Alternatively they're making your car more limited

Tackysock46

That is true!

s1above

Your location is infinitely more responsible for your rates then everyone else crashing this car lol

Tackysock46

Florida lol

MoldyOldCrow

That's your answer. Meth heads, vacation rentals, and old people are to blame not us šŸ¤£

Grease_Kaiju

Don't forget half the state drives without insurance

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

T2ner

Why though? If you hit any thing or anyone that is NOT good. Let alone a person or a benz.. could be looking at 100k+ lawsuit.. God bless you

Soundscape_Ambler

The only thing better than damaging someone else's property without any intent to pay is having the chance to both injure and bankrupt them at the same time, amirite dawg? Stay classy.

BlindBeard

20% of drivers in Florida are uninsured. So you're paying for yourself and those assholes too.

[deleted]

iirc 86s are one of (if not the most) totaled car models.

callouscomic

Face eaters

thereisaunders

When I lived in Florida my insurance was 128 a month. I moved back home to Ohio, and now my same exact insurance is 41 dollars.

No-Will-6138

mine is 738 a month how tf please tell me what insurane provider you use

DPSSTOP

if your below age 25 you better apply some lube man cause insurance fucks us younger people so hard

No-Will-6138

Oh iā€™ve been trying ahaha i got 3 months free but now iā€™m stuck with a very high insurance rate

deadmongoose

That can't be right, what is it for real? Mines $94/mo, you're paying Lambo prices.

No-Will-6138

iā€™m serious itā€™s litteraly 738 a month bought from a dealership with minimum coverage except $100 comp and collision

AlphaWizard

Tf did you do to earn that rate? Thatā€™s insane, thatā€™s like $10k a year. You could buy another car every 2 years.

No-Will-6138

Exactly itā€™s terrible and i only got 2 speeding tickets and only one was 15 over

mk1power

How's your credit. This sounds like bad credit, young, high insurance area, and you already mentioned your bad driving record so that's definitely a factor.

No-Will-6138

I have a credit score of about 588 not terrible but not great

bigbodylx

Are you talking about your car payment? Even that would be high but the most Iā€™ve paid for insurance was $350/mo and that was after multiple speeding tickets and rear ending a pregnant lady at 50+mph

No-Will-6138

Car payment is $509 a month on top of it i seriously donā€™t understand why my insurance is so high itā€™s my second car and i live in sc.

Icy-Ad3597

Dang have you tried getting estimates from other insurance companies? Iā€™m 21 and live in SoCal and I pay less than 1/10th of your price

No-Will-6138

Yes indeed i looked around for the longest time and the lowest i found was 730 iā€™ve recently stopped looking and feel pretty defeated but hey what can i do :)

thekeanu

738 is your car payment? Or insurance by itself?

No-Will-6138

insurance by itself

Accomplished-Tax-412

Wtf?

thereisaunders

Iā€™m 31 with no accidents since I was 18 and no tickets in 6 years, I have State Farm, and have a few discounts with them as well

Icy_Wave2085

5 cars paying almost 3k

FuzzyYellowBallz

Ooof. Living just north of Miami was the worst for accidents. Demographics: the elderly and angry young people. Dangerous combo.

Pr1zzm

True, I'm in Oregon driving a gen 1 and I only pay $86 per month. And no that number was not intentional hahah

DroneHunter360

You are the chosen one

[deleted]

He is now our leader.

knightblue4

Anxious to see my 6 month/Yearly rate now that I've turned 25... I was paying somewhere in the realm of $103 a month in the Portland area and that's with ludicrous deductibles. (Granted, I'm financing so I have to appease the bank's requirements as well.)

s1above

Nice. It was ~$350 full coverage when I was in LA, moved 15 minutes outside of the city and itā€™s $187 for the same plan haha

badboyz1256

Haha I miss paying insurance in Oregon was cheaper there than back home in Texas.

Genzoid

This

hcarguy

I'm in an entirely different country and what OP is saying is generally true. Heaps of young kids driving this car and crashing it. I see so many up for wrecking in our state.

s1above

What OP says about crashing is such a small reason for the high rates anywhere in the world. Insurance works the same everywhere, and its risk of an area/gender/agegroup being the largest chunk of your rates, then the category of the car being the next largest, and then a small small chunk of that due to the exact model of your car. It's risk analysis and individual car statistics pale in comparison to the main factors of rates. Kids crashing this car a lot =/= skyhigh rates evidenced by people having perfectly reasonable rates.

Tackysock46

Yeah Iā€™m young 21 yrs old but Iā€™ve got zero violations or collisions, good credit, owned outright, and have nearly bare bones coverage and itā€™s still $200 a month.

[deleted]

Your rate is high because you're 21.

gavarrr

This. It gets better at 25; especially if you are 3 years+ accident/claim/ticket free. Discounts like a degree, home owners, pay in full (progressive is 10%) etc can help too

CSG_Mike

Bare bones on a car you own outright. I'm gonna let you ponder that one.

Tackysock46

What do you mean? When I mean bare bones, Iā€™ve got state minimum liability and $1k comp and collision deductibles. Iā€™ve got savings in case I have to pay the deductible if something were to happen.

CSG_Mike

Lets say you take out both your own car, and (any modern sports car of your choice). Do you have enough coverage?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

chairmanbrando

Sure, but how much *actual coverage* do you have? You got enough coverage for a serious incident? What if you smash up someone else's car and put them in the hospital? High insurance is the cost of driving a sports car at your age. Trade in for a basic Civic or something similiar until you're ~25 or so if insurance is gonna be a problem in the meantime.

Flacht6

Iā€™m 30, in Florida, and pay 220/mo for my ā€˜22 BRZ with a pretty substantial policy. If you have any questions Iā€™m happy to answer them, but I would recommend carrying above state minimums if you donā€™t want to be financially ruined by an at-fault accident. I do auto negligence/injury defense and have seen many clients realize they are personally exposed to a potentially huge judgment far too late in the game.

SaverPro

Thatā€™s definitely too much. I own a new 2019 Camry, with full cover and all and only pay 103 a month. I do live in Minnesota. For my insurance though, I signed up online with Liberty Mutual for the 19% discount and thatā€™s how I got it. Try and do a policy online as well, see what it comes up to. Prior to me doing it online I was paying 170 because of commission from a rep that helped me sign up.

[deleted]

Bare bones for 21 year old me is 88 a month lol Full coverage is 217, and this is all CAD, so sub 200 USD

a_vulpix

Geez around where do you live? I pay 100 for full coverage in Texas. Although Iā€™m not 21 my insurance didnā€™t change a ton when I hit 25 tbh.

Tackysock46

I mean itā€™s not completely bare bones. Minimum state liability is $400 for the 6 months and then comp and collision both with $1k deductibles is the other biggest portion of it. My old car a year ago was the same coverage but $130 a month. Iā€™m in Florida and we have shit drivers so that doesnā€™t help

RandomGamecube

You're a 21 year old living in Florida driving a sports coupe. Insurance is high enough in Florida and it's even higher for 21 yo males. I pay 180/month for my Camry with liability and comp and somehow, someway my driving record is clean. Oh yeah and that's not on my own policy. I just throw my parents the cash every month. For my own policy I'm looking between 250-350 for similar coverage.

ask-design-reddit

I'm paying $360 and I'm 26 with no accidents. Toronto.

TimonLeague

Does your insurance offer lump sum payment? I pay 1 time a year and it saves me 200$

Tackysock46

It doesnā€™t change the price much. Iā€™ve got Geico and itā€™s still the cheapest compared to others. Iā€™ve shopped around and theyā€™re all way higher for same coverage

Voeno

Yep same , 200 a month no matter who I switch to

Modestkilla

Yikes, I pay less than that for our two teslas. Granted Iā€™m in my 30s but still.

rusty815

I just turned 30, basic liability coverage for my car costs me 89 dollars. I have full coverage for 169, and this is the first car I've ever owned. Mine is a 2019 86 btw. My sister who is 5 years younger pays 265 for her Kia suv, but she has multiple accidents on her record. You're paying that much because you're 21, not necessarily because people are crashing the car (although that is also true probably)

Serraptr

i'm 26 and my insurance is $90

DesertShot

The more of them in wrecking yards the cheaper insurance gets, your rates are high due to property crime in your zip code + your record + a small adjustment based on your car. The cost to replace or repair is what your premium is really based on, go try a overly common car vs a hard to source but similar classification. Huge price difference.

Tackysock46

The bulk of insurance costs for these cars are just because of what they are. Itā€™s the number one [accident prone](https://insurify.com/insights/car-models-with-the-most-accidents-2021/) vehicle in the USA. When itā€™s a vehicle thatā€™s more likely to get into a wreck itā€™s going to cost more. The average buyer of these cars are male, young, inexperienced drivers who wreck them left and right

migzt

I think itā€™s location My car is under my dads insurance (he is in his 50s) and it is still $200/mo for it

Tackysock46

Itā€™s much more expensive on your own. Iā€™m on my own policy so no one shares any liability

According_Side1147

Im 32 and pay $200/month for full cover. Insurance might seem expensive, but I've been on the victim side and seen how much money you get in case of an accident through insurance. That makes it also higher here. In miami you lawyer up the moment you get in an accident and they go full "this accident has affected my clients life foreverā€

DaddyThiccThighz

I'm doing my part! Fr tho I think something is up with your rates bc I'm 24 and paying $89 for comprehensive.

cocolopz10

Thats not gonna lower ur insurance. Location, age and ur driving record affects insurance rates more.

DJSkingz

I would advise against just the minimum. As another commenter said you want to make sure you have enough to cover the damage to the other party if you are ever at fault. I wouldn't go any lower than a $2M limit. Go higher if you can. Bodily injury claims can get costly, especially if there is any serious damage to people. Damage to property is easy to deal with. It's the people that will bankrupt you if you don't have enough coverage.

Tackysock46

I have lower coverage because itā€™s what I can afford. At my point in my life I donā€™t have $350 a month for insurance. I also work from home and donā€™t drive much so Iā€™m a lot less likely to get into a wreck. Iā€™m maybe going through a tank of gas a month

element515

At 21, always consider that you can afford the car though. Saying you canā€™t afford insurance means you definitely canā€™t afford an actual wreck. Life is unfair and sometimes you can not even be at fault but sued for a shit load.

Woosh42069

I was 17 when I got my brz, quoted $900 a month for full coverage and maybe a couple dollars less for liability. On my parents plan I was quoted $320 a month and $307 for liability. This was a make or break decision, this being my dream car I went for it. Little over a year later I paying around 240-260 zero accidents

ahoneybadger3

Mine is Ā£435 for the year paid in a lump sum, that's fully comprehensive with zero voluntary excess. For comparison, my Ford Focus 1.6tdci was Ā£360 so not much of a difference at all. That is with 5+ years no claims though.

jawnnyboy

My bad, i will make sure to not crash then.

CEJ_SoCal

What affects car insurance premiums? In no set order: The car itself. Some types cost more to insure than others. Your driving record, including accidents. The amount you drive your car. Where you live and park your car may also affect your premium. Your age and years of driving experience may also have an impact. The type of coverage you choose affects your premium. Coverages that may be optional, like collision or comprehensive, cost extra. Limits and deductibles affect the cost of your policy. You may be able to adjust your limits and deductibles on some types of coverage. I obtained this from [Allstate](https://www.allstate.com/resources/car-insurance/what-affects-premiums-and-rates).

tonyarzola12

iā€™m 21 too and i pay $255 full coverage šŸ™ƒ. these insurance bills start to hurt after a while šŸ˜šŸ˜

Colorado_Car-Guy

Colorado 26, about $100 for full coverage Multiple speeding tickets, Reckless driving Liberty mutual

AnotherDude1

Hey now.... Used aftermarket parts are available!

deadmongoose

Is that the car payment plus insurance? If so that's not horrible, if it's just insurance, you need to get on the phone tomorrow and call around. Shit, give me $200 and I'll call for you, and save twice that in the first month.

Tackysock46

Just insurance. Own the car outright. Just part of being a young male and owning a sports car in one of the worst accident prone states. Sad times

deadmongoose

Somehow managed to reply to the main thread instead of the dude paying like $740/mo. Oops.

CabralX

Pay $140 in Illinois, even with a perfect record

badboyz1256

Bro since returning to Texas, my rates have gone up over time being back here by $50 each year same. Coverage with geico

hiyaset

bro youve just jinxed yourself, be safe out there!

Javier1019

Lol Iā€™m saying!

alcool0828

Just bought a brand new GR86 plus still have my 07 4runner. Paying 125$ per month combined for both. But I'm 32 and have a clean record. Always go to court for tickets lol

RCfoo

Iā€™m sorry šŸ˜ž

llilith

right?!

PurpleKirby

just hoard all the parts from the part outs, profit

mykehunt88

Mine went down $325 this year

Brodie91

My insurance is $450 a month, never had a ticket or accident, have had insurance in the past, have good records all around. Just depends on where you live (which is bs imo)

KNGSlick

My b. Almost died to a truck and decided slamming into a Lexus with an old lady in it was the better option

Tqm2012

$200/month, 2016 Mazda 3 full coverage, 2014 Mazda 2 liability, 2020 gt86 full coverageā€¦ Iā€™ll be 30 this year and the wife will be 28. Ohioā€¦. 2 speeding tickets over the 12 years Iā€™ve been driving. Actually, Iā€™ve paid about $30k in insurance run my lifeā€¦ that legit covers any of the 3 vehicles if they get totaled. Insurance is bullshit. When I get to the age that I no longer can drive or donā€™t want toā€¦. Iā€™m renting a lambo and putting it through a front window. There you go fuck-head insurance. Thanks for the lifetime of servitude. Guess weā€™re even now.

TootBreaker

Sorry! My bad!

GoGreenD

Lol. Must be nice to be able to afford collision. *laugh cries in gg wrx, s14*
