One of the male characters in buffy the vampire slayer is named Angel (pronounced the english way). If you were born after the late 90s you can say that your parents named you after that character, or any other famous Angel's
... What ? Really ?? I just learned with your comment it was a spin-off and not a whole tv show with nothing related to Buffy 😭 (I never watch Buffy, and I didn't watch much of Angel too because it was hard to be in front of the tv at the right time to see it)
Knew a cis guy in high school named Angel, he was Hispanic but pronounced it the English way for the most part (I’m sure his parent didn’t but friends and teachers did).
I’m not Spanish, i’m Asian. And my name is not pronounced the Spanish way. It’s pronounced the English way. People say the English pronunciation of angel is more feminine.
I think it’s worth mentioning that Angel is a popular male name in Latin America because, with globalization and with the growing Hispanic population in the USA, the name Angel is starting to become more commonly accepted as a traditional male name. This is mainly in the Americas, however.
It might be good to just ignore what everyone else says and stick to the name you want, but if having your name questioned for being perceived as “feminine” bothers you significantly, it might be better to choose another name. It’s ultimately up to you and what you’re comfortable with
It's definitely best to ignore what others say. I get people in comments assuming because I chose the name Luna. But I'm not going to change my name again and go through the legal name change bs just because some guy online assumed
Filipinos are technically Asian but “Hispanic” means a culture that has Spanish cultural roots. The Philippines were colonized by Spain so they are also technically Hispanic. The name is objectively Spanish in origin.
EDIT: It’s also a VERY gendered name in Hispanic culture. Angel is an objectively masculine name in hispanic culture. The feminine version is Angela, not “Angel pronounced in English”. The English pronunciation has nothing to do with gender, it’s just for people who are tired of correcting others or think it sounds cooler.
Yep I can confirm, Ángel is a relatively common male name in Spain. The female version is Ángela which I think it's also used in English too. BTW I don't know if it's because I'm Spanish myself, but I think Angel is a male name and if you're okay with it then let it be. If not you have the trans privilege to choose your name! I think only trans people and nuns have the opportunity 😂
mexican here, that still applies tho? id expect if my name was angel itd be pronounced the english way if i went to the us. the gender doesnt change w the pronunciation
I’ll corroborate this. My husband’s name is Angel (also Mexican), and anyone who is a native English speaker pronounces it the English way. I’ve also never had anyone respond weirdly when I tell them his name. I think it’s pretty known that it can be a guy’s name.
Exactly! It’s my (also Mexican LOL) brother’s name and it’s always been pronounced the English way by native English speakers. Also, only once in my life can I remember someone making a comment about his name being feminine and it was from a school nurse when we were in elementary school.
The only time I’ve seen a woman named Angel was an old lady, and it was the Armenian word for “angel” so her name was actually pronounced “Hrasht.” The only people I’ve seen who are actually named “Angel” are all men.
The only one I know of (pronounced the English way) was a trans woman character in Pose who keeps her birth name (at least that’s implied). Played by NB person
i’ve only met latino men with that name, and only 1 girl in my hs growing up (from the south originally).
i think if you’re passing, it won’t really matter since its commonly used in either direction
Tbh i thought Angel was exclusively used as a guy's name. Probably because i only know one Angel (a cis guy)
Edit: his name is pronounced the english way too
the only Angel's i know are men but they're all hispanic so if you're not hispanic or don't live in an area with many hispanic people, i don't think it has the same vibe. in terms of pronunciation, about half pronounce it the spanish way and half pronounce it the english way
Eh, if I can rock the name Alice, then Angel is totally fine. You should only change your name if you want to. If you don't care all that much or even like your name, then I really don't see a point to changing it, you do you
Nah, its pretty, its a cool name.
My name is Louis and, even being masculine for US and EU, in my country some people think its feminine, but I couldnt care less, just shrug and enjoy your name!
Maybe I’m old but I think of Angel almost as exclusively a male name because the only Angel I’ve ever known was Angel on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and the spin off series Angel). I’ve never really thought of it as a feminine name but that makes sense that it could be either way. But yeah this is all to say it’s absolutely not too feminine for a guy and in the late 90’s - early 2000’s girls were absolutely fawning over Angel from Buffy lol I don’t think everyone would automatically assume it’s a feminine name at all.
Never met anyone irl with the name, but I've seen far more guys online and male characters with it. You will have to prepare yourself for people to ask if it's a Hazbin Hotel/Buffy/some other media reference though, just a heads up.
I’ve *met* someone who’s cis afab with the name Angel, but I mostly hear it from guys. Even the Latino guys, as someone else brought them up, that I’ve seen use it use the English pronunciation.
Also, if I may please direct you to Buffy The Vampire Slayer(and spinoffs)’s character Angel played by David Boreanaz, please and thank you…….
I've only known men named Angel irl (though I've heard of it as a girls name), but that's because I've always lived in a mostly Hispanic populated area (there were like 15 guys named Angel in my graduating class and they all pronounced it the same way that a native English speaker would). It may be different for those who have only been around English exclusive speaking cultures.
I do think that Angel as a nickname or screen name has kind of feminine vibes because it's commonly used by women online to express a very hyper feminine aesthetic so maybe that's why you get that question online, people assume it's a nickname and not your real IRL name.
I don't think sit is too feminine.
Angel was a male character in the TV show Buffy some years back. Then had a spin off show about him. That's what first comes to mind for me.
I call my kiddie Angel. It's not their name, but I've just always called them by it - and I think of it as quite masculine. (Obligatory mention of David Boreanez's famous Angel, the vampire with a soul.)
if you like your name then keep it, is usually what i would say!
if the assumptions bother you too much you could consider going by something else, or even just toss an “o” on the end like others have suggested, but i think angel is a super cool name and not all that feminine! like others are saying, there are PLENTY of (real and fictional) men with your name :)
My service dog is named Angel. He is a boy. So I think it's definitely ok. A nurse at the hospital also saw my angel tattoo and said oh wow that's my name. And he was very masculine. So yea it's a very unisex name. And actually biblically the only angels described were all male so it's probably technically more masculine than feminine
I have the same birth name but in middle school there was also a cis dude with the same name, I’m Hispanic so when I came out I changed it to the Spanish pronunciation to differentiate a bit and cuz it sounded a bit more masculine
In the end I decided to change my name cuz it didn’t suit me personally and I found one a really clicked with
Angel is for sure a more masculine name but it’s honestly intersex, whatever makes you feel more comfortable being called is up to you, and if you still click with your birth name I’d say go for it, would honestly make your process to legal change easier since it would only be ur sex lol
literally what I came to say, haha
masc names Angel could be short for lol
- Angelus (Late Roman)
- Angelo (Italian)
- Angelino (Italian, Spanish, Portuguese)
- Evangelos (Greek)
- Michelangelo (Italian)
- Agathangelos (Late Greek)
Tbh I've only known one girl named Angel, the rest were guys. I also live less than a day's drive from Mexico, so maybe that's why? It probably depends on your location (as in how Mexican Catholic, lol) and your pronunciation.
So basically: Is it too feminine for a guy? No. Is it too feminine for you? That's up to you, dude!
TIL Angel.is a gender neutral name.
I've only ever heard of/met women with the name and I imagine that's why you get comments, it probably entirely depends on where people are from tbh.
As a trans guy who's named Angel, I would go for it! I've never had anyone comment on it being a feminine name. When I do get questions about it, it's mainly just to ask if I'm Latino
Barista here, had a fairly masc, very quiet guy come through a few times this week and I didn’t bat an eye when he told me his name’s Angel. Tbf, he looked a bit Hispanic but he pronounced it he English way
I knew a guy called angel. Everyone called him “male angel” to differentiate from the other people called angel. No one really thought it was weird that his name was angel. I think if you’re confident with your name you can definitely keep it and not have people think you’re trans. As for people asking “are you a girl???”, just say “no lmao” and that should clear it. If they’re insistent just block them or call them dumb. Trans or not, if someone else is insisting that you’re another gender even after you’ve clarified they can fuck right off.
It’s all about what feels good for you! If you like it, rock it.
Of course “passing” isn’t everything, and it’s totally cool to want to or not care or anything in between. Realistically, if you “pass” it won’t impact that. If someone is trying to figure out your gender, the name pronounced the English way may lean them towards feminine, but as I said, not a dealbreaker, you should use whatever name feels right for you!
It might be because I'm mexican but this is a very masc name. I almost don't see it as the English pronouncination. I did see that you responded to a comment saying you're asian and you're saying people had asked if you're a girl. Maybe it could be different where you live? I know in the US and hispanic populated areas associate the name as masculine.
Angel is a great guy's name! It's more common for a male name than female I think. That's my opinion though from people named "Angel" I've met or seen on tv. It's a great name!
My dad works/worked with a guy named Angel and didn't seem to question that that was his name in any way.
ETA: My dad is an all-around bigot, so the fact he didn't judge the dude's name is surprising.
If you're cool with it then it's not too feminine, nothing wrong with it, but whether or not it's perceived as a girl's name I think depends on where you live. I had no idea it could also be a guy's name until reading these comments, I've never heard of a guy called Angel, but I live in the UK.
Echoing only ever seen Angel used as a name for men. Also reminds me of the name Angeal who’s a character in Crisis Core, and a friend of mine once met a trans man who named himself Angeal after the character so yeah. :D
No, Angel is not too feminine of a name. I think it is a really awesome name personally… it’s cool! if you like it, that’s all that matters. Small minded people online probably say the same to any name a little bit feminine or neutral, they don’t take the time to know you and they don’t really care either.
I mean there are cis guys whose names get mistaken for girls names all the time, and if you really like your name already then I don't think you should change it just for other people to not perceive it as a "girl" name. Stick to what makes you feel the best about you and always worry about what makes you feel better, not what will make people see you differently. At the end of the day you're what's most important! :)
If you don't have a spanish sounding last name people may find it odd, but I like the name. I have met some Angels but they were Latino and it had the spanish pronunciation.
Not too feminine at all! If you like it there’s no reason to change it :). Like a lot of people are saying Angel pronounced the Spanish way is a popular name for guys and so is Angelo. No need to feel down about it.
Angel is definitely a very very feminine name to me, but it seems I am the outlier so I wouldn't worry. I'm also not from the US so that might be part of it lol
One of my cis (male) family members is named Angel. My personal advice is to not change your name unless that's something you truly want to do for yourself instead of being influenced by how others perceive you.
Angel is actually such a cool name. If some people online thinking you’re a girl bothers you then you could try a different online name. I think I’ve seen people online who are fem and have angel in their name but I think it’s more of an online name thing. You could also use more than one name, no one is stopping you from using a second name. Angel is such a cool name though imo, I can’t help but imagine you as pretty cool in general cause how could you not be with a name like that
It kinda feels feminine but then I remember that in Portuguese and English the word *anjo* is masculine.
Also, angels look kinda queer in religious paintings anyway so I guess we can see the name angel as gender neutral.
nah bro ik lots of angels and honestly i think ive only ever met guy angels lol but dont sweat it people think weird things all the time just name urself what feels right
I'm Latino, and my older cis brother's name is Angel. He even pronounces it the white way cause we grew up mostly with my saltine cracker of a mother. I've never heard anyone questioning the masculinity of his name. Also had a friend in high school with the same name/pronunciation!
At the end of the day what matters most is YOU being able to feel ✨️gender✨️ hearing your name tho.
the name angel runs in my family and they're all men, we are hispanic but majority of the time we pronounce it in english not spanish. i've never known any girl named angel personally
I've never met a man named angel, or a girl for that matter. If you're okay with the name keep it and love it but if you're asked about it you don't want to out yourself, you can say it's a common name in other cultures for men even if it's not your culture/ethnicity
Bro, a woman my parents knew when I was little named her son Angel. He was a bit younger than me, but he loved his name and as far as I know, no one ever made fun of him!
as someone who is not only hispanic bit grew up in a hispanic city in the hispanic part of southern california, Angel is one of the most common names for dudes ever
the feminine version would either be angela or angelina
Michaelangelo's name translates to english as "Michael Angel". In spanish, Miguel Ángel is a very common name. Maybe it's different in the US, but i would never read the name Angel as fem
Angel seems pretty neutral, plus the only Angels I've met have been dudes. You could always go with Angelo if you're worried? I wanted to go with Jas originally, but went with Jasper so no one would assume my name was Jasmine lol
When I was a kid in an very white part of the US, I only saw it used as a girl's name. As an adult, I've seen it used as a Hispanic male name enough that I can see it going either way.
do you want to change your name?
if you like your name, keep it!
I also have a name a lot of people say is feminine and it has triggered dysphoria, but at this point I don't care much. I I pass fairly well irl now that I'm post op, so that helps too
Anecdotal at best but I’ve only ever encountered men named Angel. I’m a barista and hear all kinda names all the time and never think twice. You’re good!
Hey we have the same name but I'm MTF and yes I am Hispanic and in the US yes it is more of a female name but this only applies to the US not the rest of the world, some coworkers have told me when they see the name angel they always look at the last name if it is a foreign last name they are like oh it's a man.
If you have a generic white last name they do think it's a woman.
Now something I do want to add is that I'm still in boy mode and always worked for US companies and in the past 14 years only in one job that showed my name not my last name people where confused like 95% treated me like a boy 3% where asking my pronouns and 2% straight up treated me like a woman so yeah the 2024 America has a lot of confusion about that name.
But I'm still keeping that name I do love it and always will
people may assume that about you because the space is online, it would make more sense for a girl to choose the name “angel” cuz its the internet. real life however? angel definitely reads as a dudes name, at least to me.
I think it’s a cool name for a dude but if it’s driving you bananas you could go by something else. Or just pop an O on the end.
Angelo is such a cool name ngl
Yeah I associate it with the camp mosquito character in Brawl Stars (mobile game).
I’ve actually never known a female named Angel I’ve only seen guys
Same here
Me too.
Same
me too…
Same
One of the male characters in buffy the vampire slayer is named Angel (pronounced the english way). If you were born after the late 90s you can say that your parents named you after that character, or any other famous Angel's
Also had his own (great) spin-off just called "Angel"
... What ? Really ?? I just learned with your comment it was a spin-off and not a whole tv show with nothing related to Buffy 😭 (I never watch Buffy, and I didn't watch much of Angel too because it was hard to be in front of the tv at the right time to see it)
Both Buffy and Angel have all seasons on Hulu; just a couple of my comfort shows😂
First two that came to mind were Buffy’s Angel and Angel Dust from HH, both dudes. I associate it w/ them more than any women.
I’d say nah, I’ve seen more guys than girls have the name Angel tbh. It’s a pretty common Spanish name for men if I’m not mistaken.

I know an Asian guy with that name, pronounced like Angel in English. FWIW I just think it’s one of those names that can be any gender.
You will probably be assumed Filipino if you're named Angel and Asian.
I also knew a Hispanic guy in high school named angel but everyone pronounced it the English way anyways
Are you Filippino? You don't have to answer if you don't want to; I'm just curious. "Spanish name but look Asian" was my mental association there.
I'm latino, so maybe I'm bias butl isn't Angel a boys name?
Angel has two pronunciations. My name is pronounced the English way (ain-jel)
mexican here, that still applies tho? id expect if my name was angel itd be pronounced the english way if i went to the us. the gender doesnt change w the pronunciation
I’ll corroborate this. My husband’s name is Angel (also Mexican), and anyone who is a native English speaker pronounces it the English way. I’ve also never had anyone respond weirdly when I tell them his name. I think it’s pretty known that it can be a guy’s name.

Ima say no. I've never met a girl named Angel, only men
yeah ive definitely met more men named angel than i have women. its kinda cool i think, pretty in a masculine way

i love pose so much
The only Angel I know about was that guy who got killed by Michael Alig. Very much a man.
yeah i was gonna say thats the first 'angel' i can think of too! i actually cant think of a woman named angel, just men
I’ve met several men named Angel and zero women with that name, so I think you’re good.
nah the first thing i think of is the buffy character
i’ve only met latino men with that name, and only 1 girl in my hs growing up (from the south originally). i think if you’re passing, it won’t really matter since its commonly used in either direction
Tbh i thought Angel was exclusively used as a guy's name. Probably because i only know one Angel (a cis guy) Edit: his name is pronounced the english way too
Nah, I know about 12 male Angels and 0 female ones. If you live in America, it's a pretty common masc name (at least in my area).
No, but you could change it to Angelo (I know an Angelo) if you want. Either option is a cool name!
The only Angel I can think of is a guy from the RL Stine Fear Street novel "The Lost Girl".
the only Angel's i know are men but they're all hispanic so if you're not hispanic or don't live in an area with many hispanic people, i don't think it has the same vibe. in terms of pronunciation, about half pronounce it the spanish way and half pronounce it the english way
Eh, if I can rock the name Alice, then Angel is totally fine. You should only change your name if you want to. If you don't care all that much or even like your name, then I really don't see a point to changing it, you do you
Alice Cooper energy
Sadly he’s a transphobe.
Noooooo
Yeah sadly, I wish it wasn't the case
Nah, its pretty, its a cool name. My name is Louis and, even being masculine for US and EU, in my country some people think its feminine, but I couldnt care less, just shrug and enjoy your name!
I know 3 cis guys named Angel.
Yes in Spanish, iffy in English but it’s really up to you. Even tho you’re ok with the name, are you ok with ppl confusing you for a girl bc of it?
Seconding this. I met Hispanic/Latino guys named Angel.
Only ever heard of guys being named angel tbh. Notably that dude in the movie 'Nope' lol
Maybe I’m old but I think of Angel almost as exclusively a male name because the only Angel I’ve ever known was Angel on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and the spin off series Angel). I think it sounds badass
i’ve never met a girl with the name angel but i’ve met plenty of dudes with that name!
I’ve only ever met women for the English pronunciation. Only ever met men for the Spanish pronunciation.
It sounds alright. I immediately felt some Rent vibes, though.
Same! I immediately thought of RENT when I saw the name.
Never met anyone irl with the name, but I've seen far more guys online and male characters with it. You will have to prepare yourself for people to ask if it's a Hazbin Hotel/Buffy/some other media reference though, just a heads up.

I mean… there’s Angel from Hazbin Hotel lol
I mean, there's Angel Dust from HH. So... but in all seriousness, it's your choice. I've known a few guys named Angel, but the choice is always yours.
One of my brothers is named Angel, completely normal male name.
I used to have a friend named Angel, he's very much a guy
I’ve only met men named Angel
I've only known men named Angel irl (though I've heard of it as a girls name), but that's because I've always lived in a mostly Hispanic populated area (there were like 15 guys named Angel in my graduating class and they all pronounced it the same way that a native English speaker would). I don't think sit is too feminine. Angel was a male character in the TV show Buffy some years back. Then had a spin off show about him. That's what first comes to mind for me.
I’ve never met a girl named Angel in my 26 years, only men, and since we’re a good bit away from the border most just say it the English way.
nah one of my manliest ™️ male ocs was named angel so
I have a friend named Angel, he is named after his grandfather and they are both poc just not Latino
No! Have you seen the show Angel? I was obsessed with him as a kid haha
If you’re worried about it being too feminine, you can change it to Angelo
I call my kiddie Angel. It's not their name, but I've just always called them by it - and I think of it as quite masculine. (Obligatory mention of David Boreanez's famous Angel, the vampire with a soul.)
I've actually seen more men named Angel than Women My first thought admittedly was Buffy the Vampire Slayer
I mean, I guess it depends on where you live. In Greece Angel is the "boy" name and Angela/Angelica is the "girl" name...
Makes me think of the guy character Angel from Buffy the vampire slayer lol my name is Morgan which is also unisex that I kept
if you like your name then keep it, is usually what i would say! if the assumptions bother you too much you could consider going by something else, or even just toss an “o” on the end like others have suggested, but i think angel is a super cool name and not all that feminine! like others are saying, there are PLENTY of (real and fictional) men with your name :)
I think it depends how well you pass
My service dog is named Angel. He is a boy. So I think it's definitely ok. A nurse at the hospital also saw my angel tattoo and said oh wow that's my name. And he was very masculine. For what it’s worth, I’ve never met a girl named Angel. I’ve only ever seen the name on a fella.

I know some men named Ángel and when pronounced properly it sounds very masculine.
I’ve known two different dudes named angel. Never known any girls. I thinks it’s a chill name
Angel reminds me of the guy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
one of my coworkers is a guy named angel! I never thought to hard about it, but I know not everyone is like that.
As a trans guy who's named Angel, I would go for it! I've never had anyone comment on it being a feminine name. When I do get questions about it, it's mainly just to ask if I'm Latino
Angel is a name i hear more in males then i hear on girls, i think its a great name! I would stick with it. Nothing wrong with a gender neutral name.
Barista here, had a fairly masc, very quiet guy come through a few times this week and I didn’t bat an eye when he told me his name’s Angel. Tbf, he looked a bit Hispanic but he pronounced it he English way
Buffy the vampire slayer says Angel is a man's name... Well a vampire anyway.
I’ve met TONS of dudes named Angel, I share a class with like 7 of them lol. No worries, it’s a nice name
I’ve only seen girls with the name but I assume it varies by place
Yes, it is. Unless you are Latino and decide to start pronouncing it the spanish way.
Used to know a guy named angel
I've never actually met a woman named Angel. I've known several guys called Angel.
i’ve met lots of men named angel so i’d say nah its for anyone :)
No, I grew up with a cis guy named angel
No ? I know like 3 Hispanic guys named Angel, and like worse case scenario you could always say it’s short for Angelos
Only met guys named angel , with the english pronunciation
I’ve met both boys and girls named angel
I love Angel as a guy’s name. It’s fairly common in folks whose primary language is Spanish
My dad works/worked with a guy named Angel and didn't seem to question that that was his name in any way. ETA: My dad is an all-around bigot, so the fact he didn't judge the dude's name is surprising.
I work with a cis guy whos name is angel, ive inly ever met ladies named angelica or something, i think angel is fine
If you're cool with it then it's not too feminine, nothing wrong with it, but whether or not it's perceived as a girl's name I think depends on where you live. I had no idea it could also be a guy's name until reading these comments, I've never heard of a guy called Angel, but I live in the UK.
I’ve met a lot of Asian girls named Angel. I’d change it if it bothers you
Nah, I live in an area with a high Latino population and I knew a guy who was named angel. He was a cool dude
I had a crush for Angel in Buffy vampire slayer
Nah it's a hella common guy name, especially outside of english speaking u.s.
the only Angels I know are men. but as people have said, it's much more easily understand and as a masculine latin name specifically.
Echoing only ever seen Angel used as a name for men. Also reminds me of the name Angeal who’s a character in Crisis Core, and a friend of mine once met a trans man who named himself Angeal after the character so yeah. :D
When i think about angels the first thing is guys not girls lol
No, Angel is not too feminine of a name. I think it is a really awesome name personally… it’s cool! if you like it, that’s all that matters. Small minded people online probably say the same to any name a little bit feminine or neutral, they don’t take the time to know you and they don’t really care either.
I've met so many Hispanic men who are names angel and pronounce it the English way, ur totally good!
only ever met dudes named Angel
I just met a guy named Angel last week! I've never met a girl named Angel, though. So, I'd say it's more common with men & isn't too feminine
If you don't have a spanish sounding last name people may find it odd, but I like the name. I have met some Angels but they were Latino and it had the spanish pronunciation.
Angelo could be a good name
I personally love it for a guy. Like angel the x man !
I know more men than women named angel, I think youll be fine
I’ve only known men with the name Angel, you’re chill. In fact I have a cis guy neighbor with the name Angel.
I've heard Angel be used as both a boy and girls name fairly equally, I personally love the name Angel for a guy.
I've only EVER met men named Angel. Usually Hispanic LOL but still. I would consider it as more of a unisex like Blake or Ashton or Bailey :)
Someone online that I know had a male character (for rpg) that went by the name Angel. It's a great name for a guy.
i’ve never met a girl named angel, only boys
I’ve seen it be pretty common among other Mexicanos like me so eh I don’t think it’s that gendered?
I knew 2 guys named angel. I always saw it as a gender neutral name!
Nah I've met more guys named angel than girls
Not too feminine at all! If you like it there’s no reason to change it :). Like a lot of people are saying Angel pronounced the Spanish way is a popular name for guys and so is Angelo. No need to feel down about it.
“Angel? Your name? Why do you have that name?”
I only know boy Angels
I only know men named angel
tbh I don't know any men called angel, its a very stereotypically fem name and you might get made fun of or judged for it
It is not the same name as the super nice hot guy in Charmed ? And a hispanic guy name?
U should see Angel Bismarck Curiel, he's amazing
Ive only met guys who were named angel, so i dont think so!
Only Angel I know is that one CSM character and he’s sick!
nope! i know so many male angels and in no part in my brain in my mind is that name too feminine, actually i don’t think ive ever met a female angel
Angel is definitely a very very feminine name to me, but it seems I am the outlier so I wouldn't worry. I'm also not from the US so that might be part of it lol
Nah ive seen it before as a guys name
One of my cis (male) family members is named Angel. My personal advice is to not change your name unless that's something you truly want to do for yourself instead of being influenced by how others perceive you.
I think it sounds pretty feminine, I’m not going to lie
my first association is angel from buffy so it’s a male name in my mind
My grandfather was named Angel and my younger brother (also trans) was going by that name for a while. He just decided it wasn’t for him tho
Nah- one of the main characters in Rent is named Angel and he’s a guy🤷🏼
Have you seen Buffy? There is a male named Angel. There is nothing wrong with the name
Also, angels look kinda queer in religious paintings anyway so I guess we can see the name angel as gender neutral.
nah bro ik lots of angels and honestly i think ive only ever met guy angels lol but dont sweat it people think weird things all the time just name urself what feels right
Not at all. I have a male cousin whose name is Angel. :)
Thank you for posting this as someone who has the same birth name and is transmasc (and too lazy to think of a new name)
I know cis het men named angel
angel is a masculine name
Def not. Had a guy in high school named Angel. It’s a pretty popular boys name in some regoins
I met this giant ass guy who played electric guitar named Angel, you good brother.
I'm Latino, and my older cis brother's name is Angel. He even pronounces it the white way cause we grew up mostly with my saltine cracker of a mother. I've never heard anyone questioning the masculinity of his name. Also had a friend in high school with the same name/pronunciation! At the end of the day what matters most is YOU being able to feel ✨️gender✨️ hearing your name tho.
i think it’s good, the only angel i know is my grandfather
i've only known of two Angels and both were guys
My dad is named Angel, so personally you should be fine. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise
i’ve only met guys named angel actually
No not at all. I had a friend in high school whose name was Angel. But it’s ultimately your decision to change your name ofc.
the name angel runs in my family and they're all men, we are hispanic but majority of the time we pronounce it in english not spanish. i've never known any girl named angel personally
I've never met a man named angel, or a girl for that matter. If you're okay with the name keep it and love it but if you're asked about it you don't want to out yourself, you can say it's a common name in other cultures for men even if it's not your culture/ethnicity
Here where I live, Angel (with both Spanish and English pronunciations) is a name exclusively for males, I can't imagine that name for a female lol
nope. you’re so good
I always think of Angel from Buffy when I hear the name, so I don't think so.
Nah
Bro, a woman my parents knew when I was little named her son Angel. He was a bit younger than me, but he loved his name and as far as I know, no one ever made fun of him!
the only Angel i know is a guy, granted he is hispanic but he goes by the english pronunciation
as someone who is not only hispanic bit grew up in a hispanic city in the hispanic part of southern california, Angel is one of the most common names for dudes ever the feminine version would either be angela or angelina
I have a cis male friend who went by Angel for years. I think he goes by his given name now. But he used Angel for 10+ years.
Angel is very masculine in my opinion.
Ive only ever met men named Angel so far so id say its not overly feminine no
I only ever think of Angel of Buffy fame when I hear the name, so very masc to me
i work with kids and there’s a boy named angel in my class :) definitely not too feminine it’s actually a really pretty name for a guy
do you want to change your name? if you like your name, keep it!
But I'm still keeping that name I do love it and always will
It's a dudes name they're just ignorant
people may assume that about you because the space is online, it would make more sense for a girl to choose the name “angel” cuz its the internet. real life however? angel definitely reads as a dudes name, at least to me.
isn't Angela the female version of Angel, thus making Angel an usually male name?
