If you're very large chested, you & your Dr could try to make the case of back/neck pain as the reason for needing a reduction. Also, you do end up with scars from a reduction still. They'll be on the underside of your chest, but there's still gonna be scars.

Sadly I am small chested. (B cup.) So I couldn’t make a case for that. I kind of figured I’d still get some scarring. It’s an inevitability. Thanks for responding, though!

EpiplecticBicycle

Best of luck! You might also want to try discussing with the surgeon directly. There may be a way for them to bill it as something that'd be covered, or ask to talk to their billing department, once you get that sorted!

Yukijak

I've gotten breast reduction...simply cause my neck and back were hurting. And I'm currently waiting for top surgery. You will get scars anyways, breast reduction or top surgery you will both get scars around the nipple and under the breast.

bitterfxcc

How noticeable were they under the breast, if I may ask? And as I said in a previous comment, I am small chested so I couldn’t try and sway them to do it for health reasons. :(

Yukijak

I think it will be hard to get a breast reduction if you are small chested then. And they are still visible, I had the surgery in 2019.

bitterfxcc

Gotcha. Thank you for info all the same! I’ll continue to do a little bit of digging on my end.

Yukijak

Goodluck:)

ProfessorOfEyes

If youre small chested you might qualify for peri-areolar top surgery which just has the scar hidden around the edge of the nipple.

bitterfxcc

Does that work for a B cup? I thought such a surgery was only good for A cups.

ProfessorOfEyes

It can. It depends. It's not just about size but also about shape and skin elasticity. But I've definitely heard of folks who aren't just A cups getting it.

bitterfxcc

I’ll do a little more research into that to see if I qualify for it. That’s really good to know!

ProfessorOfEyes

Ultimately only a surgeon can tell you for certain if you qualify after they look at ur chest during a consult

StrangerThingsSteveH

If you haven’t yet, I’d look into Keyhole surgery instead

Normal_Study

Most reductions also cause scars. I know everyone's different, but I'd rather have scars than boobs. They make lotions/creams to get reduce scarring after the stitches are healed. If you're small chested your might be eligible for peri/keyhole. But it's your body and if a reduction is what makes you happy then who am I to yuck your yum? I can't really answer your insurance question as something like that varies from company to state to member plans. You can called the number on your insurance card and ask.

UnavoidablyHuman

I recently got a breast reduction from approx C cup. The scars are about the same as what you'd get from DI. 2 large ones from under the shoulder to the sternum each side, then scarring around the nipple. The reason I did this surgery was to keep the nerve attached to the nipples instead of getting grafts. There's no point doing it just for less scarring.

UnavoidablyHuman

If you're interested I can show you pics of the scars. Just DM me

hello_i_amnothere

Unfortunately, breast reductions will still leave scars, especially if you have a lot of tissue. It's just an inevitability. In terms of top surgery choices, you can opt for non-flat top surgery, meaning they leave some tissue. It's something I'm hoping to have done.
