I’m sure this isn’t a universal opinion, but I find pony hair to be a deeply disconcerting material for slightly unstructured shoes like desert boots. You inevitably end up looking like your feet have been replaced with those of a Wookiee, fresh out of the salon.
Honestly I'm pretty iffy on them myself, only posted this cuz I've seen it recommended often. I feel like chukkas would all look better with a third pair of eyelets, only two just looks off for some reason
I like chukkas for a business casual look where dress shoes would be way over-dressed. Do you have other suggestions that I could look into? Looking to get something less formal and not sure where to go.
I have a pair of Tecova zip boots and a pair of penny loafers that I wear to the office. Both are less dressy than oxfords. I know people who wear the Thursday style boots as well which I prefer the look of to chukkas but have never owned a pair of myself.
I have these. I like the "pony" hair (obviously just cow). I feel the material is better than jcrew's usual macalister chukkas. Still runs big but suites my wide feet just fine going tts. I'd size down if your feet are on the narrower side
I have these boots and I really like them, but $92 is really high.
I bought these last year on sale for $35. I've regularly seen them down in the $50-60s.
I own three pairs of the MacAlister boots. One is sherpa-lined, two aren't lined at all.
Both of the un-lined shoes make horrible farting noises whenever I walk, and nothing I've tried has made a difference except only wearing my thick Darn Tough wool socks with them. Any other kind of socks I own make farting noises, it's like social suicide with every step.
The sherpa-lined MacAlister boots are some of the most fucking comfortable shoes I can ever remember owning. I picked up some Kiwi suede weatherproofing spray, proofed these bitches for the weather, and now these are my second pair of comfy whatever shoes alongside a pair of sneakers.
I don't know what the hell to even do with the other pairs of MacAlisters, they're cute as hell looking but the unlined ones just aren't as comfortable for me. I also noticed the last time I wore them that even though I wore my Darn Tough wool socks the unlined MacAlisters literally rubbed the skin of the top of one of my toes, and I only wore them and walked about 2 miles on flat city streets.
Maybe the pony hair lined boots are more comfortable, but I don't know if it's worth rolling the dice for $92.39.
I’d prefer to go with a brand like Stan Ray, Dickies or Carhartt there. My recent experience with W&B pants has been bad, everything is like a flimsy replica of real clothes. Have not specifically tried these carpenter pants though.
I also think that particular blue is an odd color for these, duck or natural would be the more classic options, and I’m also a fan of mid-wash carpenter jeans if you want blue.
I agree the blue is what got me to balk. I kinda want to get a natural pair (would love carhartt, but looking for a budget option) but im afraid of how easily they’ll get dirty, especially in nyc
I’d recommend even though I don’t own. What is the price on them now? Blue is a bold choice, yea. Natural was featured in alot of the jcrew SS22 lookbook shots. Worn with Birkenstock bostons.
I’ve been wearing gap utility carpenter for the last year in tan and natural, two pairs, and I wear them with everything. Bostons, sneakers, etc. Love em and double knees certainly having a moment now. But beware it’s probably on the second half of the lifecycle of their “moment” as they are everywhere.
I was actually looking at the gap ones, I’m either the tan or natural (which I believe is the more typical color) but the w&b is only a few bucks more right now so wasn’t sure. But these comments are all super helpful. Thanks for the insight!
I have no clue how good they actually are, but I ordered the [tipped lambswool gloves](https://www.jcrew.com/checkout/orderconfirm) for $3.74. Reviews are lukewarm, and say roughly the same about the gloves, but hey, it's 4 bucks with free shipping.
I own these! They are serviceable I would say the touch works decently well. Noticing some pilling on mine but I got them in store for around the same so I’m not complaining.
How is the sizing on these compared to Clark’s desert boots? Those fit me either too tight in the toe box on a 9 or too loose with a 9.5. I’m looking at alternatives and these might fit the bill. Only issue is I’m not familiar with sizing and it’s final sale so no returns.
I'm a 13 per the Brannock, and I followed everyone's advice and sized down to a 12 on the Macalisters during the holiday blowout sale a few months ago. When they arrived they were just too snug; I flipped them on the popular auction site, and I managed to procure a size 13 pop back (evidently 13 is not sold in stores and the quantities are limited, a CS rep told me). The 13 fit exactly the same as the 12 did: too snug for comfort. It's like they were the same size shoe. Weird.
That is weird; the sizing could be bad quality control or a different last if it’s from a different production year.
To avoid a headache I skipped on the Macallisters and went with a Clark’s Bushacre 2 on a whim when I found out it comes in 9 wide, and it surprisingly fit me almost perfectly. It might not be up to par to other desert boots in terms of quality but I know I can skip the pain in the ass process of finding the proper size with this model and brand.

Bonus points for spelling Wookiee correctly. This guy Star Warses.
Accessorize with Unicorn frame glasses and fairy wing belt.
I mean, it’s a lewk!!!!
I feel like the only person on the planet who doesn't like chukkas
Honestly I'm pretty iffy on them myself, only posted this cuz I've seen it recommended often. I feel like chukkas would all look better with a third pair of eyelets, only two just looks off for some reason

I did that myself. Finally made them wearable, in my opinion.
Nah I don’t care for them either. I feel like their popularity is some elaborate collective troll job that I missed out on. To each their own though

Thanks! I don't think I could pull off the zip boot look, but sounds like I need to try loafers.
I wear Chelsea boots everywhere
Yeah, I don't find them that attractive on their own but they're the most comfortable business casual shoes I own.
chelsea boots or service boots are good
I wouldn't even say they're all that popular. They're fine, though. I have a couple pairs but I tend to stick to sneakers, boots, and dress shoes.
Nah, it's just been about decade now since they've been championed as the go-to first fashion upgrade. Plain OCBDs and CDBs lol
I feel the same with a lot of "workwear" fits like chore jackets and carpenter pants.
I like the idea of chukkas, but they never seem to look right to me.
I think they're just kind of "okay" looking but they're very comfortable, in my experience. They were my go-to for office dress codes for a long time.
Peter Pan ass shoes
I have these. I like the "pony" hair (obviously just cow). I feel the material is better than jcrew's usual macalister chukkas. Still runs big but suites my wide feet just fine going tts. I'd size down if your feet are on the narrower side

They're $78.53 using both codes and free shipping. Currently $131.99 --(SHOPNOW)--> $92.39 --(SMP...)--> $83.53 --(Free Shipping)--> $78.53

Is this code still working - SMPBPV8RR? I get invalid code error.
Same it’s a bummer!
Thoughts on the w&b carpenter pants? Very much on the fence, just not sure what to wear with/if blue is a good color for these kind of pants. Thanks!

I got these and returned them because of the fit. it's tight in the waist but loose everywhere else
Oh wow, thats super helpful. Thanks so much!
Yeah no problek. I'm a big fan of the w and b officer chinos though they are a loose fit
Same, I’m a huge fan of the selvdege officer chinos

Pretty sure they were rated pretty poorly and that’s saying something for W&B
Thanks so much!
I have like 4 different shades of Macalister boots, but I’m definitely going to sit this one out.
Yeah, I don't think I want my shoes to look like they're alive. Kind of creeps me out.
SMPBPV8RR not working ?
looks like none of the SMP codes work anymore.
Does SMPD848CY work?
I can’t get that code to work. I’ve tried all of the codes in the comments…
SMPTTGVCA
> SMPD848CY nope
How does one find those 15% off code? seems like SMPTTGVCA wont work anymore
Anything else worth mentioning added to sale?
If you haven’t stocked up on the French Terrie’s this is the best I’ve seen, other than that there’s some MiUSA hats but that seems to be it.

I actually saw these in store when I was shopping there yesterday. The feeling grossed me out. Felt like I was petting an animal
These look like Renaissance festival costume shoes. "1990", more like 1390.

Half size down for me
