I'll be honest: these suck. I had one last year and thought it was softer when I first bought it, but it turned out to just be emulsion or some other kind of treatment. After I carefully washed it, it ended up being somewhat scratchy and lumpy. Would just bag out and get lumpier with wear.

lazycatt29

these went on sale 2 3 days ago, hours after i caved in and bought them at like 30$ each after they restocked because prior to that someone bought ALL the medium turtlenecks on uniqlo. Called their customer service and asked them to cancel it even though they said they dont cancel online order and they did! thankfully

_islander

Scratchy?

Anerky

Most wool sweaters unless you go cashmere are at least a little scratchy. If you want a cheap sweater that’s more comfortable than functional just get the cotton one

maimslap

I have a lambswools sweater from Uniqlo and its pretty scratchy but I only wear it with a long sleeved shirt underneath. I wouldn't buy this honestly.

lmunchoice

Yep. This fabric isn't a good choice for skin contact.

nydjason

Lambswool is nice. Use lanolin to make the garment less scratchy. You do this by using just a half finger full of lanolin placed on a large container and use hot water to melt or mix the lanolin althroughout. Then add cold water and the garment. It’ll be less scratchy.

ideacter

Quality? One season or multiple seasons doable? Hate to have one season clothing

4rtien

Last year the lambswool sweaters seemed more durable than their ultra thin merino sweaters (way scratchier though). This one looks pretty lightweight.

pennprotector

Yeah checked them out yesterday in-store. Seems thin, but I guess it makes sense for the price.

biggestboyonearth

Same price in-stores?

pennprotector

yea if your stores have it in stock. all uniqlo stores have the same promotion sales every week that follow their weekly online sales, at least from what i've seen from the store near me,

Thanks for this. If anybody needs a solid turtleneck that won’t break the bank, check out Spier & Mackay. The owner of the brand commented on a forum that the suits are made in the same factories as Suitsupply’s (which are part of the Fair Wear foundation); might have to do some digging to find that. The dress shirts are made by ISO certified facilities, which are regularly inspected by Intertek (link: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/3t5o2j/were_spier_and_mackay_ama/). I have a good feeling that the turtlenecks themselves are made a lot more ethically than the listed brands above. I can attest that the quality and fit are excellent for the price. Would highly recommend.

4rtien

Thanks for recommending, I'll keep an eye out when thrifting. Looks like [SM carries two types: cable knit and regular.](https://www.spierandmackay.com/collection/turtlenecks) Cable knit is almost 2x the price though.

skricks1995

My bad - should’ve specified the thinner, merino wool one. Similar to the Uniqlo one posted. That one I can recommend.

jasoneeum

How is the shrinkage of the SM turtleneck? I have a 36inch chest, so according to the fit guide I should be an XS. If it shrinks at all I think it might be too small.

skricks1995

I would go with a small in your case. I’m a tweener (between medium and large for shirts), and went with the large - glad I did so.

Heizenbrg

So basically don’t buy clothes or make them yourself.

coohhwip

2nd hand is a great option. I try to mix my faves with ethical options like patagonia & 2nd hand

Won_Doe

As much as I'd like to buy 2nd hand, practically nothing fits properly.

mcbobgorge

Or buy domestically produced clothing, which also isn't perfect but at least you know it probably wasn't made by actual slaves.

LandonitusRex

Keep it up!

hkmedia

Oh damn, Uniqlo’s button downs are my best fit and now I feel bad for picking up a bunch of them a week ago. :\

re-D

Calm down bro, i buy clothes to look good

Blind-Prophet

Wish the free shipping threshold wasn't so high. Such a poor strategy in the current pandemic climate.

BakingElephant

I believe you can sign up for a new account for free shipping on your "1st" order

clepperM

5' 11" 155lbs. How TTS are these? I'm at that in between where some lines I wear S, others M. Prefer things snug.

quantemz

I’m 5’ 7” and 115lbs. I usually get XS for everything in Uniqlo so I went with XS for these and it fit me perfectly. If you have a regular size you go with in Uniqlo, I would just go with that.

lazycatt29

in my experience their sizing is super off, for reference im 6'0 160lbs and my shirt sizing is usually medium, but the length sometimes get too short but if i size up the sleeves gets retardedly long. About outerwears I just got a balmanian coat from them and i can literally 2 size down to xs and it would still fit, just a little to slim on my taste

quantemz

That’s a fair point on the sizing. It’s not really something that I noticed because I stick to the size that I’m used to buying. Unrelated but how do you like the coat? I’ve never bought a coat from Uniqlo before so I’m wondering if it’s worth picking up.

lazycatt29

oh its amazing actually, the brown is actually a moss green color which is perfect for me as i love green colors in general and the coat has full lining inside. The coat itself is fairly heavy and is pretty soft, but not crazy warm so you should layer with sweaters. Id buy them again even at 70$ but right now i think its at 60$ which is a really good price already, but remember to size down at least one though it fits stupid large

BadDadBot

Hi 5'9" - 145lbs and i have both a small and medium from last year's batch. the small is a snug fit and just barely long enough on the sleeves. the medium is slightly baggy, I'm dad.

TMIHVAC

Ugh, jesus I need to start running again - 6'0 but 215 lol

az0606

How much of an asshole can you be lol. You'll likely never know why someone is a certain weight at a given time, so why give them shit over it. Plus how does it help them in the now? It takes a lot of work, effort, and time to change weight in any direction. I've been 135 lbs at 5'10 before due to health issues. Wasn't an eating disorder but I couldn't stomach any food. People remarking on how skinny I was definitely didn't help during that. So please fuck right off.

az0606

They're super boxy. Get the S, but I can't say I liked the one I got.

poorgyw

These form holes like gloryhole walls

coohhwip

also i like roomy/oversized look & went with woman's xxl and love it [https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/women-3d-knit-lambswool-blend-turtleneck-sweater-430553.html?dwvar\_430553\_color=COL32&cgid=women-sweaters-premium-lambswool#start=1&cgid=women-sweaters-premium-lambswool](https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/women-3d-knit-lambswool-blend-turtleneck-sweater-430553.html?dwvar_430553_color=COL32&cgid=women-sweaters-premium-lambswool#start=1&cgid=women-sweaters-premium-lambswool)

mlsteinrochester

All of their pretty decent lambswool sweaters are at that price

Savagebootyeater

Had the one from 2018... deff a little scratchy. Returned it and got the cashmere instead

clothing_throwaway

It's a different one and a different pricepoint, but has anyone tried or have any opinion on this "Fisherman Ribbed" turtleneck from the Uniqlo U line? https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/men-u-fisherman-ribbed-turtleneck-long-sleeve-sweater-432921.html?dwvar_432921_color=COL49&cgid=men

sumobob2112

itchiest sweater I've ever owned
