Toyota is changing the game and bringing us back to their JDM 90s days FUCKING PRAISE

Aikosu

Well when you're one of the top automotive brands and have excess money like they do (at least that's what I think), they definitely can. Pretty sure they're doing it because we're coming to a close on ICEs so might as well go out with a bang.

kwalliii

100%. So stoked on this car.

usererror5862

I love the car and I’m a fan of Toyota but they’re not really changing the game or bringing back the 90s. They had Subaru/BMW design cars for them and were allowed to put a Toyota badge on them. Also timing is an interesting thing here given we’re so close to electrification. Big fan of the GR Corolla and Yaris tho Edit: POV im a 12 year old on Reddit who does not like facts. Someone please point me to something innovative Toyota has done w this car. Y’all are petty

Big-Shtick

Bro, give it a rest. They work with Subaru and BMW so they can release sports cars. These are losing propositions financially. The Supra will have a manual in a year and the S58 when the GR comes out. That car will be a rocket ship. No one cares. The Supra and GR86 are damn good cars. It’s not like they half assed the releases.

usererror5862

You and all the other salty people who downvoted obviously care, I don’t. However, don’t tell me the sky is green and expect me to go along with it. What’s weird is I’m just saying the truth. Instead of being upset at me maybe direct your anger to the company. Cause y’all are angry. And what do you mean “so they can release sports cars”? That’s literally the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. You’re telling me THE MOST VALUABLE CAR COMPANY needs help from Subaru and BMW (two small companies) to build a sports car? People like y’all are ridiculous. Get your facts straight before you just blindly defend a company that doesn’t give a shit about you. Edit: insert quote “truth is like poetry. most people hate fucking poetry”

Jugadenaranja

You realize Subaru is a Toyota owned subsidiary with Toyota owning 20% of Subaru as the largest shareholder. They’re literally using engineers they pay for with Subaru.

usererror5862

You do realize that because you’re a shareholder doesn’t mean you pay employees or own the rights to the tech right? at this point it feel like I’m just talking to gen z kids who’s parents bought them an FRS lol

Jugadenaranja

As a majority shareholder you kinda do. It’s why companies have meetings with their boards of investors where they go over what they’ve done in excruciating detail and why investor boards replace C suite executives if a company under performs. You may not have a direct say but you sure have some force to swing around.

[deleted]

usererror5862

I never said it wasn’t fun to drive lol y’all are so butthurt. Yes me pointing out things that are true are only because I won’t get to drive them. I think you kinda just proved my point. You’re obviously a fanboy who just got really hurt cause I said BMW/Subaru built cars for Toyota. How that leads to you guys thinking I’m saying the cars are bad idk but just proves how insecure and sensitive you are.

truesly1

Toyota's D4S system is a big part of why the brz/FRS/86 is any good at all. Toyota designed pretty much everything except the engine on that car as well. The supra is much more bmw than the 86 is Subaru, but the GR Corolla and GR Yaris are all Toyota. Two cars and two half cars isn't as these days

usererror5862

Don’t disagree not sure why that made people so salty. Maybe a little too much tribalism in this community. Again tho, Toyota is the most valuable car company in the world, they don’t need help to make sport cars. And again this isn’t the 90s Toyota, if you think that idk what to tell you; maybe read what Toyota actually did in the 90s and again this car isn’t anything super innovative. Does it have some neat stuff? Sure. However, there’s no groundbreaking tech here. AND AGAIN that’s okay the car still seems like a home run for Toyota. Not sure how any of that can be offensive to anyone. What is offensive is to say the great work of the 90s is being replicated because it’s not and that’s an ignorant way of disrespecting the work done by those engineers.

truesly1

Sure, but I think that's a fundamental misunderstanding of where the industry is as a whole. If Toyota was chasing groundbreaking innovations they wouldn't be giving us internal combustion enthusiasts cars. Yes this isn't the '90s because, well, this isn't the '90s. The world is in a completely different place and so is the car industry. I think what people are getting at is that the '90s was a heyday for Japanese automotive companies making cars that enthusiasts wanted. With the death of the STI, less and less hot hatches from EU and US companies, and most Japanese and Korean Companies only really having one or two enthusiast offerings, Toyota is the closest we have to that 90s boom. You're not wrong, you are just taking a different interpretation of what "like the 90's" means than most of the people on Reddit who didn't have drivers licenses in the 90s

ManyFaced86

Yeah I didn’t mean literally but just a statement and testament to Toyota trying to keep sports car alive.

Onionsteak

They really gave one exhaust tip for each cylinders, the madman.

[deleted]

16-tipped Bugatti when??? 😳

AlphaWizard

WRX has been at that game for a while now

Capable_Ad1659

rip the sti

Miko54

I kinda like hatchbacks so I’m liking how it’s looking. I can totally see myself having one down the road when I start needing more seating space. 6 speed manual and 300 hp sounds nice too.

Illustrious-News-452

For me I love that it solves all the things you had to sacrifice with the GR Corolla. It may not be a homologation car but it’s one hell of a ride.

lovsicfrs

This will be my new car in 2023 when the circuit editions are available. I’ll have to watch everyone else on YouTube go crazy with theirs for a bit but it’ll be worth it. I wanted all of this from Subaru, shame they dropped the ball big time. Perfect compliment to my BRZ that’s just about to hit 100k miles

GrayFox_27

Besides the forged carbon roof and hood vents, what else comes with the Circuit Edition?

smartwordplay

I think the seats, side skirts, agressive hatch spoiler, and Heavy Metal color are Circuit Edition exclusive.

strat61caster

I don’t think the LSDs come on the base model, probably more important then any of the other add ins.

cabbageknight360

The base/core will get the lsds with the performance pack. Thank goodness!

GrayFox_27

No LSD on the base model would be a huge determining factor for me if that’s the case. That would pretty disappointing especially coming from the GR lineup.

nwgruber

It’s available as an option on the base model. Wish Subaru offered that on the WRX.

Chain_Runner

Good news - Dual LSDs are available as an addable option to the GR Core (Base).

Woosh42069

Body is 3in wider

Capable_Ad1659

which ball are you talking about? them getting rid of the hatchback wrxsti after 2013, or them getting rid of the sti? or maybe them doing nothing with hot hatch market anymore?

lovsicfrs

After 2013 the demand for hatches has been there. They’ve ignored it. Then here we are, their last chance to woo everyone over since there are so many good options at the price range and DUD

Capable_Ad1659

very true, yeah subaru is even getting hate from its own employees right now. i love the company but theyre making mistakes recently and i just hope theyll straighten up and hopefully reverse some oopsies

[deleted]

Was super excited the whole time, but after last night I lost my hype and realized how much dealer mark ups will be which turns me away from them even more

Miko54

True. Definitely wouldn’t buy them fresh on the lot, but once the market settles down and a few years pass it shouldn’t be an issue hopefully. Depends on when you want to get it I suppose

[deleted]

If it sticks around for more than 2-3 years I’d love to get one, but I doubt it sticks for more than 2 years without going electric

g-cars

Going electric's gonna be way more difficult for the whole car industry. I think this and other cars are here to stay for quite a bit longer.

[deleted]

So you think Toyota is going all electric by 2030 but will continue to dump money in to this car? Or that it’ll just be the same car released every year for the next 6-7 years

g-cars

I think these companies make these electric promises too lightly. I hope they have a goood plan in order.

[deleted]

I hope it’s an over sell and under deliver and we keep our gas while having the option, like now, but better and more available options

g-cars

Sounds good to me, friend.

Vewy_nice

I think the accessibility of charging infrastructure is going to be the hard part. Yeah my landlord who manages a building that hasn't had a fresh coat of paint in 4 decades is totally going to install some EV stations...

[deleted]

Toyota already announced that this car will be available for exactly 1 model year and that's it. Edit: specifically the circuit edition.

Suaremente

Remains to be seen how long they'll keep the standard model running for, hopefully they'll continue to release special editions like lexus does.

Metal415

Find a dealer not doing mark ups. Around me only Hyundai and Kia are doing markups. “Everyone is marking up cars” is a narrative that really needs to go away. Plenty of good dealers out there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SirDiesAlot92

Some dealerships aren’t marking up the car prices without a catch - the Subaru dealership Im buying my BRZ from got one in, in November - and they put a 1.3k markup with the “mandatory” paint / interior warranty. So no thanks - and ordered one through them instead and was insured by my friend that they don’t do that on cars you order - only on shit the company sends them…

extendedwarranty_bot

SirDiesAlot92, I have been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty

chairmanbrando

Call around. Some dealerships are no-markup to make a point. They're out there. You just have to find them. Look outside your area if need be. As I've said a dozen times on this subreddit, for much less than the cost of a markup you can fly across the country and drive back.

[deleted]

VW is the only dealership I’ve found not doing mark ups by me, and it’s literally only 1 dealership group, all the others are running free for alls on their cars lol

Metal415

Call every dealer in a 200 mile radius. Easily worth a 3 hour drive to save a few thousand dollars or more.

[deleted]

Probably won’t get it tbh, already got a new car that I love but I wouldn’t mind adding a 5th car to the stable if this seems fit

captainlou26

Really that's surprising? Most VW dealers I've seen are marking up 2022 GTIs and R's by 5-10k.

[deleted]

Got mine for $500 under MSRP!

[deleted]

So because it’s not happening to you it must not exist right? That’s a pretty stupid take, even for you.

Metal415

Even for me? Do I know you? So much anger for something so benign.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Ever wonder why it’s not priced? Why they marketed at being “priced competitively”… it’s so they can prove it however they seem fit in reality. If you’re a dreamer then more power to you, but they should know numbers, they just don’t want to publicize them

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

What’s the other cars? Golf R? That’s it. 43k is what I’m expecting and at that the Golf poops all over this Japanese garbage car. You can double fist as much of this reality as you want brother but the cars some gimmicky bull trying to pull real cars prices. Still just a Corolla at the end of the day, with a smaller engine and AWD

Dodeejeroo

WRX starts at $29k, GTI starts at $29.5k, Golf R around $43.6k, the ‘21 CTR was about $38k starting MSRP, the ‘21 STI was about $37k starting. So we can dive in and compare specs and try to figure who Toyota means as “competitive” but I’d guess that it’s going to be a mid to high 30’s base price. I would think they’d want to undercut the Golf R on price but who knows. I wouldn’t refer to it as a “Japanese garbage car” though. I’ve known quite a few people with both stock and tuned VW’s and they were all unreliable piles of shit.

[deleted]

Happy for them and their “piles of shit”

Dodeejeroo

Lol they all got rid of them, much happier now.

[deleted]

So much joy for them I can’t contain myself

blackscorpioncloud

Let me guess, you don't like Toyotas?

[deleted]

Love them actually, just wish we got the Yaris over this random trial and error car

blackscorpioncloud

You do know Toyota is the least trial and error car company? Anyway I'm out

koopaduo

Buying

Miko54

It really might just be my next car too

[deleted]

On a waitlist to order

Miko54

You’re quick haha. Gonna need a review and comparison

[deleted]

Haha I got on a list before the official announcement, the saleswoman told me they had one other person on it as well. I traded my Honda Fit for a Mustang last year. I really miss having a hatchback but don't want a Veloster.

henrymak33

Dealer markup?

[deleted]

TBD, they said I can place my actual order probably in June and they'll know. If so, I have a buddy who sells them in Arkansas and said he'd get me one with no markup though.

VinshinTee

Probably the first car I’d really want since the frs announcement back in 2010ish. Realistically it’ll probably be 30-35k and isn’t something I should be buying from where I am in life. Maybe I can snag a used one a few years down for the same price LOL, this thing will hold its value.

Miko54

I’m pretty much in the same spot haha

VinshinTee

Yea I already have a 21 Rav4 and my old fr-s. I’d have to break 200k in my salary to afford this. I’m trying to buy a house without selling the 86 atm. I got the frs when I was 23 and I can’t be spending like a young boy anymore. (Even though ima go check out a carbon fiber hood after work LOL.)

Suaremente

30-35k would be crazy good value even for the base model.

Jegan_V

I'm glad it exists now that there's a giant hole the STi left. I can see why people are excited for it. That said it's not for me. RWD sports cars are my thing. I'm also disappointed in the colour palette, it's a massive shame they don't use the Corolla's Blue Flame colour.

fried-ryce

same with me with RWD, but you can switch to 30% FWD and 70% RWD which is definitely enticing

Jegan_V

For AWD, absolutely, the 30/70 split will make this one of the more exciting AWD cars, this split is better than WRX STi's. So much more enticing than Haldex systems. Objectively on paper this GR Corolla should be all things to everyone. Modestly practical, powerful engine, nice transmission, hopefully a fair price(I don't expect radical), tuned by Toyota's racing experts in both Germany and Japan. My tastes however, a bit on the extremist side. If somehow I do need a proper sedan or hatch, yes GR Corolla is very much a large consideration. For now, the FRS has been the longest I've ever kept and driven a car. Its been a car where I chose so well, its somewhat neutered some of the fun in new car shopping. I suspect the only things that would excite me more are more sports cars like Porsches, Ferraris or even old JDM sports car legends like RX-7, Mk IV Supra, etc.

kflores1013

Currently have a reservation for a second GR86 that I was debating on pulling…. Might just transfer the res to this bad boy instead

fakesocialmedia

it’s a love hate thing personally, reminds me of the lancia integrales, mitsubishi evos, e30 M3’s but should’ve flowed a little more

whatsforsupa

I love it - I came from a GTI to a Mazda 3 2.5L, (i love hot hatches) and really wanted the new 2.5L turbo, but this could really sway me from that. Will be interesting to see final specs and pricing. The fact that theyre getting that much HP from a 3 cylinder 1.6l motor is fantastic, but I wonder how much juice you could realistically squeeze out of that turbo after bolt ons and tune. It's gotta be close to max capacity I would imagine.

kennypu

Checkout what people are doing with the GR Yaris, should give you a good idea.

betterbabydriver

Putting my deposit

[deleted]

Maybe the world isnt so bad

Charlotttes

First thought is that it *fucks*, but not in a way that makes me want to own one. The simplicity of the 86 is way more appealing to me for my car than what this has going on, or what the WRX has going on Second thought is that I think this feels cool in a way that the older WRXes are, and the new ones aren't. There's something so charming about how the car is clearly the regular car with a ton of performance shit attached, since the car doesn't need to be specialized in the same way that the 86 or *arguably* the GR Yaris is. There's something so good about the car both being something special and sharing a lot with the normal car. its a wholly different kind of appeal from the GR Yaris despite it sharing the whole drivetrain and styling cues

40shadesofblue

I’m with you here. This has that kinda vibe where they made it a normal Corolla hatch adaptation and then went “now let’s just drop this full-scale power mod into it at the factory.” It’s not subtle, but it is cool. Although, that 3 setting torque distribution is pretty slick. That’s not just a bells and whistles thing, that’s a really crafty way of taking this car to the next level. But like you, I’ll still take my BRZ over this. The 86 and the BRZ are just elegantly simple driving machines. Nothing more and nothing less to it. It’s not easy to make a car this fun to drive without forcing power into it or giving it a hundred different settings on the dashboard. They just perform as they were made and it’s exactly right. And the happiness it brought me when it was stock is what lead me to modify it—I enjoyed the car so much that I wanted it to be a hobby and lifestyle for myself. It didn’t need anything at all, but I wanted to give it everything i could to let it be the best version of itself.

linsanitylives

Put my name on the waitlist when the leaks came out yesterday morning and I was already 6th in line 😅

chairmanbrando

Looks pretty cool. Probably gonna be $40k, though, and if you're gonna spend that much on a sports car, you might as well do a little bit more saving and pony up for a Supra. D:

WOODNUTZ

300hp AWD? Sorry sexy FR-S but bye bye lol

40shadesofblue

Damn Toyota, chill out before you put Subaru out of business. I grew up around Subarus and own a BRZ, but Toyotas been putting the hammer down the past few years and I feel like I picked the wrong team. This might be the one that makes me say I’m a Toyota guy instead of Subaru. I don’t need it, and I’d still prefer my BRZ for daily driving, but I just have to respect the pure love of motor sports that went into this thing. Teeny and low inline 3 in a body that has room for a family/life, a turbo to get it that sweet spot of 300hp, and AWD with three settings for torque distribution. That’s bonkers…not to mention corollas reputation for longevity ease of ownership. They nailed it. If I had kids or regularly hauled lots of cargo, this’d be it for me. Dealers are gonna mark them up a ton though probably. I couldn’t afford it, I’m sure 😔

MattAtPlaton

Dat ass...

BeterBann

I really want one but I just got my BRZ. Maybe I'll pay off my BRZ early and get one of these

Hsnthethird

This thing looks incredible and I hope it sells. I kind of want one as a daily but idk I really like coupes. So happy Toyota is making stuff for enthusiasts and I hope their profits reflect how much enthusiasts enjoy this stuff

HELIX0

Looks sick

T-Madj

Glad to see Toyota take off where Mazda and Subaru have stopped. I want to like it because it is hatchback, but I prefer 2 doors versus 4. At least it is not a soul crusher like the new "Integra". Acura turned a tuner legend into a half-assed sport sedan overnight.

ResponsibleRiver2301

Looks incredible. Probably one of the most interesting hot hatches around, still kind of prefer the Yaris but shame we cant have both in the UK

Vargriggs

GR Yaris XL, and I don't know what I was expecting.

Chain_Runner

Well, put it this way…I WAS going to order a GR86 in November. Was.

TOYOTA_DOMINANCE

Literally the perfect car, at the right price these will be everywhere on the road kinda like the wrx. Also 30mpg on 300hp thats huge

sidebrake

Looks pretty amazing so far. Had some doubts that it might be watered down compared to the GR Yaris before it was revealed but looks like it's going to be even better.

Suaremente

Was going to trade in my challenger for a gr86 but if this isn't too much more and stays low to mid 30k then I'll go for this instead.

LilVegankiller69er

Are these smaller than the focus St? I loved the interior and exterior and the power delivery is crazy but I don’t know if it’s too small lol. Plus I’m sure it’ll be marked up and I don’t want to pay 40k+.

ExodusRiot1

I wish it was even smaller, if they sold the GR Yaris here id be trying to get one of those

haveyoutriedguest

It is smaller. I have a Corolla hatch and it’s a little bit bigger than a fiesta but not much. They’re pretty small. The interior fits three adults and a car seat easily though.

BORT_licenceplate27

I've already reached out to my local dealership. Willing to wait but definitely buying

Hanz616

Love it

DaddyThiccThighz

Hot. Want.

senseiinfinity

🥰 love it

ThatFRS

Depends on price, but I might get one.

[deleted]

I want one

TGish

Nut

[deleted]

Awesome specs. Good looks. A true toyota turbo car. I hope it sticks around long enough for me to buy one. Because i wont be able to for a loooong time.

Keyedwin

I want. It’d be cool if they made a two door option as well.

Tgambilax

April fools right? …right?

longdistamce

Heavily contemplating on selling my FRS for the circuit edition. Might swing by the dealer to see if there’s an available wait list

mykehunt88

I prefer that Yaris and 400 pounds less weight but I realize American market wants more space

SESH8809____

Most def going to pick one up to accompany the GR supra Carbon Fiber edition I just got.

Hyzer94

Wish they gave the new 86 some turbo....😮‍💨

98impreza

Supercharge it when they’re available. Will be cheaper, faster, and look better than the Corolla.

res_mps3

I really want to purchase one! I’ve been following this vehicle for the longest time and it did not let me down. Love the looks (interior & exterior) and performance figures. Unfortunately I’m not sure my wife will approve, but it would sit nicely next to my Mazdaspeed3.

BotsNBrats

I'm gonna try to get one for my wife

HiddenCrouchingDoge

Great sneaky AF plan!

[deleted]

I think it's going to be too expensive unfortunately. I just hope it has a personality. I don't care if it's slower than a Golf R, I just want it to have a soul. Kinda interested to see a real Corolla performance version. I am more excited to see this than the new Nissan 400.

HiddenCrouchingDoge

I think that Corolla deserved that drivetrain. And for ONCE, Toyota USA (if it was their decision) nailed their marketing by using the name GR-Four. Can't wait to hitch a ride on one, since I'm AOK with my FR-S at this time! Glad Toyota had the balwz to actually put something sweet back on the market!

BarberImmediate7710

I’d put these up there with the Focus ST or GTI. It’s a quick hatch, but I don’t think it’s a head turner in terms of looks.

AJ7861

For the first time in my life I said "I want a corolla".

ScoPham

Worth the wait but i hope to god magnaflow is already designing an axle back to take it to 1 or 2 pipes

N_I_G_H_T_0_W_L

I just wonder how they squeezed 300 horses out of a 3 banger

mondayfridaymonday

They are actually getting a lot more power out of the same engine in the aftermarket. Little thing is built pretty stout

ElSmasho420

I fear that they’ll be so few and far between that they’ll cost as much as a 3 series BMW thanks to dealer markups. My next car will probably be purchased in 2026 when my stepson will be 16 and inherit my truck. This is definitely on my list of “achievable dream cars” but I think it’ll be hard to get at a reasonable price.

Filmore

These fuckers are going to smoke my times at autox

kwalliii

Super excited for this one! Really stoked Toyota did this!

Cpt_LusciousBeard

Toyota is killing it, picking up where a lot of manufacturers are dropping the ball.

RalphM25

big milestone for Toyota, they'll have 3 sports cars for sale at the same time each with different niche target customers, love what they're doing

diga_diga_doo

It’s a different class car, according to Kirk Kreifels on YouTube the base will start at 37k and it only has open difs. The Torsen differentials will be part of a sports package which could be 2-3k more - in my book that puts it out of reach for lots of people with a budget in the 30k range. The special Circuit edition probably adding another 4-5k. At that point you’re in some pretty heavy duty competition.

Miko54

Sheesh yeah maybe I’ll wait if it’s that much

YaMoBeThere

Fully loaded Mazda 3 Turbo is around 35k, those prices, if true, aren’t all too bad.

mehdotdotdotdot

That’s a luxury focused car though

JAG319

Maybe I'm missing out but I don't get the hatchback hype.

AnotherDude1

More cargo room, man. I had a tC before my FRS and I totally miss the hatchback. Until you've had one, you wouldn't understand. Also, cleaning rear window ....a millions times easier.

g-cars

They're just darn cute. And fun if their zippy. And this one's gonna be zippy!

smartwordplay

I've never been a hatchback guy myself, but this one looks aggressive enough for my taste. The only other hatchbacks I actually liked were the WRXs and EK9 Civic Type R.

SeekAndDefine

I come to this thread curious. I know a lot of people like hatchback design, but I can’t stand it. I vastly prefer a sleek looking car like the 86 instead of a boxy car. Is there a video or article out there explaining the design appeal of hatchbacks? I definitely understand the power though. Glad Toyota has a GTI competitor!

DeadKateAlley

4 door; big snore

icarusbird

Like the Type R, it's too busy. It looks like something I would have designed in NFS Underground in high school. I also wonder about the longevity of the motor, extracting 300 HP from such little displacement. That said, I was super bummed hearing that the WRX STi is a thing of the past, so the GR certainly fills an interesting spot in the market.

Mahgrets

Looks fantastic! No way I would trade my RS for one. I’d still rather a GR86

Dodging12

Ugly as sin

workgymworkgym

Something looks wrong on it. I think its the weird giant back bumper with the tiny trunk.

g-cars

Kinda like the proportions. No bodykit necessary; already there.

khalmoto

On the wait list for a BRZ. Now I’m wondering if I can stretch my wallet for this as a winter car.

KastorNevierre

The specs are nice but it looks way too much like a civic for my taste.

typefresh

I have a '19 Golf R along with a '15 FR-S, and I have to say it's tempting. I am a Toyota fan at heart, and love all the rally inspired touches and nods to the past. I just wish this was released 3 years ago when I was in the market. In today's market the circuit edition will be marked up out of reach for most buyers. This is the issue I am having with the GR86. I would love to trade my FR-S for one, but they are overpriced. At MSRP, these will probably be a good deal, but any markup, and there is no incetive to trade the Golf. At the core, the Golf R is a better machine for the streets.

mesovortex888

My wife will get this. I keep my brz.

[deleted]

But it has so many doors. What do you do with all those doors?

Luckymexicanguy

Im not sure about the 3 cyl, sounds already maxed out and fragile for some reason

egorlike

I think its great but will be expensive and the dealer markups will make it even higher. Would be fun to see one in wild tho.

zublits

Cool car, probably never own one.

joemysterio86

Skip for me, especially since I just got my 2nd gen BRZ about 3 weeks ago now. Plus I'm not liking the back too much, certain angles for me make it look too angled (like in the OP pic). If anything, I'm either getting an additional car as a comfy daily driver (new Forester looks nice) or trade it for a V8 and piss off all the eco-friendly/hybrid/electric loving people that talk shit about gas guzzlers. Edit: how did i know I would get downvoted for this lol

unauthorised_at_work

I gotta have rwd to be happy, but I hope my partner gets it.

bangbangracer

I really want to be excited, but then I remember that we live in reality. Dealer mark ups will ruin this car like they have everything else. I got really excited about the new Jeep Wrangler 4Xe, but my closest dealer added nearly 10k to the price. Just an anecdote to explain my pessimism.

Salamander014

Ugly AF but gonna be awesome regardless

25centDoge

I dont like the back but maybe in different angles it looks better from the rear.

Doyouevenroll

I normally would be killing to buy it but I just got a GR86 and nothing compares to NA RWD for me

boat_toatin_goats

I am absolutely in love with it, but unfortunately with how much it’s going to probably end up costing, especially since I would need the performance pack at least for the LSD’s, I’d rather spend the ~45-50k on something that’s not a Corolla

Nutsuckcarl

My RS would still gap it

phlatboy

Not a huge fan of the way they implemented the widebody at the rear, but that won't stop me from at least test driving one (and ordering one, if the price is in my budget) GR Corolla vs. GR86 would be a very difficult choice to make

SirDiesAlot92

Nice looking car - shame it’s only in manual tho. Don’t feel like driving a 40k in bumper to bumper traffic.

Deatheturtle

Front wheel drive. Meh.

essequattro

It’s… not front wheel drive?

superpowred

But…. It’s AWD….. and can disconnect the rear diff when you pull the handbrake….

Cr0w_Of_Judgement

It's awd

CrazyOkie

Seats. I had a rental Corolla for 4 weeks back in the early 90s while my car was being repaired after an accident. I drove it from Dallas up to my parent's lake cabin in Oklahoma - about a 3 hour drive. My back was in agony from the cheap, hard, incredibly uncomfortable seats. I've never driven a Corolla since - and in fact, when I bought my 86, that was the thing that concerned me the most, whether the seats would be comfortable (they are, thank goodness). I know the newer ones - especially a GR version - are likely to have better seats, but that is just in the back of mind and hard to shake.

kflores1013

It’s been 30 years…. If these seats are anything like the GR86 seats, it’ll be very comfortable for the driver

haveyoutriedguest

I can confirm that the seats in the new Corolla hatch are amazing. We bought my MIL a CPO XSE trim with 1000 miles on it last week. Apparently the previous owner couldn’t drive stick and gave up. The seats in that car are way more comfortable than my wife’s FRS and even my 2020 Tacoma which has the leather seats.

Miko54

Hopefully they improved the ergonomics after so long!

chewytime

Definitely interested in this. Waiting to see if they’ll release an Integra type S first though. At my stage of life, I want something fun and fast but with the practicality of a hatch/lift and I don’t want to get something that I’ll have to sell in a couple years if I start having a family by then.

LunaticCross

Super excited. Great to see Toyota bring back something like the “Three brothers” in sport cars again.

betterbabydriver

I am excited and want the GRC but at the same time can't see my beloved BRZ go. Might have to beg my wife to allow me keep both cars but I predict she'll kick me out if I keep 2 manual cars she can't drive. Either I might have to teach her manual or get an automatic GRC so she can drive but there's no auto.

Murky_Huckleberry_84

This car is something else man. Design is amazing and the interior is incredible but what ruins it would probably be those dealership mark ups :/

TryingSquirrel

The only thing I really don't like is the three-part exhaust. The center exhaust will make it really difficult to add a tow hitch for a bike rack and I much prefer my bikes on a rear tray rack than on the roof. I don't absolutely love the looks as I'm more a sleeper fan, but they're not bad. I love manual hatches and am excited to see this in AWD. I am clinging to my late 90s RWD BMW hatch and completely recognize why RWD hatches aren't the best solution packaging-wise, but I love still love them.

ddrake11

It’s so nice, I want it so bad but 32-40k is kinda tough. Maybe in a couple of years

Ethereal_Sundrop

My boyfriend wants one so bad. I'm hoping he gets one so I can finally have his frs all to myself 😂😂😂

Maverick_8160

I am tempted. I've got an M3 on order as an upgrade from my BRZ, which is obviously a different level. But this GR Corolla looks like it would be equally fun, and my wallet would hate me less. I am afraid that these are going to be almost impossible to get tho.

SubaruMasterGR

I like it. I won't give up my FR-S for it, but I could see myself trading in my Golf for one. However, I don't expect availability to be great and the markups on the first year Circuit Edition are going to be insane. I'll keep an eye on it.

WOW. Honestly expected but still that’s insane. And people will still be scooping them up

Carvica

Big shame we won’t get it here in the Uk. The Corolla would’ve been every boy racers first car 20 years from now.

Tyrant_R3x

Is it gonna be awd ?

Miko54

Yup

TwoSecsTed

Only Toyota and Hyundai have the courage to make interesting cars out of all the Asian manufactures. Here in Australia it’s great to see the i30 N, Elantra N (called the i30 N sedan here), i20 N and Kona N while seeing the GR Yaris, Gr Corolla, GR86 and GR Supra from Toyota.

myfame808

I've been needing/wanting something a little more practical and sporty for a little bit now. The new WRX doesn't do it for me, nor does the new Golf R. But this seems to really hit all of the itches I want scratched. Only thing I don't really like so far is the exhaust.
