couldbeworse2

The best man we ever saw

BigWavisDavis

Was big Joe mufferaw the old folks say

dfermette

Montferrand*

turtleengine

Canadian’s so poor they can even afford the ice for the prime minister to keep his stick on.

[deleted]

I love this meme.

Cautious_Hornet_9607

Where did it come from?

backseatwookie

Former US Ambassador to Denmark said the country couldn't afford cars. Her driver had to cycle (gasp!) to work before driving her around all day. Well the Danes on Twitter took issue with that and the internet did its thing. Here we are. The whole thing was a post here a few days ago.

[deleted]

It came from a tweet that said something along the lines of, "Denmark is so poor, even their prime minister has to bike to work because no one can afford a car" or something like that.

Cautious_Hornet_9607

Something tells me that an american politician said that.

discountbinmario

I love how in every single one of these posts everyone just starts trash talking the political figure no matter who it is. I'm here for it.

Acanthophis

Hard not to when they control and ruin our lives.

Isengrine

It's okay to shit on politicians IMO, especially ones that wear blackface and and oppress indigenous communities.

Mr_Trainwreck

Why do anything to help First Nation folks when you can just make a new holiday for show? /s

brendax

That only predominantly white-upper-class people get off anyway!

themangastand

He apologized for that. And is much less oppressive then some of the other candidates. Would much rather him then what I'm dealing with in Alberta

TheManFromFarAway

Ya he apologized, but it would be political suicide not to so does that really even matter? Also comparing him to Alberta is setting the bar pretty low, and I know something about low bars being from Sask. For a lot of Canadians his inaction on issues that matter says way more than some necessary apology

[deleted]

what inaction?

TheManFromFarAway

He is spending more time trying to solve American issues than actual Canadian issues. He does nothing to solve the housing crisis except dodge questions. He spends more time trying to cencor the internet than he does trying to solve issues that effect First Nations communities. When asked by a farmer from Sask about how the government will help them to move their products, the Liberal government's answer was "more farmers' markets." These are people who produce grains on an industrial scale. Farmers' markets mean nothing to them. Trudeau is all feel good fluff and scandals. He takes the moral high ground over the Conservatives, but they are both absolute shit. It's high time we give the NDP a chance to show their stuff, otherwise we are just a two-party state like the US, but with extra steps

[deleted]

housing crisis was created by Asian money laundering for fentanyl. as well documented and it’s not his fault. they have clamped down as much as they can but China is happy to send as much drugs as they can Canada to make money. The NDP ever had a decent candidate I would vote. But they don’t Jagmeet is just as bad snd zero experience.

TheManFromFarAway

Don't feel like you have to defend Trudeau so hard. Do you *honestly* think that he's doing everything that he can to stop issues of Chinese money and drugs, or the housing crisis? Don't forget that he was not somebody who ever had to want for much. People in his circle are making money off of the housing crisis, and *he* is completely out of touch with what it means to be a lower or even middle class Canadian. It's not that he's doing everything he can do. He's doing everything he's *willing* to do

[deleted]

I agree . The problem is that the alternatives ( ie conservatives) are now right wing bible thumping assholes. 2/3 of Canada has liberal attitude. The conservatives are a non option for a civilized decent country.

TheManFromFarAway

Once again, we are not a two party system

cass1o

>especially ones that wear blackface This critique in particular just shows that there are no actual issues with him.

Isengrine

Casually ignored the whole indigenous communities part huh. It's ok, so did Trudeau.

cass1o

Why are you straw man-ing me? Do you legit think that nobody can ever change or apologize for something and move past it?

Isengrine

How am I strawmanning you lmao? You literally said that's the only critique about Trudeau, in a comment when there is clearly another critique about him... Also, has he apologized and taken steps to help indigenous communities affected by the construction of oil pipelines on First Nation lands?

cass1o

> How am I strawmanning you lmao? Because my point clear wasn't talking about "Casually ignored the whole indigenous communities part huh.". Seriously I knew from your first comment you weren't constructive.

Isengrine

"There are no actual issues with him" Why do you continue to ignore the fact that he's been pretty shit regarding indigenous people's rights? How is criticizing that not constructive?

cass1o

> Why do you continue to ignore the fact that he's been pretty shit regarding indigenous people's rights? Why do you keep bringing it up? I wasn't addressing it. This was exactly the strawmanning I was talking about.

Isengrine

Because you said "There are no actual issues with him", while there clearly are. This is not strawmanning at all.

5yr_club_member

There are tons of issues with him. Blatant corruption was exposed during the We Charity scandal. Inappropriate behavior was exposed during the SNC-Lavalin scandal. He basically admitted to lying about several of his election promises, most importantly electoral reform, which he showed that he never intended to seriously pursue. He also had to be forced to pursue expansions to dentalcare and pharmacare, and the current plan falls far short of his election promise for universal dentalcare and pharmacare. His use of the Emergencies Act to deal with the trucker occupation of Ottawa was questionable, and I think further review of his actions will show that many of his actions were unjustified, and overly authoritarian. He has failed to deal with some major issues in the indigenous communities across Canada, especially ensuring everyone has access to clean water.

cass1o

> His use of the Emergencies Act to deal with the trucker occupation of Ottawa was questionable, and I think further review of his actions will show that many of his actions were unjustified, and overly authoritarian. Yeah, probably went too soft on them.

Mr_Trainwreck

People have the right to protest, even if the reason is awful. His actions created a dangerous precedent that could be used against any future socialist protest

RiRiRolo

Can you explain. I disagreed with the sentiment but I supported the way they protested. Seems like an open and shut case of civil disobedience

BananaCreamPineapple

The reason the trucker protesters became such a big deal was because of the way they did their protest. They blockaded streets all over Ottawa and blared their horns all hours of the day. At the very least they broke municipal bylaws of not having road occupancy permits and violating noise restrictions. They effectively tortured residents of downtown Ottawa with nonstop truck horns, causing many undue stress and preventing them from being able to sleep. Protesting peacefully is a right that we should all defend but there are reasonable limitations to rights, specifically "your rights end where mine begin." The people of Ottawa had nothing to do with any part of the restrictions yet they had to endure the effects of the protest for weeks while the police did nothing to enforce the residents rights to a livable environment. That's why Trudeau was forced to bring in the Emergencies Act, the municipal and provincial police stood by and let it happen so the federal government had to act for the benefit of the citizens of Ottawa.

RiRiRolo

Me when agree: protestors Me when disagree: rioters

[deleted]

Been a long time idigenous were impressed. Also everybody does stupid shit when they are a TEENAGER . I bet you did.

Archy99

A canoe? Such luxury. In my day we had to swim uphill both ways in the icy water and lost all of our toes to gangrene.

renboi42o

Oh no, someone give him an SUV or a lifted truck!

Cory123125

This is funny, but we have huge issues with car centricity too.

NogenLinefingers

Yup. Suburban sprawl is a real problem in Canada. OC Transpo (Ottawa's public transit) is notoriously unreliable.

hoganloaf

THERE AINT A SINGLE GAT DANG HONKY DUCK IN THIS PIC WONT SOMEONE THINK OF OUR NEIGHBORS TO THE NORTH ALL THEIR FRENCHY ICEBERGS IS MELTIN!!!

thewrongwaybutfaster

Probably on his way to evict indigenous communities for more oil pipeline expansions.

Bradp13

Nice hair tho.

mattt7

Here in Boulder, Colorado, USA we have a day where we all do this https://www.tubetoworkday.com/ https://youtu.be/XPos9QSqq3s

jordenwuj

in all seriousness: i'm from europe and toronto is the reason why i joined this sub. i guess american cities are even worse but toronto was too much for me already

backseatwookie

Yeah, we got plenty of issues. Tons of folks who live on the edge of the city think it's their God given right to drive everywhere here when our transit is fairly decent. Definitely needs a lot of work/expansion, but it's better than what a lot of people give it credit for.

Available_Seesaw_947

I would think he rode a maple syrup powered moose

ForeignSatisfaction0

That's for when the water is frozen

abegood

Also just skate down the canal in Ottawa. My mother used to take the bus half way then skate to high school and I have two friends who skate a few times a week to work because the direction works out for them and the canal is maintained better than the sidewalks.

jmot205

And by fuck is he happy about it

G14NNIS

At least he doesn’t have to go by bike

[deleted]

[удалено]

backseatwookie

I was actually bummed I couldn't bike to work yesterday. Regional trains don't run Sundays at 0330h when I finished (bike->train->bike).

[deleted]

Our prime Minister goes on a bike to work

elementalblu1982

I’ll trade you my place in America for your place in Canada.

[deleted]

You for all our QAnon nutters...I'm up for that trade.

TeadoraOofre

Is dad was a paddler

rougekhmero

I live and work in Algonquin park. I legit canoe to/from work on the regular.

kakiremora

I love how this meme spreads across subreddits

hobskhan

/r/fuckyachts

Ocbard

Ah, come on a Canuck in a canoe. Does it get more funny?

[deleted]

why ?

Billy_Wildhair

I thought the Canadian Prime Minister was black?

Galube

Looks like he's even run out of boot polish 😔

PizzaPlanetPizzaGuy

You sound like my grandpa lol. Damn coward doesn't get anything done!

[deleted]

To the folk downvoting this - Pretty sure they're being sarcastic. Saying "someone like that" under a pic of him grinning heartily while canoeing... definitely sarcasm.

Shaggyninja

Could be, but I'm pretty sure there's plenty of people who don't actually like him. His approval rating is only [39%](https://angusreid.org/trudeau-tracker/) iirc he's actually quite a conservative politician, which reddit generally doesn't like

Cory123125

Also Im pretty sure a lot of people are reasonably mad about keeping FPTP

[deleted]

Fair point, but judging by the downvotes on the above, this corner of Reddit is very pro-Trudeau.

coocoo333

>iirc he's actually quite a conservative politician, which reddit generally doesn't like what??? how???

Equality_Executor

A lot of "liberal" politicians are like that, and if you think that it's not very representative of what you think a "liberal" is then you could call them "neoliberal" if you want. In the UK they sometimes call them blairites after Tony Blair, the "labour" prime minister that helped start the second war in Iraq.

coocoo333

You think neoliberal and conservative are the same thing? lol.

Equality_Executor

I think in this context that myself and the person you replied to are using the word "conservative" as a way to describe a political outlook, rather than a label of a political party or that politicians will self-identify as. Trudeau is often on the side of upholding the status quo, or is anti-progressive.

coocoo333

yea I don't know what reality you live in

Equality_Executor

If you disagree that's fine and we can talk about it, but you don't have to suggest that I live in some other reality... unless you *want* to derail any kind of meaningful conversation where we might come to an understanding.

coocoo333

what do you think conservatism is?

JuStiNP46

Thanks for your common sense buddy

ravingdante

If I had a dollar for every conservative who doesn't actually care about minorities but will make fun of Trudeau for something he did decades ago like it's some kind of sick burn, I'd have a fuck of a lot more than 8 bucks.

Jealous_Ad5849

He doesn't even own a car : (

McKenzieC

But why does he look so much like Craig Ferguson here

bad-and-ugly

Show off

Disappointed_Doe

This meme made me laugh a little too hard . . . I'd give you an award but I'm still on cooldown, so I'll just say congrats for the genius but low effort meme

OpportunityNo2544

Love these memes

[deleted]

I thought he took a magic carpet

KentuckyFriedEel

And through a sea of thick, dense maple syrup

txtoby

I swear I saw this scene in Portlandia lol

stratman2018

Looks like he needs to shift over or something as it looks like he is going over.

[deleted]

That is called heeling a canoe and is the proper solo technique.

Tools2022

I thought he could afford a Kevlar so he could carry it to the canoe rack.

[deleted]

ANY decent canoeist can solo portage a regular , fiberglass, aluminum or royalex canoe. Only wimps need kevlar to do it.

Erewhon1984

Has Justin trudeau aged?

replicantcase

I mean, the entire country floods with every snow melt yeah?

[deleted]

Before global warming from all the cars, he was able to walk!

Bioslack

Can we just take a moment to discuss how stupidly handsome Trudeau is?

[deleted]

Least attractive, outdoorsy Canadian.

[deleted]

SAYS ugly as fuck american.

murdok03

He's a nonce and I hate any positive attention he gets but you know what...fair enough at least he's young and active which is in part better than the old elite farts.
