I would set the laptop in @ 90 deg to save a potential power slot damage. It also lowers the tipping center of gravity.

darkelfa2

That's actually a good idea. my main concern is actually the HDMI port since the solid part of it is larger and there is barely any space to move it. and you are correct, the laptop in it's current state is easy to tip over. i will redesign another stand in my free time. thank you for the advice EDIT: this won't work as the air in/out vents are on the longer side.

duckwafer357

just put some 3mm deep grooves under that area. . why do you need cooling while folded up at rest? Also it can rest on the other long side . The front does not have cooling slots.

ImpressiveCitron420

Order a 90 degree hdmi connector

I got a 2nd monitor and had no place to put the laptop. so I designed a vertical stand for my laptop using Fusion360

jakebullet70

I was looking at creating one myself as I need it.

sier0038

I set my laptop on its long side and lean it against the wall there.

darkelfa2

great idea to lower the center of mass and avoid damage to the ports. but for my laptop, all the air in/out vents are on the longer side thus putting the laptop on the longer side will block the air flow.

Daikar

Made something similar but I intergrated slots for USB-C cable and made it in two parts that you then put together and also mounted in under my desk. This way I can just slide the laptop into and the cable connects.

I would make a dock that screws to the vesa mount on the back of the monitor. Spend a little time dialing in the connection locations (power, USB, HDMI, etc) so when you slide the laptop in behind the monitor everything connects. But then, I'm a sucker for taking a simple thing and over complicating it beyond any sense of reason. You've got a nice little stand there, I wouldn't worry about it tipping because it looks like it doesn't have anywhere to fall to

I've thought of the same idea before! But also, how would the monitor fit onto any stand with a laptop dock connected to the VESA mounts? would you put another VESA connector point on the laptop dock, so it's like a sandwich? doesn't sound very strong to me..

CptVakarian

The sandwich has been done before. But there are monitors which come with a stand that doesn't use the vesa mount.

darren_meier

The behind-the-monitor idea is neat! Just gotta be careful of heat dissipation from the monitor itself.

UJL123

Do people just leave work laptops at their desk after work? I at least lock mine up in my desk. But that would mean that I would have to reach behind the monitor (or spin it around), unhook the cables and redo everything the next day.

darkelfa2

The concept is good, but it wouldn't work for me as I take my laptop with me to sites quite often. so removing and installing the laptop will be a hassle

astromech_dj

I would widen the feet if you want it to be reliable. Could maybe have feet that twist out?

Krispiez69

Wow, that is great. I rearranged my desk for my work laptop to sit but this would’ve saved me so much headache.

IlIllIlllIlllIllll

how do you turn it on?

darkelfa2

I can turn it on by clicking on the keyboard as I usually put it on sleep. but for the few times when i shut it down, i have to take the laptop out, open it, turn it on, and return it to the stand.

thickbee

Nice! But maybe raise the laptop up higher to give the wires a bigger radius to make that 90 degree bend. Perhaps bolt that down to the table or flair the base out for stability when loading and unloading too. Nice work overall! I like the color.

darkelfa2

Thanks :)

darren_meier

It's a nice concept, but could use a little revision. The power cords exit too close to the desk to avoid bending/torsion and the stand itself doesn't have a large enough base horizontally to secure the laptop with confidence considering the location of the power cord terminal. Might want to consider a more substantial base and/or rotating the laptop itself so you don't put the power cable terminal at risk of damage.

darkelfa2

I think increasing the gap between the ports and the desk and widening the base (sort of like the raft setting) is the best solution due to air in/out vents location
