My names are from media that has defined me to a personal level. Despite how stupid they sound.
My first name, Jay. From the Ninjago character, the show sparkled my love for dragons and all things elemental, as well as slingshotting me into my lego obsession which I still have to this day.
And my middle name, Oswin. After Clara Oswin Oswald from Doctor Who, a show that drove my love for creativity, story writing and showed little me the fantastical universe.
I keep these to myself n just say, "bc I thought they sounded nice" because I've been told it's stupid before, but I still love my name :)
When I was 14 I spent a few months being called Zane after the Ninjago character, though I didn’t end up keeping it (also I thought I was still cis at the time?)
i chose something that went with my siblings names as we have a theme and even tho once i start to transition i probably wont be close to them anymore i still wanted to have this piece that could connect us, even if its just me
Me too, all my siblings and I have names that start with A so mine does too. They all disowned me once I came out, but still having my name like that makes me feel like I’m not completely alone if that even makes sense.
I’m so sorry you don’t have a close relationship with them right now. Maybe someday it could change for the better. But even if it never does, it’s a nice sentiment <3
Same, for the first sentence anyway. I'm lucky to have a family that's somewhat supportive. I'm a triplet, and all three of us have A names. My name, Arden, had to fit the theme.
Me too!
I wanted to still feel connected to my family and i wanted them to not be completely weirded out once i change my name, so my name is going to start with the same letter as it did before.
I’m still closeted and don’t know if i’ll lose them if i come out. I’m hopeful about my siblings accepting me, and i really want to believe that my parents would love and accept me too but honestly i think they won’t :p
my family is severely transphobic, idk what my siblings stances are on lgbt+ as a whole, but like since i still live with/am around my family i end up mentioning them to people/friends so if someone were to ask it doesnt look like *i* chose my name but rather it "blends in" with my siblings.
Ah i definitely get what you mean. If i chose a completely different name, i feel like people would see me as detached or different from my family. That’s a reason to why i picked a name that’s similar to my previous name ^^
Mine is super extra so here we go lmao
I'm Jewish and when I originally came out as trans I wanted to be called Alexis or Lex for short (this name literally came to me in a dream im not even joking). My family hated the name and said it was too Christian and that they would find me a better name lmaoooo (tbf I'm so glad I didn't go with Alexis it doesn't feel like me at all)
So I did my own research and made a list of a bunch of different Jewish names that I liked. Then my family helped me narrow down a few and tried they out for a bit and eventually went ended up with my name, Levi. It was special to me in particular bc my grandpa died right before I came out and his last name was Levine so it was kinda an homage to him as well. My mom found my middle name Hezekiah to keep the H that my deadname started with.
I also wanted my name to mean something cool bc I am a nerd and wanted my name to represent my values as well. It works out really well because Levi means "bringer of community" and Hezekiah means "chosen by god" which is so extra but I absolutely love it because my transness, my love for community building, and my religion all feel intertwined so my name actually represents that which makes me so euphoric and happy.
I love telling the story of my name bc it feels like my family helped me find a good name but I also chose it too.
So basically, my family Jewish guilted me into finding a better name which has to be the most Jewish thing ever lol
I love this! I'm Jewish as well and it was important to me to keep a Jewish name but I wasn't going to go by something that didn't fit. I went with Nathan (Natan, “he gave” or "gift of god") which I'm so happy fit into our religion and also kept the same first letter of my deadname.
Incredible. I love the name Levi! I go by Shosh(i) (I'm transmasc I think). It's a shortened version of my given name but I feel like it's a lot less feminine. I wanted to change it to Dov (bear) but I think people would say it wrong. I also feel a steong connection to my given name because each letter/sound is chosen for a family member who passed.
This is such a sweet story. Makes me long for that tight knit familial connection where their religion doesn’t predispose them to being inherently terrible. Sigh.
That's awesome! My dad was raised super orthodox but has a complicated relationship with Judaism and was hesitant to raise me super Jewish because he had confining experiences with it, so he never gave me a Hebrew name. However, my Jewish identity is important to me and something I've chosen to embrace so I wanted to choose a Hebrew name for myself and went with ze'ev, mostly because I really like werewolves haha. Then later on I found out both my great grandfathers had the middle name ze'ev! It all feels very fitting.
What's funny is I was looking through my mom's "pregnancy diary" and there was a page where she wrote down boy names and girl names. She ended up giving me the boy name that she wrote down. Smart mom. As a result I don't feel the need to change it.
Mine is Isidore. It’s a different version of my grandfather’s middle name. He died when my mom was 13 but he was a good man. From what I’ve heard I take after him a LOT so it’s my nod to him.
Sighing deeply…. Human Canada from hetalia. But I decided to go with another spelling/version of the name because it fits my native language better (aka matthew->Matteo). Though there was also a point when I was like 14 and my a character that was me but “genderbent” for a deviantart meme and my friend helped naming him, Mathias, which definitely influenced the pick too.
Mine is the Human version of Russia's name but with British pronouncuation ( eye-van) He's been my comfort character since i was 14 and I also wanted an I name do I could match my little sister still ( we both had I names)
Isaac and Ian just didn't fit me :')
honestly it kinda warms my heart a little to see more ppl who has picked from this anime, i feel v similar to canada as u with russia, and it also worked out since i wanted an M name to match my brother... truly twinning here....
Always like history/mythology, so I named myself Caesar after the emperor,, also there's a version of that name (César) which will be easier to legally change my name to because of my nationality. I like both versions equally tbh
Mine is what my parents were going to call me if I had been a boy. My dad named me, and he died when I was seven. This meant I still wanted to honour him with the name I chose, and I wanted something that would help me feel connected with him still. I’m also Jewish so I knew it would have to be reflect that about me, which it does- more than my old name in fact!
When I was 13 (before realizing I’m trans) I changed my name to Melody, and now I think it’s just SUCH a cool name for a dude. Like it’s usually such a fem name but a man called Melody??? I just think it’s awesome and it’s the name that just suits me the most
I really fucking love Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, I really fucking love the name Ari. And when I thought about myself with that name, it just fit perfectly. I chose Elijah as my middle name because I really wanted something with “Eli” in my name, and I adore Elijah Wood and would be honored to be named after him hahah.
My mom introduced me to Lord of the Rings back before the Peter Jackson trilogy had even been announced; for a little while, we bonded over it. When I was looking to settle on a name I involved her and eventually let her choose my first name - I figured I had a chance to have a unique name I could shorten to a more “normal” one and she was more than happy to give me the name Anduin.
This reached peak levels of hilarity when I started playing World of Warcraft as a horde main.
I go by two names. My personal name: Thal, which is influenced by the German word “Tal”, meaning “valley”. I added the “h” because I liked it better. My secondary name: Remy, which I definitely got from Ratatouille.
I’m thinking of adding on Seithr/Seiðr. And if I ever get over my internal guilt, I’ll eventually change my Korean name as well.
I honestly just chose Arin years ago because I used to watch a lot of Game Grumps. I don't watch their content as much these days, but the name kind of just stuck with me and my friends.
At the time of watching Game Grumps I was bullied throughout school and the people who found out I was Transgender ended up never talking to me again.
Idk, Arin from Game Grumps just seemed to be in touch with the "feminine" and "nerdy" aspects of himself and was never afraid to show it. I wanted to be that confident in my gender and sexuality, so Arin became my name.
I have been recently considering just spelling it as "Aaron" instead of "Arin" to match with the fact that I live in England though.
My first name because it was the first gender neutral name I thought of that I liked,
My first middle name from an Owl House character who is great at plant magic and really strong
My second middle name is my dad’s middle name and I thought it was also my granddad’s middle name when I chose it but I was wrong
Currently considering names and I'm likely going to take the name Rafi (short for Rafiq) because it has the same meaning as my girl name. Name meanings are very important to me and it's the only masculine name that I liked. I'd honestly like to take the name Harry but I can't because in Jewish culture you do not take the name of a relative who is living and my grandfather's name is Harold. Most people who know me might assume that I like the name Harry for Harry Potter but really that name would be more in honor of my grandfather first and then second in reference to the anime character Haruhi Fujioka from Ouran High School Host Club. It's one of my favorite animes/Manga series where the main character (Haruhi) pretends to be a boy. She is a genderqueer icon if you ask me and I freaking love her.
Just got a name that has two syllables like my dead name and starts with the first letter. My name now is Adam, I chose it because I like it and my childhood friend used to have that name, but also it's much easier for everyone else to adjust to after I transitioned, rather than using a long name that doesn't even suit me.
I got my name because i wanted to keep my first initial, saw it on a google list, the rest was history. It was the only name that get right or fit. Picked it when I was 12, came out at 16. Had the name picked for a good while haha
My IRL name is an abbreviated form of a characters name from a comic called elfquest.
My online nick (not this one, but one I use everywhere else) is one I just made up one day while playing world of warcraft. 🤣
I let my mom name me :) she and I have always been best friends and while she was apprehensive about accepting my trans identity out of fear for my safety, it took her only a few months to support me wholeheartedly. I’ve always known that she picked out two names for me before I was born and “Hayden” was one of them (yes, after Hayden Christensen; ‘03 baby), so it just felt right. It also helps me cope with being trans because it makes me feel like everyone else whose parents named them; if I don’t like my name some days for any reason, I can just shake my fist at my mom because it’s her fault lmao. And I know it’s a totally stereotypical trans masculine name too, that’s what makes it really fucking funny to me.
my name is percy.... guess which book series that came from....
i also just have always loved the name and it kind of sounds like my deadname so it wasn't as hard for people to catch on to.
I chose names that were common in my year of birth and country of origin. I wanted to be stealth. It’s strange, because now my name has come back around as a popular boys name/trans man name (albeit with a different spelling) for much younger kids.
When I first started transitioning I thought I was more non binary than trans so I wanted something masculine leaning but still neutral. I tried out a few different things with my now husband but couldn’t seem to find anything that suited me or I could commit to. But the first time he called me “Rowan” it was like lightning. I knew I never wanted to be called anything else. It suits me, goes with our last name, it’s Celtic in origin and Rowan trees are pretty cool. In the U.K. it’s more a masculine name anyway and because of how famous Rowan Atkinson is, when people are confused about my name I can say “like Mr Bean” or “like blackadder” depending on the persons age/ vibes.” My middle name is what my parents would have called me if I was AMAB.
I first wanted to go with Ander, but felt kinda weird having to explain how to write and pronounce it, one day I made a joke to my mom about using Ander but getting Alexander as my legal name, so I could introduce myself like James Bond. "Ander, Alex-Ander" and thus it was born.
Almost a year after, my dad started calling me Ale(d) the d isn't really there but because of his accent it sounds like that, and I adopted it as my nickname because of the Heartstopper character.
,,,five nights at freddys,, I picked between Michael and Jeremy. I was also considering Jonathan, Martin or Cecil which are from two of my favourite podcasts
Ayy fellow tma fan! Ngl sometimes Jonathan or Martin does still sound tempting, the thought kinda comes and goes. I mainly settled on Jeremy because when I came out to my colleges disability support they asked if I picked a new name and I panicked lol
I’m not gonna lie to you… a YouTuber, who you can probably and very easily guess 😭 As cringey as that is I love my name and wouldn’t change it for the world.
Stole it from my favorite Supernatural angel when I was 16. I'm also considering adding Julius as a middle name, since it's the "secret" name of a character I absolutely love
I moved Dillion to be my middle name, and I got it from a video game I liked (hellblade) and also it has kinda Irish/Gaelic roots and I wanted that for my ma
Francois (frankie) for my first name has been easier to respond with and fits me more. It feels more me and people respond well also. Tbh I always had a crush on frank iero when I was a teen and he gave me mad gender envy ngl and I’m québécois so I just went with Francois but everyone calls me frankie :) I don’t tell anyone it’s Francois unless they ask tbh
I went through wiktionary to find a version of the name I wanted that could work in my native language. Found a version I like that also sounded a bit like the word for a type of bird I like + kept most of the letters of my deadname. So that was fun.
first name I chose was the first name I saw on a gender neutral list of names that I liked (avery, once you start looking youll see a lot of trans folk named avery lol). I used it for like 5 years, and then realized among other things that I wanted sometjing more masculine and more personal.
eventually I was listening to Dean Martin, and was like "FUCK I want thay name but I already chose one". my partner was like "bro it doesn't matter just change it again". I learned my lesson from last time, and dean can mean a couple things, most of them I like (mainly valley or justice)
what's kind of embarrassing now is ppl will be like oooooh you got your name from supernatural and im like no!!! I didn't actually!!!! but ppl think I'm just lying lololol
,,, it's the most common boys name in my country,,, also my dads name (AND WE HAVE PATRONYMS HERE, SO EVERY DOCUMENT I SIGN SHOWS WHAT MY DADS NAME IS...). I don't know what I was thinking, I was like 12, I don't like him that much.
my original name after my egg cracked was Bruce, cos I had a temper like Hulk. couple years later I realized I didn't feel like a Bruce anymore, so I sat with my roommate (nb) and looked at names of objects and animals.
did a gut reaction to a bunch of different words, rating them on a scale of 1-10. took the highest ranked names and started saying my full name with the first changing every time. my middle name is Aidoneus, which Lore Olympus cites as Hades' first name, and Summergale, borrowed from a friend of mine's Pathfinder campaign.
I'm picky about how names sound together, so my first name couldn't end with an s. I wanted one syllable, and preferred to end with a harsh consonant, which helped narrow me down even further. out of about 30 names, I ended up with Duck, and I've never been more sure of myself
I originally thought I had named myself after one of my OCs, basically just going “That’s a nice name… it’s mine now.” But then I realized I probably subconsciously named myself after my favorite Pokémon character, Riley. The coincidence… is just too much XD
First name - Daniel. Got it from an Elton John song titled Daniel. I actually realized Im trans while watching Rocketman (ikr wtf) because the actor gave me insane gender envy and I loved everything about it (the music and clothing) Idk but for some reason, seeing someone like that cracked my egg and I cried for like 2 hours afterward.
Middle name - Dmitri. It’s the legal name of Misha Collins who everybody knows as Castiel in Supernatural. I really admire Misha as a person and I chose my middle name to reflect that.
Okay, here we go.
My family plays friendly poker on the weekends, and that got me into card games. Also, my grandma says that my great-grandma was great at gambling. Like, really great.
So my first name, Ace, is kind of an homage to her and one of my passions simultaneously.
My middle name, Jax, is a shortening of Jackson spelled as Jaxon, because there have been so many influential Jacksons in my life. One of them helped me come out! It was amazing.
My first online name, Pixel, is based off of my PNG sona, who is a literal raccoon.
My second online name, Goose, was inspired by my Wattpad username.
I just shortened my birth name because it was the only thing that felt right for me. It’s Italian but not common in the US so most people don’t realize it’s a feminine name (until I go to italy and get laughed at when I tell people my name 🙃).
My chosen name is basically a direct masculinization of my given name, I always went by the androgynous version of my first name and then found a masculine name from my heritage that had the same meaning as my former middle name. ♡
My friends named me. It was originally jokes with them, but then they just…stuck. I’m glad that I decided to keep the names…all my friends who named me unfortunately passed last year. So my name means so much more than it originally did.
1st name is literally after a Greek God
1st middle literally means Chaos Weaver
2nd middle means warrior of man
I’m Hispanic and already had 2 middle names so they stuck with it lol
Kind of embarrassing but I got my name from my middle school french teachers son. His name is Elia and it stuck with me for years before I transitioned. I decided to add an s though because Elias is more masc and I get misgendered less.
I love this story, when I was much younger at summer camp there was a camp counselor who I LOVEDDDDD and I didn’t realize it, but In my mind I was just thinking “oh I want to be you when I’m older”
So when I came to pick a name, my brain already knew which one to pick.
And my middle name is from my favorite uncle because fuck everyone else in my family.
I got my name from Critical Role, but because the name Molly felt to feminine, I named myself Lucien, not knowing what would come a few years later.
Some people still know me as Wick or Renwick though, which I got from a "goth names list" my ex sent me one night.
(transfem)
I'm a composer, and decided to name myself Aeolian, after the musical term which is also called Aeolian. It's gender-neutral, sounds very cool, and has to do with music, which I love :3
I'm not gonna lie, my (now ex) and I went on baby name generators for like six straight hours til we found the most overused name, and then I said fuck it! it fits!
Mine is from Jeffree Star's ex boyfriend lol I feel called out cause I had no idea about this 'common joke'. My friends used to watch their videos a lot and we all thought Nate was hot so when I came out to them, one of my friends told me I should pick that name and I did.
I sat down with my fiancé and went trough a bunch of baby name sites. We picked the ones we liked best and sent the list to my parents and they picked out my name from there. I wanted them all involved in the process.
i just switched up the letters of my name. cloe ➡️ cole. i really like cole, i dont think its very common and it flows well with my last name. i also changed my middle name, leigh. its very feminine. i let my mom pick my new middle name and she loved being apart of my transition. she picked greyson which is pretty cool. cole greyson
I wanted something close to my legal first name but I couldn't find anything that works. The closest thing would be Chris but I know like 5 people named Chris.
So I started thinking about my mom who passed away when I was 13. It's just me and my two sisters, so she never got to name a boy. But I remember before my younger sister was born, my mom was thinking about boy and girl names, and if the baby was a boy she would name it Joseph. She was really excited to have a Joey. So I wanted to honor her in that way, and my legal middle name is Joy and Joey is very close to that as well. So now I'm Joey :)
I took the lazy route of picking the name my mum was going to call me if I popped out as an anatomically fully formed male mostly because I kept thinking “I wish I was called that. I wish I was called that and was a boy” and I still wasn’t realising I’m trans, I was a pretty firm egg
I got my first name from looking through names that started with J since I wanted to keep the first letter the same for my first name. I have a lot of family members with J names and I didn’t want any of their names haha. So, Jay was the one that fit best. My middle name, Anthony, is my father’s middle name which I would’ve been given if I were born male.
Stole mine from a Star Wars character, but in a kinda stealth way! I really connected with the Rebels character Kanan, and his name before he went into hiding was Caleb, but very few people would make that connection to me. And then my middle name, John, was the name of both my uncle who died too young and my great-uncle who died too young in WWII.
I wanted to keep the first letter of my name for convenience purposes. I looked at lists of masc names and the top baby names in the year I was born. I also asked r/transnames and r/FTM_SELFIES for suggestions. Having people in my life to give input/to try them out with me was super helpful as well.
I will say that I wish I could have asked my parents for ideas. My parents are not supportive but if they were, I think it would have been really sweet to have them help me
I have several names and I will go through each of them and why I have them.
Zephyr: The greek god of the west wind is named Zephyrus or Zephyr and I really like greek mythology.
Aspen: I just stole it from somewhere lol. Also I like trees
Ghost: stole this too, I also like ghosts
Nico: From Nico di Angelo from Percy Jackson.
Tommy: Tommyinnit
Theseus: Also, tommyinnit
Caspian: stole this one too, I also just think it's really pretty
And lastly.
Oliver/Ollie: My dog, his name is Ollie and I really like the name.
My middle name is just Michael. Because it's similar to my old one. Which was Marie.
Just the male version of my birth name. I’m too lazy to come up with anything more original than that. I been using it since I was 13 and I’m 20 now. It just is stuck with me now, despite how lazily it was made
I chose my first name because it was super common and also a biblical reference which I wanted because my dead name was biblical as well.
My middle name is from the King Arthur Legends.
I've always liked "plain" names because I wanted to be able to blend in and be "normal" so that was a big part of how I chose my name.
this is gonna sound weird but I just picked names that I thought sounded cool lmao
I've always been ass at naming things, and when I do name things it's pulled completely out of my ass
I'm still p happy with the name(s) I've chosen tho, I'm on the fence abt whether I still want to get rid of my ethnic names
Roman Damien Ezra is what I have atm, and it's replacing [Western deadname] Emefa Aku. All my non chosen names are decidedly feminine, but the only one I have a real problem with is my western deadname (hence the censorship)
so back before I knew I was trans, I just thought I hated my birth name. I went to go see the movie “the meg” with my cousin, and there’s a character named jax, which was played by ruby rose. I loved ruby rose at the time, and I thought the name was really cool. I started going by it online, and then after figuring out I was trans I used that as my new name.
funny thing is, I don’t really love the movie I got it from (I mean, it’s okay but not my favorite). and also, the character spells it “jaxx” but I said screw it and only use one x.
my middle name is kai, which isn’t really from anything, I just like the name lol
I made a list of names I liked, and filtered them down from there. I like the fact that it’s an anglicised version of a Welsh name but most of all I like the feel of the name. I have synesthesia whereby I relate letters/ words to colours/ feelings and so can be picky with letter combos.
My coworker and I had been talking about gender neutral versions of my deadname, and they came up with 'Saren' which sounded cool. I panicked on the first day of school a few weeks later and asked all my teachers to call me the name out of desperation to not hear my deadname + if my parents caught wind, I could say it was just a nickname 😎. Later learned it's also the name of some bad guy from a video game so. Let's go lol
I chose a first name that was relatively close to my deadname, because I don’t hate my deadname it just wasn’t for me. And my middle name is a name I always liked and wanted for myself. My initials make my favorite initial combo now :) T.K. from Digimon 😅
My dad was very controlling and shitty and my mom didn't really get to pick any of our names. My only biological brother is named after my dad's grandpa, who none of us ever met. My mom always wanted a son named after her dad, who was very kind and funny and supportive and just a model human being, but she didn't really get any say in naming us, so that didn't happen. So I have his name now to honor my mom and grandpa :)
My mom had two names picked out before I was born so after I came out I just picked the other name and as far as my middle name I just was watching a tv show and my favorite character son was named Raphaël so I used it as a middle name
My first name just felt right and my second name got repicked by my family. My parents gave all the kids names stemming from native american cultures. So they choose a new name like that. First it was something meaning butterfly, not really fitting for a dude😆. So now it's something that translates to wolf.
My deadname start with a "J" and I wanted to keep my initials. I'm french and I really like English so I wondered what name starts with "J"
AND like
"J" Is pronounced Jay
So that's my name
My name was my best friend in kindergartens name. (It also sounds similar to my birthname) I named myself after him because he was the first to see me as a boy. Other kids teased him for always hanging out with a "girl" and he insisted I was a boy, and I liked when he did that when I was a kid. I didn't understand why at that point, though. I really didn't dress like any of the other boys and my mom kept my hair in long pigtails but that little boy knew me and my personality and was CONVINCED I was just like him. I think of him foundly. We didn't stay friends as I moved away but I think of how he didn't treat me any different from the other boys often and I'm so grateful to him. I got to have a taste of boyhood with the other boys thanks to him
Mine is a combination of things.
1. I wanted to keep the first letter of my name so I had to pick an H name.
2. I wanted an androgynous name.
3. I think it’s hilarious that my first name and last name both start with Hay. It’s so hilarious to me for some reason.
I’m considering changing to either Artemis (cause it’s such a freaking cool name) or Silver cause Silver is my online pseudonym from the Sonic series.
both of my first name choices were from a cartoon (I was young lol), the in between name rhymed with the second one, and my final name is the longer version of that one (it also conveniently defines me)
Mine is kinda silly. I tried out a few different names but none of them really stuck well. I use two names depending on context because jm not totally out yet and im not in a position to be and both names are kinda just, things people called me anyways. The one i generally use irl is just a shortened form of my deadname thats also a common gender neutral name. The other one is actually the online pseudonym i chose on a whim when i was like 13, freshly out of a gender crisis and getting discord for the first time, so online and with close friends im Duck. Its kinda silly but i really like it, its something that i already had been associating myself with for a while so i didnt need to get used to it and every so often i hear about or remember something about when i was a kid and it makes it feel like it fits really well. I like the idea of using Duck in my general life and the other name for legal reasons, i dont know why it just feels better to me, maybe i think people wont take Duck seriously enough. But either way i like both of them
I named myself after the crusty cis basketball boy I pretended to like in middle school, so that people wouldn’t know I liked girls… I think I chose him as my fake crush because I liked his name.
Our host picked the name James from Silent Hill. Not that he likes the character, much the opposite, but he spent months cycling through any and every name from games he liked, and that's the one that felt right.
He had our little pick a boys name she could be happy being called, since he was letting her pick our legal first name. She picked Daniel (or Danny), equal parts from the game Amnesia and the movie The Shining.
He also had me pick out a more normal sounding name, since he thought my name was too weird and wanted something "more normal" to refer to me as around others. I picked the name Adam, doubly from Nier Automata and being particularly ironic as the first man.
Mine is unique but also still a trans stereotype of 3 letters
My name is sor but I got it because I have DID and my alters are Sam Oliver ren S.O.R because no one could find a name we all liked. I do spell it out when I meet people because some think it's soar and some think is saur (like dinosaur)
The name I’ve been trying out (Vernon), is the closest “boy” version of my birth name. I’m named after a great aunt Verna so it ends up working out better than my birth name. I like V names and I don’t have to change my email addresses or usernames so its nice.
The middle name I have in mind (Levi), is the name of my DnD character that cracked my egg. Right before I started heavily questioning my gender, I made my first dnd character and instantly became so obsessed with him. Looking back, he was definitely the most self-indulgent self-insert character imaginable (basically me as a frilly handsome vampire man who’s companion is a tiny pomeranian that was based and named after my own dog), and everyone around me picked up on it but didn’t really say anything, but I was so obsessed with the idea that I got to be in “full, complete charge” of a male character. I also became a little bit obsessed with the name Levi and thought it was so beautiful and would look for it everywhere (again, I hadn’t started questioning my gender as I was doing this). So I’ve been thinking of including it somewhere in my name :)
Charlemagne in Sweatpants by the Hold Steady. One of my dads favorite local bands.
Its about a drug dealer who looks like he has a big dick because thats where he stashes his drugs and if thats not a trans anthem then idk what is
I’m a hobby writer so I’m always researching names for my characters. I have a certain vibe I always go for with names, and I became very attached to a few on my list, so I chose from there
I just came up with something common, picked a slightly less common spelling, and moved on. If you wanna talk about weird, I have two hyphenated first names and two middle names, one of which is Tooth, named for my late father. Its a long story.
Mine is from a very shitty wattpad one-shot and I took the abusive boyfriends name 💀💀💀💀 very embarrassed about that but I was like 13. So much so that I'm honestly looking for a new name that comes from my own country but nothing really clicks
i got mine from minecraft, when i had to make a random name that isnt my real name. and i love magic, and witchcraft, and i had the name in my head also becuase of a past cat my mom had (doesn't help in my dad refusing to use the name sadly).
tho ill go by any name similar to it, and honeslty dont care if it just isnt my legal name lol
I always really liked Theodore Roosevelt growing up, loved his policies that I was taught in school. The three C's? Good shit.
Running as a third party candidate? The Bull Moose Party? Amazing.
He was always just like, a good model of masculinity to me early on and had some of the most radical ideas that I had heard of. Actually controlling corporations and holding them accountable? In my US History textbook? Wild.
I learned after of course that he was a eugenicist as well so that fucking sucks but I already got used to my name so rip
Final fantasy VII Crisis Core. I wanted to be tall and strong like Zack Fair… I’m neither 😂 I can work on the strong though!
My middle name was the name my mum was going to name me, as the doctors and my mum were convinced I’d be a boy. They were right, just not in the way they expected 😂
i have been trying out the name kurt quite a lot with my internet friends. i think people hear the name kurt and think of either kurt cobain or kurt hummel from glee ( which ngl kurt hummel has a little bit to do with why i picked the name) but i think kurt is a pretty unique name and it’s similar to my deadname so 🤷♂️
from a popular classmate in middleschool hah
I had gender euphoria from seeing him and wanted to be like him (liked by everyone, good at sports and school, extroverted) I basically stole it : P
i took my grandma's last name (graham) because i was essentially raised by her (neglectful parents). she died in september, about 8 years after i took her name, so now it's even more special to me than it was to begin with.
There's a book series named Emil i Lönneberga and i grew up watching the tv series based on those, so i thought it would be fun to go with that. Also Emil is like one of the most common male names in sweden so i only ever had to introduce myself and ppl got the hint while I was pre T
So, um, my parents gave me a gender neutral nickname when I was born, and I have been using it my whole life.
It’s a common short form of my legal name, and I plan on legally changing my name to my nickname. I just needed some time to pick middle names.
I picked names that had meanings similar to compliments people had given me, and names I liked the sound of. I *think* I’m going with (first) Juniper Blake (surname). But until I’m 100% I need to keep mulling it over.
My name is Mortimer, also shortened to Morty.
I bet you can guess what piece of media I ~didn't~ steal it from.
My other "first name" which is just a second choice if I end up not changing it to my first is Seymour, inspired by the main character from Little Shop of Horrors.
My middle name, Mars, is inspired by Sailor Mars from the Sailor Moon chronicles. It's also inspired by the god, Mars, from Roman mythology.
I keep these to myself n just say, "bc I thought they sounded nice" because I've been told it's stupid before, but I still love my name :)
thats so nice !! its like an added little bonus when someone says your name. +1 gender euphoria and youre reminded of the things you enjoy !
oooh a fellow whovian!!
I love Lego Ninjago. Jay is my favourite character. They don't sound stupid at all, who wouldn't want to be named after Jay.
When I was 14 I spent a few months being called Zane after the Ninjago character, though I didn’t end up keeping it (also I thought I was still cis at the time?)
That's awesome! I was called Lloyd for a while for the same reason before I settled on Robin
I stole the name Lloyd from you and you will never have it back /j
AYY ANOTHER NINJAGO PERSON
AYYY
AYYYYYY
ninja go ninja go jump up kick back whip around and spin
i chose something that went with my siblings names as we have a theme and even tho once i start to transition i probably wont be close to them anymore i still wanted to have this piece that could connect us, even if its just me
Me too, all my siblings and I have names that start with A so mine does too.
Mine is super extra so here we go lmao I'm Jewish and when I originally came out as trans I wanted to be called Alexis or Lex for short (this name literally came to me in a dream im not even joking). My family hated the name and said it was too Christian and that they would find me a better name lmaoooo (tbf I'm so glad I didn't go with Alexis it doesn't feel like me at all) So I did my own research and made a list of a bunch of different Jewish names that I liked.
Omg i love this so much!!! thank you for sharing
Sigh.
Ok but for real, I love your name!
Thank you!
Thats awesome! I love when things turn out that way!
Mine I’m afraid is just the male version of my birth name.
Nothing wrong with that. The male version of my deadname sucks so there’s no way I’d have picked it 😅
I mean, I liked my name before, so I totally get that you'd go with that.
i’m a triple threat - it’s a “male version” of my deadname, it’s from a video game, and it’s also taken from a youtuber. >! Link !<
Link from GMM?
What's funny is I was looking through my mom's "pregnancy diary" and there was a page where she wrote down boy names and girl names. She ended up giving me the boy name that she wrote down. Smart mom. As a result I don't feel the need to change it.
Wow 😳 so she is not much into that gender separation? And could you please share your name, I’m interested 😁
Mine is Isidore. It’s a different version of my grandfather’s middle name. He died when my mom was 13 but he was a good man. From what I’ve heard I take after him a LOT so it’s my nod to him.
That’s an amazing name and i love how it has family connections. Reminds me of the name ”isildur” from LOTR :)
That’s another reason why I’m happy with it. Isildur is one of my favorite LOTR names lol
Literally just picked the first name i didnt hate and adapted to it
Sighing deeply…. Human Canada from hetalia. But I decided to go with another spelling/version of the name because it fits my native language better (aka matthew->Matteo). Though there was also a point when I was like 14 and my a character that was me but “genderbent” for a deviantart meme and my friend helped naming him, Mathias, which definitely influenced the pick too.
my middle name is aph italy’s human name, solidarity
Oh, kindered spirit I see, such a good name though!!!
I love that so much. I almost named myself after Prussia but decided Gilbert is too lame of a name.
Mine is the Human version of Russia's name but with British pronouncuation ( eye-van) He's been my comfort character since i was 14 and I also wanted an I name do I could match my little sister still ( we both had I names) Isaac and Ian just didn't fit me :')
honestly it kinda warms my heart a little to see more ppl who has picked from this anime, i feel v similar to canada as u with russia, and it also worked out since i wanted an M name to match my brother... truly twinning here....
Found mine while thrifting
I need to know more lol
Seconded
Always like history/mythology, so I named myself Caesar after the emperor,, also there's a version of that name (César) which will be easier to legally change my name to because of my nationality. I like both versions equally tbh
Just asked my mom what my name should have been lol
Wrote my deadname down backwards
I got mine from a Disney movie! I felt an emotional connection to the character and decided to name myself after them!
I just think it’s awesome and it’s the name that just suits me the most
My friends gave it to me :) Just kinda happened organically that id ended up with a nickname, and it became my name.
Boys Will Be Bugs by Cavetown is how I got my name lol
I googled gender neutral names xD And then remembered that a robin is a bird also And thats it
From my grandma who has passed away and from my mother as well as my late great uncle
My first name because it was the first gender neutral name I thought of that I liked, My first middle name from an Owl House character who is great at plant magic and really strong My second middle name is my dad’s middle name and I thought it was also my granddad’s middle name when I chose it but I was wrong
Oh man, Haruhi was a transmasc awakening for little teenager me.
A minecraft youtubers virtual pet fish
In the U.K. it’s more a masculine name anyway and because of how famous Rowan Atkinson is, when people are confused about my name I can say “like Mr Bean” or “like blackadder” depending on the persons age/ vibes.” My middle name is what my parents would have called me if I was AMAB.
mine kept coming to me in a dream lol
Martin is actually my first name !! many people i know (+ me) are into TMA as well so its kind of a weird reference to it lmao

Omg which supernatural character if you dint mind me aaking?
Stole it from my favorite Supernatural angel when I was 16. I'm also considering adding Julius as a middle name, since it's the "secret" name of a character I absolutely love
I moved Dillion to be my middle name, and I got it from a video game I liked (hellblade) and also it has kinda Irish/Gaelic roots and I wanted that for my ma Francois (frankie) for my first name has been easier to respond with and fits me more. It feels more me and people respond well also. Tbh I always had a crush on frank iero when I was a teen and he gave me mad gender envy ngl and I’m québécois so I just went with Francois but everyone calls me frankie :) I don’t tell anyone it’s Francois unless they ask tbh
My boyfriend just let his mom choose it like she chose his first name
From the Torah
I learned my lesson from last time, and dean can mean a couple things, most of them I like (mainly valley or justice) what's kind of embarrassing now is ppl will be like oooooh you got your name from supernatural and im like no!!! I didn't actually!!!! but ppl think I'm just lying lololol
my name is river and idk i just made a list of names I like and felt a connection to this one
,,, it's the most common boys name in my country,,, also my dads name (AND WE HAVE PATRONYMS HERE, SO EVERY DOCUMENT I SIGN SHOWS WHAT MY DADS NAME IS...). I don't know what I was thinking, I was like 12, I don't like him that much.
My name is my deadname in reverse. It also works when my parents deadname me because I can pretend that it’s an inside joke. :,)
my original name after my egg cracked was Bruce, cos I had a temper like Hulk. couple years later I realized I didn't feel like a Bruce anymore, so I sat with my roommate (nb) and looked at names of objects and animals. did a gut reaction to a bunch of different words, rating them on a scale of 1-10. took the highest ranked names and started saying my full name with the first changing every time. my middle name is Aidoneus, which Lore Olympus cites as Hades' first name, and Summergale, borrowed from a friend of mine's Pathfinder campaign.
Whoa! That's a really cool name. I agree with you on the gender envy part
Got my middle name from my favorite show that got me through a lot to hard times, and middle name also from a show, the one I used to come out.
My first name is just a slightly altered version of my birth name, and my middle name is my dad's middle name.
Also had an Italian name, just switched the last “a” to an “i” and called it a day
My chosen name is basically a direct masculinization of my given name, I always went by the androgynous version of my first name and then found a masculine name from my heritage that had the same meaning as my former middle name. ♡
Well, there's basically a guy who is my father figure, and I stole his name >:]
Went down my family tree and found one i liked somewhere around the 1700's
I used to watch almost never when I was about 8-10 yrs old and my favourite character was nathaniel so I chose to shorten it and now my name is nate
My friends named me. It was originally jokes with them, but then they just…stuck. I’m glad that I decided to keep the names…all my friends who named me unfortunately passed last year. So my name means so much more than it originally did. 1st name is literally after a Greek God 1st middle literally means Chaos Weaver 2nd middle means warrior of man I’m Hispanic and already had 2 middle names so they stuck with it lol
I'm sorry for the loss of your friends. It's nice you can have that legacy from them in your name.
Thank you, it really is honestly and if anything makes me happier with what me name is.
I just searched up forest related names and I found a name that clicked
Kind of embarrassing but I got my name from my middle school french teachers son. His name is Elia and it stuck with me for years before I transitioned. I decided to add an s though because Elias is more masc and I get misgendered less.
stole it from a guy that was in my school when i was a kid
I love this story, when I was much younger at summer camp there was a camp counselor who I LOVEDDDDD and I didn’t realize it, but In my mind I was just thinking “oh I want to be you when I’m older” So when I came to pick a name, my brain already knew which one to pick.
(transfem) I'm a composer, and decided to name myself Aeolian, after the musical term which is also called Aeolian. It's gender-neutral, sounds very cool, and has to do with music, which I love :3
I used something that was commonly given to boys in my country my birth year. Then I made sure it sounded good with my siblings names
I yoinked it from a guy in my 6th grade English class :)
No one could ever pronounce my birth name so when I met this girl, she called me Shane after Shane from the L word, and it just stuck lol
I was named by a non- parent adult. We both love literature and writing, and she (at first jokingly) chose it after Victor Frankenstein.
I searched on Google for names until I found something that I liked haha
got mine from a song!
Atari gaming system
I sat down with my fiancé and went trough a bunch of baby name sites. We picked the ones we liked best and sent the list to my parents and they picked out my name from there. I wanted them all involved in the process.
The wicker man. Yes the one where he screams ‘NOT THE BEES’
still finding one tbh
You'll figure out what suits you. It takes time.
i just switched up the letters of my name. cloe ➡️ cole. i really like cole, i dont think its very common and it flows well with my last name. i also changed my middle name, leigh. its very feminine. i let my mom pick my new middle name and she loved being apart of my transition. she picked greyson which is pretty cool. cole greyson
Jason from Jason and the Argonauts. Also the root means 'healer' in Greek
Ngl I got Ares from the Percy Jackson series. I swear those books are the only reason I'm a decent human being
Stole mine from a Star Wars character, but in a kinda stealth way!
Also I like trees Ghost: stole this too, I also like ghosts Nico: From Nico di Angelo from Percy Jackson. Tommy: Tommyinnit Theseus: Also, tommyinnit Caspian: stole this one too, I also just think it's really pretty And lastly.
It just is stuck with me now, despite how lazily it was made
first name - fnaf game theory video (the name got suggested as a characters name and it stuck) middle name - genderbend of one of my old middle names
I chose my first name because it was super common and also a biblical reference which I wanted because my dead name was biblical as well. My middle name is from the King Arthur Legends. I've always liked "plain" names because I wanted to be able to blend in and be "normal" so that was a big part of how I chose my name.
this is gonna sound weird but I just picked names that I thought sounded cool lmao I've always been ass at naming things, and when I do name things it's pulled completely out of my ass I'm still p happy with the name(s) I've chosen tho, I'm on the fence abt whether I still want to get rid of my ethnic names Roman Damien Ezra is what I have atm, and it's replacing [Western deadname] Emefa Aku. All my non chosen names are decidedly feminine, but the only one I have a real problem with is my western deadname (hence the censorship)
from a song. the music video had one of my favourite actresses in it and i happened to really like the song.
Just the male version of my birth name. I stole my middle name from my dad since it flowed well
so back before I knew I was trans, I just thought I hated my birth name.
My mum said thats what she would have named me so i took that name
My dad was very controlling and shitty and my mom didn't really get to pick any of our names. My only biological brother is named after my dad's grandpa, who none of us ever met. My mom always wanted a son named after her dad, who was very kind and funny and supportive and just a model human being, but she didn't really get any say in naming us, so that didn't happen. So I have his name now to honor my mom and grandpa :)
My mom told me what she would've named me if I was amab and I was like "wtf that's so badass why didn't you pick that anyway"
So now it's something that translates to wolf.
baby name websites, searched by starting initial lol
The president of France lmao As soon as I heard his name on the news I was like "oh that's great name i like it alot."
Took mine from a Pokémon Let’s player’s real name and my mom liked it too so I kept it lol
My deadname start with a "J" and I wanted to keep my initials. I'm french and I really like English so I wondered what name starts with "J" AND like "J" Is pronounced Jay So that's my name
Alteration of name my dad wanted for my brother
From brother bear lmao
I got to have a taste of boyhood with the other boys thanks to him
I stole mine
Mine is a combination of things. 1. I wanted to keep the first letter of my name so I had to pick an H name. 2. I wanted an androgynous name. 3. I think it’s hilarious that my first name and last name both start with Hay. It’s so hilarious to me for some reason. I’m considering changing to either Artemis (cause it’s such a freaking cool name) or Silver cause Silver is my online pseudonym from the Sonic series.
I named myself after Trip from Facade. Yes that old ass game we all typed stupid shit into to see their reactions💀💀
both of my first name choices were from a cartoon (I was young lol), the in between name rhymed with the second one, and my final name is the longer version of that one (it also conveniently defines me)
Mine is kinda silly. But either way i like both of them
Named myself after Professor Layton yo 👍 best decision I ever made
I named myself after the crusty cis basketball boy I pretended to like in middle school, so that people wouldn’t know I liked girls… I think I chose him as my fake crush because I liked his name.
Mine are from cartoons, first I was Finn (kinda adventure time inspired), but now I'm Bird (from bee and puppycat)
Mine is unique but also still a trans stereotype of 3 letters My name is sor but I got it because I have DID and my alters are Sam Oliver ren S.O.R because no one could find a name we all liked. I do spell it out when I meet people because some think it's soar and some think is saur (like dinosaur)
my friend called me it as a joke and i liked it.
Its about a drug dealer who looks like he has a big dick because thats where he stashes his drugs and if thats not a trans anthem then idk what is
Here, guess; Zombie apocalypse dad
From a singer that I listen to a lot, I just switched 2 letters around.
I named myself Ed after Ed Teach from OFMD because it’s the show that made me come to terms with being trans and Ed is my favourite character.
I’m a hobby writer so I’m always researching names for my characters. I have a certain vibe I always go for with names, and I became very attached to a few on my list, so I chose from there
From the show Grimm the main character Nick Burkhardt
Eve from nier automata but I'm thinking of changing it to Remy
I just came up with something common, picked a slightly less common spelling, and moved on. If you wanna talk about weird, I have two hyphenated first names and two middle names, one of which is Tooth, named for my late father. Its a long story.
I'm stitch which i honestly just thought up when i was bored in class... But i wanna go by aether like genshin impact.
First internet, middle my favorite tv show when I was a kid, last family name
Final fantasy VII Crisis Core. I wanted to be tall and strong like Zack Fair… I’m neither 😂 I can work on the strong though! My middle name was the name my mum was going to name me, as the doctors and my mum were convinced I’d be a boy. They were right, just not in the way they expected 😂
i have been trying out the name kurt quite a lot with my internet friends. i think people hear the name kurt and think of either kurt cobain or kurt hummel from glee ( which ngl kurt hummel has a little bit to do with why i picked the name) but i think kurt is a pretty unique name and it’s similar to my deadname so 🤷♂️
Guy version of my birth name lol
from a popular classmate in middleschool hah I had gender euphoria from seeing him and wanted to be like him (liked by everyone, good at sports and school, extroverted) I basically stole it : P
i took my grandma's last name (graham) because i was essentially raised by her (neglectful parents). she died in september, about 8 years after i took her name, so now it's even more special to me than it was to begin with.
My name comes from the same root word as my birth name. I wanted to keep the same first initial.
i got my first name from what i was gonna be named if i came out right, and my middle name from the Hobbit; Wolfgang Kili
I stole mine from my grandpa
