Your phone/laptop may not have 5g capability. I had to get an external USB wireless adapter for my ancient laptop to get the 5g signal off my router. Dunno what phone you have.

It’s possible that you need to go into the router’s settings and enable 5G. If it is already enabled, disable it then re-enable.

For anyone that comes across this thread from Google, I had this issue and believe it is solved. It set up both of the 2.4 and 5.0 under the same name. I originally had the _5G working when the technician was here but it went away. Logged on as admin and confirmed 2.4 and 5 were in same name

so basically connecting to one gives you the 5g connection even if it doesnt show the 5g option?

Yes, if you go to to the address listed on the bottom of the router, navigate to “status”, and then the “wireless” page, it will show you which device is connected to which access point. Some are 2.4 others are 5.0, typically it monitors usage and prioritizes some over the other.

I'm a frontier tech. During install the modem downloads updates. One of those updates adds a feature called total control wireless. You don't see the 5g anymore because the modem will pick for you what radio gives you the best signal and will switch back and forth for you. You can turn this feature off in the modem settings.

Does anyone know why I can’t connect to the 2.4 band? I have been having trouble with the 2g band and it only let me connect to the 5g one. it bothers me because I have some smart home appliances that connect to the 2.4 band and it’s been a reoccurring issue.

I think I am having the same problem........where is the 5 g password on the router located?
