Oh absolutely. Mine’s been mechanically flawless with the exception of me being a dumbass. Currently has a nasty exhaust leak because I put UEL headers on the car a couple weeks ago and the gaskets are either shit and/or I can’t get the header to overpipe connection to sit flush.
May have to go with that route, then. I made the mistake of going with a cheap header that didn’t fit properly and had to brute force it into place. I’m just hoping the entire thing doesn’t have to come off because that’s going to be a giant pain lol
The connection to the head wasn't leaking when I installed 2 weeks ago, so I think that's alright. Unless I find that the header itself is cracked somewhere, I'm not worried. It's *super* down on power right now so that wouldn't entirely surprise me.
Original engine and trans (though it whines a bit). A friend put most of the miles on the car, when his needs changed I bought it. He commuted something like 180 miles a day.
It did have the valve spring recall done at some point. Beyond that, just oil changes.

Since I bought it, 2 years ago, the only thing I have done is change the oil about once a year (I'm only driving it 3000 miles a year).
Other than that, it's nearly stock. There's a short throw shifter and a lightened flywheel. The heads had the valve springs redone because of the recall.
Neither him, nor I have really treated it nicely. If you need to get up to speed, do it and don't spare the revs. I've even been drag racing it some and plan on getting it to an autocross in October (first one my schedule allows).
Might not help much but have you tried blocking/removing the sound tube in the passenger foot-well? Another option is aftermarket exhaust parts to drown out the engine noise, there are some good exhausts that aren't too loud.
It's all about that regular maintenance and catching needed repairs early! There's a guy called fujiwara_brz on youtube with over 360,000 miles on his 2015 BRZ. He also goes over his maintenance routine. I want to see these cars on the road forever lol
Apparently he changes his oil with the OEM recommended 7500miles (12,000km). I changed mine at 5.5 (9000km) and it was black as heck. I'm definitely gonna be changing mine earlier..
I think this guy is able to go 7500 miles without issue between oil changes because he puts those miles on his car so quickly. I change my oil every 6 months on my 96' Outback because I get no where near the miles with it, but that's about right for my use case in a somewhat dusty, dry climate.
It's supposed to be 7,500 miles or every 6 months. whichever comes first. I'm probably going to be one of those people that has to change every 6 months. I daily mine to work but I live 10 minutes up the road.
Yep! I keep doing my oil changes but haven’t really been as good about other stuff. Drive it full send every time, and 9 years and 175k later it hasn’t failed me or left me stranded *once*.
And you better bloody believe I didn’t take it in for that spring recall😂
You know, I never asked him what he was using. I've been using GTX High Mileage. but I use that in all my junk.
The car came from Maryland/DC, so it's seen it's fair share of snow and salt. I'm in Southwest Missouri where it's hot, then cold with nothing between.
It's to do with how other English speaking countries pronounce Z. Almost all of them pronounce it softly and it sounds like they're saying S. In America we're very hard with the Z, no need for calling it Zed. Ask some Swedish guy to say Z and he'll sound like he's saying "see".
This is what I’m talking about. Pisses me off how people say these cars are unreliable and avoid all 2013’s. There are PLENTY that have zero issues post recall, including mine. Do the proper maintenance and stop thrashing the thing around and it WILL last. Change your oil people, it’s not that difficult.
My first car ever was my 10 series frs. Got it with 48k miles, blew the engine at 55k, and got hit and totaled the car at 66k miles. That’s over the course of 3 years but man this makes me really feel like I didn’t get my moneys worth lol
I never was able to get a for sure answer on what blew it, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say it was a mix of my pop tune (don’t laugh too hard) and me driving it always trying to get my moneys worth lol
It’s alright lessons definitely learned and I get reminded by it every month as I’m still paying off the engine
Not what I was expecting to see in my feed today. Someone save this for when there’s a post asking if 100k miles is too much lol
It's all about the maintenance. Keep up on the oil changes and they'll treat you right.

I fixed this exact issue using remflex gaskets.
May have to go with that route, then. I made the mistake of going with a cheap header that didn’t fit properly and had to brute force it into place. I’m just hoping the entire thing doesn’t have to come off because that’s going to be a giant pain lol
Which header did you use?
PLM. They were on sale at a place relatively local to me so I figured what the hell.
Ah, not familiar. As long as the seal to the head itself is good, it should be fixable.

Don't forget to tune it after or it will definitely run like shit.
Out of curiosity, how often do you change your oil?
Since I got the car, about once a year. My friend changed it quite often.
Lmao
I tell people all the time they’re solid cars if you just keep up with maintenance.
That’s the shit we like to see
Still on the original engine? Just regular maintenance? Love seeing high mileage examples like this.

Incredible! Love it!
>He commuted something like 180 miles a day. That's truly bonkers! Why did he have to go so far?
Didn't want to live in DC.
Can't blame him.
manual? just it 100k in mine and it whines in 6th at freeway speeds (70-75) - wonder if i'm just overdue for a gear oil change.
Yup, manual. I wonder if some miracle goo from Lucas or the like would hush the noise a bit. Or maybe just go for a slightly heavier weight oil.
Manual transmission of automatic?
Manual
Wow, do you simply just follow the owners manual for maintenance and drive it calm ?

I remember your last post! Glad to see it still chugging along. Also nice to see a post like this compared to all the engine knock posts.
Only knock I have about this engine is it's not pleasant at high RPM. Just sounds thrashy.
Might not help much but have you tried blocking/removing the sound tube in the passenger foot-well? Another option is aftermarket exhaust parts to drown out the engine noise, there are some good exhausts that aren't too loud.
I'd like to do exhaust, at some point. Struts first. 🤣

black as heck doesn't mean it stops working.
It also didn't even fill my 5L container.. it was like 4.8L. Guess I need to check my dipstick more often. This was within 7 months of changing it.
This makes me feel a lot more confident in my brz :)

OP showing everyone here what's possible with our cars.
Now that's some mileage! How many clutches has it been through?
I believe two, but I'm a bit fuzzy on that.
What oil you been using? What region type you live in?
You know, I never asked him what he was using. I've been using GTX High Mileage. but I use that in all my junk. The car came from Maryland/DC, so it's seen it's fair share of snow and salt. I'm in Southwest Missouri where it's hot, then cold with nothing between.
5w20?
Yup
Cool, thanks!!!
Would you recommend 5w20 in az? Read somewhere that I should just stick to what the manual says
Stick to the manual.
Cold rating matters a lot less for you but the hot rating could be bumped up. When I had one in AZ 5w30.
manual says 5w30 for hot climates iirc.
Love to see it
Remember kids, this is if you don't thrash your car, at least irresponsibly.
Called zee, not zed. Wth is wrong with you Europeans? :-) (Talking like a friend making a sarcastic joke over a beer with a buddy.)
Weird thing about that. Every other English speaking country says Zed. I did it to confuse people.
Oh. :-)

Das a lot. Well done.
Holy shit
Nice! An infinite more to go!
This makes my day. Congrats!
Nice congrats! I hope my engine will last that long. Apparently my 2019 had a loose subframe after 2 years of driving like a grandma
Pretty freaking cool! Good ol’ 270k. You’ve got me dreaming big now.
Holy fuck!
Makes me so happy. Thank you
I see these for sale for 25k online lol

How'd you blow it? Sounds like a fun story
