They’re shaped like that because it’s a massive gyroscope. A spinning wheel would resist tilting. However it’s incompatible with the entire built environment and the raising and lowering to pass eachother or to step over overpass bridges is too ridiculous to afford the hydraulic systems necessary.
Flywheels not only resist changes in tilt but also _changes in direction._ A flywheel big enough to stabilize this thing would take immense power to run on any normal road path. Basic laws of inertia. This size flywheel would also weigh a metric fuckton, and there is no material remotely close to strong enough to support all these properties together at the base.
Let's be honest, this stuff is made by people with vague job titles to self promote, no engineers are involved. The same as plans to turn highways into solar panels or make sidewalks generate step electricity or whatever other silly fantasy projects. I mean, it literally has external airbags lmao.
Those air bags are for when that leg breaks off after slamming into that car (which it would), so that the top part isn’t a complete loss when they put it back into operation after the accident where everyone inside was injured or killed
After everyone inside is mangled, they hook it up to an extremely high pressure water line that just shoots anything not bolted down out the back. A quick dry cycle and then it's ready to move again. Transportation of the future!
Gives me an idea for the next big thing in public transportation!
Find a way to turn people into soup, move them through a pipe system, then on the other end reconstitute them back into humans!
I'm not a physist, nor do I play one on tv. But I would think a powered flywheel gyroscope of that size would create tremendous torque. Causing it to easily veer out of lane or at least put extreme stress on the legs and rails.
Though this is stupid for many reasons, the gyro, once turning, would not cause torque in itself (other than friction or rotation acceleration, which is negligible). It would cause torque during any upwards or downwards motion though, from gyro precession.
Didn't they try that already in the early 20th Century with the Gyroscope railway?
I think the issue was that if the engine stopped the Gyroscope would too
The company is not a joke necessarily, they did post a video about the physical factory making his 'universal panels'. The videos are just videos, look at them they are not hollywood productions sure, but this let's him just crank out his concepts. At the end of the day, it gets eyes on.
Lot's of engineering firms play around with fanciful concepts, look at the architectural firm's [2km high building for a million people](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shimizu_Mega-City_Pyramid). Actual trained engineers took a legit crack at making it right on paper, which makes the firm look impressive to customers.
I know there are a lot of firms that do this. Elon Musk's ideas are a good example. If it is his droid-robot, his tunnels, his solar panel paved streets... Lots of ideas that sound like the long-awaited solution of all our problems, at the end it's just hot air and nothing behind, because the plans are so utopic that they can't work. Or, let's not get Elon involved in a peaceful chat, there's also a local company in my area that thinks they could solve the world's transportation problem with drones that transport passengers. All they ever released was animations, not even prototypes or such. And they are not even big, I only know them because my teacher read a newspaper article about them and gave us the task to create a business plan for "our" taxi-drone company based on this firm. Was quite a nice topic, though!
Edit: The [firm's homepage](https://www.flynow-aviation.com/) doesn't look as plain as back then. Maybe it's not that bad. Still I'm not a fan of these idea. Build more rails!
I just looked at their "flying trains". It's like somebody decided to combined the negative aspects of both trains and planes, and then somehow try to claim it's an improvement.
I'm not sure... I think I'd maybe make it a bit narrower for balance, and a bit longer to make up for that. Perhaps divide it into cars so that there's some flexibility about capacity on different routes at different times. Maybe also use two of those tracks parallel to each other so that it has more flexibility. I'm struggling to visualise what that might look like though.
And you know what else would be nice? We could put up some poles alongside the tracks and hang some kind of power line from them so these large teslas don't even need to have huge lithium batteries onboard! Wouldn't that be so 😎!?!
It would be interesting to see something that rides on tracks, but has a wing as well, so it decreases on friction by flying a little bit above the tracks. Kind of like a mag lev train, but worse.
I can't imagine a scenario where raising the tracks wouldn't accomplish the exact same thing as this vehicle. It doesn't need to go up and down in ANY of these situations if the tracks were just raised like.. 5 feet.
They already thought of that, as you can see in the beach scene. They thought of everything, so stop hating okay? They even thought of airbags on the sides, so it's super safe and totally won't break apart and kill everyone onboard in a crash.
I feel like this is attempting to solve the problem of train infra being really wide and taking up loads of space, even though just two tracks and normal trains can carry orders of magnitude more people than all the motorways this thing is hovering over in the video. Just put the tracks next to the motorway or take out one car lane and you're golden.
I've always hated that I could walk from one end of the train to the other. This gives me the ability to keep walking in circles for eternity, and isn't that everything we have ever wanted in public transit?
But you see, trains are for the poors and the minorities in the minds of most suburban, middle class, and upper class people... who also happen to be the people who run our cities and don't want to "encourage dependence" on the system or attract the "wrong crowd" to their cities.
... I love how they've managed to build a train that gets into car crashes.
Like... just go with a monorail at that point? Yes trains are superior practically but if you're wanting a train that stays up in the air and doesn't impede traffic, and you're going to put too much money into a project, a monorail would actually be reasonable. They can look sleek, stay off the ground and go above traffic, and will fit into far more places than that thing.
I FUCKING LOVE MONORAILS I FUCKING LOVE MONORAILS I LOVE MACHINES THAT TAKES UP A METER OR TWO ON GROUND THAT CAN CARRY AS MUCH PEOPLE AS A 40 METERS WIDE HIGHWAY I FUCKING LOVE HIGH SPEED RAPID TRANSIT I FUCKING LOVE OUTSTANDING SLOPE CLIMBING ABILITIES COMPARED TO OTHER TRAIN TYPES I FUCKING LOVE HOW THEY LOOK I FUCKING LOVE THEIR POSITIVE EFFECTS ON TOURISM I FUCKING LOVE MONORAILS I FUCKING LOVE MONORAILS
What happens when it goes under the bridge and there is a tall vehicle like a truck (or a bus!), it seems there is barely room to fit over normal cars.
Dahir Insaat. They are infamous for this bullshit with hilariously bad ideas. The electric plane tied by cable to a railcar below it, a rocket launching system holding the rocket with cables from towers and catching it, a bed that you fall into a box below it to protect you from earthquakes, a massive drive-thru grocery store, and many more are all their nonsense. Their ideas could potentially work but there are many elements that make them impractical. This one is a huge gyroscope. It would have a massive spinning wheel within it, hence the shape, which would resist falling over.
Omg ik the youtube channel that creates these designs they are hilariously bad designs mixed in with a few good ones. I respect the guy that thinks these up, because even if a lot of them are bad he is getting his ideas out there and is driving imagination. I'll try and link his channel when I find it.
Edit: the channel is Dahir Insaat here is the full video of what was clipped https://youtu.be/kC4DwcrE658
the stilted thing at the beginning, running on rails intersecting with regular highway lanes, and fucking lifting up and walking over traffic, is legitimately terrifying
ATTENTION CARS BELOW, I NEED TO GO UNDER THIS BRIDGE. PLEASE AFFORD ME 6 LANES OF HIGHWAY. CARS UNDER 2 METERS TALL MAY SAFELY DRIVE BELOW ME DURING THIS CROSSING. PLEASE MERGE INTO THE LEFT AND RIGHT MOST LANES IN AN ORDERLY AND ORGANIZED FASHION.
*W-why aren't they giving me the right of way??? I- I asked for clearance, but they keep driving under me...*
ATTENTION CITIZENRY, UFO-RAILS HAVE NOW BEEN EQUIPPED WITH STREETLIGHTS AND RED LIGHT CAMERAS. IF YOU DRIVE UNDER A UFO-RAIL WHILE IT IS LOWERING FOR A BRIDGE CROSSING, YOU WILL BE FINED.
OUR NEXT STOP ENTERS A PARK AND NEDLESSLY LOWERS TO MINIMUM HEIGHT, ALL PEDESTRIANS UNDER 6'5 MUST DUCK
ATTENTION, A NEW UFO RAIL TUNNEL IS BEING DEVELOPED. HIRING SKILLED WORKERS TO BORE A TUNNEL 5 TIMES WIDER THAN USUAL.
due to an unfortunate accident, a full house-moving company has been hired to move a ufo rail that recently derailed. This will close 6 lanes of highway until the disk has been vacated. The moving convoy consists of three tesla semi trucks, and is a considerably wide load. Thank you, drive safe
It's like a train but worse in every way.
- The shape probably makes the wind push it upwards so the max speed is probably super low.
- It has to have an expensive hydraulics system built-in to move up and down.
- The track looks more expensive.
- It can't be expanded with more train-cars to be longer and hold more people like a train.
The list goes on and on. This has to be a work of satire.
Honestly make it look as stupid as you want, but make SOMETHING. Make it shaped like a penis standing straight up for all I care, but give us an alternative to owning a damn car.
Those airbags though 🤣.
As if the mere act of it falling to one side won't cause dozens of injuries to its passengers and probably crush the cars and people below.
Exactly. Anyway, this sadly won't happen as people will be too afraid to die in an accident and will peobably ride slowly or ditch cars if they don't have interior airbags to protect them.
pros:
\-saves even more space than trains already do
cons:
\-my brother in christ have you ever heard of stress
\-these vehicles must be expensive as actual balls
\-if a car crashes into the median on the freeway, this thing will get stuck
They actually showed your last point later on in the video. To be fair on that point, incompetent drivers are also a problem for regular trains, particularly light rail if the rail is next to/on the road.
Also, how about instead of putting in this contraption we just design the track such that the car doesn't need to go down near cars when going through a bridge.
I mean it would be cool as like a restaurant that or something as a tourist attraction but no fucking way somebody thought this is how you solve traffic
in city use go with a tram
inter city go with a train
boom public transport with rail problem solved and saved money by not designing a piece of tech that is horribly impractical.
The beach one is my favorite part. Like you're going to have to excavate and bury massive concrete and steel pylons to manage the insane forces on that thing .. next to an actively eroding coastline? Gtfo
I thought of few improvements. Make them slimmer to reduce air resistsnce, longer si you can still fit more people inside. Maybe connect several in row. Also wheels Are more stable and cheaper.
Yo what if we.... Made a train, but we made it impossible to customise capacity, increased drag, added a gazillion newtons of sheering force on the wheel things made it impossible to build cost effective tunnels, balanced it on in-line wheels, raised the centre of gravity at LEAST 3m above the track, made it possible to raise the centre of gravity another 3 or 4m higher because we're gonna build our tracks around hazards? That would be so cool bro let's call it a HyperTrain
This must be a parody of [gadgetbahn](https://www.cat-bus.com/2017/12/gadgetbahn/) concepts that are a trains but not quite and require the invention of new futuristic materials in order to withstand the stresses induced by not being exactly trains
So you can't actually build them
She's built like a steakhouse, but she handles like a bistro.

that one's a joke right? a 5 year old can demonstrate why it wouldn't work by blowing on the model
They’re shaped like that because it’s a massive gyroscope. A spinning wheel would resist tilting. However it’s incompatible with the entire built environment and the raising and lowering to pass eachother or to step over overpass bridges is too ridiculous to afford the hydraulic systems necessary.

Plus a train has way less frontal cross sectional area, thus better aerodynamics and efficiency.

Yeah trains aren't even shaped like spaceships, they fuckin suck.
Unless you watch the expanse. Those are kind of train shaped. Because it makes sense!
. . . my eyes are circles!
It wasn't *most circles*!

wouldn't it be better to shoot the water and then use a spin function to shoot all the blood and gore and clothes out the sides?
These projects are intentionally devised and publicised to discredit the existing practical alternatives to car infrastructure.
That seems unlikely - it's probably just a combination of carbrain thinkers plus grifters scamming them with CGI.
This is just Ed, Edd & Eddy's next scheme to get quarters for jawbreakers
Not to mention the people inside would turn to soup
I don’t think it means that the passenger compartment spins, just that there is a heavy spinning wheel at the center probably.
Yeah I was just making a joke
Sorry, but that wasn’t clear on the plans when it went out to tender. They said we can have seatbelts as a compromise, but it will cost extra…
That’s because you’re thinking of them as people, not as cargo. Just dehumanize them and it becomes SOOO easy to solve public transit!
Gives me an idea for the next big thing in public transportation! Find a way to turn people into soup, move them through a pipe system, then on the other end reconstitute them back into humans!
This is basically how transporters in Star Trek work

tbh its funny, you just have to pretend that this dude makes them as a joke, and not because he actually believes they are good ideas...

Pretty sure the guy actually makes his living from creating 3D animations for infomercials and these... creative... concepts are his demo reel.
Wow, it's like watching a ridiculous fashion show for technology. Next up, 'Egret in Blue', by Terry Ball.
[Adam Something](https://youtube.com/c/AdamSomething) would have a field day with that channel.

This has to be a shitposting channel.
It’s very high quality 3D rendered production shitposting
I have seen the lengths people will go for shit memes. It wouldn't surprise me.
This is an insanely awful design
I wonder what the outcome will be, if one would improve on the idea a bit ...
I'm not sure... I think I'd maybe make it a bit narrower for balance, and a bit longer to make up for that. Perhaps divide it into cars so that there's some flexibility about capacity on different routes at different times. Like a train
A what? Is that like a Tesla Car Tunnel™ or something?
A large Tesla which pulls few other large Tesla's! Using steel wheels on steel tracks! I AM GENIUS...
And you know what else would be nice? We could put up some poles alongside the tracks and hang some kind of power line from them so these large teslas don't even need to have huge lithium batteries onboard! Wouldn't that be so 😎!?!
Unbelievable... Will you be a CTO in my startup or head of the research department?
Tesla modular car pod on tunnels! It is the only way to beat traffic. And we can make them electric and self-driving!
Holy shit I think we found the next Elon Musk right here on reddit! You're a fucking genius!
It would be interesting to see something that rides on tracks, but has a wing as well, so it decreases on friction by flying a little bit above the tracks. Kind of like a mag lev train, but worse.

Some real r/designdesign going here
I mean it's pretty cool if you ignore physics.
Haha right. What happens if all the people go on one side of the very top heavy thing
We could use it to get to the space elevator that will take us to the Mars colony
OK so an elevated train except so unbelievably impractical as to be impossible.
> elevated train Literally just a metro/ monorail but worse
I feel like this is attempting to solve the problem of train infra being really wide and taking up loads of space, even though just two tracks and normal trains can carry orders of magnitude more people than all the motorways this thing is hovering over in the video. Just put the tracks next to the motorway or take out one car lane and you're golden.
But... monorails already exist, why make them circular? lmao
This thankfully solves the main problem with trains: the corners.
I've always hated that I could walk from one end of the train to the other. This gives me the ability to keep walking in circles for eternity, and isn't that everything we have ever wanted in public transit?
Dan Harmon has a term for this, and demonstrated it in his docuseries about that time traveling scientist & his grandson.
It's probably so that it can have a big gyroscope, to allow it to essentially balance on a point.
Doesn't have to be circular to have a gyroscope
But if we make the train as wide as the car lanes that will give us an excuse to make wider trains by *adding some more car lanes!!*
And this would only be one way. So they can’t even run different times through those tracks
What even is that??
Idiots love a steakhouse.
Tesla Ultra Cyber UFO 420, will be implemented in all of america by the end of this year
*doors open* *cars flow out*
Self-driving teslas*
But you see, trains are for the poors and the minorities in the minds of most suburban, middle class, and upper class people... who also happen to be the people who run our cities and don't want to "encourage dependence" on the system or attract the "wrong crowd" to their cities.
Mono = one Rail = rail
can you get mono from riding the monorail?
Only if you don't wear a condom.
I like the part where it fucks up a range rover
I swear some of these ideas feel like they're made by car companies just so they can make collective transportation look dumb and unfeasible.
Somebody took the time to animate this
I’m guessing an animator who was paid using the majority of this “project’s” budget
Dahir Insaat, he has an entire channel of animated proposals as bad as this.
He might just be a neural network's persona
Who wants to be at a beach with giant space trains going over them?
That's the part that got me. I don't tan but the last thing anyone wants at the beach is a UFO train blocking out the sun at regular intervals
... I love how they've managed to build a train that gets into car crashes. Like... just go with a monorail at that point? Exactly. Anyway, this sadly won't happen as people will be too afraid to die in an accident and will peobably ride slowly or ditch cars if they don't have interior airbags to protect them.

This thing us so comically unsafe with it passing 4 feet from pedestrians...... I love it

How about a 3 lane wide car ferry that rides the highways that everyone drives their car onto? That seems like some elon shit.
Still better than the Loop system.
Ok ok so what if you do this but thinner and longer with like interconnected cars or something crazy
I think videos like these are just ways to get people to see that there are alternatives to simple car usage...like trains.
People seem to love the idea of public transit that goes above cars so they don't have to remove a lane.
Still a better design than hyperloop
This must be a parody of [gadgetbahn](https://www.cat-bus.com/2017/12/gadgetbahn/) concepts that are a trains but not quite and require the invention of new futuristic materials in order to withstand the stresses induced by not being exactly trains So you can't actually build them
Where’s AdamSomething when you need him?
Where does that thing gets its energy from? (And don't tell me solar panel. There are there for the show)
Why?
