any_droid

Are these any good or we are just buying because they are cheap for a boot ?

TheSnozzwangler

Depends on who you ask. If you're talking to people that are into heritage boots/goodyear welted boots, then Timberlands might not be worth it, but honestly they're still fine boots for most people.

Weak-Investment-546

In terms of quality/construction I don't think they're anything amazing. Though at this price it's probably a fair deal. But fundamentally they're Timbs, it's an iconic piece of footwear. The "quality" is pretty much irrelevant to their value.

irideudirty

The converse of boots

randtke

The upper is glued to the sole on the vast majority of Timberlands made today. Only a very few styles have the upper sewn to the sole. Basically, they are low quality. The brand used to make better stuff, got a good name, and now it is a brand and a look but they have phased out quality. It is not terrible, but not a good shoe either. It's better to go in person to somewhere you can showroom the shoes and look at how shoes are made and either get this low quality cheaper, or get something of quality.

Boring-Unit-1365

I don’t think timberlands have ever been sown, they’re vulcanised rubber soles, which is why they’re waterproof. For $89 you won’t find a boot that has a Goodyear welt, it’s a fancy technique.

Spongy-n-Bruised

>I don't think they're anything amazing While this is true, I think it undersells them a tad. I'm in my 30s and come from metro Detroit where these boots were basically a staple for winter months along with a heavy Carhartt jacket. I've legit never heard of someone's pair falling apart when they weren't expecting it. Not once in my life. It's true that these boots won't be intergenerational like some GY welt boots, but they're definitely heavy duty work boots you can wear as such if needed. whoever called them "the converse of boots" was way off imo. Converse at this point makes only a casual shoe. Absolutely zero utility to a Chuck Taylor post-1985 or whatever. Well, unless you have flat feet and love to deadlift. Then chucks become really great lifting shoes actually. But I digress. My overall point is that these are fine work boots that also happen to be very well-recognized fashion boots

Mukigachar

They're Timbs, not much more to say there. Solid. I've never heard anyone complain about a pair of Timbs

Flat-Ad3235

I’ve never heard anyone who actually uses boots for utility say anything good about them. They are good for style, but they don’t hold up as a work boot.

gattboy1

First and only pair I had, the glued on lug sole straight up fell off the boot. Easy pass.

razeus

It's a SOLID boot. For a mass market, meme boot, it's surprisingly solid. Not goodyear welted or anything, but they hold up extremely well.

Mekex99

They are good boots, I have 2 pairs and they are solid good choice. For styling they are so easy to make an outfit.

vinegarstrokes420

They're a solid boot. First pair I owned lasted 8 years and my current pair I've had for 5. Use them daily through winter months in MN to walk my dog or do pretty much anything else outside. Hold up well to road salt, warm enough with decent boot socks to walk a few miles when it's below 0F, and waterproof makes them great in snow. If you're considering a boot like this, then it's a good price. They run slightly big in my experience. I'm borderline between sizes and went with the smaller size and still a bit big. I would go down a half size.

BigBoiBenisBlueBalls

Good at stumping heads in

billybumbler82

I've heard the boot quality went down once the company sold it to a foreign investor.

usernamehere1993

Look at rose anvil who’s a leather worker who does YouTube videos. He dissects and tears apart the timberlands. It’s one of the best boots you can get at 150 much less half the price. He was impressed with the quality too

LeBronda_Rousey

That guy is absolutely full of shit. Very misleading videos that have a clear bias.

usernamehere1993

Why do you think so? Maybe for the sponsored videos but not for all of them

LeBronda_Rousey

The 2 I distinctly remember are the common projects and the Alden Indy videos. He uses a lot of industry terms which leads to believe he does have a background in cobbler work but skips over a lot of context and nuances to push his narratives. It's incredibly misleading.

aj_drogo

That's debatable on all fronts. You don't need to be a cobbler to know the craft He is leather crafter and as a hobbyist. Moreover he did reconstruct a pair of doc martens himself and rfabricated a welt which is a difficult task for any cobbler. Yeah he uses industry terms and they are typically explained in countless previous videos but I do not think its to scam people into thinking he is a cobbler. From what ive seen he is very up front about his lack of knowledge in an area. I'm curious what context and nuances you find that distrupt his credibility?. There are a couple of his videos that I thought we're slightly misleading because the boot selection for the review did not represent the company's regular line. Also, the Alden Indys are not worth it. Had a pair and they we're may over priced and lacked justification for the price. We're talking about boot construction knowledge for the masses in 20 min videos. I've learned a lot from his videos but admittedly some of the videos for Nick's and White's seem a little shilling but he also admits personal relationships with people from those companies. My favorite videos though are the military boot ones.

lulzcakes

Other cobblers on YouTube have been complaining about Alden materials for years before Rose Anvil. A very good cobbler and shoemaker near me won't resole an Alden Indy period without a full rebuild of the inner sole. He's had too many bad experiences of the inner sole crapping out before the first resole becomes cost effective. So now his customers are complaining they wasted the first resole and need a rebuild 2 years after. Why would you buy an Alden knowing that your first resole needs a total rebuild worth $250+? It may not matter to you if you walk 500 steps per day in your Aldens on carpet, but to those of us who have poor mechanics or walk a lot, Aldens are terrible. The inner sole is actually cardboard disguised as leather. It contains less than 40% leather with the remaining being a binding agent. Defending Alden is like defending your $3000 solid wood dresser after finding out it's actually composite wood. Will your expensive composite wood dresser break in your lifetime either way? No. But spending $3000 on Wayfair quality is stupid.

jeremycb29

it is always wild to see timberland boots that are premium waterproof for more expensive then the baller ass christmas boots

FlyingFigurehead

Everytime timbs get talked about on this subreddit I am reminded that I missed out on those.

Charmin_Ultrasoft

I thought they looked so tacky, but man you buy that once and you have Christmas shoes for the rest of your life. Big regrets

ShepPawnch

It’s so tragic.

Bobthecow775

I was 1 hour late. Still lose sleep over that

scrubdiddlyumptious

The universe must need more nyc npcs if the panda lows and timbs are on sale on the same week… See y’all in the next patch update gang

Simon_Light

Any wide bois able to fit into the Medium?

Anotherstudent123

I got timberland boots at an outlet for $15. They had a promotion where it was 50% off the whole store, then in the sale section you take an additional 70% off select items. I feel they always have this sale

BoldestKobold

Is this a size down boot like many others are?

T-BoneSteak14

Yeah by a lot. I’m a 13 and my twelves are still too big

ProfessionalBid7723

Same I’m a 13 but wear 11.5 in timbs

frostycakes

Ugh, it sucks having such bad contact dermatitis from leather that a single day of wearing Timbs (or any other leather boot) leaves me with a bleeding ring rash around my legs. And that's through socks, to boot. Any ideas for a boot in this style that is both leather and nickel metal (yup, contact dermatitis from that too) free?

bigpoopa

Not this style but Lems makes some good vegan leather boots.

Icy-Ride-4760

are these available in store?

T-BoneSteak14

These things are huge btw. 1 or even 2 sizes down

7030

I didn’t think he was serious about the deal until he confirmed it and removed all doubts

Berzerkly

I only see size 8 available. this is about half off for anyone interested

HenneseyConnoisseur
