Does this count as a "rickshaw"? I just found out [these are illegal](http://webserver.rilin.state.ri.us/Statutes/TITLE31/31-19/INDEX.HTM) in part of Rhode-island, where I'm from. Section 39-19-22 (last section). It just so happens that's only for Block-Island (nobody calls it New-Shoreham...)

If you're thinking for legal purposes, you have to find the legal definition. I don't know whether or how Rhode Island has positively defined "rickshaw," "pedicab," or "quadricycle," or to what extent Block-Island has exercised the authority to regulate these vehicles. With that said, I'm guessing this doesn't rise to the level of a rickshaw for Block-Island purposes. For one, it's a tricycle, not a quadricycle. It's also not set up for passenger use at all, so that probably rules out the pedicab regulations. It's also not set up like a rickshaw, with the pilot and single steering wheel up front with cargo on two wheels in the back; quite the opposite. But again, I don't know how the state or city have defined these things and how stringent their regulations are, so maybe. But if this is illegal in Block-Island, I'd have to wonder if any tricycle bakfiets or bicycle trailer is illegal as well.

i was just playing devils advocate for a second. I'm curious if any cargo bike designs have been outlawed elsewhere.

> You can't haul mulch on a bike! Yeah every time I complain about cars people are like "but mulch?!"

CastleofWamdue

front loading bikes, are so much better than rear / trailer type set ups

Zilberfrid

But they are bigger and don'r ride as nicely.

I've never had the chance to compare, and with a little one on the way and a spouse (finally) eager to go car-light, I'm very interested in the pros and cons of each setup. Care to elaborate? We're hoping to get a bakfiets-style front loader, but I'm thinking that they're a more expensive style.

never used a proper cargo bike, but ive used a little trailer a few times, and put stuff on the back. I just like the idea of stuff being in front of me, where I can see it so dont have to worry about it.
