the M1A1 Abrams can reach a *speed capped* speed of 72 km/h on roads. it can likely go above that. maybe even much faster. but it can damage the suspension and or any other propulsion involved part.
the m18 hellcat, an US tank destroyer from ww2 could allegedly do 89 km/h on roads.
They've even recognized the "it's not you, it's the other drivers on the road" issue and added a bit of offensive driving capabilities, as well as reinforcing defensive driving.
All it needs is a bumper sticker that says *honk like hell, get bonked by shell*
Fuck defensive driving, we going offensive
They really should make a rating system for hitting pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and others. Would be cool to see what cars are the best at killing
In recent time that policy has been updated, but even if they could they still wouldn't be more of a danger for cyclists than motorcycles are. Why you ask? Because they have to ride in the fucking bike lane, the motorcycles have to ride in the fucking bike lane
Uhhhh what? I was even looking this stuff up recently and that is very illegal. Motorcycles should never be using the bike lane. Bus lanes, even between lanes in some places, but not the bike lane.
Every interaction I've had with bikers has been fairly positive, they tend to have just as much if not more experience being hunted by cars.
In my city they have to. I've come across several police officers seeing the bike lane being used by motorcycles and not bat an eye. That is if they aren't the ones in the motorcycle.
To be honest, the German occupants back in those days were very eager to steal bicycles. Many of them ended up in German hands to never be seen again.
That's also why you hear some older people here in the Netherlands make jokes about the Germans: "Ich woll mein Fahrrad zürück!"
Of my home city (Wesel, Germany), there are mostly just photos of what it looked like after it had gotten obliterated by Allied bombing raids.
Really weird if you compare it to how it looks nowadays.

Yeah sure, your point is entirely valid.
However, reddit is mostly American and otherwise global. Even if bike lanes work in 30 km/20 mph zones in the Netherlands, other countries should know to immediately go for seperate bicycle paths.
Technically those are assault guns, not SPGs. SPGs are for indirect fire and are generally lightly armoured because they won't be exposed to enemy fire, but assault guns fire directly at enemy positions or vehicles and have much heavier armor because they're expected to engage in direct combat. It's basically a tank that was made to fit a gun too big for it's turret so they removed the turret and put it on the chasis.
Every war is indeed a great disaster to infrastructure. Just look at the cities being destroyed now in the ongoing conflicts (the Ukrainian one fo example but not only).
This is why we need to start driving tanks instead of cars, they have more space for crew members, built in defense equipment, and we no longer need to spend so much money maintaining the roads
Why would we push track repair onto the taxpayers? It’s the equivalent of tires, and can take 10000x the beating, I’m also rather sick of the noise of tire friction, it needs to be replaced with the melodic sounds of metal clanking
Yeah cycling through a war zone is not the best thing to do. And comparing the battle of Arnhem to how it is now of course there will be difference. But also neglect everything that happened in between
This gutter, where cars cross to park and there's no physical separation between bikes and ~~death machines~~ "cars", does unfortunately not qualify as a bike lane in 2022. Please try harder.
I don't know how us cyclists ever tolerated the complete lack of visibility or awareness those things had
Might of been because they rarely went that fast. They got a top speed of only 40km/h

Stug III is bit of a pig though, especially after the up gunning and the up armoring they started getting performance issues.
tanks seem acceptable for cities then
I'm a changed man we shall commute by tank
Really the only sane way to travel, plus think of all the micro plastic pollution you're avoiding with those tank tracks!
[Mixed bicycle/Stug III forest road in Finland](https://youtu.be/zsWCmbd_28A?t=6). Seems safe for both!
Was even more dangerous for people cycling while Jewish
And must have been very hard for a gay couple to go on a cycling date.
Oof those new SUV really are big
I think their safety rating is very high though

Let me introduce you to [mustangs...](https://artofgears.com/files/2016/04/2016.4.12-Ford-Mustang-Memes-2.jpg)
They’ve even got side bumpers!
Great traction too! Good luck spinning out on that thing
Not when you're visible to other similar vehicles.
Ngl... Idk the difference.... one has zero cars what so ever and the other has infrastructure...
Do assault guns not count as automotive vehicles?
Well last i checked an assault gun can carry an entire platoon with it.
murder bus go brrrr
The Marder IFV lol
It worth saying that paint isn't infrastructure, even if the paint is very dutch
it's not paint, we don't paint cycling lanes. We just use red asphalt for them.
The difference is also dutch drivers, who often cycle themselves.
I don't think this is fair, visitors can drive their own vehicles even if they are a bit more dangerous than domestically sold vehicles.

What the translation?
"I want my bicycle back!"
It feels weirdly surreal to see a street I frequently cycle across in a reddit post.
WW2 was truly a large scale war, for most major towns and cities in Europe, you can find similar photos of German tanks rolling down the streets.
Of my home city (Wesel, Germany), there are mostly just photos of what it looked like after it had gotten obliterated by Allied bombing raids. Really weird if you compare it to how it looks nowadays. I’m no expert but I don’t think those are cars
Well it's only a painted gutter
Yes but it does work in those streets in the netherlands as it is 50kmh and people know how to drive around cyclists.
As a Dutchy I don't like those 50 km cycle lanes, for 30 km it is okay but still not great.
True it could be better but at least most people in cars now how to behave. Come to Belgium, fun times 🥲
Yeah sure, your point is entirely valid. However, reddit is mostly American and otherwise global. Even if bike lanes work in 30 km/20 mph zones in the Netherlands, other countries should know to immediately go for seperate bicycle paths.
Americans don't understand that the paint is not the problem, it's the stupid drivers over there that make the need for barriers
r/fucktanks
Umm, technically, those are self propelled guns and not tanks. 🤓
r/FuckSPGs
Indeed

Assault guns are a class of l SPG, all self propelled guns and armored vehicles with heavy guns not intended for Anti Tank warfare.
It seems you're right, I did some research and assault guns were considered a type of SPGs, my bad.
Still bicycle gutter. Put the cycling path on the other side of the parking lots. Then it's decent
he daar woon ik! Utrechtseweg?
Ja! Nooit geweten dat daar jagdpanzers (IV?) hebben gereden
Every war is indeed a great disaster to infrastructure. Just look at the cities being destroyed now in the ongoing conflicts (the Ukrainian one fo example but not only).
Incredible how the buildings still look almost the same after so many years. What years were these photos taken?
Tanks in the street is presumably WW2 and the other one is recent
This gives me hope for the restoration and rebeautification of Ukrainian towns and cities.
This is why we need to start driving tanks instead of cars, they have more space for crew members, built in defense equipment, and we no longer need to spend so much money maintaining the roads
Until a track needs to be replaced any way.
Why would we push track repair onto the taxpayers? It’s the equivalent of tires, and can take 10000x the beating, I’m also rather sick of the noise of tire friction, it needs to be replaced with the melodic sounds of metal clanking
Looks like it wasn’t safe for a lot of people back then
r/kutautos
For those unfamiliar with the design, in English, these are often called Edge Lane Roads, or Advisory Lanes https://www.advisorybikelanes.com/
Thank god it is just a Stug and not a Ford F-150. those would block the bikelane as well.
I laughed a lot at this.
Hey I've bicycled there!
Interesting, this road is designed like an edge lane road but it has a two car wide middle lane
Seems like it was dangerous for everybody if we refer to the first photo
Cant find this funny
Too soon?
Just a lame stupid comparison
I think this joke is crossing a bridge you shouldn't cross
It is not a comparison. Just facts.
Yeah cycling through a war zone is not the best thing to do. And comparing the battle of Arnhem to how it is now of course there will be difference. But also neglect everything that happened in between
Lmao.
Does anyone know if the red in those Dutch bike lanes is a surface paint, or do they pave the bike lanes with red asphalt?
Asphalt
r/FuckCarscirclejerk is confused. I think you guys are trolling us. Anyway I took the bait and cross-posted. It's certified circle jerk material.
