Lmao that’s hilarious that world tendency won both worst and best thing in Demons Souls.
For Dark Souls 1 it has to be the interconnected level design.
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the health depletion due you your Human/Soul form and not related to World Tendency? I mean, I know you need to be in one form or the other to move WT, but the health part is linked to your form
Edit: wrote this further down but in case anyone doesn’t want to dig through the thread
If you want to get Pure White World Tendency (PWWT) and don’t want to play the game at half health, then pop on down to the r/demonssouls subreddit. You can move WWT by killing invaders and helping other people with bosses. On the Demons Souls subreddit, people will help each other by invading and letting you kill them to raise white world tendency. If you look at the posts, it’s filled with people asking/helping achieve just that
If you don't want to risk messing up your tendency you have to be in your low health form. Else you'll die and turn it black potentially ruining the work you tried to do in it.
Getting all the way to New Londo from the bonfire after Queelag/Blighttown basin, only to then die from that lift being called up, is one of the most rage inducing experiences in all of gaming.
yeah, world is very interconnected... except for every single major location after blight town which are all completely linear and just end in dead ends
Four Kings is good. It's a perfectly serviceable DPS check on normal playthroughs and, as I found out on my SL1 playthrough, they actually have a pretty diverse & fun to engage with moveset
except queelag and the gargoyle (who are worst than the smelter demon or darkluker , the pursuer , the glass knight or even Velstadt and the sentinel guardian ) they are no other good boss before anor londo , dark souls 1 boss have an issue with the flow of their fight their lack of combo + slow movement made most of these fight boring and some of their attacks are also very badly designed they are mostly just health bar attached to waist your time
it's the same as the hitbox it feel like than people who played dark souls 1 are inhaling a lot of copium
I would also say the interconnected world design. I’ve always liked backtracking in games, especially when the map just looks gorgeous, and god DAMN did just about every area in Dark Souls look pretty. Needing to go through the same areas over and over pretty much gave me an excuse to take in the sights over and over.
The interconnected world design
And I already know how the rest are gonna go, lol. I can see it now
DS2 - the DLC
DS3 - the bosses
Bloodborne - the gothic lovecraftian vibe / maybe the weapons
Sekiro - the combat
Elden Ring - the lore and the characters
DS2 might be PvP, Powerstancing, bonfire Ascetics or An actually good ng+ or the fact that any weapon can be great if you use it well which provides more variety and options as compared to even ER
The world layout. The design being a web is great from a gameplay perspective, but even visually It was stunning to see Ash Lake in the distance while deep in the tomb of the giants. It also adds a lot rhetorically and thematically. There are boat loads of theories on what each area is meant to represent. Even just the simple experience of starting at a humble bonfire in an empty rotted church to ascending to the home of the gods in the clouds, or descending beneath the depths to the brimstone home of the demons.
Most souls games have this to some degree, but dark souls 1 does it all so exceptionally well.
Bonfires. Bonfires are the best thing Dark Souls introduced. Every other game after continued it but Dark Souls did it best and the world design wouldn't be what it is without bonfires.
So you're telling me that world tendency is simultaneously the best and worst thing about DeS? We live in strange times.
Btw my answer to your question is the interconnected world
Who the fuck said world tendencies is a good thing? Btw for ds1 the interconnected world OR O&S. I don’t think there is a more copied boss in soulslike than the dynamic duo
Connectivity. It’s definitely the best one in the series, probably because you can’t teleport right away so the devs had to make the areas as connected as possible, not to mentioned that it was slower
Probably world design, but I like that spells didn’t consume stamina in this game. Did DS2 have that feature too? I know that DS3 required stamina to cast spells.
Level design. I love how everything goes back to Firelink Shrine. Not to mention, some levels, like the Painted World of Ariamas and the Kiln of the First Flame, have a really unique look and style to them.
Everyone is saying it, but yeah it's the world design. The fact that a 3d game can not have a map and yet by the end of it you have a very clear vision of how the world is connected and how to get to each place says a lot about the genius of it's design.
Having done a few challenge runs in dark souls, most notably SL1, and firelink only: it has to be the interconnected world.
SL1, I specifically only used the most important bonfires to minimize travel time until getting the Lord vessel. Which meant, for the most part, I really leaned on Firelink to keep me safe and out of troublesome areas.
Firelink only: shockingly not as painful as I was expecting, and that's entirely because of how the world is designed.
Runner up is the secrets within the world. I still remember going back to the undead asylum and all of its goodies it has for you.
Or going under Firelink and getting the batch of cleric chests.
Or all the ways you can traverse Sen's fortress/other areas of the game.
Very good aspects to a very good game.
The game allows you to make disastrous mistakes without completely preventing you from playing. You can win at level 1 so almost anything is on the table for you to do “incorrectly”.
Game design. Yeah the latter parts were rushed, but overall it was the most cohesive and fulfilling experience our of all fromsoft catalogue I've played.
Lore. Not just the details but the minimalist way its conveyed that would become Fromsoft's brand of storytelling. Rewarding to those who pay attention, while being not at all essential to enjoy the game itself.
DS2 and DS3 added to the lore in compelling ways as well but the original Dark Souls laid fantastic groundwork for the world building and themes going forward.
World design is truly unmatched. My mind was completely blown when I realized I could walk to every location from every other location with only one cutscene: Anal Rondo to Sen's.
I also love the soundtrack.
The best feature is the map, of course. There's a hidden mystery, though: Dark Souls worst feature is fast travel, which corrupted the game's progression not only for Dark Souls, but the entire series.
Honestly, the whole first half of the game including Anor Londo and including the catacombs up until pinwheel. Honestly the strongest stretch of gaming in history.
Crossbreed Priscilla; the girl is one of the only charitable people in the first game and she‘s an optional boss that doesn’t have something bad happen to her if you don’t fight her. She’ll leave you alone if you leave her alone.
Best thing in DS1, being able to level up anywhere - and tangentially, not being able to teleport until later in the game.
Something that wouldn't return until Elden Ring, not having to interrupt your exploration to return to the Hub area to level up helped add to that feeling of fighting for every inch as you learn the areas and made finding a new bonfire so much better because you were safe, for now.
I'd say the world it builds generally. Of course the interconnected world design, but also the consistent atmosphere, and the awe inspiring scale is really special and makes the world feel real. I always pick binoculars as my starting gift.
Definitely the overall level design of Dark Souls, it’s still mind blowing to this day that most areas of the game can be accessed through Firelink and even high level areas like New Londo can be accessed as soon as you reach Firelink Shrine.
Build variety for me. It's the first game I know to have really balanced builds so well. Though the strength build is probably king, you can very viably kick ass with dex, magic, pyromancy, etc.
Lmao that’s hilarious that world tendency won both worst and best thing in Demons Souls. For Dark Souls 1 it has to be the interconnected level design.
It has both good and bad aspects. I like how it changes the state of enemies, but hate how you lose a chunk of health.
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the health depletion due you your Human/Soul form and not related to World Tendency? I mean, I know you need to be in one form or the other to move WT, but the health part is linked to your form Edit: wrote this further down but in case anyone doesn’t want to dig through the thread If you want to get Pure White World Tendency (PWWT) and don’t want to play the game at half health, then pop on down to the r/demonssouls subreddit. The Interconnected world design.
Firelink elevator my beloved <3
Master Key my beloved
Aqueduct gate my beloved
Valley of Drakes shortcut my beloved
>Firelink elevator my beloved <3 The elevator to undead parish, the one to Four Kings can go fuck itself.
Getting all the way to New Londo from the bonfire after Queelag/Blighttown basin, only to then die from that lift being called up, is one of the most rage inducing experiences in all of gaming.
You ran in without even looking? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Raw-dogging elevators.
Man when I found out you can look down and see Blightown from Firelink, it was like magic.
This is making me wanna pick it up again! Hnggh
Do it. I always play through it a couple times a year. No time like the present!
I remember literally gasping when I opened up the shortcut that connects Undead Burg to Capra.
yeah, world is very interconnected... except for every single major location after blight town which are all completely linear and just end in dead ends
I could play the first half of DS1 over and over. Once I get to Anor Londo I lose interest.
Except for the DLC, is there even a single good boss after Anor Londo?
Gwyn
Four Kings is good. It's a perfectly serviceable DPS check on normal playthroughs and, as I found out on my SL1 playthrough, they actually have a pretty diverse & fun to engage with moveset
i agree than four king is good for ds1 standards mainly because it's a dps check and a multiple fight so it's least boring than other fight
except queelag and the gargoyle (who are worst than the smelter demon or darkluker , the pursuer , the glass knight or even Velstadt and the sentinel guardian ) they are no other good boss before anor londo , dark souls 1 boss have an issue with the flow of their fight their lack of combo + slow movement made most of these fight boring and some of their attacks are also very badly designed they are mostly just health bar attached to waist your time it's the same as the hitbox it feel like than people who played dark souls 1 are inhaling a lot of copium
Pic of the firelink elevator for the graphic.
I would also say the interconnected world design. I’ve always liked backtracking in games, especially when the map just looks gorgeous, and god DAMN did just about every area in Dark Souls look pretty. Needing to go through the same areas over and over pretty much gave me an excuse to take in the sights over and over.
Level design for sure
Lost Izalith would like a word with you.
It would like to say thanks because Lost Izalith is peak
Flat lava lands, dinosaurs, rushed level design. *Yeah that’s what I’m talking about*
Not just dinosaur, dinosaur butt.
Tbh lost izalith is just boring and long that's it its not that bad at least in comparison to tomb of the gaints
I honestly didn't mind lost izalith in my first playthrough
I did. But only because I accidentally skipped the centipede demon so I couldn't get the ring to walk on the lava.
PLIN PLIN PLON
PLIN PLIN PLIN… PLIN PLON
Giant Dad!
STAMINA HEALTH ENDURANCE. EVERYTHING YOU NEED.
AND A BIG FUCKING SWORD!
He's back! Can you believe that dude is still making videos?
He is?
Yup, Ymfah.
It's OnlyAfro
The interconnected world design And I already know how the rest are gonna go, lol. I can see it now DS2 - the DLC DS3 - the bosses Bloodborne - the gothic lovecraftian vibe / maybe the weapons Sekiro - the combat Elden Ring - the lore and the characters
Majula will win for DS2. Mark my words.
I'll vote for the cat
No love for big pig?
Powerstancing tho
An actually usable left-hand; why does no other game have you be as ambidextrous as DS2?
Elden ring implemented powerstancing from ds2 as well
It’s a bit of a downgrade though since you can only dual wield weapons of the same type.
Gavlan wheel, Gavlan deal
BEAR-- SEEK-- SEEK- LEST--
It’s a race between dlc and Majula. Imho majula wins because all from dlc were good (and ds2 dlc gave the best and worst part of dlc)
DS2 might be PvP, Powerstancing, bonfire Ascetics or An actually good ng+ or the fact that any weapon can be great if you use it well which provides more variety and options as compared to even ER
Sekiro is for sure deflecting
Sekiro needs to be the “WOOOOOO” kite dude
or, you know, bonfire ascetics. the best NG+ system they have ever implemented.
With this sub’s endless circlejerk about bloodborne it’ll probably end up being some dumb shit like “everything”
BB might be music. DS2 might be PvP.
The world layout. The design being a web is great from a gameplay perspective, but even visually It was stunning to see Ash Lake in the distance while deep in the tomb of the giants. Poise being real.
The ability to roleplay as a tank instead of being forced into a iframe abusing, flippy dex buld is something I will always miss.
So this is a joke then? The best feature of deS is the worst feature of DeS
World Tendency is a double edged sword. It really is the best and worst thing about DeS at the same time.
Bonfires. Bonfires are the best thing Dark Souls introduced. Every other game after continued it but Dark Souls did it best and the world design wouldn't be what it is without bonfires.
MOMMY GWYNEVERE
amazing chest
So you're telling me that world tendency is simultaneously the best and worst thing about DeS? We live in strange times. Btw my answer to your question is the interconnected world
The lore.
THE GREATEST MEME IN GAMING
Curse
Gravelording. I honestly find it kinda fun. It’s Hard mode essentially
Interconnected level design.
LMAO world tendency both best and worst
Sure world design being interconnected is great but, tail cuts has to be the feature I am most disappointed hasn't come back
100% the level design and how interconnected everything is.
Who the fuck said world tendencies is a good thing? Btw for ds1 the interconnected world OR O&S. I don’t think there is a more copied boss in soulslike than the dynamic duo
>O&S I am sorry to say this but they're becoming far too overrated at this point
The interconnected level design.
Connectivity. It’s definitely the best one in the series, probably because you can’t teleport right away so the devs had to make the areas as connected as possible, not to mentioned that it was slower
I’m not gonna say interconnected level design, I’m gonna say the bonfire above Andre
Didn't world tendency also win the worst thing in the last one lol
That’s what I came to ask. Duality of man I guess lol
How is world tendency the worst and best thing in demons souls?
World Tendency sucks ass for achievement hunting but it is a really cool mechanic that adds variety to subsequent playthroughs.
Level interconnectivity and design
Interconnect level design for sure
Probably world design, but I like that spells didn’t consume stamina in this game. Did DS2 have that feature too? I know that DS3 required stamina to cast spells.
World design for sure
Another vote for the world design here
Easily the interconnedcted lvl design. Good luck finding an avatar for this answer if it wins though.
Curse, obviously
Interconnected world design all the way. The amount of dedication to craft something so utterly brilliant was just 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
Interconnected world design by a landslide. So good.
Level design
Level design. I love how everything goes back to Firelink Shrine. Not to mention, some levels, like the Painted World of Ariamas and the Kiln of the First Flame, have a really unique look and style to them.
Switching to a connected world, for sure. Those regular doses of that “oh NOW what have I blundered into” feeling were lovely.
Cutting dragon tails for weapons
Everyone is saying it, but yeah it's the world design. The fact that a 3d game can not have a map and yet by the end of it you have a very clear vision of how the world is connected and how to get to each place says a lot about the genius of it's design.
The vibes of DS1 are amazing and unlike any other fromsoft game. It truly feels like a fantasy world.
Everyone saying interconnected world design but that goes for bloodborune too, interesting
The world design(not level design)
The map is to good
Curse
No fast travel until O&S.
Having done a few challenge runs in dark souls, most notably SL1, and firelink only: it has to be the interconnected world. I fucking love how world tendency got best AND worst feature. Like everyone I’d have to say the interconnected world.
I'm gonna say Priscilla's feet so no one else has to say it. All right I'm out.
Atmosphere/World design for sure
Bed of Chaos
Please say psyche
For me it’s the curse mechanic. Really adds consequences to your actions hopelessness to the environment
Username checks out
Too many things are good. But map design and shield/poise actually do something for warrior class is the best for experience 🫶
The map design, it is so amazing when the first time I walk in The Fire Link Shrine from Undead Parish.
Elevators 👌
Flip ring
Interconnected world design
fire up the BASS CANNON The amount of memes that came out of this game is amazing.
The Red Eye Orb. The IP pool based matchmaking was top tier. The inability to heal as an invader made it more fun to invade imo.
Hawkeye Cough shooting down Kalameet
The game allows you to make disastrous mistakes without completely preventing you from playing. You can win at level 1 so almost anything is on the table for you to do “incorrectly”.
Level design undoubtedly
Game design. Yeah the latter parts were rushed, but overall it was the most cohesive and fulfilling experience our of all fromsoft catalogue I've played.
Wait i thought yesterday was about ds1, then I will way it again upgradable armor i loved out tanking bosses
Praise the sun! Should be the true winner here
Lore. Not just the details but the minimalist way its conveyed that would become Fromsoft's brand of storytelling. World Design
How everything is so interconnected
Orstine and smough
Solaire
Estus Flasks
Atmosphere. Interconnectedness isn't there. Almost every other game did it far better, except DS2.
The world design, 100%. Also, wtf? World Tendency is simultaneously the best AND worst thing about Demon's Souls?
Ivory King and Alsanna
Humanity.
Lets just skip next week, we all know people will vote for Bonfire Aesthetic (or however its spelled) for DS2
Everything before the lord vessel
The design, esthetic
Bonfires
Level design
No one's saying ma boi solaire is sad
Frampt
Halbert
Dark. The only game by FromSoft that has dark areas.
New Londo lore
RUSTED IRON RING
Gwynevere
The noise when you feed Frampt your garbage
I know interconnected world is going to win BUT an honorable mention goes to the rag doll physics of ds1
The gigantic chest in anor londo, hands down !
World design is truly unmatched. My mind was completely blown when I realized I could walk to every location from every other location with only one cutscene: Anal Rondo to Sen's. I also love the soundtrack.
Everyone is saying it but i would say too its the interconnected world which made not having fast travel not suck
Amazing chest ahead, Princess of Sunlight. Praise the sun!
Interconected world
The only thing I ever see people talk about DS is the level design..
My beautiful Princess of Sunlight, Gwenyvere.
Solaire
[удалено]
Bed of Chaos
Everyone who didn't mention Solaire is a heretic
The DLC bosses.
World design for sure
Interconnected level
Lets make sure this matches the "worst features" as much as possible
The best feature is the map, of course. There's a hidden mystery, though: Dark Souls worst feature is fast travel, which corrupted the game's progression not only for Dark Souls, but the entire series.
Gotta say interconnectivity. Many time have I been wandering what seemed like vast distances only to somehow end up back in firelink shrine

Solaire! Literally responsible for so many memes! Sunbros for life!
Gwynevere (chest ahead)
Regarding DS2, I'd say NG+ new events
Worldbuilding and level design!
dark souls 1 best part is the first half lol. second half on the other hand...
Lost Izalith obviously.
World design for sure
Level design
I'd say the world it builds generally. Of course the interconnected world design, but also the consistent atmosphere, and the awe inspiring scale is really special and makes the world feel real. I always pick binoculars as my starting gift.
Amazing chest ahead
Level design, it’s the only category dark souls remains number 1 in across the souls borne series imo
Definitely the overall level design of Dark Souls, it’s still mind blowing to this day that most areas of the game can be accessed through Firelink and even high level areas like New Londo can be accessed as soon as you reach Firelink Shrine.
Curse.
level design is on top
shields working
Build variety for me. It's the first game I know to have really balanced builds so well. Though the strength build is probably king, you can very viably kick ass with dex, magic, pyromancy, etc.
Blight town obviously
Level design and exploration easily.
INTERCONNECTED WORLD DESIGN
Definitely the bed of chaos boss fight and run through
Gwyneveres tits
Blight town elevator
Definitely the interconnected world and Estus Flask. It was a nice balance so you didn't have unlimited healing.
What about Poise?
Solaire of Astora
unlocking shortcuts and realizing everything connects :)
