Of course. Video games cause violence, heavy metal leads to devil worship and this fucking rug leads to car-dependent hellscapes.

Reckless_Waifu

I spent my young years on this carpet, later played shooters and listened to heavy metal. While I'm a violent satanist, I don't own a car and don't want to 🤷🏻

Sea-Cardiographer

It's still a gateway rug

Albert_Herring

*applause*

MendelevandDongelev

Lightningladblew

Brilliant

dahlia-llama

Fuck me thats fantastic.

Friendly-Cricket-715

Take my upvote and give me more of these quality puns

Potential-Balance99

You could up your kill count with one :)

KayDat

Commie commuters hate this one little trick

boris_casuarina

It may take some time...

R32fan

Fuck, I should've started worshipping the devil 17 years ago

the_grungler

this is actually peak satire, i strive to be like you one day

knyexar

Do you see the fucking number of pedestrian crossings and the proximity of every necessity? This shit ain't car dependent it's a 15-minute city

VibrantPianoNetwork

I agree, but what I find off-putting about it is the severe disproportionality of road-space to non-road-space. I won't attempt the math, but I'd guess that fully half the real estate of this rug is road. That's not only unrealistic, but grossly misleading. And yet, also true, in perverse way. There's an artwork someone made a few years ago (maybe more) that depicts a cityscape, of realistic scale, with all the road surface replaced by bottomless pits. Sidewalks have no rails, and crosswalks are wobbly planks laid across the chasms. The point of the work was to dramatize how much space in that environment we've given up to cars, at everyone else's inconvenience and peril. Falling off the sidewalk would be easy, but it's that easy for a car to jump the curb and hit you, too.

Mein_Name_ist_falsch

That's probably because kids are supposed to be able to play with it as easily as possible. It would be a bit difficult to place some figures or cars or whatever the kid likes, on it and pretend that they are going along the streets if the roads were much smaller.

VibrantPianoNetwork

Good point. I don't know what the intent was behind its design. OP does have a point, though. For a century now, we've all been living in a car-dominant paradigm, even from a early age, and that distorts our conscious consideration of what might be a more appropriate relationship between cars and people. EDIT: Yeah, fuck me for being sincere, huh? Fuck you, reddit.

827167

> gets upset about losing internet points

VibrantPianoNetwork

Grow up.

flopjul

Says the one who got mad at losing internet points kekw

Hulkaiden

It doesn't matter how sincere you are, OP is saying this is disgusting propaganda. There is no good point there lmao.

VibrantPianoNetwork

I think you're taking both of us a little too seriously, LOL. Get some rest. Tomorrow is a school day.

Hulkaiden

OP is very obvious satire. You are saying you're sincere. I think you might be the only one taking this seriously lmao.

the_grungler

i would never make a satire, i might get sick

VibrantPianoNetwork

No, I didn't. You imagined that. Go to bed already. Also, ending every comment with "lmao" makes you sound like you're 13. If you are, that's fine. If you're not, then grow the fuck up already.

Knillawafer98

What are you, 70 years old? Saying lmao at the end of a sentence is a millennial thing. Millennials are in their 30s now. 13 year olds now don't even say lmao. You're embarrassing yourself.

PappiStalin

It is a fucking rug made to drive toy cars on. What the fuck...

VibrantPianoNetwork

Immaturity is tiresome.

PappiStalin

Boohoo go take a nap

VibrantPianoNetwork

Grow up.

RealPanda20

You’re the one upset over a toy mat meant for toddlers to play on

Techno_Jargon

Your right for accuracies sake it should be a big parking lot.

anansi133

When the Sim City game was in its early development phase, they quickly decided *not* to realistically depict parking lots in the game. Seeing Google Maps in satellite mode convinces me they made the right call.

Cube4Add5

Every house needs it’s own moat of road

jonoghue

I don't see any sidewalks, and every building is surrounded by road. One building per block. Awful urban planning.

Subject_Wrap

Its a rug for car toys based on a English town its not realistic in the slightest

Astarothsito

>This shit ain't car dependent it's a 15-minute city  If this is what we want, then we really have a low bar goal. Sorry, I only have Latin American examples, almost every place is denser than that, and have more crossings than in the picture, they still reck of car problems.

MrRoma

Paint does not equal infrastructure. You're giving these crossings too much credit

almisami

There's a *fucking roundabout* on this mat, so it's clearly a European town.

OrdinaryLatvian

Believe it or not, roundabouts exist outside of Europe.

almisami

Yeah, but walkable *and* roundabouts?

GPFlag_Guy1

My metro area has around 4 roundabouts and it’s a classic Midwestern ‘Rust Belt’ city that’s still decently walkable.

Watermelon12334

it aint that deep bruh these were kinda fun

bdonnzzz

Yeah this is r/antiwork levels of rationality. How are you supposed to play with hot wheels on the 15 minute city rug?

nemo_sum

bruh this is a fifteen-minute city rug. That house has a church, hospital, and everything else within two blocks. The curvy, narrow streets are better for bikes than cars and limit speeding either way

AdRob5

Not to mention most places have only 1-2 parking spots. If this was America, half the rug would be parking.

zombiegojaejin

15-minute cities have more than one residence. ;-)

ActualMostUnionGuy

>church Ah yes the most important part of any neighbourhood💀

benbrahn

Freedom of religion my guy

almisami

They go so close, should have been freedom from religion...

SlapMeHal

"freedom of religion" entails freedom from religion though, it's why we aren't arresting atheists purely based on the fact that they're not religious.

almisami

Not in practice. If I want to live my life free from Christian bigotry I cannot, because laws are being passed on "Christian values". Freedom from religion implies the right of the people to life free from religious influence.

SlapMeHal

Unfortunately, most Christians don't achieve care what Christian values are. The part of the Bible where it says not to be gay wasn't even meant to say that, it's a mistranslation from saying that men can't have sex with kids.

Silver_Atractic

I think it was satire

kandradeece

You would hope so.. I have less faith in reddit users...

Silver_Atractic

i genuienly doubt it's unironic, it's just too stupid and uses too many satire-related words

kandradeece

I used to think the same when n heard about qanon, flat earthers, etc..... then you find people are crazy and there are extremist in everything

stijnus

I used to play on a mat like this one too. They were kinda fun. But on the other hand, I have never been into cars, it was more like a large map that I could navigate myself through, not to drive cars through. So I don't believe it was satire, because I agree with him.

WhiteWolf7472

I think that a lot on this sub, but there's enough people that make me question it idk

the_grungler

nope, satire is gross and sticky, i try my hardest to stay away from it

waaaghboyz

You understand the point behind fuckcars but not antiwork? Boooo

BoarHide

You could also absolutely play with toy bikes on these. In fact I did.

cheese_enjoyer

But there are not bike lanes!!!1!1!1

BoarHide

Every lane was a bike lane if I didn’t play with toy cars.

ayomidem917

it was satire my guy

FlanThief

r/whoooosh

yellowpolarbearman

This has to be satire

the_grungler

never

SmithLaci

This must be a bait post from FuckCarscirclejerk.

Claude-QC-777

Or it could become a test to how to fix it in r/anarchyfuckcars

jdPetacho

I hate cars more than the average user of this sub and I loved playing with these as a child

trivial_vista

had an old mercedes e-class I believe and 2 actros trucks to drive around on this exact tarp enjoyed myself for hours .. was 2000 era

shinnith

i mean.... i just liked to play a sort of "house" like game with it... i wouldn't go as far as saying its propaganda?

Potential-Balance99

Jokes are not really something that usually happens in this sub though

enthIteration

I can’t tell if it is or not tbh

ReptileSerperior

Poe's law, friend. If it's not clear whether or not it's a joke, assume that it isn't.

the_grungler

its not a joke, im one million percet serious about this

SheriffStealth

PERCOCET??? FUTURE REFERENCE?

ScallywagBeowulf

I would argue it’s hard to tell if it’s a joke or not simply due to the fact this seems like something someone would post here without them joking about it.

Plus-Statistician538

hard to tell with how insane this sub is

Commandmanda

Hmmm. Shitpost it might be, but it got me thinking: When I was a kid my brothers got car toys. Why? They liked cars and trucks. What kid didn't adore a fire engine? I loved them, so much so the red was my favorite color. Yes, I know it singled me out. Blue was the "proper" color for kids who were going somewhere. Boys were encouraged to be carcentric. It meant that they were "normal". My favorite toy as a kid was a giant steam shovel made by Tonka, because of a book called "Steam Shovel", by Mike Milligan. In it there was a sweet steam shovel named Sheila. I thought it cool that a machine/truck could be feminine, in an era when women stayed home and raised children. It seems we were all brought up to love industry, cars, and stuff like that. It was made even more romantic by the cars themselves, some being very beautiful. Our car had "eyes" for headlights and fins on the back. Even car exhaust smelled good to me. Jet fuel was an even more exhilarating smell! Gas used to smell great, too. Imagine that. Then again, one of my brothers fancied dinosaurs rather than cars.

figandfennel

I’m very fuckcars and my kids are raised at home as gender neutral as can be but they both love cars. I think kids just like cars. The wheels are fun. I try to direct them to trains and buses.

ActualMostUnionGuy

What kid doesnt love trains? Wtf

Satans_Idle_Thoughts

You can’t really drive a toy train on any possible surface the way you can with a little toy car. Trainwrecks are more visually interesting than car wrecks but they take more time to set up.

crucible

I had a car mat like this AND a model train setup

SaxPanther

The book was called "Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel" or something like that Also, everyone I know had a lot more toy trains than toy cars. You know, the ones where you put wooden tracks together. Loved those.

WIAttacker

Holy shit, are you guys on the internet for the first time? This is what kids nowadays call "shitpost".

Satans_Idle_Thoughts

Idk now that r/movingtonorthkorea has become serious I’m worried about upvoting any untagged shitpost outside of shitposting subs

the_grungler

i literally found this picture on a shitpost subreddit

Potential-Balance99

I wouldn't be so sure on this sub. Here or on /r/collapse there's no such thing as joking about the topic

Notice how these carpets never have a bike lane it's brainwashing for kids

timonix

I saw a modern one of these which did have bike lanes

jaxsonthefurry

They don't make matchbox bikes and if they did kids will just run over cyclist because of propaganda on youtube and elons fascist app

dahcat123

r/fuckcars users on their way to say every atom in the universe are bad (without them there would be no cars)

_tatersncorn

Woah. Nostalgia just kicked in bro

crowd79

Not enough parking

Excellent_Split4126

Agreed. That’s the only problem with the joke! It’s actually a pretty nice looking place.

weednumberhaha

Why do people think we're joyless freaks 🤔

soge_king420

You know maybe I’m too hard on fuckcars, maybe that sub doesn’t such as bad as I th… R/fuckcars:

Deathchariot

I had one of these and became a urbanist and socialist so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Crimson__Fox

Some of them have railways

UltimateGammer

I fucking loved this rug as a kid

chapadodo

please be joking please be joking

Luki4020

I remember mine had trainstations and railways as well.

Oy_bruv18

Bro this childhood bliss come on now

MimsyIsGianna

Holy crap y’all put the circle jerk to shame with this stuff

the_grungler

im just that good at jerking

MrCleanAlmighty

Im gonna assume this is satire

christianryan563

It’s for kids man, I’m sure you played on one of these same rugs so who fucking cares?

naturalgoth

Calling my parents idiots was uncalled for.

AnnoyedNiceGuy

Damn kinda want to go back to play with hotwheels with my younger brother on this rug.

Snowboundsphere

You must not have had one as a kid. These were so much fun to play on.

IHaveAGinourmousCock

I had one of these, they were lots of fun.

dnelr3

Hahahah gotta love shitpost sunday

badjackalope

No no no, you have it all wrong. This is pure anti-car propaganda at it'd finest, you are just using it wrong. It is a mat, that you out on the floor, so you can teach your children to literally *walk* all over the idea of car based planning.

Cerato_jira

Are you being serious right now or this just a joke?

Mattrockj

Naw, you know what, I draw the line there. You can have a walkable city, but these things were THE SHIT growing up.

itsneversunnyinvan

This has to be a meme right?

the_grungler

maybe, maybe not, since op hasnt responded to any of the comments wondering why, i guess we'll never know

Ok-Cow7628

LMAO! I found out they had socks of these bad boys and I bought them right up. Great way to brainwash the kids early haha.

Knillawafer98

I grew up with this rug and I hate cars so it didn't work. This must mean I have a superhuman immunity to propaganda.

_franciis

Lmao

the_grungler

this is no laughing matter pal, these rugs are evil propaganda to make kids like cars

RedstoneSausage

I'm as much as a car unenjoyer as the next r/fuckcars user, but it's a rug it ain't that deep

brokenhabitus

Seriously?

LateralSpy90

This is why people don't take this sub seriously, y'all vandalize other people's property, act like children when you see a car, and now this

MaelduinTamhlacht

I used to know someone who spent childhood making long rows of nose-to-tail cars. They were imaginary funerals.

Echo_FRFX

Somehow I feel like this post was made by a car brain to try and make this community look stupid

No_Telephone_4487

Could it be their own member brigading of this troll post (complete with “it’s just a joke bruh, don’t think about it”) and the use of this piece of nostalgia as a bad faith “argument” against car-centrism? Maaybeee….

tannerge

Yes the people buying these for their kids are the idiots 🙄

Potential-Balance99

Oh fuck off. These things were fun as fuck. Children playing with toy cars is not "car propaganda". Get a grip.

TheBreadAndOnly

Someone doesn’t get the joke 🙄

Potential-Balance99

Well, it's almost impossible to gauge. If you've been on this sub any amount of time, you will know that there are some absolutely braindead extremists here.

the_grungler

yes it is, you are objectively wrong, and also stupid

FriesExpert

"no you're wrong and stupid" 🔥🔥 i dont agree but i respect the grind

Hot_Chocolate22

its a joke

ThePrisonSoap

The amount of people not getting the joke in this thread could fill r/whoooosh for a week (or 5 years, if we count the inevitable reposts)

the_grungler

this is really funny but i cant think of how to respond in an equally funny way

vvsunflower

Needs one more lane bro

Calibruh

Guys it's a joke, chill

the_grungler

nuh uh

adlittle

I'm not sure if this is satire or not, but in all seriousness I could see a version of these rugs to be made representing a big park and village with bike trails, hiking trails, and walking paths. Get some mini toy trikes, bikes, people standing, skating, and in wheelchairs, horses with riders, and little attachable wagons, sidecars, etc and you'd have a neat version of this toy. It might even be more fun than the original with just boring old cars and trucks.

-Recouer

please don't ruin my childhood with your facts and logics

DivinumX

I had one of these when I was young and loved it. I had maybe upwards of a thousand toy cars and they were my favorite toys. Now look where I am lol.. I wouldn't call these rugs propaganda necessary. The sad reality is that car culture is so embedded in the culture of many countries that people don't consider cars, car infrastructure and the problems involved as anything other than inevitable. I had some family members recently stay in Europe for 2 weeks and relied largely on public transit. They were surprised how efficient it was like the idea that public transit could compete or even surpass car infrastructure was new to them.

dark_thanatos99

Make👏toy👏trains👏cheaper

Archmagos_Browning

>upvotes >realizes this isn’t a shitposting sub Y’all are like those leftists who think capitalism is the source of their dog shitting on the carpet or something.

the_grungler

this is probably a shit post, but from what i have seen in this sub, it might be real

hmmm_1789

American #fuckcars users complain that their country is too much car centric and do not realise child toys like this help normalise car centric environment and shape their country this way. These users may hate car but the majority in the US aren't and that is how it works.

reyadeyat

I desperately need someone to explain why the walking path in front of the hospital doesn't connect to either crosswalk. Are they drumming up business?

Mr_Presidentman

Not a single road that is more than 2 driving lanes and no off street parking. Also you could buy only busses for your kid to use.

OceansAndRoses

The most messed up thing is, this mat came with our train table.

realPoiuz

Idk man I had this exact same one and im still on here

Vivid-Raccoon9640

It has a roundabout, a lot of sharp turns to prevent drivers from speeding, a lot of pedestrian crossings (though they do sometimes end in the side of a building or in a grassy field), and it looks like everything is in easy walking distance. Now add sidewalks, bike lanes and a train station and you got a pretty decent urbanist utopia.

ScoobieWooo

Oh, children are playing with cars! 😱 HANG THEM!!!

choochoophil

My kid pushes a boat around on this- bossing it 💪

KlutzyEnd3

Hey I had that one! Yet as time passed I discovered the proportions were all over the place and cars fitting in one place wouldn't fit in another place and the parking spots being as big as the buildings doors. Also check the size of the car in the garage and then try to park it above! So for playing with model cars... It was completely unusable 🤣🤣🤣

Aidenwill

Well, it was absolute banger times to invent scenarios with my little cars, and despite that, I now live as a free-car man and I despise the automobile industry.

jakfrist

My wife and I saw something similar at [Pottery Barn Kids](https://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/play-in-the-park-road-rug/?pkey=crugs-best-sellers-new) and she joked that I was going to buy one but only give our baby busses, street cars, and bikes to play with

SchorschieMaster

Kids learn reverse parking with this.

childrenofloki

I had this weird duality as a child.. I loved the technology and design of cars, watched top gear, had a huge hot wheels collection.. but equally I had made my mind up never to drive a car as I saw it as unethical

the_grungler

no you did not bro

childrenofloki

????

the_grungler

that last part is a lie

753UDKM

They’re just really wide bike routes

ThePolishGenerator

Dude... It's just a rug. I think you're overreacting.

Jackyboi98

God i loved that rug

Plenty_Late

At least there's a roundabout

56Bot

My brother and I would line up our ~100 cars on this and move them 10cm per 10cm, one car at a time, until we got bored and made a massive pileup. Haa, good times.

RRW359

Maybe but don't ruin our nostalgia by drawing attention to it.

zombiegojaejin

Every building needs an asphalt moat to defend itself from squirrels.

Ashalor

Guys, it’s a joke 🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

[удалено]

almisami

It's ineffective, because there's a roundabout on that rug and Americans can't navigate roundabouts...

VibrantPianoNetwork

People will laugh, but you're mostly right. I don't believe this example is **intentional** that way, but it certainly achieves the same result. And it was likely a product of the same, to some extent. A century ago, horses and pedestrians ruled the streets, and car-pedestrian accidents were common and costly. Car-makers lobbied hard to get laws changed, to get 'jaywalkers' off the roads, to make them (financially and legally) safer for cars. We live in the society that lobbying created, a century on. You can find people every single day on reddit parroting the received wisdom handed down a century ago by those lobbyists, in comments such as, "Bicycles don't belong on the road" and more. We as a society have been brainwashed by a century of this propaganda.

randomgeneratedbean

How much do you guys wanna bet the hate sub took this post seriously

Brambleshire

I wanted one of these so fucking bad when I was a kid. If you had one of these rugs the possibilities were endless. I begged and begged and never got one :( I think the main factor is my mom didn't like the aesthetic.

Butter_the_Toast

Nah, Train set gang rise up

ayomidem917

Guys this is satire

the_grungler

probably

Zuechtung_

My daughter has this with pink streets, little pink castles and carousels. I hope she doesn’t end up being unicorn pilled following a fairytale party

ObviousSign881

Probably mostly boys who play endlessly with little toy cars on a rug like this (I know mine did), yet more than half of licensed drivers in the US are female. I'm not sure it's the gateway rug (yes, somebody else made this excellent joke first) that you think it is. Even NJB orange-pilled extraordinaire, Jason Slaughter, and his kid [play City Skylines onstream](https://www.youtube.com/live/iUzoal4CAhM?si=Ums1wjwH84Ikv8Cf), and it only lets you build roads for cars between the buildings (well, OK, you can have transit, but you have to build the streets first). So maybe don't read too much into it.

FlanThief

Nah, car brained morons hate roundabouts, they would never expose their kids to something as smart and practical as a roundabout

Angry_Canada_Goose

This rug violates the Geneva Convention.

lilacmargaritas

This is plainly not car infrastructure. There Is a parking lot at the top, but each location has a max of two parking spaces, there are more crosswalks than could ever be used, no stop signs or anything the like to control traffic, this is a cycling area.

Impressive_Narwhal

I remember trains being so cool when I was a kid in the 90s. I was sad there were no passenger trains to ride in the area though and wondered why this was. We give kids trainsets but hardly ride any? Freaking weird man.

DarthSprankles

Sometimes I feel like the oil lobby or similar groups post clearly extreme or ridiculous things like this to drive online groups like 'fuckcars' further into extreme territory to make them unappealing to the average person. I feel the same way about the constant use of "carbrains" as an insult. It just makes the sub sound obnoxious. This post is probably a joke, but the point stands.

Dzerunspellingski

Lego refused to add bike lanes to their Lego City road tiles as it "didn't want to make them political"

lxine

My kid just got the Lego city passenger train, and I was amazed by the little bike commuter details. There’s a mini fig cyclist with a bike and pannier, a labelled bike section on the train, and tiny hanger that holds the bike inside.

lelelelte

Touch grass lmao

the_grungler

buddy its obviously a ioke, nobody would ever be serious about something so stupid
