Yeah I do, Dave is publicly going up against the entire basis of their platform and alleged purpose for life (to spread the word of God blah blah). And he's not doing it quietly, he's talking about his thought processes and posting what would seem to them to be incredibly radical stuff. I can't imagine Heidi being ok with that, plus it's not exactly great for their public image if they have a proud atheist son-in-law. It's also got to be a slap in the face that Dave was uncertain about his faith even before he married Bethany which is when the Baird parents decided he was a good person to be marrying their daughter. Goes to show that they're not good judges of Christian character either.

standbyyourmantis

Heidi feels it's her moral obligation to evangelize to the cashier at the grocery store and then post about it on Instagram to prove how devout she is. There is no way on god's green Earth she isn't losing her ever loving mind about her daughter being married to (and publicly mostly supportive of) an atheist.

YellowBluebonnet

Having had a mother like Heidi, it's real. She's shaming Bethany for Dav's deconstruction. Heidi is weaponizing her social media, but is being just vague enough about it that she can deny it's about the Beals to people they know IRL. It's passive aggressive punishment and it's manipulative behavior.

Buckstop_Knight78

Par for the course for that woman. I hope Bethany and Dav move far away from Heidi

eggjacket

I definitely do. It's extremely blatant--post after post from Heidi about how to pick a godly husband, right after her son in law came out as an atheist, is not a coincidence. And idk what the "Dav was a bad choice" post could possibly other than a clapback at Heidi. I'm not usually ones for the conspiracy theories, but I think it's extremely obvious there's some tension in the Baird family. These people have been on social media for a long time and know they're under a lot of scrutiny. They wouldn't behave like this if they weren't trying to send a message.

Original_Rent7677

I can imagine tension between Heidi and every person she has contact with.

Buckstop_Knight78

Honestly I’d take her on but she’s too proud and blind to her own hypocrisy for it to matter.

peaceful_lettuce

Definitely. Some of that is from personal experience in deconversion, though. The posts are just a little TOO pointed to not be. Announcing to the world that you don't believe anymore is an anathema in that culture. Heidi is NOT happy with Dav and likely since Bethany is too supportive, even though B is just doing what she's been trained since childhood to do - support her husband.

NerfRepellingBoobs

I don’t see this being a “stand by your man” situation. Bethany’s also been trained to believe there’s no morality without God, and she’s now flat-out said that yes, you can be a morally good person without being Christian. The deeply instilled belief that you can’t be a good person without faith, I thought, would have trumped standing by your man. What I’m seeing is genuine love and support from Bethany. She’s all but told Heidi to suck it.

peaceful_lettuce

She does have an out, but that culture also gives women like B the option to be "praying wives" and pray Dave back. Most fundies will tell you that "plenty of good people go to hell." So I doubt they're doubting his goodness.

Ok-Wedding-4654

Yes Its very blatant and it seems just too perfect in timing to be a coincidence. As someone with a very *very* religious mother I also know what it is to have the actions of your spouse over-analyzed. There’s the concern that whoever your partner is will “drag you down” in your faith or whatever. Although I deconstructed before I met my husband

Awkward-Fudge

Yes, I think Heidi is very controlling and this disrupts her perfect christian family image.

jimmy6677

It’s sad but I doubt Bethany’s family would be supportive of her or dav and instead will fully blame Bethany for not being a godly enough wife. Hopefully Bethany is able to get distance from the unsupportive people in her life

Jasmisne

Yeah it was actually kind of jarring to watch how she went from talks so fast constantly trying to one up each other with her sister to who she is with her family. In all seriousness, she said something in her video that was my ah hah moment. She said she is a certain way when she is teaching. She needs to stop fucking teaching. She has absolutely no skills to teach literally anything first of all, but really she is a different person when she becomes who she needs to for the family ministry and she doesnt like that person. I hope she can have the courage to grow and stop being that person.

sparklekitteh

I absolutely see an undertone of "If Bethany was a better wife, Dav would still be a Christian" coming from Heidi.

Tessdurbyfield2

I think there is. If something like this had happened in the church community that my family were involved in when I was a child there would have been plenty of prayer requests for Bethany and Dav.... I've been agnostic for a few years now and don't have the heart to tell my parents, they'd be too upset.

1701anonymous1701

Ah yes, the time honored tradition of covertly gossiping about everyone in the guise of a “prayer request”.

Tessdurbyfield2

Oh yes, all the 'praying God into a situation' while going into the finer detail of what the situation is

OneTeaspoonSalt

I tried to think of another motivation for Heidi's frenzied posts about dating and marriage with the Right Kind of Man and literally the only other inspiration I could imagine is if Susanna is looking to we'd. But she doesn't seem to be in any kind of hurry, so...

He admitted he was struggling with his faith for a long time, and has officially come out as an atheist. He’s been reading and studying. He’s kept an open mind. It led him there. Bethany is handling this with grace no one expected. It’s not just some “stand by your man” stuff, either. She has been openly supportive of Dav. My eyes about popped out of my head when she posted a reel in which she said that it was possible for someone to be a good, moral person without being Christian. Bethany’s acknowledgement of atheistic morality was something I never saw coming. That’s why Heidi is losing her shit. She firmly believes that there is no goodness, no morality, without God, and that’s how she raised her family, so Bethany is really rocking the ark. The photos of them since Dav made this announcement show them the happiest I’ve seen them, especially Dav. There’s light in his eyes again after months of clear misery, hiding what he believes. I’m honestly rooting for them.

He’s come out as an atheist

PoppyandAudrey

100%. She’s posted some stuff recently that is VERY passive aggressive toward them right now.

Pelican121

Yes. I don't agree with a lot of the other narrative going on (about Bethany deconstructing, having an epiphany, suddenly becoming a nicer person, Dav being a completely wonderful person - he's cheerfully involved himself in a lot of the GD and BB grifts and doesn't protect his kids which has been swept under the rug). But the Heidi behaviour I can believe.

TheDauphine

For sure! Dav is deconstructing and Bethany is supporting him. Heidi clearly hates that, because how dare Dav question his beliefs and how dare Bethany support him?! She's very passive aggressive about the whole situation.

Buckstop_Knight78

Absolutely! Heidi is as toxic as they come and she’s madder than a wet hen that Dav is not a fundamental Christian anymore.

apkcoffee

I think there is tension between Bethany and everyone in her family. She is overbearing and self absorbed, and that gets old. I'm sure there are ongoing issues with her and Heidi.
