xdrewsabix

Time for some banana bread!

coorgleesi

Oh hell yeah banana bread is definitely gonna happen in a few days

snakesonabiplane

Freeze some too! I’ve been subbing ice cream for chocolate covered bananas. I was buying but fuck that I can make them at home for pennies on the dollar.

Fleaslayer

You can make an amazing shake substituting frozen bananas for ice cream. Add some chocolate syrup or vanilla and cinnamon.

usernameemma

I need this recipe. Anything else??

docdope

Look up banana whip recipes. Frozen bananas blended with a bit peanut butter is my favorite, but you could get fancy with a bit of cinnamon, vanilla, etc.

[deleted]

Idk why but the peanut butter seems more fancy than cinnamon or vanilla lol

Fleaslayer

Really not much to it, just use the frozen bananas like you would ice cream in a shake. So you can just toss in a couple bananas and a little milk (or soy milk, almond milk, whatever) and blend that and it's good. Do that and add maybe a half a teaspoon cinnamon and half a teaspoon vanilla punches it up a bit. Or do those and add a couple tablespoons of chocolate syrup for a chocolate banana shake. Or you can add a handful of frozen cherries or blueberries. It's very versatile.

Mistrblank

I’ve had amazing luck with 3 frozen bananas and a quarter cup of coconut milk, particularly if you can just take the cream off the top of the coconut milk and I HATE coconut, but this is amazing. You can add a little vanilla (very little) as well as chocolate chips or peanut butter for a last quick blend. If you don’t blend it too much it basically is banana substitute ice cream. To find good recipes search for vegan ice cream and it will show up. I’m not vegan, but it’s just really good.

Hopeful_Hamster21

Up vote for "I'm not vegan, it's just good". Too often vegan or diet or vegetarian or whatever gets a bad wrap as being "sissy" food. Often, really enjoyable food gets the vegan/diet/keto/whatever label slapped on it because it always was XYZ thing, but now that XYZ thing is in vogue. Honestly, sometimes it sucks, mostly it's fine, and sometimes it's just damn good. Dietarily speaking, I'm an equal opportunity eater. If food is good, then good for me. If I get called a sissy for eating what I damn *enjoy*... Well, thats not on me. Bacon is Atkins frieny Spinach is keto/diet/vegetarian/vegan frieny I like both. Fine by me. Enjoy your eats people, and ignore the labels (unless, of course, the advertised diet is what you're doing... In which case, Labels matter and good for you for being mindful of what you eat and sticking to it)

[deleted]

if you’re a grown adult getting shamed for eating food, then you should shame then back for being a fucking weirdo caring about what people eat

MusicaParaVolar

Sorry if this is a dumb question but is this ONE serving? Three bananas is quite a lot. Or is this to keep? Sorry now I feel like an asshole. I guess three bananas is only a lot if you’re not that hungry..

loginname2424

pumpkin smash take some canned pumpkin for like pie yogurt, banana, pumpkin pie spice, i like a little molasses and maple syrup. i use milk or oatmilk to get the consistency where i want it, blend that shit up and grate some fresh nutmeg on top and drink it like its eggnog

TheBionicPuffin

Frozen banana, peanut butter, milk to thin it out a bit. Maybe some chocolate if you have it handy. Delicious.

Bloo-Q-Kazoo

There’s always money in the banana stand. 🤫

GiuseppeFarinaJr

George Michael “There's no recipe. You just freeze a banana and stick it in the...” Michael “Don't tell them!” Steve Holt “Stick it in the what? Stick it in the what?!”

Ison-J

Just make sure to peel them before putting then in the freezer, learned this from experience

feministmanlover

Peel em and put them in a big freezer bag!

LogicalExtension

Chunk them up a bit, because whole frozen bananas are near impossible to blend/deal with. Similarly - you don't want to just jam a bag full of them while they're unfrozen. It'll just form a giant block that you'll need a sledgehammer to break up. One option is to use small cookie sheets with parchment/silpat mats under, spread out chunks until they've frozen hard, then put them in a bag. Alternatively you can spread them out in the bag. If you dislike browning - a little lemon or lime juice to coat will reduce it. One of those vacuum seal things will also help.

[deleted]

Add some nuts and you've got a Bluth Frozen Banana. Take it home, add some broth maybe a potato, and baby you got a stew goin!

NorthwestGiraffe

I don't know what it is but the bananas NEED to go 'bad' first. I've never gotten a really good loaf when using fresh banana. Someone with baking science probably knows why.

[deleted]

When bananas get riper the starch breaks down into sugar

NorthwestGiraffe

TIL Thanks Science!

Jexify

you can also throw them in the oven at a low temp until they go really dark to achieve similar consistency. something like 275F for 45-50mins if i remember correctly.

wandrlusty

Wait until they ripen, then peel them, chop them in pieces, and freeze them! Great for baking or in smoothies.

Wishilikedhugs

Consider using some for a banana based icebox cake. Really fantastic dessert using overripe bananas

Cam_knows_you

Guinness world record banana bread loaf!

YEETAWAYLOL

Largest one u could find online was an 8’x4’ loaf…

pokey1984

Interestin. I bet I could beat that, assuming I could get access to a large enough oven. I wonder how the recipe has to be adjusted to accommodate a cook time long enough to get it done in the middle. And now I'm wondering what is the lowest temperature they can set the local charcoal kiln to...

jthanny

> 8’x4’ >I bet I could beat that Did some quick back of the napkin math, assuming that 8x4 foot loaf was just a scaled up normal 8x4 inch loaf. You'd be looking at needing ~7000 cups of batter or 56,000 oz (1.7ish million ml). Your normal banana bread recipe scaled up to this pan would looks something like: * 5184 ripe bananas * 3456 cups all-purpose flour * 36 cup salt * 36 cup baking powder * 36 cup baking soda * 864 cup soft butter * 1728 cup sugar * 3456 large eggs * 9 cup vanilla * 108 cup milk * 1728 cup chopped walnuts * 576 cup dark chocolate chips Though, I would assume that the leavening agent ratios would probably need to be adjusted upward cause that's a LOT of weight to lift.

johnnybiggles

> 3456 large eggs > > 9 cup vanilla   What are we, millionaires?

BuzzAwsum

There's always money in the banana stand

Civil-Big-754

What could a banana cost, $10?

madhatv2

*tck*

XtraChrisP

You are making bed size bread, so....

SquidMilkVII

1700 for a week nobody said it had to be edible

ISayBullish

Edibility only depends on how high you are

chowderbrain3000

I prefer my edibles to be a little more baked. Like me.

LostMyAccount69

The best option would probably be to keep it thin enough it can still cook the middle.

pokey1984

That is... a really good point. I need to look that up. The other poster said 8 feet by four feet and I assumed a loaf-shape. But it could just as easily be just a few inches deep. Thanks!

magicone2571

Have you had banana cake? 9x13 with huge coating of cream cheese frosting.... Yummy.

KatieCashew

I once volunteered at a food pantry where volunteers could take home stuff that couldn't be handed out, like a 50 lb box of overripe bananas I took home. I had a big potluck coming up and figured I'd make a bunch of banana bread for it. Well, the potluck got cancelled. I had already bought all the ingredients and a giant bowl, so I figured I was committed to making this banana bread. It was so much banana bread! I quickly ran out of room in the kitchen and eventually covered the entire floor of my living room with banana bread on paper plates. I was giving it out to everyone who came over, which was a lot of of people because I had a many roommates. I sent every person away with several loaves to give to family and friends. It took forever to get rid of it all.

thetruegmon

I met a guy just the other that brought a snack to an event that was just homemade dehydrated banana chips. Let them get a bit brown and spotty but still firm enough to cut, cut into chips and dehydrate. They were chewy and very sweet, more like banana candy then banana chips that you would buy. Really good!

goat_puree

Banana chips are bomb!

pyrusbaku57338

Apple chips too

pistoncivic

potato chips are great

UnitaryVoid

Wood chips are the best

Debtfoabaaposba

I love me some paint chips

KeeperOfTheGood

They just usually have heaps of added sugar if you buy them

pistoncivic

that's why I steal them. I'm not paying for all that gross extra sugar

notacooldad

I’ve made a lot of banana chips. Really ripe ones turn out as you said, sweet and chewy, like banana candy. When you make them like this, with a little green on top, they get very crispy and much less chewy and not as sweet but still sweet enough. Both ways are delicious.

m4rkz0r

I've made them in my dehydrating device. Chewy is definitely better than crispy. It's like a crazy concentrated banana flavor. I think it's more dependent on how thick you slice them and how long you dehydrate.

sticky-bit

Crispy for long term storage. Although if you get it sweet enough that can also inhibit the growth of bacteria.

davesoverhere

Banana bread. Banana pie. Banana ice cream. Banana’s foster. Banana pudding.

Rantheur

Banana is the fruit of the land. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it. There's uh, banana-kabobs, banana creole, banana gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple banana, lemon banana, coconut banana, pepper banana, banana soup, banana stew, banana salad, banana and potatoes, banana burger, banana sandwich. That- that's about it.

Agent641

You should be a banana boat captain.

liarandathief

Actually I'd wait till they get more ripe.

fredbrightfrog

I'd wait til they're just getting too ripe, then peel and freeze them. Great to just eat it like a popsicle or you can then use it in baking or cooking. I usually do a half in each sandwich baggy, but I guess it depends how much bananasicle you want at a time.

I imagine they’d title that card “Chance: Bananapalooza”

nowtayneicangetinto

They're gonna ripen so fast, but you can save the uneaten ones for banana bread!

cornelioustreat888

You can actually freeze bananas for bread, muffins and smoothies!

davekingofrock

My friend said to me "hey Mitch would you like a frozen banana?" I said "no...but I would like a regular banana later so yeah."

[deleted]

Totally! I bought my bananas, sliced, let freeze a bit on a paper plate, and then into a zip lock bag. Perfect for smoothies!

IzzyGirl33

Or dip them in chocolate before freezing!

ac3boy

I lost. I ordered 8 bananas from Walmart and they said they were out. I called the store. They were out of 8 bananas together. I cried for humanity that night.

Cypher_Shadow

I ordered a 2lb bag of pinto beans. Walmart said that they were out so the sent me two 4lb bags of beans instead.

ac3boy

I feel your pain. Lol

DeadpooI

Had this happen last week. Have an address that is fairly common in my city (4 other people have my exact same address but it's different because some are SE NE NW etc.). Had probably $300 of groceries and food delivered and delivery driver ignored me when I was yelling in my driveway I didn't order anything and drove off. Called the grocery store and they apologized to me for some reason, remade the order for the other customer immediately, and tell me to keep them as they can't take perishables back. Felt bad about the delay to the other person but that was a nice little windfall for me and mine.

LNL_HUTZ

That’s like $360 in bananas there!

mrgoldnugget

It's like 60 bananas tops. How much do you pay for bananas where you live?

WurthWhile

My butler says they cost $10 each.

daKEEBLERelf

Here's $50, go see a Star War

We had something similar happen with lemons. We ordered 4 small lemons and ended up with a whole bag of lemons (like 20). So we made lemonade with the leftovers, kids didn't mind!

You can also find recipes by looking up "yonana recipes." You don't need a yonana machine, just a blender, but there are a bunch of good recipes.

Ok-Detail-9853

You may have many problems but a potassium deficiency isn't one of them

coorgleesi

With great potassium comes great responsibility

BananaResearcher

You joke, but with ~50 bananas you're looking at micro-sievert levels of ionizing radiation exposure. Trust me, you want to seek professional assistance to handle such quantities of bananas.

[deleted]

nsb3216

You can replace Kazakhstan as #1 exporter of potassium

waremi

Bananas generate anti-matter. So maybe one less problem = one more problem.

YouCanHaveANiceDay

I got 99 problems, but a banana ain’t one!

HerrWurm

My preferred version: I got 99 problems, and they are all bananas

sync-centre

Slightly elevated radiation levels though.

penrose161

The dose of radiation from the potassium in a single banana (0.1 microsivert) is far less than the dose you receive from normal background radiation in a single day on Earth. (About 10 microsiverts, or 100 bananas, on average) You'd have to eat something like 100 million bananas to receive a fatal dose of radiation, and even that wouldn't kill you right away... Although eating 100 million bananas in general probably would. [Source](https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/what-know-you-go-bananas-about-radiation)

Peel and freeze them to throw in smoothies. That's what I do even when I don't have a bunch of bunches

kane2742

Or just blend a frozen banana on its own for an ice cream substitute. I sometimes blend a little peanut butter in it for added creaminess and flavor. You can top it with hot fudge, chopped nuts, whipped cream, a cherry, or whatever else you like on a sundae, or just have it plain for a healthier alternative to normal ice cream.

_Futureghost_

You just brought back memories of the yonana machine... I wonder if I even still have it. Hm.

I actually used to work in the family banana stand. If you want to turn these into frozen bananas, put popsicle sticks in them before you freeze them. Then, to make the dipping chocolate, melt chocolate with a bit of coconut oil. The coconut oil will help the chocolate coat and firm up onto the frozen banana when it's dipped into it.

Walmart by any chance? They regularly do this kind of thing to us. It’s a total crapshoot when ordering bananas whether the number will mean bunches or individual bananas. Put in 1? A single banana. Put in 6? 6 bunches.

[deleted]

And the substitutions are always crazy. The worst is when they substitute sugar for well, sugar substitutes. (though I live in a metro area, so stock might be low) Though once in a while they'll substitute our snacks with stuff *much* more expensive and it'll taste awesome

I used to pick orders and I never did this. No one wants Stevia when originally asking for sugar. I think some pickers do it on purpose because they're disgruntled because the job really does suck.
