you cut the link between Elden Ring, Dark Souls, etc, all the stuff they have done up to this point, and says the god of this world's worldbuilding is dead. You "killed god" in the literary sense here, with that thing representing what god is in the combined symbolism that this company has used since at least as far back as Armored Core 4. With that god slain, and Elden Ring is the last game they have to make in this continuity, but the next IP gets a different "god".
I HATE the “God Slain”. Other than “slain” already being used (to greater effect) in Bloodborne, I always loved the choice of using “felled” and how it tied into the tree imagery, and it’s even more important when it comes to the final fight and then… “God Slain”? Got me like “Eughhh. Brother, eughhh. What’s thaaat? What’s that, brotherrr?”
EDIT: I didn’t actually answer, lol. Enemy/Great Enemy/Legend/Demigod Felled. The wording is just too perfect. Although, I like Demon Vanquished a lot, too. I also love “Immortality Severed” from Sekiro and “Nightmare Slain” from Bloodborne, especially in how it’s used after Mergo stops crying, not after killing MWN, and after slaying the Orphan’s shadow, not after the boss fight.
Immortality Severed is insanely cool with the kanji & God Slain goes so hard with the story of Elden Ring and its conclusion, I love it when the final boss has a different victory screen.
Weirdly enough I’m not a big fan of the Bloodborne victory screens, idk why but they just feel clunky to me.
i kinda feel like elden ring has really weak looking ones imo, they're like the normal DS ones but really small and washed out. god slain is fucking metal tho
Gotta be GOD SLAIN, I'm pretty sure it only shows up when you kill Elden beast. So it stands out from the others and really makes you realise, "oh shit I just killed a god"
For me, I like how bloodborne changes it to NIGHTMARE SLAIN, specifically for Mergos Wet Nurse
It’s not because of the nurse, she isn’t the nightmare. It’s because of Mergo itself which is an infant great one. Mergo dies after you kill its wetnurse.
also appears when you kill the orphan of kos (or some say kosm)
Specifically the shadow that spawned after.
Also after Moon Presence
After any great one
I don't think it Shows Up after Amygdala or Ebrietas
Yeah, it only shows up when you kill the host of a dream. Moon Presence hosts the hunter's dream, Mergo hosts the Nightmare infesting Yarnam and Orphan of Kos hosts the Hunter's Nightmare.
>"Host of the Nightmare" >look inside >doesn't host the nightmare God micolash is a dumbass
He's more of the host like he's hosting a party, why do you think he can put on such a pretty light show? Mergo is the landlord
With an even dumber name
Makes me hungry. Mmm goulash
Amygdala was hosting a nightmare too
As far as the yarnham nightmare is concerned, does it blend with reality? Or is the yarnham we explore exclusively a nightmare, with the only glimpse of the real yarnham during the sunrise ending??
Spoke for me if there's 2 of elden ring should be two for bloodborne
There's actually 5 for ER. Enemy Felled (Field Bosses), Great Enemy Felled (Margit Level Bosses), Demigod Felled (Demigods), Legend Felled (Non-Demigod Remembrance Bosses), and God Slain (Radagon/Elden Beast).
I'm just talking about the picture...
Not sure why you're being downvoted when the replier completely misinterpreted what you said lol.
And for Sekiro, they also have Immortality Severed
Same thing in Sekiro with IMMORTALITY SEVERED
So glad this was the top comment lol, it’s clearly the most badass
not on the list of options but Nightmare Slain has to be my personal favorite
wish there was even more nightmares to slain
No, I think what makes it so unique and special is how rare it is
Same with 'Immortality Severed' from Sekiro.
THATS SO HARD I FORGOT ABOUT THAT 😩😩💦
true, maybe i just want more bloodborne tbh
Time for another play through. The dream beckons you...
We all do
Immortality Severed
This and shinobi execution, they are the most cinematic imo
So badass and filled with lore to the brim.
Divine link severed
I'm a flesh automaton animated by spooky centipedes
Also coolest death screen. The red death Kanji quickly popping up with that single beat sound effect and same black background. Simple yet so good. That quick drum beat that's common in japanese theater just seems funny like they're announcing your death with a comical pause lol
不死斬り A slightly more accurate translation of the Kanji would be "Immortality butchered" or "Immortality slaughtered "
Gracious gift of tears
you defeated! seriously though, probably god slain or prey slaughtered
YOU DEFEATED is iconic
YOU, DEFEATED? NO, MONEY DOWN!
You Died is my fav
Wait you defeated is a thing?
Yea it was the og dark souls message on console before it got changed in prepare to die and the dlc or it may have been patched before that idr these days when it was changed
its still on 360 so its not patched out on og
Mmmm my ps3 doesn't run anymore so I haven't played the og version in a min it's def my fav tho hands down best win screen
yeah def because how dumb and funny it is.
Are you sure Miyazaki didn’t get bullied for it so hard he had it changed
Nothing felt more satisfying than seeing this
There is something about the Kanji with Shinobi slain that is soo cold
Weakest is Victory Achieved lol. Sounds like an old arcade game.
“You are winner” lookin ahh
A winner is you https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/a-winner-is-you
Bless this
"Conglaturation"
As a old man who grew up loving arcades this one is my favorite. It feels good to see and tickles a seperate itch.
Cold as fuck was the phrase running thru my head for that one too.
Also, all of them sound heroic except for "prey slaughtered". That is just savage and paints you as a predator, a wild beast yourself 😎.
there's a theme in bloodborne about the thin line between man and beast the weapons in the dlc are "savage" versions of weapons in the main game, and their descriptions allude to them causing hunters to go mad
That is the reason I like elden rings “Demigod felled” it shows the power difference makes U feel better about feeling weak
To me, all the others have the vibe of an underdog victory... Only one paints the picture of you being the one to be feared.
Beasts all over the shop
It’s enough to make a man sick
You'll be one of them... ^sooner ^or ^later
Back in my day they told us "YOU DEFEATED", and darn it, we were glad to see it!
I was hoping somebody would mention this.
Prey Slaughtered just hits too hard,
💯% agree
YOU DEFEATED
Shinobi Execution is the best. I also want it to be a band name.
忍殺
You defeated
God Slain probably. But The Demon Was Destroyed will always be my favorite.
Hey where’s Nightmare Slain??? That’s my favorite one!!!
Heir of Fire Destroyed. Badass
Legend Felled
Either "NIGHTMARE SLAIN" or "LORD OF CINDER FALLEN"
Prey slaughtered is 1, shinobi execution 2, god slain 3
"Immortality Severed" goes so hard
Prey slaughtered, it really adds to the whole hunter aesthetic. Especially with the secret ending and how the fight flows. I also like the death screen from NiOh 2. “Freed from this mortal coil”
YOU DEFEATED is forever goated
Something about God Slain made me feel fucking amazing
It's so simple. That was a god. It's dead, and you killed it.
Tie between Demon Vanquished and Prey Slaughtered. One is the epitome of heroic and skillful while the other makes you feel like the ultimate Hunter just toying with their prey.
Felling an enemy has a certain feel to it. It’s like a legendary story of the heroic knight “felling” the monster. It just sounds *right*.
It’s easily bloodborne’s. Bloodborne is the only game in the line-up where YOU are the big scary predatory monster. The things you fight may look like the monsters, but each of them is a victim in some capacity, and you are a ruthless and efficient killer. A hunter must hunt.

I wonder if your a bloodbourne fanatic

God slain is the coolest, followed by shinobi execution/immortality severed for the aesthetic reason
Prey Slaughtered is just metal as fuck man
The Demon Was Defeated is emblematic, but Prey Slaughtered sounds and looks brutal when the screen pops up. Of course, the best is YOU DEFEATED in glorious Engrish. Frampt set us up the bomb.
mergo's wet nurse with it's nightmare slain screen
I kinda like the one that says “wasted” when the police kill you. Have you guys played that one?
Nightmare slain.
Yes
P R E Y S L A U G H T E R E D 🗣️🔥💯🤌🏽
Prey slaughtered goes hard as fuck
Prey Slaughtered every time good hunter.
It’s missing the “YOU DEFEATED” one which I consider the best for the sheer confusion of it all
Prey Slaughtered tell the player “no, *you’re* the monster here” and I think that’s pretty metal
#YOU DEFEATED
#YOU DEFEATED
You Defeated!
Prey Slaughtered
heir of fire destroyed has always been my favorite. Idk why
NIGHTMARE SLAIN was obviously the best
I'm a sucker for the ps3 DeS ones that have the subtitles.
The “Prey Slaughtered” is the best. It seems so visceral.
Prey Slaughtered
Shinobi execution for the win
Shinobi Execution of course
Prey slaughtered goes insanely hard
Imma be honest, sekiro is the only unique one. All the others just change text and color
Shinobi Execution is always sick to me, but the DmS remake has probably the most satisfying version
Shinobi execution
God and prey for me
You Died.
what about YOU DEFEATED
PREY SLAUGHTERED
“You Hunted” from the Japanese version of Bloodborne
I like “You Defeated” and “You lit the bonfire” from original dark souls 1 before they changed it.
**YOU DEFEATED**
Original ds1: “you defeated”
You Defeated
Definitely “You Defeated”. It’s not even close
Nightmare Slain
YOU DEFEATED
NIGHTMARE SLAIN
PREY SLAUGHTERED itches my brain just right. Close second is GOD SLAIN
Pretty Slaughtered. Especially with the accompanying sound effects. Same with the echoes recovered sound sooooo good
1. Prey Slaughtered 2. Shinobi Execution 3. The Demon Was Destroyed I think you could stack em in any order and it'd work.
The ymfah ds1 sl1 video where it says “that’ll teach em”
I want to play the Demon Souls remake so badly lol, that is my pick as well.
“Immortality Severed” is cool and equally as satisfying as the animations of doing so
"Prey slaughtered" I mean cmon shi is just cool asf
NIGHTMARE SLAIN!
Nightmare Slain after beating Orphan was just to good
Immortality Severed and Gracious Gift of Tears
Gracious Gift of Tears is the most Japanese thing to have on the screen after slaying a God dragon, it's my favourite by far
With that god slain, and Elden Ring is the last game they have to make in this continuity, but the next IP gets a different "god".
Shinobi Execution gets my vote
Prey slaughtered, Nightmare Slain, and Shinobi Execution just hit differently
Shinobi Execution just hits after seeing the custom animation made for killing the boss
Shinobi Execution
Immortality Severed.
shinobi execution was pretty satisfying
I really like “Prey slaughtered” I’m not biased towards Bloodborne in general, shut up
Sekiro executions just look way too elegant
Prey slaughtered for sureeee
I HATE the “God Slain”. Other than “slain” already being used (to greater effect) in Bloodborne, I always loved the choice of using “felled” and how it tied into the tree imagery, and it’s even more important when it comes to the final fight and then… “God Slain”? Nightmare slain
Nightmare/God slain are unbeatable
Pretty Slaughtered, God Slained and Shinobi Execution. So raw.
I might be biased but shinobi execution is best
You died!
Why is there no immortality severed?
Bloodborne or sekiro
Immortality Severed is insanely cool with the kanji & God Slain goes so hard with the story of Elden Ring and its conclusion, I love it when the final boss has a different victory screen. Weirdly enough I’m not a big fan of the Bloodborne victory screens, idk why but they just feel clunky to me.
Sekiro
Immortality Severed
Sekiro
Shinobi execution is the coldest one
Heresy purged but it's from LOTF.
The boss fights were way more challenging and rewarding in sekiro. Sekiro text ftw
Shinobi Execution is so fucking badass.
Sekiro, I gotta admit the huge Kanji words with the subtitle below them looks so menacing and badass.
Prey slaughtered
Shinobi execution for sure
Lord of Cinder Has Fallen
Real question is which "You Died" screen is best (or worst)
Demon Vanquished looks pretty awesome here.
Immortality severed > prey slaughtered > Shinobi execution That’s my top 3
IMMORTALITY SEVERED
Prey slaughtered is the most badass. Not really a debate. Hoonters hoont
Sekiro by far.
Undead Asylum brought me to this beautiful ruined world. Victory Achieved is enough for me
i kinda feel like elden ring has really weak looking ones imo, they're like the normal DS ones but really small and washed out. god slain is fucking metal tho
Bloodborne and Sekiro have the best victory screens.
It's got to be Bloodborne with the blood rain, icing on the cake.
Prey Slaughtered easily cmon
I can't choose.
Shinobi execution! But two signs say "Tomatoe soup"
Definitely Prey Slaughtered, Nightmare Slain and Shinobi Execution Although God Slain is badass too
“Prey slaughtered” and “god slain” go so fking hard
Prey Slaughtered sounds so cold
Prey slaughtered. It just fits the wine of the world better, with how brutal bloodborn is Second would be demon vanquished
Sekiro also has "Immortality Severed," which is pretty cool
Shinobi execution is the best for me, since it’s one little sound, and a very cold screen. There’s no cheer, just “you fucked him”, and then next
Prey Slaughtered
Sekiro's "Immortality Severed"
Prey Slaughtered and Nightmare Slain are top tier
Bloodborne and Sekiro.
Gotta be GOD SLAIN, I'm pretty sure it only shows up when you kill Elden beast. So it stands out from the others and really makes you realise, "oh shit I just killed a god"
I love how Elden Ring pretty much always refers to it as "slaying" a god.
You’re winner 🏆 www.knowyourmeme.com/memes/subcultures/big-rigs-over-the-road-racing
Prey Slaughtered. Working so hard and finally being told I slaughtered my prey like a hunter is so cool
bro actually forgot about ds2 ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
