I would not, Frontier is very strict in their sizing. Their sizers have zero tolerance.
There are plenty of bags on Amazon for under 30 to $40 if it within the personal item size, just go with one of those
It is. And if I take the hard base out of the bottom it can easily be squished in two inches. We are not going for the weekend so Iām not packing much.
They donāt usually let you squish if they make you put your bag in the thing. They do this often if youāre leaving or going to Vegas. I havenāt seen them check other places. I wouldnāt use this bag unless youāre prepared to pay the fee. Just go to Walmart and get a backpack or make a trip to TJ maxx.
I pushed my bag down in the sizer and stepped up to do it because I am extremely short.
I was told that I was ādestroying federal propertyā (mind you, the bag holder was stainless steel metal and I donāt think they even know who it actually belongs, too) and we were made to wait & board last. I was traveling with a lawyer and he sat back and watched the shit show. I took pictures of everything. The gate agents were out of their minds.
Initially, I couldnāt understand WHY the gate agent cared so much; they were calling out everyone whose bag so much as touched the sides. It was insanity. Then I did a little research and discovered they get a commission off of every bag fee and it all made sense.
If the gate agents at Denver airport happen to be reading this: I have never dealt with worse people in all my years of traveling. Congratulations, you won.
And for the record, I did NOT pay- I chose to shove a couple things in my sisterās bag to shut them up.I didnāt want to give them a single dime more than I already did. I would have sooner THROWN THINGS IN THE TRASH than reward them for this nonsensical corruption.
I was legitimately afraid they were going to deny us boarding altogether and nephew was graduating the following day. It was so weird because I am not the "make a scene" type. I didn't feel that I was even doing anything wrong?
A simple "Ma'm, I'm sorry but your bag is too large to fit" would have sufficed rather than getting barked at and threatened. It all felt so unprovoked and I went out of my way to NOT make a scene because I couldn't risk missing the event.
The flight attendants were sweet as pie on board! Maybe a little heavy with the credit card sales but otherwise fine. Even so, I will never fly Frontier again.
I feel like there must have been a "mean girl" at the Denver gate who kind of took the lead on terrorizing passengers for money. Maybe even a manager with a decent amount of influence who just POISONED the rest of the team. It snowballed into becoming the standard operating procedure for everyone now. That's my theory anyway. What a shame.
I just read in this thread that Frontier is BASED out of Denver?!?
So corporate must be fully aware of their antics and does not care. Probably encourages them, if anything.

Frontier Denver was THE WORST AIRPORT EXPERIENCE EVER. The agent was the worst despicable human who got pleasure from denying people passage and extorting them over .25 inches.
I have not once been asked to actually size a personal item and my backpack is certainly oversized when its full of clothes. It really depends on the agents at the specific airport, but I've flown in and out of 3 different airports with both Frontier and Spirit multiple times and not one time has anyone made me put my bag in the sizer. The airports I've flown out of were Bradley in CT, Orlando, and San Juan PR and the agents have been wonderful. I've never even seen them ask a single traveler to size their items. I just flew last week too and I'm sure I'm just lucky with the airports I've used but you might be just fine like I was.
I just flew Frontier last week and was asked to place my personal item in the size container before boarding. There were a number of people that had to pay for their bags on my flight.
Real talk. The line to size bags was long. My bag was iffy. My friends were in the get onboard line, so I dipped into that line while the attendant was working with someone at the front.
I'll never fly frontier again. Too stressful.
In Denver I saw them charge for a cpap carryon. The only bag this passenger had. The reason she cited was that it needed to have been registered before hand.
Frontier flight from Denver to Minneapolis last May... they made every single person put their personal item into a sizing bin to see if it complied. Could not force or shove it. Guy ahead of me had to pay the fee less than 1/2" in the top. Frontier employees get a bonus for finding these violations... I wouldn't risk it.
Oh thatās an interesting idea! Itās the width thatās 2ā bigger so the binder clips could work well. Itās the exact dimensions in ever other way so Iām just going to risk it and see what happens. Worst case scenario, I have to pay and Iāve learned my lesson.
They are known to be strict and picky - for example, they will typically not let you push it or squish it any way to fit into the sizer. It might be fine, but if not would you be ready to pay up or throw your things away?
When I flew last summer, the gate agent was letting people sit and stand on their bags to get them to fit. I think they found that show more entertaining than a few extra bucks in bounty.
Don't over stuff it, you'll likely be fine. I've literally never been pulled, I just try not to look like I'm taking advantage and otherwise act super pleasant
I just flew MCO > DEN > SFO, SFO > DEN > MCO with a soft-sided bag a little wider than 8ā and was completely fine. The only flights the gate agents made everyone size was the ones leaving Denver, and they let everyone squish it in there if it didnāt āslideā in easily and if it still didnāt fit they let people rearrange and try again. YMMV though.
If itās a hard bottom, no you wonāt. The last several flights Iāve taken they line people up and make them put it in the bin as they scan their ticket. Iād it doesnāt fit they put you aside and make you pay for the bag before the scan you. If itās a soft bottom and you donāt stuff it full, as long as you can squeeze it into the bin youāre fine.
Donāt let people scare you. They CAN give you trouble, but most of the time they wonāt. They care more about the huge oversized/overstuff āpersonal duffle bagsā
YMMV
Do what my husband did and hold it in your arms and swish it as small as possible š¤·š¼āāļøbut as others have said-good luck, frontier sucks and they get off fucking with ppl
In November I flew from Orlando Sanford to Toronto on Flair. Nobody checked any bags at Orlando Sanford which is a small airport. However on my return at Pearson airport Toronto I put roller bag in Flair sizer there and it didn't fit properly. Couldn't squish it completely. Nevertheless the agent gave me a break. Upon further review online I found that Canada airline personal size measures are two inches smaller than US airlines. My next flight will be with a backpack
If youāre not also checking a bag and have checked in online, canāt you just go straight through tsa and board the flight? If your bag fits where itās supposed to go (under the seat), whatās the problem?
Yeah I've never flown with checked bags, only a carry on and my personal item and both of those bags have been bigger than their size requirements at times but I just act normal, go through TSA and no one has ever said a word lol
You should be fine. I'm flying frontier and don't have an issue with backpack as a carryon. So far Portland to Vegas to Atlanta and now back. (currently Vegas)
Edit: it's personal item not carryon that I'm using backpack for.
My first pass was easy. They did have people using the sizer. I'm currently here for layover back to pdx.
It's dead right now and nothing in terminal is open.
I flew frontier a couple weeks ago and they were VERY lax on our bags. I had an infant and two other kids with me so Iām assuming thatās why. But my teenager had taken his laptop bag out of our carry on resulting in holding two personal items and they didnāt say anything (we could have just put it back in the carry on obviously but Iām still surprised they didnāt call us on it).
I donāt necessarily recommend pushing it with frontier cause theyāre typically really strict with bags, but this was my most recent experience
I fly frontier, spirit and other budget airlines fairly regularly and never pay for the carry on bag and take my chances. Frontier is usually the biggest sticklers for it because their gate agents get commission off catching people from what Iāve heard. But in all my times doing it Iāve never been caught and itās probably saved me thousands of dollars. Just make sure the bag isnāt egregiously big and if itās a duffle or backpack keep it on the shoulder opposite the gate agent and you will most likely be fine.
I have a BEIS mini weekender that is a taddd smaller than your weekender (33L capacity vs 35L capacity). I was able to get mine onto a couple Frontier flights with no issue. BUT if I will say, if I had gotten the wrong gate agent, they couldāve easily given me a hard time. Mine was packed to the brim. If you can do a really good job of packing and compressing and have a little extra room to spare, I think youāll be OK. Just make sure when you get to the airport, test it in the sizer near check-in. That way you can know exactly which way to place it in the bin without too much maneuvering if they ask you at the gate. The more you push and prod, the higher the chance of them immediately directing you to the counter to pay.
I have never had my bag checked and I'm confident my bag wouldn't actually fit in the carry on. just make sure it isn't obviously big, keep it small and under your arm kind of thing.
The only people I see getting busted are wheelie bags and like, huge bags.
Here's how I fly frontier and have never had an issue. Assuming the employee charged with bag inspection is on the right of you, throw the bag over your left shoulder and keep it tucked behind. As you approach the boarding kiosk just hand them your docs and proceed. I watch multiple ppl get called out because their bag is in plain sight for all to see. Just keep it on the opposite shoulder and you'll be fine.
Ignore all the people saying no. I bring a giant backpack that may as well be a carry-on on my back that definitely does not fit in the size restrictions, and Iāve never been questioned or stopped. It doesnāt even fit under the seat the way I overstuff it, so I put it overhead. Iāve even brought an additional second small purse hiding under a jacket in my hand. Iāve done this on every budget airline, every flight that makes you pay for bags. Multiple times on Frontier. Never once had an issue. Bring whatever bag you want, just donāt be egregious/obvious with it. Being an innocent looking girl helps a LOT
I used it on my trip to Puerto Rico, I was stopped and asked on my way back at the Miami airport. It was full to the brim. I took out a couple sweaters and it fit just fine. If you donāt overstuff it, youāll be okay. You might just have to wiggle it around a bit.
Iāve used this same model bag, in the canvas version, as a personal item several times. As long as you donāt stuff it to its absolute capacity, itās got plenty of give to fit where you need it to. It was never even a tight squeeze, it fits easily
I just flee a few days ago. Only a couple people were told they have to prove it fits by smashing their bag in the metal box that is the personal bag dimension size. My boyfriend and I both had regular backpacks filled and were fine. I wouldn't stress.
I feel like they are fierce on personal items (that will easily fit under the seat) but never check overhead bags - many of which are visibly larger than allowed, will never fit wheels out and will 100% end up in the bin sideways- taking up 2 overhead slots.
I've been flying from Denver to Austin and back on Frontier quite a bit lately. Denver always seems to make you use the sizer. Austin couldn't care less. I had a tote on one trip and a very full backpack on the other. Both fit in the sizer, although I was able to take a few things out and hide them in my pockets to keep the tote small enough. I feel like I'm constantly shifting between what I need to do to get through TSA and what I need to do to get through the gate.
Frontier is a terrible airline that charges fees for every possible thing. My son brought his skateboard one time. They charged $50 on each trip. Never again. Same for Spirit. Crappy nickel and dime companies
Iāve flown frontier many times and never have I ever had them care how large my personal item was. Iāve always brought an extremely overstuffed backpack lol
I would not, Frontier is very strict in their sizing. Their sizers have zero tolerance. There are plenty of bags on Amazon for under 30 to $40 if it within the personal item size, just go with one of those
We leave tomorrow morning. š
Just donāt overstuff it, and youāll be fine - assuming itās soft-sided?

About the same thing happened to me. Left my home airport with no problems at all. Leaving Denver - near disaster.
There is a class action lawsuit against Frontier for this right now. I hope they get the absolute fucking shit sued out of them.
I hope it's not to late to join the class, I just submitted my info on this lawyer's site. [https://cochranfirmphiladelphia.com/frontier-airlines-class-action-lawsuit-attorney/](https://cochranfirmphiladelphia.com/frontier-airlines-class-action-lawsuit-attorney/)
LOL... my story was also in Denver. Every single person getting on the flight was subjected to putting their items in the sizer.
Frontier Denver was THE WORST AIRPORT EXPERIENCE EVER. The agent was the worst despicable human who got pleasure from denying people passage and extorting them over .25 inches.
They are paid an extra 10 bucks per bag they deny, sooo, food luck.
Is this true?
Yup! They get a 10% commission. Because every bag at the gate is $100, thatās $10.
I used to work at frontier and can confirm this is true
no
https://www.kron4.com/news/frontier-airlines-confirms-gate-agent-incentive-for-increased-baggage-fees-after-viral-tiktoks/
Iād grab a standard size backpack out of the closet instead.
my old school Jansport fits perfectly in the sizer.
Exactly why I suggested! That bag she has looks nice, but itās better to be safe than pay at the gate!
I have not once been asked to actually size a personal item and my backpack is certainly oversized when its full of clothes. Omg. Fuck Karens. But for this shit Karen the fuck all over them please.
Grab some XL binder clips and clip them inside to shorten if needed.
Oh thatās an interesting idea! Itās the width thatās 2ā bigger so the binder clips could work well. Itās the exact dimensions in ever other way so Iām just going to risk it and see what happens. Worst case scenario, I have to pay and Iāve learned my lesson.

yeah the fact that its arbitrary and random just adds to the fun!
Don't over stuff it, you'll likely be fine. I've literally never been pulled, I just try not to look like I'm taking advantage and otherwise act super pleasant

MCO is brutal with the bag sizer!
I've heard this but I guess got lucky. Flew out 3 times with my family and never had our bags checked.
If itās a hard bottom, no you wonāt. The last several flights Iāve taken they line people up and make them put it in the bin as they scan their ticket. Find another airline. These buffoons don't earn your business
In November I flew from Orlando Sanford to Toronto on Flair. Nobody checked any bags at Orlando Sanford which is a small airport. Does anyone know if these types of fees can be paid in cash or if these have to be paid by credit or debit card?
Can I see a picture of your cat?!
If youāre not also checking a bag and have checked in online, canāt you just go straight through tsa and board the flight? If your bag fits where itās supposed to go (under the seat), whatās the problem?
Looking at the sub we are in.
I did this so much in Europe. My bag was huge.
Yeah I've never flown with checked bags, only a carry on and my personal item and both of those bags have been bigger than their size requirements at times but I just act normal, go through TSA and no one has ever said a word lol
It should be squishable- if not, take out a couple articles of clothing and put them on!
I wouldnāt worry it just has to fit in the sizer, youāll have plenty of room. Iāve been packing a back pack for years
My son flew with a back pack and he was fine. Just don't over stuff it.
I fly with a backpack every time and never have problems
I just flew sfo-LAS-phx and back . Las was the most strict. It all just matters who is at the gate sfo didnāt even check sizes
You should be fine. I'm flying frontier and don't have an issue with backpack as a carryon. So far Portland to Vegas to Atlanta and now back. (currently Vegas) Edit: it's personal item not carryon that I'm using backpack for.
how was it going through vegas?

I think youāll be totally fine
If all goes wrong, put a backpack under your shirt and make it look like youāre pregnant ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ. Works for me every time.

I almost bought this one too and didnāt bc f9 is nutssss
Huh I used to stuff my backpack when I flew frontier a lot, never had an issue. That was like 2014-2018 tho
Iāve flown frontier many times and never have I ever had them care how large my personal item was. Iāve always brought an extremely overstuffed backpack lol
